War Thunder - P-51: The Altitude Advantage (Lite New Player Tutorial) Notes: 1. When I am talking about side climbing in this video I am talking about aircraft with a well below average climb rate such as the P-51 or stock aircraft, Not upgraded or average to above average climb rate aircraft. 2. Spiral climbing, Box climbing, Rail climbing, Zigzag climbing are all the same thing. Climbing over a point on the map allowing you to gain altitude without moving far in any direction. Use what ever name you prefer. 3. "Your wrong because I can. . . " Shut up and read the title, This is for new players. If you have more than 500 hours in War Thunder You should already know how to do everything I describe in this video and have your own variation of it. If you can do anything then this video it not for you! This video is for those that can't. Hope that clears everything up.
I realize that this is why those 2 matches that i recorded on the firefly went that good, started with alt advantage, well i side climb regardless which plane i'm flying, even with heavy fighters.
+keith benson Just keep at it in RB. I'm not the best, but I find RB can be really rewarding (both personally rewarding, and good for the grind.) There's only one way to get better at it.
As the other guy said keep at it, eventually you'll get good. I've been playing RB for around a month or two, now i usually always get around 2-4 kills a game with most nations. just learn the capabiliies of your aircraft.
Having recently gotten into this P-51, it is nice to know that it isn't ALL me doing the sucking. At one stage I would have been happier to put the 20mm's on my kittyhawk and fly THAT in the same BR. I did do it the hard way though, I basically unlocked this and switched from arcade to realistic. Boom and zoom, check. Climbing like a brick, check. Getting my silly arse owned by some 109 trop that comes from high and behind, check. Hopefully now my new climbing technique will help with that last problem. I do enjoy climbing up to knock out the bombers, since the 20's punch some nice holes - but trying to hit this new German flying boat (more like flying battleship) before it nukes a base is near impossible.
+Spit_flyer run into quite a few wonderful competent players on US teams. Its usually the mixed team and bomber span that screws the US over from my perspective. (spits climb straight towards the fight, get outnumbered, die, then whine about the Americans who are back still climbing, because they didn't engage) Also doesn't help that they are the highest maintenance team to play, as opposed to 360noscope Japan/Brit, LOL outrun everything below 5000m russia, and the German space program.
ᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ I'm really tired of people who try and use premiums as a primary balance discussion. Its pretty douchey, as not all of us are going to go out and buy an XP-50, or prem spit (or P47-M) And there are spit mk9s everywhere. This just goes to show how much of a money grab they are for gaijin. And even then, the US 1 last I checked has a lower climbrate than the russian ones because its lacking an upgrade. But I only checked a couple patches ago, dunno about now.
A point on what you said however: While the whole german team could climb straight across the map to get above you, your whole team can't spiral climb as it almost requires your team-mates to bait the enemy down for you to get the altitude advantage.
Thanks for the vid, Magz. This is one of the best, clearest explanations for War Thunder pilots I've seen yet on why "Speed is life, altitude is life insurance". If it convinces even one lawnmower to learn what his elevator does, then I'd say you'll have a success on your hands. I've been flying my Thunderbolts a lot lately in RB, and I get bitched out CONSTANTLY by both teams because I'll actually take the time to take altitude rather than just going after ground targets or derping straight into the middle of the map. I get accused of passive play, of cowardice, of ruining other people's fun, of dragging games on too long... All I have to say to all of that? "You don't like the way I play? Then come up here and do something about it."
+DMStraylight there is playing smart and then there is passive gameplay. people doesnt seem to know the difference.. its pretty sad, realy. i feel your pain
+DMStraylight Ignore them, You know when you are running from the fight and when you are taking a new position to attack and the people bitching in game chat will learn it when you kill them. :)
+DMStraylight If only most inexperienced players had the same attitude as you, and were willing to try to learn. What a wonderful game War Thunder would be.
There is a difference between taking the time to get high and staying high waiting for the opponents to get up in your turf. You've taken the example of the P47 and you're right you should take the time to get high, but at the same time, you must observe and analyze the progress of the game and adapt your play to it. I personnaly try to play for the team, and not just for me. Staying at 5000m when your team is being slaughtered at 2000m is just absurd. Better do sone BnZ to help your teamates and get some easy kills. At least, you would have done something and even though your team was bad and the game is lost, you've tried all you can to change the outcome. And you should be proud of that. If you are the last alive, staying at 7000m waiting for the ennemy to get you is not the right thing to do. Essentially because if they know what they're doing, they will never come at your alt, where you are a beast. If you stay at high alt doing nothing but waiting for them, that's when you drag the game and be passive.
Lork66 Agreed for the most part, but i will not dive until we won at altitude. if that means i have to fight alone up there, then so be it. if i die before i can drag them down to the team then be it becouse at that point, without anyone up at alt to challange the enemy, our team has allready lost. to be clear, i'm happy to bait for the team and not get a single kill if the engagements are entertaining, i dont mind a loss if it was a good fight :D
This video should be perma linked in the Warthunder GUI ! Thaaankyou Magz, cant tell you how many vets try and explain this in Team chat for Sicily in particular, which can be absolutely miserable to grind for allies thanks to team naivety or just plain lemmingness wish a death wish to aspirations of being a fish in a barrel for a german pilots fast grind ;P
***** very true, and with a VOIP a team (let alone a duo) can totally dominate a match. Taking the time to smart climb and fighting top to bottom. Not many are patient enough to do it though, that whole 2 mins extra must be 'awful' for em, they just really want to kill that pillbox fast, loading up a P51 with bombs and rockets cause... reasons :B But really theres always at least one or two wise US team players , keep an eye out and follow/mimick them if you're shot down and watching the chase cams, can learn so much from sticking around and seeing how its done.
***** Why yes, that's pretty much what I thought. Doesn't change the fact that the P-47 (if you're not turnfighting Russians at low alt) is easy mode, BnZ-ing 109 Es and BF 110s is not exactly difficult. But like I said, I don't want to take anything away from your accomplishment
Thanks for this Magz. Only been watching your vids for about 2 weeks now, but my RB tactics have gone way up. The way you explain everything as you do it has helped a ton, especially the elevator roll over. Was just flying the p40 last night, trying to climb up to a ju88 that was pulling away from me, wondering how the hell Americans are supposed to hang against the bf109 flight model buffs (which I've been loving when flying as germany).
Thats all well and good, but when i try to spiral climb while flying on an allied team all of my teammates are dead before i reach 15000 ft. almost without fail. I love american planes, but its just such a bummer flying with other american pilots. And it doesnt seem to get any better higher in the tech tree. Well, maybe some people will see this video and it will help matters.
I feel like Magz have read my question and decided to make a tutorial about it xD I have pretty much all of my questions regarding the subject answered in this video. Huuuuge thank you, Magz :)
Now tho, I have a different question - how do I optimise my climb? I know that there are planes that climb better in bursts, but I definitely do it wrong, as I do not feel a big differense.
nice video. hope a lot of folks will see it, cause pretty often while playing for US, the time you're climbing just a bit, 2/3 of the team is already dead at low altitude within 3-4 first minutes
This video should replace whatever series of videos that Warthunder published as "tutorial" on their page, because they just get as trivial as they can get, while Magz' one here is gold. What the video has demonstrate here is completely abiding to the principle of altitude advantage, which we rarely see in match and is very difficult to do because it requires the highest degree of self-discipline, but Magz you have demonstrated it brilliantly. :)
Such a good video, watched this about four or five times, why do I keep forgetting the advice when I'm in battle, would like to see one on aiming. many thanks.
@MagzTV YES, thank you so much for this. I'm so sick and tired of people complaining their planes (especially US pilots) are crap and unplayable and play as lawnmowers because they arnt the fastest climbers. hope this goes some way to helping
I love theese :D Don't worry about showing verry circumstance specific stuff. Telling a person what a flat-head screwdriver is and what it does best will not prevent people from trying them on a philips screw but they are still better off than without any tools :D everyone will learn eventually.
Thanks for explaining the altitude advantage here; there are an incredible amount of people who think that flying mid (2000-3000m) altitude in GERMAN aircraft will win them the game, because they get the fight quicker. It makes me even more angry when they blame you for the death of the team because you were climbing so high, while they didn't climb at all (I do specialize in German aircraft at the moment). Staying that low is especially dangerous when flying out against Russia. I know that in the video you were talking about aircraft that weren't good at climbing at all, but the altitude advantage in both worlds is non-the-less similar.
Technically the British wanted a ground attack aircraft. The RAF already had the spitfire as an air superiority fighter, so they went to North American and asked for P-40s. North American told them they could one up that and had a flying prototype of the mustang Mk 1 in 60 days and the RAF mounted Hispanios on it and thus the P-51 was born and soon grew into the future high altitude escort fighter of the USAF
Recently got 4 kills in the P-51 by exploiting its high-altitude performance. Don’t understand how so many people miss its absolutely mad combat potential. But then again, 90% of American planes require oodles of patience to fly correctly.
The p-51 is an absolute beast in arcade if you fly it well but not in realistic battles. Especially at high altitudes, its speed and turning suffers a lot. The guns are good but thats not worth it
what I think is funny is that in AB, you can go at a 20 degree climb at 375 kms/hr and still gain speed with the P51. It's the best climber in AB. I've never seen anything that can beat it when used right. The guns are incredible, especially in snapshots.
I always climb, mostly spiral or side climbing, but it is not really effective in an american team. The 90% of them are dead after 5 mins in the game, so about 3 players (at max) have to fight for nothing vs the entire enemy team after 10mins of climbing in the game. The ally games have a duration of 7mins in average so the 19mins of this match is the exception. I really hope for newbies to watch that kind of videos so they could expand their lifespan and the lifespan and quality of the game, but I doubt that they do :(
"This video is on climbing in aircraft with poor climb rates" *head perks up* If only I'd seen this when I going through the stock grind on my P-51D-5.
i used to play a lot of arcade. I loved the P51 in arcade, with air targets that thing couldnt be stopped. I got a 9killstreak with it. not the greatest in realistic but I still love it :D
MagZ, would you mind doing a video like this for the vampire. I really want to enjoy flying it, but I am having a lot of trouble going up against sabres, but I am told it can do well against them. Whether or not that is true, I feel like I should be doing better than I am with it. Thanks, and have a good day.
+Michinator3000 In arcade yes it is good. Arcade FM's allow the plane to climb and maneuver well above what it can do in RB, Overheating will never kill the engine, It has unlimited mid air reloads and a dot that tells you where to shoot and to top it off most arcade battles never exceed 8000 feet so its always in its power zone.
What is it with those statcards in warthunder? The stats say the P-51 reaches its max. speed at 17000 feet, but you say its actually bad at high alt. And i have experienced similar things as well. The statcards of the FW-190 As say they have a horrible climbrate, but in reality i dont really have many problems, the a-4 actuall climbs pretty decent at 20° and 280kph. So whats that about?
+Handman6363 Statcards in WT have never been correct, You use them as a rough guide but never believe anything they say. A great example of this at the moment it the 109 E-3 vs the 109 E-4. Have a look at the stat cards then fly them out and see the difference for yourself.
magz love your channel, ill cut to it. im about to get my first f-86(a-5)could you do a video showing what f model sarbre you wowuld choose and why thanks mate
The high tier P-38s don't have to side climb much. Mine is stock (save for .50s belts) and I ALWAYS find myself higher than the German teams, so hog that I can't dive and engage without suffering control loss (P-38s do this at high speeds). I also think that the early P-51 is a half-decent plane to fly, I usually fly it to wind down I fact. I will have to try spiral climbing though. Thanks Magz!!
Hey Magz, would you be willing to do an in depth commentary on how you land an aircraft in IL2 Battle of Stalingrad with and without a crosswind? I've been attempting to do the campaign before going online... but uh... I have yet to successfully land.
+Ranak Lindor Big blanket advice: take it slow. If you have time, take your time. Do long calm maneuvers to approach the runway straight (compensated for crosswind) and with a slow but safe (non stall) speed.
I might be the only one here... But I kind of like the P51. Those guns are amazing :P Also, I like your videos keep up the good work, cheers from Sweden :P
Id like to see a different paint scheme on the P-51A. I have a model with the same exact paint scheme and I havent seen anything different and I'm talking about U.S. colors.
You should do a tutorial on Boom and Zoom Magz. Not many people seem to know what that is and why it makes altitude important. A good plane to demonstrate with is the FW190 or any US plane. I would pick the P-38 for it's acceleration. BnZ is the only way I fight in every plane(except the spit's).
this P51 mustang doesn't suffer much from compressibility, doesn't it? Elevator authority looked pretty decent in that dive on the 109 f2, aswell the roll rate. Make my fw190 D9 is jealous because it doesn't roll at all at 600 kph+ ias.
+floh667 Elevator authority is good at speed. The problem it the ailerons and rudder, Yaw and Roll go out the window past 475kph IAS. You'll notice this most when I was going for the P-47 kill, The plane was rocking rather than Yawing or Rolling preventing me from getting the guns where I needed them.
I absolutely adore the p 51 and I have had great succwas in it, but I am quite annoyed at how the p 51 d 30's have such a high repair cost that they are useless in ground pounding and bomber hunting.
but that does not work in matches where thw enemy team can outspeed you after a dive. also, the a5 is 9.0, and the p 51 is 4.7. for fucks sake, its make less per kill, and is probably going to be good, only because of the 50 cal buff
Also, you said the P51(a) wasn't really good at anything, ive heard it was actually pretty decent at manuevers at low altitudes and pretty fast. It was used as a recon and intruder by the British at first and a slow recon plane is not ideal in enemy territory.
Hey Magz just curious if you could do a video related to stock jets and this issue. Being tier 5 it is very hard to unlock modules and when you're basically just flying a stock vampire waiting to be bnz'd by a mig15 it gets very frustrating.
Magz what do you think of the idea that American planes could have an air spawn ( I think 1500m )? I don't fly Americans so I have no idea how this would affect anything and the thought just came to me half way through this video but what do you think?
+Dredgeco Bill Hate the idea, US planes are already under-tiered across the board so lets up the hand holding by giving them all air spawns at 300+kph as well! I roll my eyes every time I see it. As you can see in this video you don't need an air spawn you just need to put in effort, If your not willing to put in effort you should get shot down by those that did.
Shaw Rosowitsch True, But that's not a problem with the plane, it's a problem with the pilots. You should never ever balance a game on the quality of its players, Doing that is the root of all the current problems in the BR system.
MagzTV Well when you put it that way I suppose you are right but they have to do something because I just can't play American planes, they are to boring for me not because of the time it takes (although that is part of it but I can deal with it) but because I am usually the only person who does it, this has caused me to completely stop playing them. Maybe a solution is to put in a non-optional tutorial (Harsh and annoying I know but if it gets them to do it right then I don't care) Anyway thanks for the reply Magz, love your videos and keep doing what you are doing no matter what.
Say Magz, maybe you can help with this? Usually I sideclimb and get on par with the other enemy figthers, so I try to fly away to get more alt.. Unfortunately they soon catch me in a line or climb(damn yaks and la's) and force me in a head-on and win everytime. Problem: I spend 5-10 min sideclimbing/railclimbing just to get forced in a head-on and shot back to the hanger. Runnig away doesnt work, because they are usually faster then me. Is it me or just bad planes?
+cingasong Depends on what you're flying. Russian fighters tend to be light with good specific power, meaning they'll accelerate well in a straight line, but they tend to have mediocre top speeds and poor dive performance. If you're getting forced into fights you don't want to accept, it means you're not turning away soon enough. Watch Magz in the vid: the moment he spots targets that are in a favorable position to attack him, he turns away even if they're still 6 km away, and works to maintain that distance as much as he is able. If you can't turn and run because you're pinned against the side of the map... well, that's what Magz was talking about with sideclimbing not always being a good idea.
+cingasong if you can see them, its too late. try to predict where the enemy is and stay well clear of thatarea. as shown in this video, ontop of you airfield is the safest place in the battle becouse between you and the enemy lies your whole team. turn around and get mor alt. allso, deny headons if you cant win them.
+cingasong The notion that Soviet planes are all low alt is contextual. Most Yaks are good up to around 3200 meters, an La5 FN about 4200 meters, and the Yak 3 performs very well all the way up to 5 kilometers. As you've no doubt seen, one-on-one they keep evading your passes until you run out of energy, then proceed to stomp you in formulaic fashion. 2 v 2 gives you much better odds, the first P-51 forces the Yak to commit to an evasion, and the second Mustang finishes the committed enemy.Even if their optimum ceiling is as good as yours, climbing usually helps. You have better high speed energy retention while it lasts, and your wings can resist faster dives before snapping off. Against a Yak 3/La 5FN though, you need more than that; you need your team.

another good example why German teams lose that often nowerdays. they had all the advantage, but yet they gave it up. seems like all of them dove down to lower alt probably following a single enemy plane to sea level and get picked up 1by1 due the bad low alt performance of the messerschmitts and folkewulffs
+ChickenNulty Correct, had they been american AN-M2's it wouldn't be able to shoot you down, those things are like single pellet shotguns, no precision
I see people talking about americans and why they never climb, Magz said it best. especially with this plane, above 10k feet it sucks, and everything will climb higher than you every single time. thats why a lot of americans stay low. if you stay low, eventually, they have to come down to stop you.
um.........i out climb alot of my opponents in the spitfire. also with my p51. sometimes they will out climb me though i might be over exaggerating. but i out climb my opponents most of the time. great video magz!
+MagzTV true. well i play like 1-3 matches and im the highest of them all. also like to say (which i did not hear in the video...might have coverd this im not sure because i was listening while doing homework lol) was the degree you climb is very important in my book. id like to say that you are a great player and enjoy admiring your videos and tatics very much :) im sorry if i am making you angry though. and if im being stupid lol
+MagzTV well haha no offense but you have a tone a voice which you seem angry or annoyed...im sorry if im mean but its honest....but i really like your voice, its so awesome! so when ever i read something written from you. i always read it in your tone of voice haha and get this angry tone from it if it makes sense. in a weird saying..your tone of voice is so awesome and just makes me happy to hear...just suits you very well...espically for a youtuber! XD
hope you dont take this offensive...i just dont know where your limits are and id be shatterd to annoy you and make you angry because you are one of my favorite youtuber. and having a little conversation like this makes me happy XD just dont want to be on your blacklist you know? i am careful...least trying to be
you said that a fully upgraded german aircraft can outclimb a spitfire when he optimizes his climb angle (or something close to that) could you make a tutorial on that, would be extremly helpful :) (like this tutorial, might help me get some upgrades on the 109 K4)
+AceCustomz You are talking high level 109's I mentioned in this video 3 times That this was for new players in lower level planes, Hell I even put that in the title. When I referenced Spitfires I even mentioned low level Spit in the video. Starting to feel like no one is listening here.
+MagzTV i have a habit of not hearing some words sometimes and while i'm not a new player, i've just recently got into RB (since this summer) and i like it alot thank you for response
AceCustomz All good mate, I'll have to be clearer in the future on things like this, You are not the only one that missed it so that will be something to improve on. I'll take a look at something for higher level aircraft soon. If I don't to a tutorial of some kind I'll look into flying out some of the later 109's :)
The Mustang mk 1a doesn't have the worst climbrate. The corsairs hold the title for that. If you WEP climb with the P-51 you shouldn't have trouble getting to a reasonable alt.
+Nova7557 Climb with WEP holding 275 to 280kph IAS maintained. It will out climb the P-51 almost keeping with the P-38G. If you watch in the background you can see an F4U out climbing me in this video.
MagzTV I swear it feels like I get to alt quicker in my mk 1a. I love my corsairs but without MEC they always feel like bricks when trying to get to alt.
+MagzTV The thing is, corsairs has very limited ADI to allow long WEP time, so you end up using part 100% and part WEP during your climb so you can save some ADI for combat
Well...dunno if its just me or the game..but every time I go out in my fully spaded G-10 I get outclimbed by Spitfires all the time. I tried multiple tactics and they were always above me...maybe its just me doing something wrong..dunno..
+kamata93 No there's nothing you got wrong, I mentioned three times in this video that i was talking about low level aircraft for new players, I mention early Spitfires by name at least once. Even the title is clearly marked new player and new players are not flying LF IX's or Gryphon Spits or G-10's. I figured three mentions and directly referencing low level spitfires should be enough but I guess not.
No, not your bad. More than a few people have asked similar questions so I think in my more tutorial focused videos I'm going to have to be cleared in the future. Best improve if I want to do more.
+Nicholas Burridge It can be when stock, I tent to climb in a larger area in the D model Mustangs. Not just on the runway, Keeping my climb on my side of the map cross climbing against the angle most of my team is climbing on.
+Sakacarottes If your flying over BR 4.7 aircraft no, High level Brits have some very fast climbers and this video was for new players in low level aircraft. If you are flying below 4.7 and getting out climbed by Brits then yes you are not climbing at maximum. At 3.7 BR where this battle took place there should be no allied aircraft that can beat 109 in a climb. The New E-4 at 2.7 can break 11,000 feet in a little over 2 minutes after wheels up and be at almost 20k by the time you are at the enemy if you are climbing right.
this is a super good strategy, but the fact is at the end of the day I'm playing a video game. I want to have fun, and sometimes low alt is fun. If you want to win it is indeed the worst decision to go low.
+A10troll And that's fine, Not everyone wants to be a competitive player and the truth is what I showed in this video wouldn't work unless someone was on the deck as bait. :)
+MagzTV Since we are on the subject, I *like* playing in the dirt. Unfortunately, I am a two-week newb flying biplane bullet magnets in arcade. Could you recommend something to use that turns like a goosed bat and carries serious firepower? I am assuming a grind here. I do not mind playing as bait as long as I can vaporize one or two of them before I get shot up and fly into the side of something. Or am I just dreaming because I'm in arcade and everything is rubbish? If that's the way it is, what about the least worst?? Thanks for the excellent tutorial. All your stuff helps. You are sure you do not want to move to Canada, eh? We do have desert in southern B.C.
i gave up on WT. they made GF a joke. first they remove Sim and i learned to accept that and switched to RB. enjoyed that a lot and what does Gaijin do? they bring back markers. again i grudgingly accepted that but now they got this new thing called Assault Fuses and that was the final nail in the coffin. i just hope IL2 makes Tanks fun.
it might be bad in realistic but if u take that thing into arcade with air target rounds (if your good) 13kills guarantied (job done) HUGE RANGE laser beam accuracy rapid fire rate and LOADS OF AMMO
+Michael Hinsley Yep, That's why I lost interest in Arcade and went primary realistic in the first place, The normalized FM's and simplified physics make the aircraft irrelevant. Even shit with wings can score well in Arcade, The only stat that matters is the guns.
MagzTV haha yea im getting into realistic now i had a game got 3 kills in p40 :D usually i play arcade though cus well if you know the maneuvers from realistic you will just dominate. keep up the good work magz :).
i know this video is from 2015 and my comment is from 2022 but from my experience is that the P-51 has weak guns and has terrible "health" persay. there are times ill unload all my rounds into someone and they wont die. someone else will come in and essentially one-shot me from 80 meters away.
Aim better, I know it sounds arrogant and "Git gud" comments are normally stupid but that's the truth. The thing with .50's is while each individual round has relatively low amounts of damage you make up for that with volume of fire i.e. while a German aircraft may hit you with 1 20mm round that does big damage you hit with tens to hundreds of small rounds in that same time. The mistake people generally make however is they hose down the whole target putting .50 all over the aircraft which spreads that damage around rather than focusing it. The trick to making .50's work is first, make sure you have incendiaries in the belt you pick (fire good) and second is to pick a part of the plane you want to hit and aim to put ALL of the .50 you fire into that one section. Cut off the tail or the wing, saturate the cockpit, pick a point and kill it rather than trying to destroy every part of the aircraft at the same time. Once you work out how to do that you'll suddenly find yourself on the other side of the fence with people complaining that .50 is OP and needs to be nerfed.
War Thunder - P-51: The Altitude Advantage (Lite New Player Tutorial)
Notes:
+MagzTV bomber tutorial would be nice too
this video changed my life, i can finally play like magz
+Touching Twat One weird trick to help you climb! German pilots hate it!
+Legatus Marcus Nah not really
Source: German pilot
I realize that this is why those 2 matches that i recorded on the firefly went that good, started with alt advantage, well i side climb regardless which plane i'm flying, even with heavy fighters.
Wish i was good at this game, i hate arcade but totally suck in RB
same
+keith benson Just keep at it in RB.
Lol same
Having recently gotten into this P-51, it is nice to know that it isn't ALL me doing the sucking.
I do enjoy climbing up to knock out the bombers, since the 20's punch some nice holes - but trying to hit this new German flying boat (more like flying battleship) before it nukes a base is near impossible.
i still like the p51. its one of my favorite planes for some reason
Oh, the BV238 is freaking overpowered.
Another tip: work as a team... oh, I forgot... American teams...
+Spit_flyer run into quite a few wonderful competent players on US teams. Its usually the mixed team and bomber span that screws the US over from my perspective. (spits climb straight towards the fight, get outnumbered, die, then whine about the Americans who are back still climbing, because they didn't engage)
Also doesn't help that they are the highest maintenance team to play, as opposed to 360noscope Japan/Brit, LOL outrun everything below 5000m russia, and the German space program.
+Linkxsc

+Linkxsc "German Space Program"
Really now?
Low tier, maybe, high tier though...
ᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ
I'm really tired of people who try and use premiums as a primary balance discussion. Its pretty douchey, as not all of us are going to go out and buy an XP-50, or prem spit (or P47-M)
And there are spit mk9s everywhere. This just goes to show how much of a money grab they are for gaijin. And even then, the US 1 last I checked has a lower climbrate than the russian ones because its lacking an upgrade. But I only checked a couple patches ago, dunno about now.
+Linkxsc end of the day it depends on the pilot. You're damn right
Also nice to know: Raise your combat flaps when climbing :) :P

@@MrHdudley3 more lift

A point on what you said however:
While the whole german team could climb straight across the map to get above you, your whole team can't spiral climb as it almost requires your team-mates to bait the enemy down for you to get the altitude advantage.
+The_ Kiwi to be honest, the P-47 is pretty undertiered though, still two weeks without a loss is rather amazing
As soon as i got this thing, I felt like I was lied to.
Wow, I just found this almost 4 year old vid and I finally found out that my climbing style in this aircraft has a name. Cool.
Damn, this helped me so much overall, but especially with American planes in all modes.
I feel like Magz have read my question and decided to make a tutorial about it xD
I have pretty much all of my questions regarding the subject answered in this video. Huuuuge thank you, Magz :)
Now tho, I have a different question - how do I optimise my climb? I know that there are planes that climb better in bursts, but I definitely do it wrong, as I do not feel a big differense.
Ray Asahara Thanks, will do when I will be able to play it again :)
nice video. hope a lot of folks will see it, cause pretty often while playing for US, the time you're climbing just a bit, 2/3 of the team is already dead at low altitude within 3-4 first minutes
Cool video Magz. Newbies take note... the man knows what he's sayin
Got the P-51 spaded before the video, yet the video thought me a little more how to use this plane though I have a good success rate with it. Thanks!
Such a good video, watched this about four or five times, why do I keep forgetting the advice when I'm in battle, would like to see one on aiming. many thanks.
have learned so much watching this channel. nice going mate. keep up the good work!
@MagzTV YES, thank you so much for this. I'm so sick and tired of people complaining their planes (especially US pilots) are crap and unplayable and play as lawnmowers because they arnt the fastest climbers. hope this goes some way to helping
"magz, im watching one of your videos right now, the one on the banshee"
"thats a little out of date"
i laughed so hard
I know that in the video you were talking about aircraft that weren't good at climbing at all, but the altitude advantage in both worlds is non-the-less similar.
thanks for the video i never thought about climbing like that.
The guns are good but thats not worth it
YT Games I only play RB (:
P-51D? Because this one is actually good, loo
what I think is funny is that in AB, you can go at a 20 degree climb at 375 kms/hr and still gain speed with the P51.
I really hope for newbies to watch that kind of videos so they could expand their lifespan and the lifespan and quality of the game, but I doubt that they do :(
"This video is on climbing in aircraft with poor climb rates" *head perks up*
If only I'd seen this when I going through the stock grind on my P-51D-5.
This just does not happening in games. Just laziness and greed.
And this crap starts showing up in german teams...
Reason #37 on why Magz is so good.
Nice strategies. I think it should be noted too that P-51 has the highest to speed in a dive at its battle rating.
i love how i played a match as this was playing and i ended up lookin for 2 109's like u were in the vid lol
You must have a serious lag on your computer, the videos at least 4 years old
TKCjr, now thats's a squadron tag I haven't seen in a long time...
i used to play a lot of arcade. I loved the P51 in arcade, with air targets that thing couldnt be stopped. I got a 9killstreak with it. not the greatest in realistic but I still love it :D
These are great Magz. Keep it up!
MagZ, would you mind doing a video like this for the vampire. I really want to enjoy flying it, but I am having a lot of trouble going up against sabres, but I am told it can do well against them. Whether or not that is true, I feel like I should be doing better than I am with it. Thanks, and have a good day.
I play mainly arcade, and I find this plane crazy good, as with fully upgraded cannons they never jam, and with air target ammo you shred anyone
Nice video Magz, very good info there.
small problem, by the time the germans get to the wall, the spitfires are already engaging the 109s
and if everyone did this, the germans would just climb to 10k meters and then wait for the americans attempt to climb to them
Magz way of flying compared to mine, WEP the plane to death and cool off whenever you feel like it.
MagzTV
Yeah, the E-4 is just so much better :D
This is an awesome arcade grinder
Should I try this same tactic for the higher level p51s as well or would that be a bad idea?
magz love your channel, ill cut to it. im about to get my first f-86(a-5)could you do a video showing what f model sarbre you wowuld choose and why thanks mate
2nd Kill was beautiful.
Thanks magz I always love to watch ur videos, and now I know how to crush the Germans.
What would i do if i'm on a carrier map and i'm in a bomber and the only one left on the team and the enemy is closing in
In the match I submitted to the contest, I wouldn't have won if I didn't side climb. I'm really hoping I win just to see it on the channel. xd
Those guns are amazing :P
Also, I like your videos keep up the good work,
cheers from Sweden :P
Id like to see a different paint scheme on the P-51A. I have a model with the same exact paint scheme and I havent seen anything different and I'm talking about U.S. colors.
this plane kicks ass in arcade
AK47 Eason in arcade...
I frequently go 3-5 kills in RB with it. But then again, it’s currently my favorite plane to fly XD
13:48 Why does a timer of 2 minutes pop up near the water temperature?
You should do a tutorial on Boom and Zoom Magz. Not many people seem to know what that is and why it makes altitude important. A good plane to demonstrate with is the FW190 or any US plane. I would pick the P-38 for it's acceleration. BnZ is the only way I fight in every plane(except the spit's).
p51D5 is the nost rewarding for BnZ especually with the now nerfed 50s
+MyNamesAreCreative Being a complete newb (around two weeks) flying bullet magnets, what does "nerfed" mean, please?
Thanks
Nerfed means debuffed
this P51 mustang doesn't suffer much from compressibility, doesn't it?
Then don't do that until the end of a match while the fighters are gone or while you're waiting for the last one to show himself
my problem is not how to use it, but i have no made any sl with it when it got its repair price raised
its almost as rediculous as some spitfires
*Ahem* It has the same lions booster as the A-5 Sabre.
Get a couple kills in a match that your team won, and boom. 40k
but that does not work in matches where thw enemy team can outspeed you after a dive. also, the a5 is 9.0, and the p 51 is 4.7. for fucks sake, its make less per kill, and is probably going to be good, only because of the 50 cal buff
Can I fly the P-51 like I do the P-40 and P-39, low level going to intercept base rushers or ground pounders?
nice work magz
I kinda hope he doesn't catch me in the skies.
I found out that model is a p51 B it says in the cockpit bottom right and it said what model and when it was made
Keep it Up Magz!
+MagzTV as only like 30% of the US.pilots do
Shaw Rosowitsch True, But that's not a problem with the plane, it's a problem with the pilots.
Damn thier just dissing my favorite plane i was watching this for tips not for them to totally bash my plane
Against a Yak 3/La 5FN though, you need more than that; you need your team.

another good example why German teams lose that often nowerdays. they had all the advantage, but yet they gave it up. seems like all of them dove down to lower alt probably following a single enemy plane to sea level and get picked up 1by1 due the bad low alt performance of the messerschmitts and folkewulffs
i live in Australia to and you are awesome
Can u help me out I'm getting problem 80002008 and I can't connect to a server. I am on Mac
This plane is perfect for arcade where climbing isnt as important
Despite the climb rate, these bloody things always shoot me down in late tier 2. The guns are Hispano's, no?
+ChickenNulty Correct, had they been american AN-M2's it wouldn't be able to shoot you down, those things are like single pellet shotguns, no precision
Speed in kmph and altitude in feets Noice!
magz could you please please please fly the mig 9 regular not late and hopefully stock I need help despirately plz?
Do you play on steam or just war thunder launcher.
I see people talking about americans and why they never climb, Magz said it best. especially with this plane, above 10k feet it sucks, and everything will climb higher than you every single time. thats why a lot of americans stay low. if you stay low, eventually, they have to come down to stop you.
Spitfires can usually out climb the Germans can they not?
+Tom Somerfield Era IV Spits such as the LF IX Can, But this video is about 3.7 BR aircraft. Spitfire II's IIb's and V's can't.
um.........i out climb alot of my opponents in the spitfire. also with my p51. sometimes they will out climb me though
i might be over exaggerating. but i out climb my opponents most of the time. great video magz!
+Minx Man Then they where stock or they made the mistake of not climbing, I say as much in the video.
Minx Man Not angry at all mate. Not sure why you would think I was :)
XD
hope you dont take this offensive...i just dont know where your limits are and id be shatterd to annoy you and make you angry because you are one of my favorite youtuber. and having a little conversation like this makes me happy XD just dont want to be on your blacklist you know? i am careful...least trying to be
you said that a fully upgraded german aircraft can outclimb a spitfire when he optimizes his climb angle (or something close to that)
could you make a tutorial on that, would be extremly helpful :) (like this tutorial, might help me get some upgrades on the 109 K4)
+AceCustomz You are talking high level 109's I mentioned in this video 3 times That this was for new players in lower level planes, Hell I even put that in the title. When I referenced Spitfires I even mentioned low level Spit in the video. Starting to feel like no one is listening here.
+MagzTV i have a habit of not hearing some words sometimes
and while i'm not a new player, i've just recently got into RB (since this summer) and i like it alot
thank you for response
AceCustomz All good mate, I'll have to be clearer in the future on things like this, You are not the only one that missed it so that will be something to improve on. I'll take a look at something for higher level aircraft soon.
If I don't to a tutorial of some kind I'll look into flying out some of the later 109's :)
MagzTV may i also recommend something?
he162
it seems to have deacent MM atm
My favorite plane to fight jets with.
This thing spades is almost unstoppable
MagzTV So I just flew out my F4U-1d. Was the plane recently given a 3rd supercharger gear? I remember it only having 2.
Nova7557 Not that I am aware of, Don't think the F4U's had much in the way of changes this patch.
MagzTV
I hear ya :D my bad..
No, not your bad. More than a few people have asked similar questions so I think in my more tutorial focused videos I'm going to have to be cleared in the future. Best improve if I want to do more.
Is spiral climbing the tier 4 p51's a better option?
+Nicholas Burridge It can be when stock, I tent to climb in a larger area in the D model Mustangs. Not just on the runway, Keeping my climb on my side of the map cross climbing against the angle most of my team is climbing on.
but you have to climb on wep
The flag on the right side of the vertical stabilizer triggers me.
Flag orientation back then wasnt done the same as it is now. Look at WWII American uniforms, the flag doesnt "face forward" like modern flags do.
When war thunder was fun!!!what times.
Why do you say German outclimb everything? I'm always outclimbed by brits (rarely by americans tho). Am i doing something wrong?
bait is my middle name man, hs 129 b-3 is an effective lure.
MagzTV ah yes my joystick finally came, il 2 bos for me now!
P51d wont even work right for me.
Do the sea hurricane it's heavy and doesn't work very well
How do I get it?
i gave up on WT. they made GF a joke. first they remove Sim and i learned to accept that and switched to RB. enjoyed that a lot and what does Gaijin do? they bring back markers. again i grudgingly accepted that but now they got this new thing called Assault Fuses and that was the final nail in the coffin. i just hope IL2 makes Tanks fun.
Simulator battles is still in the game...
magz play pe8 pz
I am in level 16 will I be considered a new player .
yup most squads lvl cap their members to atleast 25
Why did he not use the air target ammo for the hispanos?
+Patrick Jonak Because I don't like air target ammo.
+MagzTV why not?
it might be bad in realistic but if u take that thing into arcade with air target rounds (if your good) 13kills guarantied (job done) HUGE RANGE laser beam accuracy rapid fire rate and LOADS OF AMMO
