Let me just make a comment before I get bullied in the comments again hehe If you enjoyed the movie, then awesome! I'm glad you did :) When I watched Captain Marvel, I went in knowing people hated this movie, but I ended up thinking it was a great movie and really enjoyed it which I got thumbs down/disliked for! I don't try to let others opinion influence mine. Me disliking this movie isn't to be with the popular opinion, I genuinely just thought it was right down the middle ok LOL. Hope you guys understand it's not to offend anyone nor side with anyone! My opinion sucks anyway 😎
Disliking the video for a difference of opinion is immature. It's a reaction video and she gave her honest reactions. We came to SEE how she felt about it, not to judge her for how she felt. I'd give the movie maybe a 5/10 but I loved her reactions.
I personally enjoyed Eternals on my second watch when it dropped on Disney Plus more than I did when I saw it in theaters. Watching reactors checking out this film and giving their opinions actually has me enjoy it more. You can ask Mary Cherry, Natalie Gold, Sebscreen, Alex Hefner, Movies with Mary, Addie Counts, and The Normies among others. They all gave their pros and cons. Generally speaking, they would agree that it wasn’t terrible but still had room to improve.
It is a hard movie to like. It’s OK, but was not what I personally expected. Rumor has it some characters may return in future MCU projects. But who knows if that will happen.
I actually liked this one better than most people, but given the sheer number of new characters and how complex the backstory was, I think it might've worked better as a series on Disney+
@@oaf-77 To be clear, that wasn't a Disney+ show and was dealing with the last vestiges of infighting between Feige and Perlmutter if I'm not mistaken. My point being I don't feel like it's a fair comparison.
@@VKunia Movies with Mary would agree with you on that. I guess this further proves that we need a platform like Disney Plus to properly tell these stories.
Sersi was chosen by Ajak, because she’s the one who immersed herself in the culture the most. She loves humanity, more than the rest of them. Her connection to the people is why Ajak let her be the successor. Edit: the voice in the last Credit Scene belongs to Blade
Simply put: It would’ve been a lot better as a tv show. There were too many characters to introduce Although, the action sequences were fantastic! Makkari vs Ikaris is the best live-action speedster fight sequence we’ve ever gotten
I compare it to Guardians. James Gunn was able to be economical in a brisk two hour run time to introduce and properly develop seven characters just enough without trying to do too much at once and keeping the story tight and entertaining. Just the thought of these writers and director dragging out the first story across 10 hours makes me tired. Maybe a different creative team would make a show entertaining and well-paced, but a better creative team would absolutely make a better movie.
Or even as a trilogy. 1sr film: them arriving on earth, dealing with the... I can't even remember what they're called. Devious? Sequel: them through the ages 3rd film: modern day and revelation that are actually robo-pawns working towards the destruction of the planet. The whole of phase 4 sucked be ause of the complete lack of backstory for any of the new characters. They arrived as fully fledged heroes meaning any back story had to come about via fucking flashback scenes and exposition 🙄
I had a really good, hard laugh when you said that Sersi's "trope is literally Bella from Twilight" XD As others commenters have already said, this should have been a TV series. It is too much rushed for a story that have such high stakes as Earth's destruction, too many characters to introduce, and too little time to create an emotional connection with them. That sword at the end of the movie is the Ebony Blade, foreshadowing the upcoming of a very obscure Marvel character. And the off-screen voice is from Mahershala Ali, who will be playing Blade in the MCU. I highly recommend watching the original Blade movies: Blade 1 is literally the first Marvel movie made after Marvel Comics sold the movie rights for their characters in the late 90s so they wouldn't go bankrupt, and it was successful enough to prove that well-made movies about comics characters could work. Then came X-Men and the first Toby Maguire's Spider-Man, and the rest is History.
I think your take is very good and insightful. There was SOO much information this movie had to introduce, there's almost no way they could do it in even a 3 hour film. In the end, it's got stunning visuals and music, great characters (RIP Gilgamesh) nice humor and a huge wellspring of new lore to play with. I love this movie and I'm glad you didn't skip it! Great channel, keep up the nice work!
The idea seemed better than how it ultimately landed. For me, the best way I can articulate my issue with it is that it's an ensemble cast that the film and story didn't put enough into selling their entire energy and chemistry as a group. And, since the plot is about disillusionment, with their own group's purpose, as well as conflict, discontent, and infighting, it works additionally against identifying with and relating to them. I felt like I wanted to like the characters for the other roles I've seen the actors play before than for these characters played here, where it felt like so many of them were wasted. I agree with the other comments that a series would've given us more time for character development (and empathy).
Gemma Chan previously portrayed Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel 2019. Now she's back as Sersi, and she got to keep her accent this time. Kumail Nanjiani had to go on a strict Marvel diet. However in early 2020 while being interviewed, Jimmy Kimmel gave Kumail a bunch of pizza and cake to munch on for the first time in a while. Then early last year, Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) filled in for Kelly Clarkson in her talk show and also got to interview Kumail. He revealed that his niece was so happy to see her uncle on screen as Kingo. She even enjoyed dancing along to the Bollywood dance number. Also, Bryan Tyree Henry revealed in a behind-the-scenes interview that he was crying with excitement when he got to put on his costume for Phastos for the first time. A little reminder: this is his second Marvel role. His first was lending his voice as Miles Morales’ father Jefferson Davis in Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. @33:30 That's the Ebony Blade that Sprite mentioned to Thena. Dane is about to become the next Black Knight. And that guy who spoke to him in the end was Eric Brooks better known as Blade. He’s a vampire hunter who so happens to be half-human half-vampire. He's being portrayed by Mahershala Ali, and he'll have his own film as part of Phase Five.
I enjoyed this movie. Seeing Arishem the Judge on the big screen was fantastic. I loved the nod Stanley’s Kubrick’s 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey in this movie.
@@jakebaca264 The Celestials in Eternals are inspired by Earth X, which has a separate continuity from the main comics. In Earth X, Celestials reproduce using planets. To protect these planets, the Celestials modify their population to allow superpowers and force the Watchers to watch over them. Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, devours the Celestial embryos inside the worlds to prevent their overpopulation. In the comics, the Celestials, also known as Space Gods, originated from the original universe and were responsible for creating the Multiverse. As enigmatic genetic engineers, the Celestials created the Deviants, Eternals, and Mutant X-Gene. Earth, in particular, has such a high tendency for the super-powered thanks to a dying Celestial who landed on Earth four billion years ago.
@@jakebaca264 The Living Tribunal is stronger than Arishem The Judge. In the comics, the Living Tribunal is a vastly powerful humanoid cosmic entity that serves the One Above All. It acts as a cosmic judge and safeguards the Multiverse from an imbalance of mystical forces.
This is number 7 in my MCU ranking. I absolutely adore the movie. I really like the character, I love the action, the locations, the worldbuilding/lore and the story. The moral dilemma makes the movie very interesting to me. I totally get why some didn't like it. (Tough I think some people overreacted a bit, but whatever) And maybe it would have been better as a TV show, but that is not feasable from a production standpoint. The movie already cost 200 million+. Most of the cast is very expensive(Angeline Jolie!!!) and all the practical sets and locations. That would have made it one of the most expensive TV shows of all time, which is just not realistic.
A 10 episode series would hace been perfect. You can minimise costs by not having all the actors in every episode. Have all of them in the first 2. Then an episode for each pair and the individual then all together for the last couple of episodes
This one was actually a little different than the same thing marvel does with every single one of their movies, so i honestly thought it was a breath of fresh air. i liked it. honestly one of my favorite mcu movies.
How exactly are they well directed? It's standard marvel movie "we're gonna cut 20 times during this fight sequence so you can barely tell what's going on" fare. This is clearly spoken by someone who has never taken a film class.
@@smashbrandiscootch719 ummm that's his opinion. Do all of us really have to take a film class to know if the action sequences is good? No. You sound like a smartass.
@@smashbrandiscootch719this is clearly spoken by someone who likes to copy people's buzzwords and phrases. I rewatched every avengers movie this week and theres a stark difference between how Eternals does action. Much better sense of the environment, the actions were clear and easy to follow, we had some lovely sweeping shots during action scenes that were allowed to breathe. You trippin
@@smashbrandiscootch719eternals is really easy to follow in fight scenes so if you're struggling maybe you should quit film school or take more classes cause this is a you problem. Call the movie slow, sure but the action is literally one of it's highlights
You at the begining say your are easy to please, but you always search for the little things in the movie, i did not think you are easy to please, my sweet V.
This is a complete retcon of the Eternals and Celestials. In fact, it is a stolen idea from the show Transformers Prime and the last Michael Bey Transformers. In which Unicron is incubating as the core of the Earth, after his defeat. Millions of years before the formation of Earth. He begins his rebirth and will destroy our planet if not defeated before emergence.
When I watched this movie, the first thing I thought was that they needed to have a series for the eternals before the movie actually came out. They could have focused on the past, developing characters, and the relationships. It would also be a good way to show how deviants are supposed to be, before they started to evolve. Then when this movie came out, it could have been solely in the present. No flashbacks. It could have focused on the evolved deviants and the emergence in a more fleshed out way.
This movie's biggest flaw is that it wasn't a Disney+ show. There's just way too many characters to introduce and get invested in. If you asked a hundred people right after watching the movie who the main character was... you'd get a dozen different responses. That's a huge problem if you can't narrow down the basic main character for audiences to distill easily. Guardians is a team-up through and through, but Peter Quill is unquestionably the audience surrogate. It's through HIS journey that we get to experience the other guardians as a whole. I just wish if Chloe Zhao had directed a marvel movie with a cosmic flavor, it'd had been Silver Surfer. Reclusive loner with a major existential crisis? Does that not sound like Chloe Zhao's specialty when you factor in her filmography? Justin Chang of the LA Times put it best: "You walk out in the depressing realization that you’ve just seen one of the more interesting movies Marvel will ever make, and hopefully the least interesting one Chloé Zhao will ever make"
I understand and agree with your points but I would also argue that the film does make it clear who the audience surrogate is...SERSI. The rest serve exactly how the rest of the Guardians served Quill, as supporting characters that play vital roles in the development of audience surrogate. Sersi was the one that out of all the Eternals sympathized and valued the existence of humans early on in their mission, making her more compassionate to the protection of humans, which is arguably a very human trait to possess. I think a majority of viewers just fall into the trap of "oh no, too many characters too many names for me to remember. I'm lost oh well." They don't take the time and put in the energy/focus to actually take in the characters as they are presented in the film but just give up when it gets slightly extended with depth. The lore and story laid out is not the most complicated to understand in terms of writing, so I still bewilders me how many people say its confusing. But yes, I do agree with you on the basis that this would've worked so much better as a Disney+ series as it would've given time for each character to be developed and the lore to be fully and clearly explained. I would've made it so that each episode focuses on one Eternal where each episode connects to the next until it builds up to the climax for the penultimate and finale episodes.
I slept off midway through this movie. On a Saturday afternoon. Woke up, rewound to where I nodded off, and concluded I didn't miss much. Movie had potential but just didn't make a lot of sense.
Next... Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
@@Edge439 Doctor Strange as well. A rushed film, that is a bit of a mess, and rushes through and ends an arc that needed at least 2-3 movies to be truly good. It's an OK film, but very meh overall. Ant man has its problems as well that make it at least a little disappointing.
if you really think about it, 85% of marvel movies are mid, what you gotta appreciate about them is how all of the mid becomes top tier cinema when you put a bunch of them together on the screen, that's what happened with phase 1 and 2 and 3, most movies were somewhat enjoyable, some good, some mid, and then we got avengers, a recollection of everything that happened before, now stuff made sense, charcters you saw 5 movies ago where doing amazing stuff, that's what makes marvel good imo. So with that being said, I'm very excited to see more of eternals!
I really liked this movie despite the negative reviews. I also like mythology a lot, so this movie gave something I was really looking for. Also, some elements were (kind of) borrowed from my all-time favorite comic so it worked for me.
The only plus is that at the end where you heard the voice of a mysterious man, that is the voice of the actor who is now playing Blade and it looks like it's leading up to Midnight Suns
I actually really enjoy this movie and have re-watched it numerous times. I do agree with the thinking that it probably would have worked better as a multi-part series with the number of characters they had to work with, but overall I still think they made a good movie! No hate to anyone who thinks differently though!
I felt sorry for Sprite as well, but it was a good plot point to make her human in case they make a sequel...the actor who played her will be considerably older.
In the comics, Celestial beings experimented on living creatures throughout the galaxies/universes to upgrade the species. The Kree were among them. As the Kree became advanced beings, they started doing experiments of their own. The Celestials made super powered human beings called Eternals, the real ones. It seems the MCU direction is going the A.I. droid route instead. So there were other beings made which didn't look as humanoid as the super powered Eternal creations. They looked alien. They are called Deviants. Thanos is a Deviant but he came from 2 Eternals. This movie didn't mention that so maybe that's changed too. Over millions of years later, the super powers became dormit in the descendants of those beings....hence the "X gene" (coined by Charles Xavier of Xmen) needing exposure to something radioactive and/or traumatic enough to shock their mutant abilities awake. Examples: Bruce and his cousin would be a lineage of a Deviant because they change into a different species. Gamma Ray space radiation awakened their abilities. Steve Rogers shot up with a mystery formula that no one knows where Erskine made his out of, and he went into a radiation gamma ray chamber built by Howard Stark. Steve's body could adapt and manifest abilities because of him having the X gene. Tony Stark used the Infinity Stones (which are space radiation magical stones) and died. He was not a descendant. Monica Rambeau went through the radiation force field put up by Wanda. Woo said people couldn't get in. He could feel that he couldn't get in. Monica saw the force field before she ever got sucked in, so that tells us her ability was weak but present, just like Wanda's. It acknowledged her x gene and so she was allowed in. Her getting exposed so many times unleashed her power full on...more on that in The Marvels movie. My theory is: that she had the dormit gene, but her mother did not. Perhaps Monica and Maria were blasted by radiation weaponry from maybe Carol's enemies while looking for her. Monica survived unharmed, but her mom got stage 4 cancer from it. Since the origin of the Eternals were changed in this movie, I'm hoping that the writers come up with a good story arc that makes sense because they still need to tie in all the mutants into the main story arc of phase 5...and they've already spoken about mutants starting with the Ms. Marvel show. One thing about Ikiris that I believe. I don't think he had control over his programming. Idk if you've ever watched WESTWORLD (please do if you haven't), but Cersei would be his "cornerstone" that he was programmed to protect. I think at the end of the movie when he was faced with the dilemma to kill her, was the first time he advanced passed his programming and became sentient for the first time. He made a choice on his own and decided to not hurt her and destroy himself instead because of the shame. Now, they could bring him back, if he died, because he is a machine and they've been brought back before...but I hope he's on the right side next time, and can unleash their full memories so they know how to help the Avengers later down the line.
Yeah. I've tried to watch it a couple of times. It doesn't reach an "I care about this" point before I just don't keep going. You know... I'm going to throw it in again before watching your reaction. See what happens. I'll be back! :)
The fact I watched this movie 4 times in 5 days on Disney+ while everyone hates it has me wondering a multitude of contradictory things and not knowing which is right.
Too many characters introduced at one that meant I didnt really care about them when they died. A Disney+ series introducing the characters over different time periods and seeing how the different Eternals interact with each other would have made thing more impactful when some died
Ikaris is a fictional character in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He first appeared in The Eternals #1 (July 1976) and was created by Jack Kirby. Homelander First appearance Comics: The Boys #3 (2006).
I personally loved this film, definitely one of my favs. But I get why many don’t, its a lot of “lore” and unfamiliarity, movie might be meant for the oddballs out there 😅
I always had a hard time understanding why people don't like this movie but maybe that's part of it? I mean... I wasn't very familiar with the comic books going in to this (knew a little bit and knew about the Celestials)... but... I have an encyclopedic knowledge of history... recognized Babylon immediately, recognized Tenochitlan immediately and knew what was going on.. recognized Hiroshima immediately... knew every mythological character that the Eternals were supposed to be based on or have inspired without needing to be told. For me if there was a bunch of exposition dumped on us about all of this stuff I would have found it boring and pedantic. But maybe for other audience members who didn't have the same amount of foreknowledge.. the plot could have seemed confusing, hard to follow, or overbusy. That makes some sense. Like when I figured out the main reason so many people hated Batman vs. Superman was that it was largely ubernerds with little capacity to understand human emotion and who didn't get why Batman hearing his mother's name, and finding out that the alien he had dehumanized in his mind and was in the middle of murdering was a person with a mother, would have affected him the way it did... they needed the extended cut to explain motivations and character developments and plot points that I had already figured out watching the original theatrical cut and didn't need explained to me...
I love that canonically after this film is done, earth 616 has toes and fingers and little head poking out of the top. I would want to live on the toes of the world
Honestly, I think this is one of those movies that's better on the second viewing. Mainly because it's so different than any of the other MCU movies before it the whole vibe of the move isn't what you'd expect from an MCU film. Once you know what type of movie to expect it's a better watch. I wasn't a fan of it on the first viewing but liked it better the second time.
This movie does give me one of the best speedster fight scenes I've ever seen so I hold it up alongside really expanding on the lore of the world and cosmic beings... it just has too many characters to set up and for us to try to care about. Had they trimmed it down in characters it would've been solid. A slow burn even so, which is Zhao style.
The problem was that they tried to cram way too much story into one movie and should have expanded it to at least a ten episode series to be able to fit the stories of all the characters and their histories in
Honestly I think that's a worse idea. People tend to default to it should have been a movie or should have been a TV series when they don't like the pacing of something. Cutting the Kro story for another movie and using the time to flesh out the characters woulda been fine. Most MCU shows average around 4 hours so you're only getting an extra 2 hours to work with and while the cut was better 4 hours isnt what made ZSJL better that the Whedon JL. That movie could also be cut down to a < 3 hour film and still be better
Exactly, I enjoyed the movie, but my only complaint was they should have the first 40% of the movie set in the past, with the unknowing audience thinking the entire movie took place in the past, but to have the jump to Present Day around the middle of the movie. It's difficult to relate and understand to lesser known characters, especially of this size, with constant flashbacks.
@@VKuniadruig wants to interfere with humans and control them because ithink with his power he can feel pain of all those victims imagine feeling it again and again for almost 2000 years the wars the massacres
So Kit Harington's Character will be come the Black Knight whose power comes from a cursed sword passed down through his family. The voice you hear at the end of the credits scene asking him if he's ready is Blade.
I really enjoyed this movie myself, mainly due to all the imagination fuel it provided, and the future possibilities it left open at the end. The revelation of their true mission felt like a shock on the level of the first Matrix movie about reality. On the other hand, it doesn't seem they're in a rush to follow up on those possibilities anytime soon. But on the bright side, it's rumored that the dead celestial will be at the center of Captain America: New World Order, as this new metal called Adamantium is discovered in its body.
It’s underwhelming but I can respect Marvel/ Kevin Feige for at least trying something slightly different. Moving forward I say Marvel should take the parts of this that did work and try using them again. The closing scene of Erishem overlooking Earth and you see how nightmarishly huge the Celestials are is still fantastic. I hope Marvel can replicate that feeling of dread and scale when they introduce Galactus to the MCU
This movie is better the second watch. Not immediately, let it sit on the back burner for a couple months and come back to it, casually. It isn’t forgiven for its inability to hit on the first watch, but what it could have been shines through when you have a bit more context.
THANK YOU So many reactors pretend to love every fucking movie out of fear of upset the fanbase But if every film is great...then none are and it just undermines any praise you give for films that are actually good
it's a great MCU film. No need to be ashamed of acknowledging that. Honestly for me this is one of the better films of Phase 4... right behind No Way Home and leagues better than Love and Thunder or Black Widow. The visuals alone were enough to put it up there but the story, characters, script, acting, direction were all fine or good.
I tried to like it too, V. There's a good story in there somewhere, but my gosh is it clunky. Probably should have been a D+ series. I just couldn't care about all of these characters that I got to see for three seconds each.
LOL, Vee, Ikaris and Dane were played by the same guys who played Robb Stark and Jon Snow in Game of Thrones :P Also, Dane Whitman's family history is that he is the heir to the title of the Black Knight, who wields the Ebony Blade, a dark counterpart to Excalibur that curses it's wielder to eventually become more crazed with a need for violence and bloodshed over time.
This is actually one of my favorite MCU movies. I know I'm in a minority on that one. I love the cinematography. I love the way it depicts a speedster. I like the brutality in some of the fight scenes. There's one moment that reminds me of the bear attack in the Revenant, which is not something I expected to be thinking about in an MCU movie. I love the fight of the heroes vs Ikaris. There is a _lot_ that I like about this movie. My issues are that it's too heavily edited: some scenes are rushed and don't have room to breathe; and Sprite's turn feels completely unearned when it happens. Sprite needed more development. All that said, it's the only post-Endgame MCU movie that I saw multiple times in the theater. I saw it three times. One reason I like it so much is that it takes risks. Many MCU movies play it safe, so when one comes along that takes risks, even if they're not completely successful, I'm going to appreciate it for trying more than I do one that's formulaic.
Ya. This script wasn't ready to film. One of the down sides of having a massive slate of movies/tv shows is it's VERY difficult to halt production on something. But, this is possibly the only MCU movie that I feel just doesn't work. There are some movies I don't like, but that's just taste. This one... I feel like it actually doesn't work. And I wasn't prepared for an MCU film to do that.
I liked the movie, is it one of the greatest Marvel movies, no, is it interesting and fresh? Yes! It is different? Yes! Could it have been better? Yes! But it was a decend movie and it had some stunning visuals and effects.
i have a really weird time when i see people talking about this movie, i'm not gonna pretend this is a good marvel movie but i don't see nothing wrong with either. Kind like the first thor movie? it's okay? i expands the world and i'm waiting to see what they will do with it.
I didn't like this movie at first but now I love it. Same thing happened with Shang-Chi. It's because we compare them to older marvel movies and the marvel actors we have loved for years and these are all new characters and new movie plots. Give it some time to like it.
Well, you had the exact same reaction as I did. Let me give this a chance followed by this is my least favourite movie of the entire MCU franchise. For me this movie is just terrible, for all the reasons you mentioned and so much more. But, that’s my opinion and I’m glad others can enjoy it. I just believe phase 4 completely misses the mark of what makes the MCU good.
I'm sure that movies like these are not as popular because it doesn't follow the normal structure, like normal guy, gets powers, learns a lesson, saves the world. It's also very on the side of Sci-fi and abstract in some ways. I like all of these but I think I liked this one less because I didn't know much about the caracters beforehand, just about Celestials and more or less what they are. I do look foward to other less mainstream stories and how it will connect to the big plans they have for the MCU.
More than the story, this started my interest in how celestials will interact with avengers in future MCU movies beyond 2 second appearances. Yet to see antman 2 but they gotta be bothered by Kang or some megavillain eventually, right?
I loved it and this is no way a dis the majority that don't, but I feel like to get the most out of it you need to like thinking about movies, not just experiencing them. These characters are fully developed by the time we see them, so they don't go through arcs. They are programed after all to not change. The conflict is heady and philosophical. The characters are pieces, the conflict is the board, and we get to see the game being played. It tickles the mind instead of warming the heart. If you don't like it that doesn't mean you're stupid, just that you and I are different.
Your eyeroll thumbnail.. just perfect for this movie!! LOL I really think Eternals would have worked better as a series, with 10-12 episodes to really get into everyone's pasts and their complicated history. But for a single 2.5 hour movie, it was just too much...
Welp it’s my fav MCU movie (maybe because they actually filmed on locations outside of green screen rooms), so I can tell this reaction isn’t for me from the thumbnail alone 🤷🏻♂️ Glad there’s still some Marvel content that’s bringing you joy though!
Thanks for the honest reaction. I wasn't a fan of this movie either. It's gorgeous but so...hollow? It's the lowest rated MCU movie and I gotta say, I agree. It's still not terrible, I think it's like a 6/10.
In the comics Celestials are some of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe they are basically cosmic omnipotent space gods that go around the universe to manipulate the evolution of primitive people on different planet's. In the comics the Celestials are the creators of the Deviants and people with the X-gene that would called Mutants like the X-men. When the Celestials finished their task they will leave the planet and come back millions of years later to judge how the people on the planet has progressed if the Celestials are impressed with the people then planet lives, but if the Celestials are not impressed then they will destroy the planet and try again on a different primitive planet.
_"In the comics the Celestials are the creators of the Deviants and people with the X-gene that would called Mutants like the X-men."_ Correction, they're the creators of all later stages of mankind.
This isn't a perfect movie by any means, but I still thought it was excellent. Very different from any other MCU movie in terms of how it's directed. The acting was phenomenal. And the movie gets better on rewatch, in my opinion. They probably bit off more than they could chew, trying to tell a story about such a huge group of brand new characters that spans thousands of years.
This is actually not that bad and is overhated. On the rewatch it’s better and is good world building for the mcu as a whole. And the cinematography was great.
The one actor in this movie was in another movie with Harry Styles called Dunkirk also Kit Harington and Richard Madden were in game of thrones (if you haven't watched it) before enterals
It's also a shame because in the comics Kro the Deviant is pretty cool. He's like a Deviant with near-Eternal powers and he and Thena have been a secret couple for ages. I think I would have liked this movie a lot better if after Kro killed Gilgamesh it began to protect Thena and then just became a second Gilgamesh and "repaired" both dying Eternals and recently dead Deviants to help stop Ikaris.
when I first watched this movie, I thought it was meh, then I rewatched it months later then I realized how badass the action sequences were, and the amazing visuals and soundtrack. Now its one of my top MCU films.
Okay, here's my take on the Eternals. the rest of the MCU is based on the works of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, with the exception of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange (Who were created by Stan Lee & Steve Ditko). The Eternals however had nothing to do with Stan Lee, they were created by Jack Kirby as a solo project. From what I understand the Eternals were created after a rift formed between Stan & Jack. Jack Kirby had never intended for the Eternals to be a part of the Marvel Universe, they were originally set up in their own separate universe. Until one editor decided that he wanted the Eternals shoe-horned into the Marvel Universe. Since then the Eternals have always been around, but it never ever felt like they really belonged. Cut to the MCU: The Eternals still feel like they were forced into the MCU. If it wasn't for the fact that Thanos was an Eternal, I doubt this movie would even have been made. They had to explain Thanos somehow. They also had to let us know that somewhere out there the Celestials have a back up of Thanos, and they can bring him back any time.
I enjoyed it, it wasn't that bad. The characters have cool powers that look cool, the premise and the lore is incredible, the cinematography is fantastic when they're not in the forest that's filtered to be unnaturally dark and you can't fucking see anything, and the cast is great. But they just didn't spend enough time to properly develop the characters the way Guardians did, with the worst offender being Sersi, the main character. She's even more of an empty blank slate than Captain Marvel, and that character at least got to have some quips and some fun scenes with Nick Fury. Sersi just has script outline energy, where she wasn't given anything but her basic character descriptors, while every other character has pathos to them. I really hope whenever they decide to bring her back that they rectify this and make her have an actual personality.
Let me just make a comment before I get bullied in the comments again hehe
If you enjoyed the movie, then awesome!
Imagine having to explain yourself for disliking a movie. If you dislike it that's okay, you're allowed to have an opinion ya know!
How dare you defy the Disney overlords! 😂
I actually liked this one better than most people, but given the sheer number of new characters and how complex the backstory was, I think it might've worked better as a series on Disney+
They already tried that with Inhumans
TV series definitely would have favored it to go in depth with characters and their backstories!
After watching a bunch of the deleted scenes with little moments between characters, a D+ series should have been the call.

There were too many characters to introduce
Although, the action sequences were fantastic! Makkari vs Ikaris is the best live-action speedster fight sequence we’ve ever gotten
That is what I was saying since they needed at least ten episodes for all the characters
Agreed with this. I couldn’t get interested in the characters no matter how hard I tried, it was too much.
Yeah, it was to big a of a scale for one long movie. And yep, the speedster scene was the best thing really.
Or even as a trilogy.
1sr film: them arriving on earth, dealing with the... I can't even remember what they're called. Devious?
Sequel: them through the ages
3rd film: modern day and revelation that are actually robo-pawns working towards the destruction of the planet.
The whole of phase 4 sucked be ause of the complete lack of backstory for any of the new characters. They arrived as fully fledged heroes meaning any back story had to come about via fucking flashback scenes and exposition 🙄
Makkari was the highlight of this movie for me all her action scenes were dope as fuck. Plus the actress is amazing
I had a really good, hard laugh when you said that Sersi's "trope is literally Bella from Twilight" XD
As others commenters have already said, this should have been a TV series.

I totally get why some didn't like it. (Tough I think some people overreacted a bit, but whatever)
And maybe it would have been better as a TV show, but that is not feasable from a production standpoint.
One thing I will say about this film is that the action sequences are so well directed, especially anything with Makkari, Icarus, and Thena.
How exactly are they well directed? It's standard marvel movie "we're gonna cut 20 times during this fight sequence so you can barely tell what's going on" fare. This is clearly spoken by someone who has never taken a film class.

The best part is the Celestials. They had such great design, lore, and voices. Best part for sure.
They were one of Jack Kirby's weaker ideas. He did so love to create massive celestial beings.
This is a complete retcon of the Eternals and Celestials.
In fact, it is a stolen idea from the show Transformers Prime and the last Michael Bey Transformers.
In which Unicron is incubating as the core of the Earth, after his defeat. Millions of years before the formation of Earth.

Did they do it before or after the Doctor Who 2006 Christmas Special?
"Walmart Homelander"! 🤣🤣🤣
I give you credit for your patience, V. I never made it past the one hour mark with this movie.
Justin Chang of the LA Times put it best: "You walk out in the depressing realization that you’ve just seen one of the more interesting movies Marvel will ever make, and hopefully the least interesting one Chloé Zhao will ever make"
I never thought about it like that, but yeah, maybe it would have worked a lot better as a 6-8 episode show.
I would've made it so that each episode focuses on one Eternal where each episode connects to the next until it builds up to the climax for the penultimate and finale episodes.

if you really think about it, 85% of marvel movies are mid, what you gotta appreciate about them is how all of the mid becomes top tier cinema when you put a bunch of them together on the screen, that's what happened with phase 1 and 2 and 3, most movies were somewhat enjoyable, some good, some mid, and then we got avengers, a recollection of everything that happened before, now stuff made sense, charcters you saw 5 movies ago where doing amazing stuff, that's what makes marvel good imo. So with that being said, I'm very excited to see more of eternals!
One of my favorite Marvel movie
Well, this movie is still miles better than the multiverse of badness and destroying every Spiderman in every universe.
It's a spaceship. No air in space. :)
Agreed!
Don't you think the thumbnail is just overdramatic. The movie's not that bad
I actually liked this film
One thing I would've changed is have the film take place in chronological order instead of constant flashbacks
I explained in the end what exactly made me not like it! I just believe it was kind of a messy movie and all over the place!

LOL, Vee, Ikaris and Dane were played by the same guys who played Robb Stark and Jon Snow in Game of Thrones :P
Also, Dane Whitman's family history is that he is the heir to the title of the Black Knight, who wields the Ebony Blade, a dark counterpart to Excalibur that curses it's wielder to eventually become more crazed with a need for violence and bloodshed over time.
Didn't know Vee was in Game of Thrones.
Soo fun fact, if you are in space, you dont have to be aerodynamic, cause theres no air on space
Tbh I like this film
The voice in the backround from the second post credit scene, when he picks up the sword, is actually the character blade, the vampire slasher...
I didn't like this movie at first but now I love it. Same thing happened with Shang-Chi. It's because we compare them to older marvel movies and the marvel actors we have loved for years and these are all new characters and new movie plots. Give it some time to like it.
33:39 - the mysterious man is blade.....
That thumbnail says it all. This had so much potential, but just fell short.
I agree! Potential was definitely there
V: i think I'm gonna like it :)
Narrator: She would, in fact, not like it.
🙂
I loved it and this is no way a dis the majority that don't, but I feel like to get the most out of it you need to like thinking about movies, not just experiencing them. These characters are fully developed by the time we see them, so they don't go through arcs. They are programed after all to not change. The conflict is heady and philosophical. The characters are pieces, the conflict is the board, and we get to see the game being played. It tickles the mind instead of warming the heart. If you don't like it that doesn't mean you're stupid, just that you and I are different.
I don't know why people dislike this movie. I think it gives enough information to make it a good movie
"I'mma be honest, him and Icarus look identical to me." Game of Thrones casting would love to hear that.
Your eyeroll thumbnail.. just perfect for this movie!! LOL
I really think Eternals would have worked better as a series, with 10-12 episodes to really get into everyone's pasts and their complicated history. But for a single 2.5 hour movie, it was just too much...
Maybe as something distinct from the MCU.
Celestials. Ego the Living Planet, Star Lord’s dad, is a celestial and the place “Knowhere” is a celestial’s head
Welp it’s my fav MCU movie (maybe because they actually filmed on locations outside of green screen rooms), so I can tell this reaction isn’t for me from the thumbnail alone 🤷🏻♂️
Glad there’s still some Marvel content that’s bringing you joy though!
I'll never forget going to the cinema to watch this movie with an erupting volcano while a volcano was erupting on the island next to mine 🤙
_"In the comics the Celestials are the creators of the Deviants and people with the X-gene that would called Mutants like the X-men."_
Correction, they're the creators of all later stages of mankind.
It makes sense that Dane And Ikaris look the same. They did play Robb Stark and Jon Snow (Essentially brothers) in Game of Thrones
This is actually not that bad and is overhated. On the rewatch it’s better and is good world building for the mcu as a whole. And the cinematography was great.
Sorry but this movie is absolute trash, no rewatch would fix it
The one actor in this movie was in another movie with Harry Styles called Dunkirk also Kit Harington and Richard Madden were in game of thrones (if you haven't watched it) before enterals
It's also a shame because in the comics Kro the Deviant is pretty cool. He's like a Deviant with near-Eternal powers and he and Thena have been a secret couple for ages. I think I would have liked this movie a lot better if after Kro killed Gilgamesh it began to protect Thena and then just became a second Gilgamesh and "repaired" both dying Eternals and recently dead Deviants to help stop Ikaris.
fun fact Thanos is a Deviant himself but it was never said in movies
Mixed actually
when I first watched this movie, I thought it was meh, then I rewatched it months later then I realized how badass the action sequences were, and the amazing visuals and soundtrack.
Cut to the MCU:
The Eternals still feel like they were forced into the MCU. If it wasn't for the fact that Thanos was an Eternal, I doubt this movie would even have been made. They had to explain Thanos somehow. They also had to let us know that somewhere out there the Celestials have a back up of Thanos, and they can bring him back any time.
Welcome to the hellscape that is Phase 4.
I gave your video a like but I couldn’t sit through this movie again.
"Natural selection is going to come for this child," killed me. 🤣
Trust me you ain't alone at all 😒
The most epic thumbnail eye roll EVER! 😅
That's exactly how I approached this film as well. I had pretty much the same reaction.
