- Welcome to the rally family! You've seen the crazy old footage from Europe. Maybe you've played the Colin McRae or DIRT rally games. But did you know North America has an equally long history of rallying? The sport of rally in America is one of the last motorsports where amateurs can line up against factory teams on the same roads, and put their skills to the test. If you want to learn more, or get involved yourself, this is your Rally 101 primer. Brought to you by Subaru Motorsports USA.

Nice little Easter egg seeing the ‘22 WRX getting prepped! Can’t wait to see what VSC can do with it!!
Ok, so I'm not the only one who saw that 😆
Good eye! ;)
Glad i did see that correctly
so does that mean there won't be a STI version of WRX next year?
I had heard them speaking in a previous launch control or maybe dirtfish recap that this was the last year for the car. This meant to me that it was either a ‘22 or a new STI! I’m looking forward to seeing what the new platform does next season! I’m glad we finally got a glimpse of the direction!
Very informative! Not a lot of the manufacturers share such important info for the youth or for the people trying to get into this beautiful sport. Good Job Subaru!
Nice on subaru getting Rally Motorsports out there to the general public.
If not them who else?
Spot on. Exactly what I wanted to say 👍

Great informative video. Well produced. Sidenote: It's such a pity that ARA and FIA/WRC are operating seperately. How cool would it be to have an American Subaru team compete in WRC1 as a factory team, and maybe have two WRC rounds take place on the North American continent. A rally fan can dream :)
Conversely, im glad the FIA isnt involved. They are corrupt as hell and constantly make awful decisions. However without them? Yes.
If i remember it correctly WRC does have some plans to go to the US one day, but nothing concrete for now.
"Maybe you've played the Colin McRae or DIRT rally games."
Maybe we have 😉
Good video 👍
And RBR and WRC 😎
The best use of pace notes that I've ever seen was with David Higgins and Craig Drew. The hood flew open, blocking the windshield and they relied solely on the pace notes to get them to the end of the stage
This is the only clp I could find. ua-cam.com/video/y3Go1nPADfU/v-deo.html
I guess that's the one.
That's fantastic!
I grew up in Kenya. Back when I was younger, the teams were allowed to follow the cars with vans stuffed with everything needed to fix the cars. They were a spectacle to behold! Moreover, that rally was never over until it was over. Didn't matter where you were in the standings; anyone had a chance to win! Glad the Safari Rally is back on the WRC calendar! Hopefully, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Citroen and others will return to rally and bring back the glory days of the sport!
2:28 I make the same noises when I am walking around the house 😂😂
This was a really nice video congratulations Subaru!
This is BRILLIANT! Very well done Subaru! Thank you for sharing details of how the greatest form of motorsport that's rarely seen, actually works.
How are these vids flying completely under the radar this content is high quality
Look up your local rallycross group. i started there, went to DF eventually, now im halfway through with my ARA build. It was a very natural progression of things, meeting great people, gaining experience, and not breaking the bank immediately. Oh, and definitely visit/volunteer at rallies, they wouldnt happen without the communities support!
I really appreciate that a manufacturer is making this content.
Best academic class I took all day. Looking forward to the next one Prof!
" Welcome to the Rally Family " Hell yeahh !
Love this! can we get a series about rally construction and how a team works?
yeah that would be dope
Stay tuned this winter for a mini series all about the new WRX rally car build!
@@formulaphoto Sweet! Looking forward to it! Love your work btw!
2:29 Nice car sounds!
Great job on the video. Easy to digest and covered all the key points. More plz!
It would have been cool if they went over $$$ - I've always wanted a break down of costs a top team goes through each year
You mean $$$$$$$
This guy is really good at making downshift noises with his face.
Always blows my mind how they drive with those pace notes... black magic.
Thank you Subaru for existing
I see that 2022 WRX getting torn down 👀😎👍
Awesome video! I wish it had cut to testimonials from regular volunteers to emphasize how much fun volunteering is, how important it is to the sport, and how it shouldn’t be intimidating.
Thank you for making this!
Great intro video to get even more new fans!
I love it! Great video!
That's a great video! Thanks for that!
great video and great presenter. well done!
Awesome video!
Great video, i lost it laughing at him making the noises with the shifter and handbrake
what a fantastic video.
No one better to host this video than Andrew!!! Well done Subaru Motorsports USA!! Now to create a ring tone from his waste gate noise....
great video!
Great video! Now I have something to send to my friends when they ask "what the heck is Rally?"
Enjoy rally fam!
Awesome info
WHAT A VIDEO!! I WAS SCREAMING!!
Awesome!
good video thanks
I love this video
2:28 For a second I thought it actually cut to him driving with how realistic that imitation was
Its still crazy to me how these monsters go so fast at tight corners and narrow roads. Rally car drivers skills are impeccable!
We need Subaru back in the WRC!
well explained
Great blow off valve sounds. Kudos guy. Kudos.
😂 2:28 though it was the car.😂🔥
If I was a younger man with a back that wasn't as twisted as a rally course, I could jump into one of these cars and not die! I use to drift a cargo van on the "Tail of the Dragon" back when I was 17. I had the skill and the nerve to drive at the limits! If I wouldn't have lost my life savings trying to get my back fixed, I might have made it in wrc racing. I miss driving fast!
Niiice Subaru!
I wish NASCAR had this level of approachability with their sport still. How cool would it be to see a car you can buy at the dealership be race prepped and running at 200mph at a super speedway like they did in the 60s? By an amateur in their own shop or garage, no less? There’s an art, a beauty, and a certain purity there that has been lost. It’s great to see that rally is so grassroots and the complete opposite of an out-of-touch corporation. NASCAR looks to F1 for ideas, but I think it can learn so much from rally and its own past.
my dream car
Love these videos from Subaru. I drive a 2019 STI as my fun car and it's amazing...after about $10k in mods 😒
Was the head gasket changed.
@@mmc2k9999 Not in mine but I only have about 17k miles.
One word: MEGA
Would love if subarau uploads more onboard
Educational!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reservoir for when things get really tough. My life has changed after finally knowing what the reservoir in a suspension does.
@3:20 "Without rules, the engineers will go really mad" LMFAO
From what I have heard, rally is quite affordable motorsport to participate in after autocross, I would love build and thrash a boring econobox made into a rally car through a stage, seems like a fun past time for someone like me who loves motorsports but doesnt have the time commitment or money to go endurance racing or GT racing
Is this gentleman the one who voices the tutorials in Dirt Rally? Those were terrific.
Oh dear!
Whilst this is a terrific video, as a stage checker myself , I do ask, how do you get from stage 1 to the start of stage 2 without entering the stage in the wrong direction at 0:40 seconds Whoops!
Still a big fan of the series.

Can AWD converted cars compete? My car came awd factory over seas but my specific car was converted
1:25 can’t wait to rally in my 86
I feel like it would be really cool to do everything done of these cars, with all the modern modifications, but on an older car like a Legacy RS or second gen WRX. It would look absolutely mad compared to the rally cars from their time
Ken Block did this a few seasons ago with his Escort Cosworth
@@ViperKillerWannabe oh yeah! I think it would be cool to see if it on a Legacy though. The Cosworth is definitely cool though
Check out the latest Gymkhana car! 1983 GL Wagon!
2:28 Glad im not the only one who does this
never thought i would learn something by a car company
2:29 best part 😂
He nailed the sound effects. That man knows things.
💚
Are you still gonna use the Initial D Subaru Impreza WRX STis?
I'm a lifelong Subaru owner and Enthusiast and actually go to these rallies but if they're not going to build the new STI then we should all just start cheering for Toyota Corollas!
Here is an idea, how about Subaru for step up their game and compete in the WRC, it has been over a decade since you've left WRC and it has been currently left with only 4 teams, it has gotten boring and it's been consistently dying in popularity.
Just imagine how awesome of a comeback you could make by competing in WRC once more, instead of just the USA Rally.
Surprised you'd use full slick for the Mt. Washington Auto Road considering how much of it is dirt. Didn't think slicks worked that well on dirt.
It'd be cool to see Subaru in WRC.
The impression at 2:28 had me giggling
Does anybody know how much they can change (if any) to the drivetrain of the cars?
Aay it's Coley
I bought the 2022 WRX limited, I’m interested in rally racing and rally cars now. Got bored of bland V8 quarter mile racing and muscle cars
Everything you need to know about rallying is having FUN!!!
Goddamn, sometimes I wish to live in US. (Dream) - Wrecks everywhere, I expect that cars and parts are cheaper than in Europe (as I see in one comment "rally is affordable sport" - maybe in US).........And the whole culture around it, imagine you build your own beast from the scratch....and yeah its FUN but its also an ART :-) (I remember one GT racers comment rally "We still complain that barriers are to close and those guys race same speed in narrow alleys :-) (movie Love the Beast - about rally - check it)
@chozzecz I've not been chasing my dream to rally but I've been working for subaru and feel it is good to know how to take apart the cars and maybe one day I will follow my heart and do what I want to do but the sport needs more love and I'm sure it is going to go electric but I will miss the subaru rumble. Hopefully you will follow your dream and everything will come ture, cheers from the states!
How would one of these fair in the wrc against toyota, ford and hyundai?
I think anything longer than a hatchback would be worse in WRC
So why are there no studs on the snow tires?
Can’t imagine how the co-driver can read in the car without throwing up 😅
Now i want a suzuki zrn modfied to a rakky cars from you
He talks about the WRC as if it were European, when in reality it is the world championship. With races on all continents and with all the Rally drivers in the world aspiring to compete there. In addition, the national championships in the world run under WRC regulations, generally in lower categories.
Of course Subaru did a Rally 101
what color is that car they are showcasing?
when you will comeback to WRC????
1:58 MY GOD😳
Господи храни Субару 🙏
Why Subaru isn't in WRC?
No rally in Los Angeles, but I got my 17 STI , 15 BRZ and building my 03 WRX as a rally car
No rally in Indianapolis. I've still been to 5 so far this year. Just have to travel, that's part of the fun
There is rally over in Lancaster though
So maybe you can miss one? You dont even notice :-)
If you want more proof of how iconic the McRae era was, Subaru still use a modified version of the 555 logo with their own logo down the side of the car!
When will Subaru join the Rally1 car list man.

Anyone knows what the probable cause of coolant leak on our family car is?
It's a Subary Impreza Hatchback 2008.
My brother came home last month and it's smoking from the radiator. We checked the next day and there's no coolant when we opened cap. But there's plenty of coolant in the reservoir.
Couldn't bring it to the shop cause we live quite a long way away and we don't want to risk stopping in the middle of traffic.
Any tip would be greatly appreciated.
Try searching the issue then put 'NASIOC' after search. Nasioc stands for north american subaru impreza owners club. There will probably have been a thread made about whatever it is in the past decade
However, I'm more interested of your thoughts about the new #GRCorolla?
Toyota made subaru skip petrol STIs to let Corolla GR shine
Why dont you go into the WRC
Go try rallycross first. You can take just about any car and it's pretty cheap, but still a ton of fun!
@3:50, did he just say the stock tires are suitable for winter driving? Dude's gonna get somebody killed!
I believe the stock STI did not come with “All season tires”…. So wet and dry summer only no winter.
Any Subaru owners in here? Not just commentors.
is petrol rallying really gona still be cool 5-10 years from now? I want to get it into it but I dont want to if its gona be mostly boring in 15 years....
I don't know, and fear there isn't much future for it.....but I say just go for it now! The more people that are into it, the more likely it is to do well.
