How much do you get paid?
    Is HGV driving worth it?
What's the hourly rate in HGV driving?
In this video, i show you my actual wage slip from my VERY FIRST Class 1 HGV driving job.
Hope it answers some questions for you!

I looked at going on the HGV's when I left the army 10years ago, I was promised my license's when I finished a tour of Afghanistan but was wounded and pensioned off so they didn't let me take them, landed a engineering job and have worked up to management, now the redundancy wheel is turning I'm all booked onto my course and seriously thinking of doing it, I think I would enjoy it and after 5 years dealing with other people's pish the solitary life seems appealing.
Really enjoy you videos, like anything...it sounds like the money is there if you do the graft. Looking forward to starting training. Keep up the good work bud

It's not always about the money if you enjoy what you're doing, but £10 an hour for a skilled job is very low. Your weekly wage with the overtime is not bad, but you're having to work so many hours for your pay packet. If I were you, I would always keep a look out for higher paying companies. I wouldn't settle for any less than £15 an hour, especially during these times as you're very much needed my friend.

Then your ADR you'll end up with roughly the same money . If you can get on the course. There are loads of company's that will put you through class 1. Just remember the bus is regular money . I know people that took there hgv and never got a job at it . They are back on buses in debt . So think careful first. I ended back on lorries only because I got made redundant.

Thanks for another great, honest video Deady. I've come from 20 years of working in investment banks in London so I've had to make some pretty big adjustments with the drop in money but so far I can make it work. I'm pretty much on the same page as you, just enjoying the work and I while I see a lot of the more experienced drivers are disillusioned with the industry I have worked across a few industries and I see that in all of them. If you do a job because you have to I think it gets like that, and don't get me wrong, we all have to do that to a degree but I've chosen this route as I have always enjoyed driving and I think that is a major reason I am enjoying the job so much (plus I seem to be working for a great company that transports a wide variety of goods). God knows, I even enjoy the waiting around, I just accept that is what it is about and use the time as best as I can.
I never did the Van > Class 2 > Class 1, I was lucky to a Class 1 role straight away so a big learning curve but I expect that going through the whole range makes you a better driver and gives you a better idea of what it is you actually enjoy.

Tbh, l am thinking about going in to HGV and suddenly had become fascinated by driving a lot bigger vehicles since l passed my test for category B in 2018 with out any previous points, convictions or fines. You are inspiring me, by making this video and l don't care about the pay but what l do care about is the freedom of the open road and working alone. At moment, l am working in SIA on £9:15p hour and ain't even earning £10.00 hour which we should all be on as key workers mate. I am considering, regardless of pay doing my HGV course when l pass the forms for my category E and C license. It say l got to complete a medical report form, also a eye sight check evaluation report before l can even be considered for my provisional HGV card mate. This l know should be no problem, l always maintained good health and diet balance with a brilliant eye sight with out glasses. I hope you will succeed in what you are doing, as l know one day l too may inspire others that are passionate of driving a good example.. Take care on road pal, all best. 🤝

Recently got into being a HGV driver and I love it. At the end of the day it's what you want to do with your life. These people who complain about the wages they got to understand it's their view. If they don't like it do something else. Let the people who enjoy it do the job and you crack on with other things. Everyone is different. If everyone agreed on the same things and liked the same things the world would be a very boring place.

i’ve done my medical sent off my D1 I think it was called and have a job to go into if I choose to continue with big wheelers.
But let’s cut the bull 💩..
That is not a good wage for a trained professional like yourself and you are a professional. You really shouldn’t compare yourself to somebody working in Asda.
No offence to them people but you shouldn’t.
My five day week is from 7am until 4 but gone by 3 most days I get 600 a week after tax.
I couldn’t survive with four children on your wage I work most weekends as well. Fact is I’m struggling to find a job where I will get paid more than I do now.
I take my hat off to you mate I really do and wish you all the best.

    Great vlog as always
As much as much as the money is important etc driving a way of life and its the flexibility that driving a truck on your terms gives a person and with agency driving a driver gets to choose what work they want to do and the hours they want to do and driving a truck which the majority of the time issitting on ones posterior holding a steering wheel looking at the countryside with arm out window with tunes on the radio enjoyibg life and 12 and 15 hour days just fly by and are easy to do
The way of life and the open road are a bigger draw to to the job and being able to plan your day within a given tineframe to stop wheree you want to eat and when you want to eat etc
Ienjoyed my 8 years driving a 7.5t on agency as never had any desire to drive anything bigger etc but as i am abig fan of vanlife etc i tried to live vanlife but work got too flexible which left me without enough to pay my bills etc whilst living vanlife etc ive had the one day a week and 2 days a week and sometimes the no days a week etc but wouldnt have swapped the last 8 years as an agency driver driving a 7.5t truck for anything

Unless you have an urge to travel long distance from one distribution centre to another like the thought of sleeping in your lorry, finding somewhere clean enough to feel comfortable showering, like eating rubbished food, then yes spend the money getting your licence but it ain’t cheap and unless you are going be in this industry for a good period of time and your family is going to be able to except this life style you may get lonely out there but so will wife or partner think about it, then save your money you are not going to earn much more than you are at the moment, but you will no doubt be doing more hours that will give you more take home pay but at what cost? Think long and Hard and ask guys that have been in the industry a long time, ask the question would you encourage your son or daughter to be a truck driver !
