My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss. - Розваги

Unfortunately the carers usually are the enablers as well which is both sad and disturbing 😢
Enabler spouses who are perpetually unemployed and intentionally keeping their spouse sick are not good at all. Whoever is bringing these people the food is a bad person or at least making some really bad choices.
What a great cousin .
I feel genuinely bad for Mercedes. She is so damaged and hurt. Most patients have intense trauma and while hers is similar to most on the show, she doesn't blame others or show hostility or cruelty. She genuinely tries and you can see progress in other ways, like how early on even her second trip to down Houston is easier on her, and she is able to walk better. In most cases she does lose weight, even if slowly, and makes small changes.
Some people have a slower journey than others. That doesn't mean they won't be successful, but it might not make them a right fit for this program or show. We have seen that in others, such as Samantha who received surgery from a different doctor and only spoke to Dr Now for 20 minutes in the entirety of her life.
Mercedes has a loving and supportive system around her. She obviously has some drive and enough dedication that she did keep going, even if it wasn't at the pace Dr Now wanted. I feel like he tends to be really inconsistent with his chances, too. I don't think this is the end of the road for her and that this means she is done.

As per dr now addiction is a choice I experienced sexual trauma as a child. i.choose to run five miles a day seven days a week with my dog not eating myself to death
I feel terrible for her children. I hope there will be a good future for them.

It's sad that her own family keeps feeding her. One article I watched, was a young man saying he keeps feeding his mom, because she get's in a bad mood, yell's & screams about hungry she is. I say, let her throw a fit, it's not like she can get up to whoop her son's. Her food she eats every day, would feed my family for a few weeks'. But I would not feed my family from a fast food restaurant, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Poor woman, she has been through so much, I really feel bad for her and I hope she can reach manageable weight, so she could live a normal life.

Why would her sister purchase her that much food? These people are not helping her. They are hurting her. Fix her a normal size plate, such as 2-3 eggs, 3 slices of bacon and two pieces of toast. If she wants more, tell her to get up and go cook it for herself. 🤔🤔🤔

Break the cycle for your children otherwise it's selfish entitlement. Learn to understand need vs. want. I live on between 600 and 800 calories a day. All the women in my family have done this. The volume is no more than the size of your fist. The normal size of your stomach. Put the fork down between bites,it takes 20 minutes for the brain to signal fullness. Our family has had it down to a science for generations. We all look atleast 20 years younger than our birth certificates say and live to be in excellent shape with a little power walking everyday. We live to be 100 plus. And yes, we've had traumas that would drive most people insane. The power of NO to unhealthy and Dr. No knows this!!!!

As much as i feel for her because what she's been through with a parent i think she's not exactly being a good parent either this way.
There’s so many other ways to bury and distract yourself from trauma. Writing, painting, getting involved in your kids class, knitting beanies for newborn babies, volunteering, working on being the best at something, making a goal, cooking for others, Bible study, teaching Sunday school, learning a skill you never thought you could do, rescuing animals, just burying yourself into helping others. All those things can distract you and help you heal from trauma. Food addiction is a poor way of managing pain and trauma. Food will never, ever get anyone through dealing with trauma. Action will.
It's easy to say, but the reality for everyone is different.
This has nothing to do with trauma. It's an addiction. But yes it's about replacing a bad habit with good or neutral ones. Not easy at all though.
I get tired of these people blaming everyone else for their own failures!

I think Dr now should advise his patient to control their insulin. You might be surprised how just cutting down on sugar and carbs will do for weght loss. Calorie deficit alone isnt enough.

He gives ALL the patients clear instructions about following a high protein, low carbohydrate diet & a comprehensive dietary plan with a bunch of recipes to start them off & what NOT to eat.
Plus a booklet on a specific exercise plan depending on their physical condition at the time. He even sends a physical therapist &/or a dietitian to them if necessary.
None of patients mention diabetic

Her dark knuckles say she's at least insulin resistant at best. His prescribed diet being low carb and low calorie will automatically bring her sugars down.

I swear every single person on this show has a story and it always involves abuse. No one ever takes accountability for their situations and the lives they created. Most of us have suffered traumatic events. I just believe it's easier for people to use a crutch to fail at life because making the decision to LIVE and fight for what you want is much harder and they prefer to force other people take care of them. My mother is like this and I had to cut her off. If she wants to give up on life that's on her. It is extremely selfish and irresponsible to bring kids into their lives when they can barely care for themselves.

This morning I had half a tin of grapefruit segments. At lunch I had a mini vegan 'pork' pie plus a small pot of soya 'yoghurt' and at tea I had a small, toasted high protein bagel. I have no concept how they can eat so much.
She never feels full/satiated. Food is more important to her than her children's well-being. The dopamine she gets from eating is one of her only pleasures.

Actually that's the perfect food for weight loss. Not that much of course, but most people could never eat that all themselves. Protein and fat are self-limiting.

a common thread among a large number of the folks who see Dr. Now.
Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, they abuse food and their own bodies. They've got to deal with the roots of the addiction.

Rather than thinking that being told to lose 80 lbs sounds impossible she should break it down and think that she only has to lose an extra 10lbs a week than the last time she was weighed - it doesn't sound so daunting looking at it that way.
80 pounds a month is not really realistic in my opinion , thats like 36 kilograms
for somebody who can barely move around , even if you for a regular sized person thats not even possible .
Its not even a healty way , it would harm her body even more .
