never seen a more likeable woman in my life. What a gem.
she's so passionate! while i love learning no matter what, someone who is passionate will hold my attention much better!
My father just spent two months in the hospital. Took that long to get to a diagnosis to be told nothing can be done to help his situation... I wish his doctors were HALF as pleasant as this doctor is! Night and day!!
You and Mark, are a blessing to the medical community. Thank you both for sharing your journey.❤
Totally agree. 👍
I have Crohn’s disease and no longer have a colon. I felt his pain just by watching the video. Thank you for caring. ❤
Another Chronie here! Thank you for covering this topic because for me it can often be embarrassing, painful and frustrating. Thank you for shedding light on a disease that isn't talked about that much!
same here i have had ibs type D for over 40 year's. not fun
@@nightmansmemoin IBS I can relate as a crohn patient, as in diarrhea and bloating all day.
But commenting as if they are comparable doesn’t make any sense. Here is an example why: Had a stoma for 2 years but fistula made it difficult so they removed the stoma. Went in for my first Crohn surgery and ended up in 7 months hospital: 3 months ICU, 2 months in a coma and 2,5 months on breathing tube (nightmare!) due to Seam leakage. I got very sick with Peritonitis, abcessen, collapsed lungs, fistula, gal bladder removed, open belly with bogota bag and every day cleaning my gut on the inside (35 times!) it was that infected and I had high fever all the time that my belly was open (7 months..)Almost died twice due to complications and loss of blood after surgery and weakness. I woke up thinking I just got my surgery but it was 2 months later and I couldn’t move, speak or breath on my own. In Rehab and had to learn how to breath, walk and talk again like a 40 kilogram baby. Then rehab so not going home, I hated it still being locked up and feeling sick, but had to go working out with an open belly and a sponge in the middle to remove debris. Ambulance came to pick me up again, the sponge in my belly pulled a hole in my bowl and created another fistula😵💫 Hardest time of my life, I celebrated my 30’th birthday in the hospital.
What I and the doctors learned from it was, that it’s better to undergo surgery instead of using cortisone for a long time in high doses, if other treatments fail. The predinose made all the tissue super fragile, which led to leakage and not placing a stoma asap after led to Peritonitis and critical illness polyneuropathie. I was 18 when I got my Crohn diagnose and after 3 months I got artritis, exactly like in the video here with swollen knee, toe and some sort of inflammation in my eyes. Had to quit my job and ballet. Lucky Infliximab medication works for both but it gave me chronic skincancer so that sucks. Going to read the book she recommended, always looking for new and healthier ways;). In remission for more than 10 years now, trying without medication next year🤞🏼
So yeah, IBS and IBD /crohn in my case, are very very different! Not to say you don’t suffer from IBS but it’s not comparable imo.. Some have both 🎉
Yay! You uploaded again. Love your videos and enthusiasm. I'm working to become a doctor too when I grow up.
I have Crohn’s disease as well. So glad to see you touch on this. I absolutely LOVE your videos. Your channel definitely helped me get through the pandemic! ❤
I'm a medical student in the US, and have been following you since 2020! I'm pretty adamant about being interested in Ob/Gyn, however every time I watch one of your videos, suddenly I find myself questioning why not internal med haha. Amazing content and extremely well put together content!
Love your videos! I also really appreciate your approach to preventative health, and while we don't get to see your interaction with patients, it's quite apparent from how you present the cases to us that you're super invested in the patient's care and giving them the very best possible outcome. Would you ever consider an episode all about autoimmune diseases which primarily affect the digestive system (like Crohn's)? It seems like so many people struggle with undiagnosed conditions which they may perhaps have sought medical evaluation for if there was more patient education available. Thanks for your continued work at giving us super interesting, helpful and beneficial content!
Fellow Canadian from Alberta, the bear made me giggle, that is one of the most Canadian things I've heard 😂
Another Crohnie here! Thank you for covering that. Also, fingers crossed for your megacolon pt. I hope he pulled through. ❤️
@Violin MD I am a huge believer in proactive/prevention medicine, so I am happy to see the both of you promote this.😇 I laughed so hard at the end on how you both made a run for it to your car🤣. And once again, fascinating and educational patient cases, more please👍🤗
You and Mark are awesome people for heading up North to help ❤
My husband has chron’s and it’s great to see you spreading info about it! Would be really interesting if you could cover IBD/chrons in more detail - particularly stomas, as it’s a disability that so many people live with but has little public understanding!
i know you probably wint see this, but you have been such a huge inpiration for me in my life. after dealing with physical illness and menta health, im finisbing grade 12 and getting back i to RCM lessons this monday !! i remember your first video still, and im so glad to have gotten to see you come this far !!!! much love, as always
So wonderful to see you both again. Safe travels and thanks for doing what you are doing so that people can get the care they need.
I am glad they have doctors like you in Canada. Makes me feel more happy as a Nurse to work with knowledgable clinicians who care.
My sisters story might interest you. She got C Dif after a round of antibiotics for some gum surgery. She had four hospital admissions two of which she was touch and go as to whether she would live. After the third admission, they put her on a list for a fecal transplant. She lives in New Mexico, and that that time they were doing it at the University of New Mexico. when she was admitted the fourth time they immediately did the fecal transplant. It was an absolute miracle procedure. Within a day she was up and around still weak and tired, but definitely on the mend. It’s been three years and she has been doing great. . Love your videos.
I spoke to a doctor about that about 15-20 years ago. My friend was in a massive car accident, lost two legs, one above and one below-knee amputation, and then he contracted C.diff. The docs wanted to remove his colon, and I refused. I just kept feeding him probiotics and then brought them information about fecal transplant, which was not common then. He kept his intestines and didn't need the transplant seeing as I'd started feeding him probiotics daily. So it ended well, and the doc saved my research.
You two are so cute and inspirational together! I started watching you when I started my uni and I’ve just graduated last year. Thank you for your very interesting, important and intriguing content.
You and your husband are both great doctors. I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for what you do!
I am a first year medical student and I've been watching your videos for years praying I'd be in your shoes one day practicing medicine. Thank you for inspiring me to keep chasing my dreams 🥰
Thank you for making such entertaining and informative videos. I´m a nursing student and I watch your videos in my study break!
I've been an RN for 25 years and love watching her videos! She is one of a kind Wonderful.
Its a good day when my favorite doctor uploads!
As a critical care nurse with Crohn’s and history of c diff that has required fecal transplant, when you started saying about the new onset distension, pain and his bp getting soft and not responding to boluses, I said to myself “this dude just punched his ticket to the OR and/or ICU”….sure enough when you pulled up that X-ray…..
And I was dx’d with Crohn’s the same way as your pt in the ED. I was 15 years old. Came in to the ER with my mom for severe abdominal pain. They thought appendicitis…surgeon took me to the OR and found a foot of necrotic bowel….surprise!
Coming in through the ED is actually a really common first presentation and step towards an IBD diagnosis. Thanks for touching on it!
I appreciate the two of you so much! I always learn so much from watching your channel's videos! You guys also make me laugh and cheer me up on bad days. That part at the end was hilarious! 😂
Thank you for making our days brighter ❤
Hey! Hi! I've watched tons of your videos, here in the US they do not look into things like you do! Your an incredible physician!! And I do know because I've worked in healthcare all my life. ❤
I always love your videos! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you Mark for joining Siobhan again. I truly do love seeing the both of you working together.
Missed your videos! Thank you for taking the time to vlog! 😊
I love your videos.
You and Mark are awesome together ❤️
Be SAFE..Thank you for ALL you do
You are both wonderful people ❤
I've been watching you for years, you've inspired me to aspire to be a doctor when I'm older.Thank you Siohban!
I absolutely adore you & ur husband!!! I am a huge medical buff & I love to learn anything that has to do with the medical field.. ur videos give me life! I've always wanted to be a doctor or a nurse but sadly when i was 16 yrs old.. I let several teachers convince me that I could never work in the medical field because I'm Deaf..I know now that it was a mistake.. that was over 30 yrs ago...but anyways I get my void kind of filled in because of ur amazing videos so thank you for being an amazing doctor & teacher!!! I look forward to new videos!keep up the amazing work ya'll do!!! We may not know each other but I have to say I am so proud of you...I've followed u since u started ur residency & watched u grow over the years into a phenomenal doctor!!! Amazing!
I just can't get enough of your videos
Such a free flowing energy!
Wonderful video again. I would so love to have you as my doctor! I am glad you're traveling and a lot of people get the benefit of being treated by you!
I now have been diagnosed with two chronic auto immune diseases - both needed each 7 years to be diagnosed. If one doctor had listened to all my (minor, but life quality reducing) symptoms, they might have figured it out years earlier and spared me a lot of crappy days. One doctor (dermatologist) literally said: I only deal with one symptom per sitting. Please make an appointment for each of the other symptoms.
It was only figured out, when I couldn't get pregnant. It was the first thing they checked for... and when i learned that a lot of women have that, i was aghast that no doctor before had checked for it. Only when reproduction didn't work as intended... felt like an uterus on legs
You do you, but I really enjoyed getting a simple audio splitter so that we could both listen with two earpieces ❤ it's tiny and cheap 🎉
I've only been watching you for a short while. I didn't realize you were doctors in Ontario. I only live a couple hours East of toronto. I'm curious to where in northern Ontario you are. Also thank you for all the work you do. With our shortages in the health care field I know the work you do and your willingness to go up north is so appreciated by many even if I don't know exactly where you are. Also it's funny that this video you had 2 conditions the mega colon and crohn's because my partner actually suffers from both of them and one of our local hospitals actually knows him so well that when he shows up the nurses rush out to get him into a bed right away as soon as they see his chart pop up.
Wonderful episode. I love seeing you both so happy together ❤️
Oh, I would have to sort out that twisted telephone receiver cord 😂
I love your show! It just popped up on my feed and I’m glad I decided to watch your videos. This is the first time in my life that I wish I was (was, we’re?🤔) a doctor.
I produce commercials, but knowing that you’re a doctor and you play violin exquisitely, makes me reevaluate some big life choices. 😊
Seriously, what you, your fellow doctors, nurses and staff do, is amazing.
Thank you for what you do.
Thanks Rubin - that’s so kind of you!
@@ViolinMD😮
I'm from Northern BC. We've had a doctor shortage since the 1990s! Thank you both of you for helping out up north. It's truly appreciated
I love audible couldn't imagine not having it
I am a nurse - I really hope that I can leave this job behind. I hate it. It's becoming more and more senseless.
I'm not made for a system that really only cares about money.
Symptom management and pharmaceutical distribution is what we do.
I don't get why anybody would wsnt to contribute to this madness.
I feel your pain. Been doing the nurse thing for 25 years and really struggled for a while with the system. At the end of the day, though, there are sick people who really need the help of a nurse and good health care team. As far as only caring about $$, that's a policital issue. Support candidates that want healthcare for all. Not a panacea, but it's a good start.
It sure is Shameful the way medicine is done. Thanks you two for serving as nurses!
As a patient, I appreciate all the nurses that have worked with me. But I understand wanting to be done. I survived cardiac arrest, and it's hard getting into the physical and mental place to go back to work. I hear that people don't want to work at schools anymore either. People are making everything so political or so focused on money, no one wants to do it anymore. Civilization is just too much work. Maybe the politicians and Karens of the world will take up the slack and run IVs and drive school buses, but somehow I doubt it.
100%
I love your day in the life videos!
Violin MD is my top 1 best medical channel. Very informative, detailed from start to finished. Best educational medical channel. Keep up the good work. ❤
Absolutely love your channel, following for years.
Another great video! ❤️
very happy I've discovered your content -so interesting!
Yeah! Love all your videos but especially these ones. Thank you 😊
both of you are so great Doctors.
"I DON'T EVEN WANT HER TO SNEEZE" that was from the heart 😂
Hey what's up Siobhan and Mark! Thanks for another awesome and educating video! I think it's so cool that you two get to work together. I bet it makes it less and less like work...Even though I know you absolutely love what you do! Well again thanks, be well, be safe and Cheers!!
Was a nice surprise seeing on Dr. Mike's channel recently! Hope you and yours are well! :)
I clicked so fast! I have Crohn’s disease so was happy to see you covering it!
I love this informative vlogs as a junior medical doctor! It's like revision!
Gosh i love you so much… keep up the great work
I am in no way related to medicine, I work in IT but I really appreciate these videos and the insights you give us. I can see how it can resemble working in IT in the sense that you get tasks, sometimes easy other times more urgent and then you really have to act fast and collaborate. But still, while in IT we work on programs or devices that can break and can be replaced, you guys are champs because you are actually diagnosing and working on real living human beings. Really respect your work, especially the way you and your husband do your job with such passion and love. I am realistic and I know that ofter things are not so pretty but this is life and we are all experiencing it but really really proud of you for the work you do and the joy you radiate while handling real serios and most of the times life threatening situations for the patients. God bless!
I like the way you present patients in your videos.
wow got here early today! Can't wait to find out all about it!
1M subscribers soon 🎉🎉

Love your posts ❤❤❤
This is almost a movie. Canadian ER! Love it! Thank you! ❤
Hello to you both.i always enjoy watching all your videos.they are so great.they are very educational.we can learn alot about our health from all your videos.
I had a C Diff infection a few years back that I ended up hospitalized with. Had too many antibiotics from repeat strep infections. Thankfully I got my tonsils out! But I was told that my whole GI tract was SO inflamed, all the way into my appendix. Scary to see what could have happened had I not trusted my gut and went into the doctor, my boss at the time was trying to convince me I was just not drinking enough water!
lol, your boss has no right to say such stupid stuff. It is a known fact that the primary cause of C. diff causing illness is the excessive use of antibiotics. That's why everyone should be very careful when taking this double-edged sword medication. In fact, I'd recommend not to take it unless directed by a physician and careful assessment on when to stop taking it, or better yet under direct physician care. But, I can see the benefit of using it if you have no access to a physician and need it. But, get educated on the risks and what it may lead to consuming it repetitively over long periods. I think the probable cause of repeat strep was probably because of the wrong use of the dosage of the antibiotics or for the wrong periods of time. I am a premed student, but we are taught this. Antibiotics are the leading cause of both good and harm in my opinion especially when misused. In your case, I think it was misused unless the physician you consulted wasn't paying attention than it would be their fault for directing the wrong use/way of use. Please be careful. Hope you got better
I have been on a super debilitating recovery from c diff for a long while now! I luckily was not hospitalized for my case but could have been! Found it just in time. Starting a diet that should help with all the inflammation that it is causing. Diets are not my cup of tea though.
@macyjorgensen5078 diets are the literal worst! Thankfully the Vanco cleared mine right up... the downside is now we're more likely for repeat infections. I actually did get one 5 years after my original one... now I'm always paranoid anytime I have loose stools. 🙃
BEST channel on YT hands down!
Love you & mark sharing doctor journal about the patient
Yes, more, more more. I love your videos.
another fellow crohny here & a emergency rn! currently in hospital in a bad flare and can’t sleep, absolutely love your content and education
Whoa! What an exciting vlog. Very eventful for sure 😃 great job Dr. .
Since you're both passionate about working in smaller northern communities, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on NOSM making it a mandatory part of the curriculum to work in those communities. Do you think more med schools should incorporate that into their programs?
Love the vids. Been watching over 5 years. Keep it up 👏👏😊
Waiting for you video. God bless you
Thank you for your help and service, thank you for helping people
Both of you are sooo GREAT. Love your content, Your charisma, your knowledge your interest but especially your passions. 🌼 Do you do consulting at all? I watch your show is not only because they're wonderful, but because I'm desperately trying to learn and possibly seek answers for myself.. My body and soul is exhausted. If not though. Know how very much your kind hearts and hard work makes such a big difference. I wish such help was available here. Thank you for all that you do. 🌹🙏
your voice is so soothing
I've been watching for years and you are so amazing and just wanted you to know
Untangle that phone cord! Lol

Hello! Nice to see a new video ... cheers!
I want a vote from all of Violin MD fans. Who would like a collaboration between Dr Mike and Siobhan? Vote by liking my comments.😂
Yup that’s what I’m saying
Dr. Mike isn't a good person. I would never want them to meet.
@@emilyau8023 How so?
Definitely yes
Yes
Hey! I’m a 2nd yr college student studying health and social care L2 and your videos help me learn so much more! Thank you for the amazing content keep it up
Speaking about colons, a friend of my daughter's has had colon issues forever with no diagnosis. Hes originally from the UK, was seen there, was seen in Germany, was seen by army medics and still nothing. It isnt rare for him to have blood in his stools or to cough up blood. He has now learned to live with it, sadly, as no doc has figured it out and tests keep coming back showing no abnormality. He's now working in Alberta, and we'll see if Canadian doctors can eventually figure it out.
The best way to end an already eventful day is of course to get a bear alert.
Yahoo, new video! :D Makes my day :D
Love these videos. Wish it was longer🤗🤗🤗
Oh and your running shoes colour is on point love it
Definitely the most eventful day in life video on this (amazing) channel haha
