They wanted to be able to curtain off all those "just chatting" girls who got as NSFW as they could while still keeping within twitches policies behind a different tag so that minors wouldn't automatically see softcore porn on the homepage when they made an account. I didn't actually go on to twitch during this change, but based on how everyone is talking about it, i can surmise it did not go well.
They should've added an 18+ category for Adults and make a bot that can Censor all nudity on accounts that are underage and including without having an account, and have the 18+ Phone number verification be the way to verify if the person on the account is an Adult, then Minors wouldn't be exposed to NSFW and the Adults can view the NSFW content.
