- Join me and my husband, Mark, for another day in the life of a doctor. Today we're seeing patients in the hospital. You'll learn all about liver cirrhosis, the fluid that builds up in the abdomen and the procedure to remove it. Plus learn about the many conditions that can cause high blood pressure and hypertensive emergencies!
Special thank you to nurse Angel, the lab techs and to the entire medical team at the hospital for making this video possible!

I love seeing Mark be a bit more comfortable on camera!
Would Mark be able to give us a bit of an overview on what he does as a hospitalist? Google seems very broad on the topic and I would love to know more!
Was about to ask the same thing! I'd like to understand more what it is.
I’d like to know more too!
I'm also interested! 😊 I think that's a title that doesn't exist everywhere in the world
Yes
Yes! I don’t think we have a comparable title in the UK
The only problem with this video is it's too short hahaha love it ❤
truth! 😅❤
Agree!
Hahaha thought the same thing…make them longer Shiobahn pls
Let's be happy with what we get. She is a doctor. I'm actually surprised she has the time to share this much with us. :)
Agreed!
How cool that the Canadian government is able to give out passes for the National Parks. How amazing!!
In the US, just the visit to the doctor would cost enough to make a free National Park pass not worth it :(
Yeyeye eey3yyeyeeyeyeye I yu miss 😅😢😢😮 0:25 and I are

I love your matching shoes! It's so cute! I love how well you both explain things that are happening and you don't do it in a condescending tone. I look forward to your videos. 💞
I love seeing Mark in the video, and you can tell his comfort level has grown with it too!
One of my university professors (I finished 10 years ago) was from the Sault.
I also remember when my grandfather had cancer (he passed away over 19 years ago), he had fluid on his belly too.
I would love to see a video comparing your different roles as an internal medicine specialist vs hospitalist!
Siobhan, I was having high blood pressure at 15. Thank goodness they did all the tests that you mentioned. I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease at 15. I have been living with the disease for 5 years.
Hey Lilla! Glad they figured it out early and hope you are doing well. Always great to hear from you!
I can totally relate! I'm 23 having the same problems now... i too have possible CKD but waiting on biopsy results to confirm... i hope yours is under control Lilla :)
I feel for you. I was diagnosed with CKD at 27, but it was suspected when I was 22. I've now been living with it for 26 years and have had a successful (live donor) transplant. There is light at the end of the tunnel, even though it may not feel like it at times. Ruth
The kidneys regulate blood pressure so CKD can lead to blood pressure changes or fluid retention
I loved Mark’s description of how to read the ultrasound, and how the paracentesis is performed. I’d love to see more of these descriptions in the videos. 😃
I hadn't heard of the Prescription Parks passes, but hoping to use for my patients, so I've registered. (I'm a family doc in Ontario) Thanks for the tip :-) P.S. I think the matchy matchy shoes are cute.
First I've heard of the Park passes. I love this for our Canadian health. Thank you for sharing 👍👍
As a student nurse I love your videos! I love listening to you and what you do at work during the day! you are so good at what you do and I love how you explain everything in detail! the best!
I was actually in the ER (USA) last night. First time ever having a sudden spike in BP. My normal is roughly 128/78. Was 200/94 upon arrival. They never gave me any meds, just did EKG, labs and chest xray. 5 hours later, discharged at 154/78. Dr never even listened to my heart/ lungs. It surprised me to see how you evaluated your patient. I wish I had received the care your patient got!
You are great doctors and teachers!

Thanks for all these highly educational videos you (and now your husband) do, it's fascinating to get an inside look at the medical field. I came across your videos in 2019 while I was in TGH recovering from a liver transplant and have been watching ever since. I want to thank you for the BeaDonor shout out! 💚

I’ve never been this early to one of your videos! I absolutely love these and I literally wait for these to come out omg
I love seeing you together and the idea of matching shoes - brilliant.
Thanks for the clarification about the OB topic,
I was in the hospital last year after getting quite sick. I was in for three weeks when I was assigned a hospitalist and I was better a week after. Hospitalists are AWESOME. Thanks for busting your buns for all of us folks Mark!
As a nurse working on a liver translant/HPB/gastro ward it was so cool seeing the ascites and being able to understand what was going on! 😀
it's crazy that I started watching these videos years ago, just fascinated at the medical info. now I'm in med school and could follow along in depth and understand everything! Also, what great timing, I'm in the thick of my GI unit (learning liver!) and finished learning hypertension in my cardio block weeks ago!
i love seeing both of you!
I love love love this new style of videos
Great work guys
I think it is cute that you have matching shoes. Thanks for your great videos, and I am happy that you make more videos showing you and your husband together.

Great work Guys Love it
Favorite Doc on YT
I work as a clinical research coordinator (I'm not a doctor) and one of the studies I'm working with right now is looking at plural fluid (fluid around the lungs) that is collected from patients trying to improve the accuracy of the tests done to detect signs of cancer in that fluid. I consent patients to the study and then go pick up fluid from cytology (pathology) if there is enough left after what is needed for clinical use and take it to the research lab, so I'm familiar with those little vials of fluid. My role is a part of research most people don't realize exists, sort of a bridge between the patient and the researchers, although often the doctors the patients are seeing are the researchers as well.
Love your content & shoes! Doctor momma Jones shouted you out the other day on her UA-cam channel when talking about great female doctors with a UA-cam channel. Of course I’ve been watching you for years so it didn’t surprise me cause you are amazing ❤
The matching shoes are great. Love it.
Loving the videos with both of you! Keep them coming! 😃
The only thing that would make this video better is if it was longer. Love seeing you and Mark doing videos together.
I love that park pass program! What a great way to incentivize folks to get up and out into nature! ❤ Wish we had something similar in the US.
Oh, the best husband and wife doctors in the world. Thank you for the video. Specially the liver stuff. Oh my gosh I hope he’s feeling better. That happened to me when I perforated my colon they sent me to interventional radiology within two days and then they drained me and I felt so much better. Thank you both of you for saving lives. God bless!
I absolutely LOVE these videos! I love how you go through what the cause of different conditions may be. It helps me a lot when I start my internship 🥰

Where were you when I was working. Oh, yeah, in Canada. Lol. I was a nurse for 39 years. Retired two years ago. Did acute dialysis for 32 of those years in the hospital days and nights. Love your upbeat attitude. Would have like running into those smiles every now and then. 😊
Saw a notification and immediately found your new video! :)))
You guys are inspirational! :)
