      You joke! Oh you joke!
But this is the bad joke of a reality a bunch of us live in.
“Oh those kooky Americans and their guns. They don’t even realize how bad things are over there.”
Nonono we know how bad it is alright. There is Jack we can do about it though because the system is so against the common man that it’s easier to go through the stages of grief and realize you’re powerless than it is to actually do something about it because you can’t do something about it.
I and a million other people walk on ice every day because if you make one mistake they shackle you with a lifetime of debt and it’s torture!

What's even more annoying is that many employers prefer people who can drive and have their own car. So I'm paying for insurance and maintenance for a car, and then commuting on a bicycle, but if I get rid of my car then my employers will take issue with that and finding new jobs would be even more of a pain.

I took the car to a repair shop and they sent me an estimate of ~3.5k for repairs. As a young male, my prices are much higher than they should be, especially since I have been driving since 2015, I've never been in an accident, and I was only pulled over once, and that was because my mom forgot the tail-lights on the car and so they were off at night(thankfully, the cop was a real one and wrote it for her, so still spotless record). Yet, my insurance prices are through the roof.

New law idea: just make it so males have to pay more after the first accident for car insurance, but keep the rates the same for normal drivers, and the second accident is just the same added amount for the first accident, but add the extra rates from the second accident
      Example:
      Current Male rates: x + C
      Current Female Rates: x
      Current rate post accident(male): 2(x+c)
      Current rate post accident(female): 2x
      New no accident rate(both): x
      1 accident male: 2x+c
      2 accident male: 3x+c
      1 accident female: 2x
      2 accident female: 3x

I remember my first 6-8 months of driving was tainted by the fact that my parent’s let Progressive install some Saw torture device in me and my parent’s cars. The device was meant to “reward you for safe driving” by offering a discount on insurance if you managed to not press your brakes too hard too often, and I would play an obnoxious beeping sound every time it determined you braked too hard.
The massive issue with this ordeal is that it literally didn’t measure for anything else other than hitting the brakes too fast. As a result of me being a dumbass first-time teenage guy driver, I adapted by just never hitting the brakes at all and sped through yellow lights and made sharp fast turns just so I could avoid that awful beeping.
I’ve always looked back at that time with fuming rage for my parents ever signing up to that stupid discount scheme at the cost of genuinely risking our lives trying not to slam the breaks too hard, and now that I’ve watched this video I realize I just had an extra layer on how fcuked up car insurance companies can be towards first-time drivers.

I can see why, it WAS optional in the past; however that meant a lot of the victims of at-fault car accidents get screwed HARD.
The legislature in many states originally had compulsory car insurance because in many accidents the victim got essentially nothing from the owners of automobile accidents. As automobiles became more accessible, the incidences of accidents rose dramatically, leaving victims in debt, potentially disfigured, scarred, losing limbs, or even their life. From an economic standpoint, this is horrible, in which, a negligent or reckless person causes injury to another person. Many people who tend to cause accidents according to statistics are young men (hence why insurance rates are higher), they tend to be not financially secure (given they are in high school, just started their job, or college) which means the victim is out of luck. Sometimes the fear is that the victim or victim's family will employ "self-help" (extortion, threats, robbery, etc.) which is a BIG no-no in a civilized society. This concept of no "self-help" is one of the tenants of property law.
Additionally, there was a huge tort debate regarding vehicle accidents which ended up becoming more complicated than your average personal injury case. So an insurance company can subrogate for example to fight another insurance company or another third party to pay up, and these get VERY messy fast, even so much that many lawyers have to specialize in insurance law even after working on the job for years.

That is the issue; there is no good answer for it. Asking for charity (or as you put it, a little "basic decency" and "consideration") is anything but when it comes to insurance however; remember that the insurance is not so much for you but anyone you harm in an accident (body or property); if they gave new drivers that bit of "consideration", they'd be putting any possible victims at a disadvantage; more over, the insurance helps to keep the insured out of prison (for the event where you cause an accident, are sued and can't pay - very easy to get into when you don't have an insurance).

Most higher ups in the US will tell you the US is a free market where everyone participates and it's a far more perfect system then anywhere else cause if you don't like how it is, you can participate and out-compete the bad actors.
Said higher ups also make it laws that favor their companies/"Donors" , make policies friendly to bigger companies, and generally make participating in it a living hell for anyone who is not obscenely wealthy, and that's not just business owners but everyone else.
Many people will blame the government or any number of issues on it. The truth is? The game was rigged from the start.

In Poland there is insurance called OC and AC. OC is mandatory but AC insurance is voluntary.
OC called "civil liability" is when the accident is your fault and you need to pay to a victim.
OC is not that expensive (avarage 500 zł = 117 USD)
You could buy AC (works like normal insurance) but you dont need to ( min. cost of AC is 60 zł =14 USD, avarage cost is 1000 zł =234 USD)
PS. All insurances are for a year.

I got into an accident 2 months ago. 100% the other idiots fault and the first accident I’ve ever been in after driving for 15 years. I’m an incredibly safe driver, I’ve had 1 ticket ever from when I was 16 and still learning to drive. My insurance company didn’t even know about the crash because I was just working with the other guys insurance. I bought a new car and called to get it added to my insurance and the rates magically went through the roof. Almost double what it was before. They claim it wasn’t because I got into an accident but that’s clearly bullshit. The most insane part about it was the fact that my insurance company didn’t have to pay a dime for my accident! In fact I did the math, and I’ve paid them somewhere around 18-20k for premiums in the last 15 years and have still never made a claim. On top of that, I got fucked over by the other guys insurance. It’s such a scam and these companies are pretty much immune from punishment. Anyone that says we live in a free country is a fucking idiot at this point.

I got hit by a school bus. So I call my insurance company and let them know thinking they will just contact the school districts insurance and handle the paperwork and all that stuff for me. The driver admitted she was at fault, the evidence showed she was at fault & Police report reflected she was at fault. My insurance told me there is a 500 deductible that I can be reimbursed for, but it might take awhile. I'm like this accident wasn't my fault, why am I paying anything out of pocket for something I did not cause?...They told me I could go straight through their insurance and avoid the deductible. So cool...I speak directly to their insurance and they sent a letter and also told me I will have to pay a 500 deductible and they will cover the rest, but I have to go through my insurance. But if I didn't have car insurance (Which is a no no) then they would cover the 500 hundred deductible. Why on Earth do I have to pay anything for something I did not cause lol? Nothing in this country makes sense. And if you're just going to reimburse me why do I have to even pay 500? How is this stuff even logical?.

This sort of applies to all insurance if you think of it from a business perspective. In order for the insurance company to stay in business, they have to make more money from you than you get from them. After so long, the amount of cash that they bail you out for is something you could handle without insurance.
The thing is that insurance also pitches in when it comes to legal issues and fine print. For instance, if you go to the hospital without health insurance, they'll often just charge you extra without you knowing because there's not some insurance official reading what exactly they're charging you for, so if you then ask for an itemized list of what exactly you're paying for, the price magically goes down. Also, if some sort of malpractice happens, a lot of people don't have the money on hand to pay for legal fees, so you can't really afford to sue someone UNLESS you're insured. While the insurance seems unnecessary, they're being paid to have your back against worse things.

    • @DBArtsCreators
      @DBArtsCreators 2 роки тому

The usual curse of insurance - everyone thinks it's unnecessary until they need it, but you have to pay for it when you don't need it to make sure it is there when you do need it.
That it is legally required is bullshit however.

I had a car insurance claim several months ago. When I went to renew my policy for my 125 cc scooter (not the car), they wanted $675 for six months of coverage! Which is half the value of it! I'm about to give up on owning motor vehicles if it is this bad.
I'll buy a heavy duty bicycle and put a motor on it. I could buy a heavy duty quality bicycle for $800. Adding a motor kit with super strong wheels would cost another $1000. If I didn't need any insurance for three years, that would pay for the bicycle. If I need to take a trip I'll use a plane or bus.
I lived for six years in Montana without owning a car. I owned a motorized bicycle. It was expensive to maintain and might have been cheaper to own a small scooter; but with insurance rates this insane, I'm more likely to do it again just to refuse to pay the insane insurance companies.

Don't forget that unless you pay for the super duper insurance package (for me it was 3x the normal one) your insurance doesn't help _you_ at all. It only benefits other drivers for you to have insurance. So if you get into an accident with someone, and they don't have insurance, you're the one who has to pay for your car out of pocket.
