Hgv drivers are amazing. I could never do such a stressful job and you are so cheerful too. I also make sure i give way to them as they do such an invaluable job.
Thank you
Thank you so much.
Handed my keys in 31st of may, and was best decision I made. 18 years was enough for me! I Do not miss them roads at all..
18 years is a long time to be doing it, fair play to you
@@Life_of_Darren im only 44, so got a few years to work. But it’s the roads, other drivers, parking restrictions everywhere you go.. and the pay we get for the hrs we do, it’s shocking.. stay safe out there.. 👌
Hgvs n class one isn't everyone cup tea a guess suppose alot young ones ect think aw aye a could do that job sleeping when facts are alot different 😅a suppose the trucker Timmy mallets makes the trade more appealing 😅
@@xxinsanitybomer4620 I was going out in the 80’s with my old man as a kid, it’s all I ever wanted to do! But the wages are shit, and I earn more money free lancing gardening at home, and see more of r lass, family, and friends. Shitting in a bush in a lay by isn’t for me, you crack on!
A big parcel of land is up for sale southbound below J. 11a M1 alongside the motorway opposite the massive Lidl distribution distribution warehouse and it's a good investment for a modern truck stop, lodging hotel and a cafe. The area is in dire need for a modern facility with floodlit and concrete hardstanding for overnight rest and only 2 minutes off the M1.
Your vid randomly popped up Darren & I clicked on it & I must say you're personality was brilliantly engaging.
Quality fella & providing a great insight into the life of a HGV driver.
A real ambassador for your profession.

Awesome, thank you! And welcome in 😃
Been retired for quite a few years now and it bought back memories of how i remember it. HGV driving is the only job i have had where the time goes so quick i often wished for a few extra hours in the day
It really does! When i tell people i can work up to 15 hours they look shocked but it only feels like ive worked 8
Great driving and insight into the job Darren. You have a very good temperament on the road!
Loving the POV Darren, it’s during a manoeuvre it will be! It’s a good reminder of the constant checks needed
Thanks Scotty
Great video. Just came across the channel so going be catching up on previous vlogs. Keep up the good work. 😀👍🚛
Awesome, thank you for the support bud glad your enjoying them
Hat. I’ve done before in a lay-by s get a euro pallet. It it over your filler cap d. drop your your suspension lowering the trailer over the cap….
How the hell you get into the spaces that you do is just fantastic . Hats off to you.
Nice blog darren 👍 get past Birmingham ASAP. Traffic is crap 💩 down south don't forget 45 break and plenty to eat keep smilling 👏👏👏👌👍👋
The Birmingham traffic is always a nightmare. Got to keep smiling 😊 have a good one bud
Hej nice to see a UK Trucker with a good voice and easy to listen to. So i liked and subscribed to you.
Thanks for the sub and welcome in 😃
35 years in an artic. Packed it in 4 years ago. Don't miss it one little bit 😊
I love it class job, but I work for royal mail so have the cream of the cream everyday 👌👌🙏
@@TabbingUK Get back to me in 35 years....
Thankyou,Great job all round , brought back some memories ,take care,
Your welcome
You done a grand job
Darren on a blind reverse I watched trucking around with johno last week he had a nightmare In London past week but kept it Calm an succeeded
The best way is to just take your time, go as slow as you need and keep your head, as soon as you start to stress it will fall apart
Just happened upon your channel by chance Darren… always had a lot of respect for HGV drivers, with all the crazy grief you guys have to put up with, especially in and around London! Anyway, loved it and subscribed straight away. Take care and all the best.
Thanks bud, welcome in and have a great day
Brilliant vid - really enjoyed your presence here, you're clearly a very positive chap and looking forward to seeing more 😎
Thanks buddy there’s plenty more to come
Great work on that blind reverse Darren you said it would be difficult at Stafford service's 😂 👍
Great video as always
Thanks buddy
Done your best with head cam Darren good vlog m8,
Will
It’s a little harder to get some of the angels as I need to move my head more than I think to capture the mirrors etc. it will get better over time though👍🏻
Have a good one will
Yeah, that’s the junction for the A406 always accidents there.Hanger Lane is one of my worst spots
I'm new to your channel, Darren but brilliant job! I found this riveting and top notch commentry 🤓
Welcome in! 😃
Great account of your day, Darren. 16:06 - is the Brent Cross Flyover, I remember it being built in 1965, long before continental size lorries were introduced. Did you notice the recently introduced weight limit for driving over it? Mobile display warning, another sign that you would not be able to read in time and sneaky little signs behind the cones? You actually drove on the official diversion for heavy vehicles. Keep 'em comin'!
I was watching some channel called super boat captain, it was that dull that i switched to this. Glad I did, as I use to run lorries and enjoyed this vid. Good lad, it’s not an easy life, keep it up.
Hey welcome in, glad your enjoying the content so far 😀 it’s long hours for sure
Newbie here, you are amazing, driving in tight spots must be stressful. You've earned a ☕️
Welcome aboard!
That van drive that kept edging forward was abit annoying when you was blind siding mate.
You get used to it after a while mate, it happens a lot more often than you would think
@@Life_of_Darren yeah no doubt it does mate
Driving in a third world country does have it's issues
The beeping aswell! Like stfu! Great driving Darren and an excellent display of patience!
Just come across your channel and watched your video with interest (new subscriber), I hate driving in London, much credit to you for driving your truck and reversing it in to those tight spaces and not getting flustered by pushy other drivers.
Thanks for watching and welcome in! 😀
Do live feeds when staying out overnight....brilliant
Not currently, maybe sometime in the future
Good tips about looking at parking options, I've done the same then moved on.
Pot noodles ?? Ok for back up if you're desperate, but keep the larder/fridge stocked when poss, and gas to make a hot drink - no 12/24v kettle ?
Not being critical mate, not always possible to park to buy supplies when tramping - great blind side reverse there, calm and slow always does it ! 😀
I have a stove etc but only bring food for fridge for that day if going to cook, the 12v kettle takes forever to boil that’s the only down side
@@Life_of_Darren cheers Darren, I get what you mean about the 12v kettle being slow, good back up when raining and confined to cab. Like you I've been diverted unexpectedly and caught out near the end of the week with few supplies, when there is not even a chippy in sight, so always a few tins in stock since to lash something together. I wouldn't discount the pot noodles completely, at a pinch though - quick and no washing up. 😀
Just come across your channel - great, well narrated stuff !👍
Them barrels you found also next to that lay-by I would tempted to just put a hole in them as a deterrent next time they show up 😅
Not a bad idea tbh
Darren, Not in your class mate. Driven a 7.5t which I hired to move house myself. Packed solid it was and probably over weight. Didn’t like the way it swayed, especially around roundabouts. Gave me a very healthy respect for you guys do. Great vlog.
Thanks bud, the smaller ones can be daunting when you have a heavy load too
mate I really admire you guys, I used to do the job, im old now but wild the 4 horseman of the apocalypse wouldn't get me to do the job these days, the CPC is a complete joke
Agree with you there mate about the CPC, it’s a complete money grab
Hats off to class 1 drivers. 15 hour working day. I would be up for it. £300 a day
That's only £20 an hour lol@@andrewsalter2681
It’s South Mimms services at the M25, A1 junction
Yes that’s the one!
Well left a comment last night but UA-cam seems to of deleted it! Great video Darren, Thanks for taking us along! Not a bad idea getting just eat delivered to the address was thinking that myself just as you said it haha. Hope you have a good day
That odd mate of yt removed the comment 🤷🏻♂️ the only problem with the food delivery, is that I’ll be skint 🤣
@@Life_of_Darren Haha well yeah that is true 😂 Do you ever go down near Suffolk?
@@ItsRyan. think I’ve been a few time yeah
@@Life_of_Darren Have a look on the book (Think saying the full word might be blocking my comment) for Marco's smoke shed.. If you ever near there, There burgers & smoked meat look proper good give it a try! I'd love to try one but a bit far to go just for a burger 😅
It's a burger van style in a lay-by too. perfect stop for a break :)
Fair play to you sir. I could never do the job that you do. You do a great service to us all.
Thanks buddy
There are better trucking jobs that this pal, I work for Royal Mail absolute cream job, 10hr shifts home everyday and take home alot more than I used to tramping all week 🙏
Great video,as for the weather and atmosphere of the places it looks depressing to me.I would personally struggle to live in a country where it’s cloudy and rainy almost every day.nice drive though, wish you happy and safe trucking
Totally agree the weather is 70% bad, as we speak it’s July and it’s hammering down with rain 🤷🏻♂️
Cranbourne Road, potters bar was the first drop, and the 2nd one was park royal industrial estate. Delivered to both these places many times over the last 20 years.
Watch yourself around Park Royal and NW10.. its a bit lively round there.
Thanks for the heads up mate
your so lucky to have satnav and google maps . and held back to sadly while everyones following their satnav down the M1 I would have been on the M40 Cracking on
M40 is such a better drive to and from London, the m1 is always backed up and it’s even worse now they have all the road works
@Life_of_Darren the roads are awful now I stopped lorry driving in 2004 due to disability and as much as I miss it I wouldn't enjoy driving now as much as I did then . Too many knobs rudnes ignorance and selfishness out there .
Thanks for sharing. Great insight to your driving.
My pleasure!
Around the 5 minute mark. I would not like to be on that 2nd national express coach with that beautiful view of a truck haha
very very intresting POV driving and i am learning a lot. Massive respect for working mad hours and amazing skills
Glad you enjoyed it thanks bud
@@Life_of_Darren I really did as if i was the one driving and a great commentary kept me watching till end. 😆
I am a bus driver for stagecoach, and I've been doing it about 7 years or so now.
Back in 2020, around a third of my depots drivers left to become HGV drivers. Mainly down to haulage companies offering traineeships to ex bus drivers. As they had a huge HGV driver shortage in the UK.
I chose to stay, and it really paid off as I got loads of decent overtime and the best routes and rosters available at my depot.
Funnily enough, a huge percentage attempted to return to bus driving only a year or so after their departure. One lad who actually got his job back (friends with depot manager, most didn't as where replaced) said he was tramping all week and literally had one day and night at home with his kids. It's fantastic money nowadays but not worth it at all. Massive respect to you HGV drivers I'll stick to my bus thanks. 🚌
I wouldn’t want to be away all week if I’m being honest for the same reasons
, luckily I only do the one maybe two every so often, but even then I can go weeks without a night out which is good but the hours are long
Great video. Camera quality excellent.
Thanks!
No idea why you popped up but really enjoyed it and subscribed now lol
Thank you and welcome in 😃
You really see all sorts of life as you do your job
It’s the best! Never knowing what your going to see
Great video. Thanks.
that was loads more entertaining than watching luke c in a hgv,so i subscribed.
Why thank you and welcome in
@@Life_of_Darren cheers mucker 👊
Great video Darren.
Thanks 👍
Allways wanted to drive a hgv .when i was 8 .use to go to scotland with my uncle in his daff.
He told me not to do it 😂😂
🤣 a lot of other drivers would say the same after being on the roads for a few years, luckily I still enjoy it
Very good driving take care.
Thanks, you too!
Making it look easy mate 👏
It was good when you got paid offshore and stop any time you want to look at the A2Z
Can be a good job but very stressful most days with all the idiots on the road,,I did 28years hgv don't miss it at all
Much respect!
Great vid Darren and excellent driving...
Thanks mate
State of the roads its embarrassing, weeds on traffic islands, visitors to this country must know its on its arse, what a dump lol
Keep on truckin👍God bless
Good pilot
Gibraltar and the Spanish border is hell on earth 😢for truckers..
south mimms services A1/M25= new law out now if you are in the way of any emergency vehicles and you move out of the way you can get fined and penelty points from DVLA=3 phone just eat up give them where yoiu are get get hot food direct to your truck i do it loads of times when in uk
It is temping for the just eat for sure, only problem is it will cost me a fortune ha
That comes with the job mate
Certainly does
Wow..15 hour shift..You guy`s work some brutal hours.
It goes a lot faster than you would think tbf and you get used to it after awhile too
It’s not every day and if it is for Darren he’s driving illegally 👍
I was thinking on hgv lessons
But you never said 15 hour shifts and sleeping in industrial estates
It depends on what company you work for, a lot of hgv driver are home for the night, I only do the odd night out tbf
@@Life_of_Darren cheers anyway Im looking for 8 till 4 I've a interview for Halfords in the MOT department
@@JackTuped good luck mate
Welcome to the real world pal , better getting a proper job
A lot of drivers sleep over night on industrial estates it's nothing new
Well, should have brought more at Asda.
I couldn’t do your job mate I’d be stressed af with all the cars parked everywhere and vans constantly edging forward when you’re parking up. Making it look easy here! 😂
🤣🤣 you get used to them after awhile, just remember your bigger than them so they can edge forward all they like - they ain’t going anywhere any faster 🤣
hi i really love ur truck and was wondering where ur company is based as im wanting to become a hgv driver
Thanks mate, we’re based in warrington bud
You really see all sorts of life as you do your job
Typical Industrial Estates: Cars parked everywhere!
Awesome mate
Let’s get this into perspective it’s 2024 and big whoppie £25 tax free ain’t cutting it especially if the cab is swapped about
The average sized services are rammed after 6pm and offer shite fast food noisy and not even secure
Then you can opt for industrial estate or rural parking with no wash facilities or a toilet
Think of the thousands in fuel and lost time driving the big boys are saving
Great content
Cant wait to get my licence, didnt think id want to do tramping because i like being at home too much but when you see how long shifts are it makes a lot of sense because who wants to work 13/15 hours and then spend another hour driving home just to sleep and go back?
Yeah that’s a good point, when you include the driving time etc then having tea wash etc your down to 6 hours sleep if that
Those moped drivers are a pain in the arse. Central London is a wash with them.
There everywhere and drive like nutters
So where did you park then at the early part of the video or did I miss something?
There was a lay-by Just off the roundabout off one of the A road
Confronted by layby "Lillian" 😮knock, knock 😅???
I just do semi local work now
What camera do you use mate it’s so clear
Go pro 9 mate
Miss my cab sleeping in my MAN happy days
15 hours driving goes a lot quicker then doing 12 hours stuck in a warehouse days go quick driving
@@paulgleave158 certainly do!
It’s the only places to be, I’m not into lay-bys getting waved about all night 😂
I’m the same I can’t sleep in them, it feels like I’m on a boat all night
Try the services then - engines revving, trailer changeovers, crashing and banging, reefers running, night trunkers shouting and having a laugh, all night long.
Is fuelling up still classed as working or can you use that as a break if need be?
Still classed as work bud
@@Life_of_Darren thanks, presumed so, but not drive time
This is the crazy thing with being a truck driver. Since 2017 it has actually been against the law to sleep most places in ur truck. U can get a £300 fine.
It’s getting worse as well, especially around London areas. At times it’s next to impossible to take a 45 minute break due to double red lines everywhere and for sleeping the service stations are not big enough for the amount of trucks trying to park for the night
Ye they don't give a shit for the poor driver whoes driven all day and has no where to park up for the night😢
Its a tricky job like no doubt about it
It can be at times, but I love the challenges as it keeps you on your toes
Why did you break the law by parking over a Public Right of Way? That was a designated, and marked/signed for PEDESTRIANS. And the rest of the estate, just look at all the vehicles parked, illegally, on the pavements. What happens to the disabled? Or do they not matter, even if they work on that estate?
It was all private parking for the business I was collecting from and not blocking any access, as for the other cars unfortunately they don’t give much room for wheelchair or pram access
@@Life_of_Darren It doesn't really matter. I've DRC'd anyway. If you ever have a stroke, that leaves you crippled, you'll soon change your mind when you limp/scoot, or ride trying to get past the selfish ordinaries.
You need an E scooter 🛴
I was thinking of getting one 🤣
hgv jobs are underpaid, same like bus drivers
South mimms also know as bignnals
Parking on the pavement now that is really going to annoy our angry sweaty Lycra wearing friends with just 2 of your English wheels on their machines
🤣🤣 technically it was across the parking bays, but I’m sure they will still get mad
😮pot noodles?
And?
Just the title made me yawn 🥱
As Biker yes there are some right wallys out there majority idiots on 2 wheels those food couriers all on L plates. As Motorcyclist legal to filter although it's about using some common sense don't do it down left side of coach or HGV risk being in Driver blind spot, half these numpty took test tried behaviour in video be instant failure on driving licence test. If I'm riding HGV trying get out I usually flash him pull out as too many arrogant individuals on 4 wheels won't give two hoots u wanting get out Darren.
Couldn’t agree more mate
I delivered pizzas to a good few people in your position.
@@ianinkster2261 I am tempted next time I’m in the same situation
very low pay , very unhealthy work /lifestyle, cannot see anything that appeals about this job.
How much do you earn a week?
Probably not a lot. General haulage (what this guy is going) pays shite and is long hours. Most pay £13PH. So assuming he gets paid for his breaks it will be around £200 for this shift. HGV driving is good and pays well (I do it) just not general haulage. Low pay for long Hours
Christ you must be on excellent money if the company you work for can afford to fuel up at Stafford services or are you on crap money because the company you work for fuel up at Stafford services, my guess is it’s the latter, have they never heard of bunkering 😂
Sleeping on AN.......
please watch trucker jenko hes very good and he's a vlogger
I’ve seen a few of his
who the fuck in there right mind would wanna truck around England? ive got the highest respect for the brits but fuck is that m6 is hard work, not to mention all their roads.
🤣🤣 yeah the road system isn’t the best here in the uk, especially the m6, it’s pretty much a car park at times
smart motorways 🤮
Well vote reform uk.b happy😂
