the relationship that shined the most was either Druig and Makari or Thena and Gilgamesh. Allot of people dismiss the fact that Gilgamesh gave up his chance at small freedom in order to be her care taker and was the only one strong enough to defend himself from her attacks.

Literally Makkari is the best! And I did not expect to love her relationship with Druig. I don’t much care for speedsters in general cuz they bore me but Makkari was sooooo fun to watch! So dynamic!
The romance scene between Sersi and Ikarus was actually really uncomfortable for me. Maybe I didn’t like the way it was framed.
And I totally thought Ajak couldn’t be dead! I was like okay…Ajak…is coming back. Just…waaait for it. 🤣 They got us gooood. That plane CG was so bad like first Charlie’s Angel CG bad 🤣
Gil is so damn soft I fricken love how he cares for Thena. I cried several times in theater. Because of these two as well as Phastos’s loss of faith after Hiroshima and Nagasaki and seeing Druig caring so much for humanity but not being able to do anything. I feel that so deeply.

Fun fact is that “Drakkari” wasn’t planned by Chloe Zhao; she was planning to hint at Druig and SERSI having possibly had a fling in the past. It’s because Barry Keoghan and Lauren Ridloff had TREMENDOUS chemistry (they actually improved the loving Bradbury, to the surprise of the other cast and crew) that Zhao and the screenwriters changed their plans to capitalise on them getting along so naturally.

So glad they didn't end up implying Sersi and Druig was a thing...too much of a trope for the foil of the leader to have a love triangle with the leader's girl and this movie was great at subverting most tropes. Because Druig and Ikaris are absolutely foils to each other.

By far the best looking Marvel movie! The magic of having real sets combined with cg makes the imagery stunning and the world feel real! The moment when Tiamut breaks the waters surface gives me chills! So does seeing the scale of the Celestials to everything! Gives me goosebumps! This film took visuals to the next level! Shoutout to Chloe and the CG Artists! Also, the plot and m0vie in general wasn't bad. It was really good! one of my fav's. idk what the critics were going on about.
Critics were butthurt just because of the genesis theory in the movie and the LGBT sequences,and in reality the movie was great...

I don't understand why a lot of people are saying bad things about this movie. For me it was a really good movie and all the reaction I saw on UA-cam were positive. I understand that people not necessarily have to like this kind of movie but the bad things they are saying about Eternals is very exaggerated.
I am anxious to see what is coming on the future of the Eternals in the MCU.
Snowflakes. Someone on twitter actually looked up most of the bad critics to this movie & majority of them are legit straight white men, proving what Brie Larson said years ago about movie critics is right. They don't like diversity & minority in film industry & this movie has that, even if they handled it well without forcing them in ur face.
This movie has flaws ofc. Mainly the pacing & some of the characters development & the plot could have been written better. But it's no way terrible or a mess like all these people are saying. It's pretty good. Esp with such crowded actors & big history they've. I think they'd make an Eternal tv show to solve this issue. It'll make them & their history on earth fleshed out even more.

My dad who's catholic hated this movie for the gay kiss part and that ruined the entire movie for him. like bruh. if that happens in a normal household, what more inside these powerful cishet white men organizations.
This is by far my least favorite MCU movies. It was a struggle to get through the first half, though I found it picked up in the second half. I just thought it managed to be boring AND trying to do too much at the same time.
I mean, I loved the sfx, I generally loved the broad strokes of the plot, I loved the representation, and Makkari's speedster stuff is my favorite depiction of speedsters ever. The sfx of Celestials... hoo boy!
But it was such a struggle to sit through.

The biggest thing I appreciated about Eternals was there was technically no bad guys, just drama and conflict over purpose.
The guy who threw his family in with monsters to die seems like a bit of a bad guy to me.
Well the androids who only had one job, to safeguard and ensure the cycle of life, and who selfishly abandoned said duty so that new universes, worlds, and species now won't get a chance to exist like we once did from the previous cycle... they seem like bad guys to me.
I've heard complaints of the movie lacking of fight scenes. Like do people seriously expect a fight every 5 seconds in a 2 hour long movie? Especially since it's introducing a team of new characters Like seriously

@@LilGRaven you bring up such a good point - i noticed similar complaints about loki and their “filler” episodes not having enough action or shocking dramatic scenes. instant satisfaction doesn’t always work. storylines, character arcs and world building takes time to grow properly, and sometimes the slow burn pays off in big ways.

They’re everything to me
The thing about Ikaris stance it's that while it is a betrayal of his "family" it is not without any basis or even wrong if you view it from the POV of the greater good... And it wasn't just him like you said; Sprite has her feelings towards Ikaris but even before that moment when she went with Ikaris she showed that she was in favor of the Celestial's original plan; so was Kingo, he didn't take part on that later fight because he wasn't going to fight against his family but he did actually sided with Ikaris' stance.
He obviously displays blind allegiance towards Arishem and the Celestial's designs but that doesn't mean that he is wrong and he did tried to stay true to his beliefs without hurting the rest of the Eternals, he did what he did to Ajax to force the rest of them to remain occupied enough for the emergence to happen, he could've easily went around the world killing all of them one by one and that would've 100% made sure that the emergence will happen without problems.
And I think there is one big part of his motivation that people seemed to miss or perhaps the movie failed to make it more clear; He not only respected Arishem and the Celestials as creators but he also feared them (very rightly so) and mostly he feared what Arishem was going to do to them and specially Sersi if they went against his plan... When they went to see Druig and they were talking he voiced something very important about his character and his motivations when he said to Sersi that he was afraid of what her desire to stop the emergence was going to do to put her in the crosshairs of the most powerful beings in the Multiverse, specially the line he says to her: "I'm not powerful enough to protect you from him"... Ikaris is very confident in himself and he is clearly the most powerful among them, among the most powerful characters in Marvel, but he is not blind to the fact that if Arishem wanted to hurt Sersi there is not a fucking thing he could do to protect her.
very good point about ikaris fearing the repercussions! i think ultimately ikaris was influenced both by the fact that the eternals were meant to follow the celestials' orders and that he believed he was doing what was necessary for the greater good. of course, he never felt the same love for humanity that sersi (and a couple others, like phastos and ajak) did but he didn't support the celestials because he thought humanity didn't deserve to be saved. like you said, if he was really that evil he could've picked them off one by one, or just allowed the deviants to kill them all. there's a lot of nuance to his character and while it's understandable for the other eternals to lash out at him and label him as a betrayer, a coward, etc the complexity of his actions shouldn't be ignored.
he almost succeeded also, but it was obvious he wasn't gonna be able to kill sersi. He even tried. He's willing to sacrifice anything for the 'greater good', but draws the line when it comes to sersi.
100% agree to this comment, everything said is true. I loved Ikaris unlike many people, but his motive wasn't so bad, it's just the betrayal of family that didn't seat well with me. N I think this is another reason he killed himself, he knew he couldn't protect sersi after wat they had all done.
THIS! Especially the last part. A lot of people keep saying he had that toxic masculinity strength shit going on but no, he was scared because he knew what the consequences would be. And his point was only proven when Arishem does pull up on them at the end of the movie and no one could do anything, just slumped over like dolls that had their batteries taken out. He knew utterly helpless they would be when - not if - when Arishem showed up. So, in his own way he was trying to protect them from that judgement.
@@nebullae A lot of people be making wild takes about Ikaris (he underminded Sersi's leadership or he was a dick to the others or even that he was abusive), straight up ignoring his nuance and complexity so that their hate for him and headcanons work. It's really frustrating. You don't need to love or agree with him but don't reduce a well written character into a one-dimensional villain.
I love the title of this video and I wholeheartedly agree. This movie was great and the cosmic implications are so awesome and that last scene with Arishem splitting the sky...ooohhhh...chills. Loved it. Cannot wait to see where the Eternals pop up next.
I called it Megamind instead of Unimind. 😂 And yes, omg. I agree with the whole Ikaris-Sersi love story being lacking. The scene where Ikaris was crying in front of Sersi was supposed to be heartbreaking because they were in love for thousands of years but it did nothing for me. 😬 I was just like "okay Ikaris, eat shit" 😂

Only druig, phastos, and thena disliked Icarus. Kingo admired him, sprite was crushing on him, sersi liked that bland Icarus D, ajax I guess thought he was the leader, makkari was okay or neutral with him, Gilgamesh teased but didn't dislike him

I think ajak viewed him as a prodigy for her or like a son as she’s a maternal figure for all of them which makes sersi’s line “she loved you she loved you” hurt more along with the line “I’ve led you down the wrong path”

it's 2 & 3 weeks after endgame. so before shang-chi and hawkeye. endgame happens somewhere in the summer. then wandavision happens, tfatws too. hawkeye & spiderman nwh ending is in December. I'm guessing shang-chi would be like October the same year

Yes!! I think people just enjoy the basic story telling formula that the MCU is known for and are thrown when the directing and writing branches out to try new things. I loved the directing of Eternals and I think it’s a great origins movie

I agree, I think a lot of it is he’s in love with her and she’s no longer in love with him. Like we get a sign that he was enraptured with her the moment they came to life whereas she was in love with Earth first. He was always going to choose her and she was always going to choose humanity

Eternals was reviewed bombed before it even came out in theaters there are many articles written about that and that heavily skewed the critic ratings. Until they change the format and make sure people have actually watched the movie before you can rate and review it don't take it seriously. The audience rating is 80% so that's what really matters. It's not the best MCU movie but it's nowhere close to the worst.

I’ve read somewhere that Ikaris is supposed to portray the male gaze. If you look all of their “falling in love” scenes, Ikaris is always looking at Cersi, but she doesn’t really look back at him.
Because Sersi is so easily loveable. She is compassionate and kind and wants to help people. It's really easy for Ikaris to fall in love with her. And the movie makes it a little plausible that she'd fall in love with him because he's trying for her (learning the human languages to be closer to her and letting her guide him through being among the humans...after not trying for 4500 years of course, but we'll gloss over that) but he never really gets it, so anything she feels for him is built on an unstable foundation.
Phastos said Ikaris always underestimated Sersi.

Ikaris and Sersi give me first love vibes. But only on Sersi’s part… its like a younger woman and slightly older more experienced man. Her and Dane have more of a connection for sure.
I liked this movie a lot more the second time watching it. I don’t know why everyone hates it so much. Lol. Druig was my favorite character too. Him and Makari had way more chemistry than Ikaris and Sersi. I love seeing Marvel delve more into this type of territory.

The thing is, Makkari & Druig are hotter with just a few moments of nuzzling and snuggling, then Ikaris and Sersi having a sex scene and most of the screen time.
That’s a problem.
Now, I don’t know how they would solve that, but I am glad Chloe Zhao added the Drukkari romance into the movie.
Seeing how everyone is supportive of Ikaris and Sersi’s relationship, to the point of Ajak playing matchmaker, yet with Druig they don’t support him at all with his OBVIOUS crush on Makkari, says a lot about family dynamics and tension. I mean who calls someone “my beautiful…” unless they have feelings for that person?
Ajak seems to see Druig as her least favourite. Yet… she knew he was right more then he even knew. She seemed quite pissed off with him and does not play match maker for him, even to just distract him.
When it looks like Makkari FINALLY realizes she is in love with Druig after 2000 years, Kingo explicitly says he does not like them getting together and Phastos is straight up surprised. (For a speedster to take 2 millennia to realize she in love… girl, what are you doing?)
Kingo was even supportive of poor Sprite and her unrequited feelings, but for Druig…nope. Nothing.
Druig was totally the black sheep of the family.
My problem with the "sex on the beach" scene is that it's not necessary at all. The previous scene told us everything we need to know about their union. In those few minutes they could have shown us something relevant to the story or to some other character's development.

Oh for sure! And honestly the worst she does is injure Sersi. I think the movie does a really good job of showing us why she makes the decision that she does as well, and not just because of her feelings for Ikaris

Eternals is great! While there are plenty of fair criticisms much of the ‘hate’ the film received was manufactured by the usual suspects that have problems with diverse casts.
What do you mean? This movie was hated by the same critics that normally love diversity.
That being said I enjoyed the movie, and it was diversity done right.

I thought that when Phastos clamped Ikaris to the ground, the rings holding him were just a bunch of the "bracelets" (they were siphoning off his power), and one stayed on him.
With Sprite, Druig could have put one on her after he knocked her out.
They explain it as, Tiamut joined the Uni-mind and they were ALL connected to Tiamut.
So, no bracelets needed.
druig always looks at makkari like he's getting married to her every single second and NOBODY noticed lol
I think they noticed, they just didn’t care as Druig was the family reject.
I was so distracted by Druig and Makkari’s chemistry the first time I saw the movie. I was frustrated that Ajak didn’t support Druig, like she supported Ikaris when it came to romance. Then I realized, it’s because she does not exactly like him.
(Probably because she knows he’s right and he is basically a thorn in her side.)
She didn’t tell him to go to parties either. Then she breaks up the team when she couldn’t reign him in.
When Druig is mind controlling the village, Sersi literally tells him he’s better then this. That’s all he can do! Blame Arishem.
It was only when it looked like Makkari would return Druig’s feelings did anyone have an opinion about it. It was either surprise or disapproval.

Nah this movie was mid. The characters weren't fully developed, nor were their motivations.
Makkari for example is underutilized. Remove her from the movie and not much changes. She wasn't essential to the plot
Kingo wasn't even present during the climax of the film. Talk about wasted potential. You could've at least had him fighting alongside Ikaris.
Sprite was also a mess. She dead ass betrayed her family just because she had a crush on a man 😐 that's disrespectful.
Let's talk about ikaris. What the hell was he doing throughout that whole time? Why did he kill his mother figure? They could've at least elaborated on his decision more thoroughly. Explained why he has unwavering loyalty to Arishem.
This one applies to all except ikaris and gilgamesh. When Ajak died, most of them were unbothered. You'd think that their mother figure would've had a bigger emotional impact on them but it didn't.
To sum it up, too many things to establish in such little time.
The only Eternals i actually liked and i could make sense of were Makkari and Kingo. Sprite is a mess, Ikaris’ twist seems a bit forced, Gil had good moments but was obviously killed off, Thena was just really bland, etc

It deserve hate not a lot but it does when the whole running time of the movie is all about love story sprite, sersi,ikaris, dane and druig and makkari they're too focus on that.I don't know if I'm watching marvel movie or a love story movie..Long flashbacks with unnecessary scenes,lame jokes lastly terrible acting by some (not gonna name drop)to avoid arguments.
So yeah hate people who don't like this movie drove away the MCU fans who's just critizing this movie just because it has a lot of flaws..

I wont lie. I love the commentary. Need more like it. But can we talk about the boss of a female Makkari is? It's obvious that she wasnt going to handle Ikaris. But the effort.. speedsters and teleporters are hands down the best powers out there. I am not sure why cats are hating on this movie.. maybe its cause marvel has changed lives lol.. and when Endgame happened its like ok.. lets tug at the heart strong. All in all.. loved the movie and its not a blockbuster.. but served a good phase in the marvel platform.
I think people didn’t like it because it didn’t feel like a typical marvel movie and didn’t follow the formula that people are used to

Ikaris' only mistake for me was him letting the Deviants kill Ajak. He couldve restrained her if he wanted to and just alerted the other Eternals that he'd found more Deviants to keep them distracted.
Im also pretty sure he's not dead too. They"re really trying to tell me that these beings hand created by Celestials and full of 'unlimited cosmic energy' could be killed by our sun? I really respect them for trying, but you dont cast Richard Madden in a role like this and have him be a 1 and done, theyll be back in the sequel for sure.. him, Gilgamesh and Ajak.
Ikaris isn't dead, but I'm pretty sure the body he flew into the Sun is gone.

They are synthetic beings, with the plans for their bodies and their memories safely stored at the World Forge (But not their memories of Earth, unless Arishem did periodic downloads).
@@CyGea yes i don't believe ikaris as a character will never return (not to mention that'd be a huge waste of the talent that is richard madden), but the ikaris from this film is probably gone. i think the most obvious way to bring him back is for a duplicate ikaris (possibly upgraded?) to be presented by the celestials. the unfortunate thing would be that THAT ikaris would not have the same memories as the one who flew into the sun, but perhaps that's a good thing considering so many people prefer druig/makkari and thena/gilgamesh over ikaris/sersi.
@@nebullae i mean i loved the potential ikaris had in this movie i also love richard madden but it's probably better if this ikaris is gone, he wouldn't have been able to bear the regret of even attempting to kill sersi, not to mention killing other friends.

IMO sersi and Dane are a better match. Even ikaris and thena have more of an enemies to lovers chemistry. Thena and Gilgamesh/druig and makkari are my fav ships

I really liked it a lot, too! Not my favorite of the recent MCU movies let alone MCU movies but it’s really a good watch and progresses the over arching story forward in an interesting way. That’s what’s important

My unpopular opinion and MY taste I have put Eternals and Captain Marvel in my personal top 5 of MCU since they just spoke to me!

Thanos isn’t deviant. He’s full eternal. He just has a mutation that makes him look like a deviant. Just like someone who may be black but has an albino mutation.
I was worried that I wasn’t going to like this film because of all of the bad reviews. Although at times I was really confused by the lore of this story I did really enjoy it. I LOVED Druig and Makkari so much and Thena and Gilgamesh were the best platonic soulmates 🥺. I’m excited to see these characters again :)

I just watched the movie and I really liked it. It was fun to watch definitely not perfect but I would watch it again. And I agree screw the critics. Can't wait to see the future for eternals. Also I am glad I didn't watch this movie in the cinema with my mom like I had planned.

druig hated ikaris, phastos disliked him, thena was unsure whether to trust him or not, gilgamesh and makkari were neutral, kingo admired him, ajak adored him, sprite and sersi loved him. This is how it looked to me.
Gilgamesh can still come back because they are robots. Just need to move the memory to new body.

I agree this film was incredible, totally underrated I think gemma chan was remarkable in this more than captain marvel. I'm so glad you decided to give it a chance, Can't wait to see more. I also recommend either Final Space or The Dark Crystal Age Of Resistance the prequel series to the film The Dark Crystal. Both are underrated masterpieces and I think they would be great additions to your creative channel Or evan the Godzilla films. Can't wait to see you have next keep up the great work you rock!!

Part of Ikarus and Sersi’s emotionless relationship is that Ikarus barely grows past being a prime objective following artificial intelligence. So it doesn’t connect with us emotional beings.

Definitely more rewarding on a rewatch. I think that's my main gripe with this movie.
That said, I completely agree with your comment about the acting selling Ikaris and Sersi's relationship rather than the plotting. I guess we can see why he fell for her but never really get a sense of what she sees in him? I do like Richard Madden's acting when he's wrestling with his emotions at the end though.
I love how the differences in the Eternals themselves reflect the diversity in humanity. Not just looks but faith and behaviour too. Kingo being "with" Ikaris but unwilling to use might to enforce his feelings is such a brave choice in a superhero movie and I love that he sticks to his (finger) guns and doesn't show up to "save the day".
I think this movie gets better the more I see it. There's so much to chew on.

I think part of the reason you didn't buy the love that had been between Ikaris and Sersi is because it's a man you hate so much. How could you believe anyone could love him? It was never a problem for me just because Sersi is so warm, kind and compassionate, and so beautiful. Spending thousands of years with a woman like that, what kind of man wouldn't fall in love with her. But all those thousands of years were offscreen. By the time we join them, Sersi has moved on to Dane, and I didn't get the sense that she wanted to cheat on him.
As for the sex scene, it's a PG-13 Disney movie for family audiences. The fact that people still freaked out is crazy. There's no way they could give you the GoT style explicit graphic sex scene you wanted. This is the most you'll ever get. But I liked because because, people in love usually do have sex.

So it's a big deal to touch the Ebony blade because all wielders of the of the Ebony blade are cursed as soon as they touch it. More than that, the curse is unique to each wielder, so Dane doesn't know exactly what will happen and there's no going back. That's why Blade is asking him if he really wants to go through with it.
I liked this movie and it definitely isn't as bad as some say it is.

I personally think that the ONLY reason that their love story does not have any impact on my as a watcher is the fact that the actors had NO chemistry. The actors were PERFECT for the roles, and they are unbelievably talented, but they just don't have that chemistry together that makes them feel like genuine life partners.
I honestly don’t see why them being in love was important to the plot. Seemed like marvel just wanted a love scene for no reason

the thing I find most interesting about the whole thing is that Ikaris was so closed minded and his need to protect his family is what cause him to miss out on the things right in front of him and it goes to show him killing himself reveled how he felt about it, just goes to show he wasn't a bad person he was just loyal to the wrong person (Areshim) I also feel like with Sersi and Ikaris being in love is saying that it was just instant because of how long they've been alive I think who we see together in age and time is who always been together weather its fast or slow and this came to me when I was reading something and with Sersi and Ikaris the love may have been so deep that there was no actual falling in love but more of instant love where it didn't really take much but that's just my opinion

This influence can be seen through Kingo’s love of performance; he’s spent his time on Earth acting in movie after movie for a century, passing himself off as his own grandson to maintain the illusion of agelessness. This combined with a sense of flamboyance suggests Dionysus could be Kingo’s inspiration.
I’m terrified that if we got more Ikarus and Sersi scenes to develop more of their story, we would have had to sacrifice Makkari and Druig time or one of the other couples and I will not accept that!!!

I like this movie, I personally just don't like the pacing, some scenes didn't need to be in there, like introducing the Eternals so many times. I think it could've started off immediately with them trying to get the group together. That's just me though.
Oh also some of the fight scenes annoyed me, there are so many Eternals but there were times during fight scenes where I was like 'why isn't anybody helping!?!?'
I also agree that Sersi and Ikaris' love story did nothing for me
maybe the reason every other ship in this movie was better than Sersi and Ikaris is exactly to foreshadow that his love isn't all that pure, just like he isn't a good guy in the end. to me, it seems like the only relationship with clear power dynamics. not even Gilgamesh and Thena, that are literally caretaker and person-cared-for, have that.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but after the Eternals comic book was canceled in the 70s, the Thor books finished the saga, So wearing Mjölnir is appropriate for this movie.
I actually think the implied sex scene in Wandavision ep 2 is more romantic and believable than sersi and ikaris. They both are gorgeous human beings but the chemistry is lacking and the sex scene is so bland and in the sand so its less romantic and looks more like a chore

I think that the memory issues by Thena were more from the fact that her memories were being erased incorrectly rather than having too many memories; which is why when the "disease" was mentioned Ajax said the only cure was to have memories erased because the issues were a sign that they were not fully erased.
The thing is, the rest of the Eternals don’t know about the memory erasure. They just think she is delusional, when in actuality she’s remembering her traumatic past on other planets.
The only "complaint" I have about this is that it doesn't feel like a marvel film, but that in itself isn't a bad thing. Some of the script is a little... Clunky but it's definitely not a bad movie, and it's easily and very much better than Thor the dark world.
It feels a bit smushed and some parts of the movie felt very unnecessary

One of the Eternal’s strongest warriors, Thena (Angelina Jolie) has roots in the Greek goddess Athena. The movie even suggests that Thena was the model for Athena in the MCU, having inspired the ancient Greeks after spending time with them. The patron goddess for Athens, Athena was the Greek goddess of war and wisdom and one of Zeus’s oldest children. Thena’s ability to manifest weapons and her skill with using them makes her the perfect Eternal to embody Athena’s warrior side, while the sage advice she gives to Sersi in the final act of the film shows that she also possesses plenty of her own wisdom.
I absolutely loved this movie, it's been my most anticipated Movie of 2021 and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The story, The visuals, the feels and humor all balanced well for a movie of this scope. I've seen it a number of times and will see it again and again. Loved your commentary btw.
