I love how all of that is fixable yet it’s like he’s trying to inspire entrepreneurs to do something about it.
Yeah making more skateboard billionaires!
I will say my mind is running with ideas right now!
Solutions have always been there it’s just the matter of production shipping and marketing, gotta realize why make skate products when you can make basic clothes and resell them for 2000% of what you paid.
How can I fix number 2
@@John_3563 lmao supreme palace and every other brand that calls themselves a skate brand.
Those puffy 90s and early 2000s skateshoes were comfortable. Airwalks were the most comfy shoes I ever had.
Only problem was everyone lookin like a child wearing their dads shoes, lol. But they were comfy. I'd add Etnies in there too, super puffy.
They were flat footed though. That’s starting to change
The etnies koston 1’s were lit
Globe fusions are the new puffy skate shoe of the people lol I like mine
Osiris all day
The fact skateboarding has such a big learning curve is a good thing it teaches people who stick with it resilience
Literally
my foot hurts thinking about it i was learning some flip tricks and basically falcon stomped my foot under the board😂 can’t wait to keep goin tho
Its a masochist sport. You skate knowing youll get hurt. I love skate and culture but i genuinely cant injure myself anymore
@@lurkwaveI used to beat myself up skating but nowadays at the crisp age of 24 my body is failing me lol, I pretty much stick to flat ground and smallish transition
Fully agreed it’s a sport unlike the rest, takes pain, extremely hard work, and most importantly, dedication
After 6 months, doing a decent olly still feels like calculus for me
I need a 14 month update.
bro i’m like 6 months in and there only just starting to be okay
It took me a year to get consistent ollies, and keep in mind consistent doesn't mean good. They were consistently terrible. Once my ollies became really good, pop shuvs became super easy and so did fs 180s. Now I can kickflip, fs pop shuv, getting super close to tres and hardflips and I've been skating for like 5 years total, minus all the breaks from injuries. It's a long road but it's worth it, keep on pushing dude
@@serbiansleeperagent you have my word 🛹🛹🫡🫡
@@noahhorler1975 that's what I like to hear 🤟🏼
You got me w this one bro. Very quick and well done
Let's go in half and try too make it happen bro lol how much money you think just the board trucks and wheels would coast too get right, I can fix the screws grind them down I do, the grip-tape I think that would be hard for people to just change up on, I like lose trucks ,then after you fix everything, your going too need a skate team that likes your board trucks and wheels ,would need millions and millions of dollars good luck to who ever takes that on I think you would lose so much money trying too fix that.
Gang,y.y.u
This guy is beta skateboarder. He probably wants tampon
@@mr.o523 he’s been skateboarding for longer that you have lmao
Hello Reezy... odd seeing you here
Remember grind kings? They had those rounded Allen wrench kingpins. Those were actually great trucks.
You can buy that to put on your trucks. Inverted king pin
@Surf Skate Ride or Die Films of America yea and now other companies are selling inverted kingpins acting like they invented it. Shame.
Krux Trux but you can buy an inverted kingpin for Indys but they’re like the price of another half of trucks
@@littlebear2477 if u order directly from independent you can swap for the inverted kingpin for no up charge
@@Diebold410 yeah right that’s pretty sweet I wish I bought mine directly.
As a overweight skater who can’t jump high enough to flip trust me there’s an abundance of flat ground you can learn. Ollie’s, shuv it’s, pop shuv it’s, 180’s, big spins, half cabs. And you can learn all those fakie and switch to at least be able to play a good game of skate. Trust me I’ve taken people who can kick flip all day out with just fakie and nollie full cabs and big spins
You can definitely kickflip bro, don’t say can’t cause can’t never could
Lose weight
Bro it’s not even about how high you can jump it’s more about your flexibility which anyone can achieve!
If you can ollie over a deck on its side, you can kickflip. If you can ollie off a curb, you can kickflip!!! Gotta work on the leg mobility/flexibility. You gotta be able to get your legs up high like a high ollie, while the board stays relatively close to the ground. So if you can physically jump over a deck on its side, you can kickflip!! You got this dude!!
Strawberry Milkshake, primo tricks, casper, carousel, manual slam(disaster) into curbs to get over them, vert
As a baseball player, the board drifting to one side was satisfying. It reminded me of a nice curveball
😁
Nothing gets me harder than a filthy slider
@@SuperNuclearUnicorn 🤨
The "tricks in between" are just taking time to get really comfortable aka skating on one foot, tic-tacs, curbs up and down, manuals, slappies, and generally skating transitions
What annoys me is I can do all of that aside from slaps, can even do basic lip tricks, yet I somehow still can’t kickflip, pop shuv or even 180 😂😂
@@SpectrXMOfcl don’t feel bad. Took me a year and half to learn my first flip Turk which was a kick flip, yet I could do basically any spin trick like big spins and 3 shuvs
@@SpectrXMOfcl Try nollie/fakie shoves without popping first so you get used to the shove motion. Don't worry about learning tricks in any specific order. Heelflips were the first flip I learned; I practiced by holding onto the back of a couch stand-still on carpet. That might be cheating, but it worked. Pressure flips (the standard inward heel kind) are the easiest flip, in my opinion, very similar to a pop shove.
Also shuvs and 180s
And 180s, shuvs, fakie tricks.
It's like you're challenging me and asking for help at the same time. I feel the need to do something.
Shuvs and 180s are good to learn and I learned bonless fingerflip was very fun to do until I learned kickflip
@@nathanturner3950 that’s not what he was talking about but nice
*do it my guy*
@@Churr0UA-cam im on the same boat. Do it my dude. Whatever it is it can’t be impossible.
I used to skate as a kid back in Poland. Moved to Australia as a teen and kind of stopped pursuing learning the tricks and just started longboarding downhill and surfing. This video has kinda inspired me to pick up the board again at almost 32 years old 😎🤙🏼
Well done
@@tenchskate6066 thanks bro, appreciate it! Officially 32 as of yesterday 😎🤟🏽
As a beginner, the one about ollies to kickflips could not possibly be more true
you got it bro keep trying
@@yeet__5955 this was 7 months ago???
@@tjrysanek9019 huh it was so can you kickflip yet
Kinda....
you should never learn ollies then kickflip immediately. you need shuvs and 180s first
Both the flatspots and wheel resistance on slides can be fixed by formula four. Seriously that urethane is crazy and I dont know how it exists.
They just released 97d wheels that I really really wanna test out at some of these cali parks too🤩
@@tbvolcomskater I have the conical full in the 97 they’re incredible
Yeah dude, been using nothing but spitfire for years and formula 4s have never let me down.
@@nickredwine17 how does the 97d compare to the original 99/101d? as far as slide and speed, are they less or more or what’s up?
Got formula fours and still got em flatspots
The holes where the board attaches to the trucks should be sleeved with metal, trucks are simple and for this reason I think they should stay the same, because simplicity is the key to durability.
Metal sleeves wouldn't do anything but continue to stretch just like the screws do, you could just use partially threaded screws and avoid the metal sleeve idea all together
Could put an open center rivet in the hole. Itd act like the paper hole savers for tabbed folders. You know the things that look like bunion pads.
You need trucks that clamp down onto the board. Imagine a thin metal plate on the top of your board, and the heads of the bolts pull it down into the board while the "plate" of the trucks is pulling up into the bottom. Clamping both plates down with the wood between them. Tighten it down tight enough and that thing won't be moving anywhere.
The only problem is that you would need to cut out a slot in the top of the board for the top plate to fit flush with the rest of the board, and I'm not sure how bad that would be for structural integrity. You would probably notice a lot more boards snapping right over the trucks. Not to mention the added weight...
......the same problem would persist unless the whole board was metal. The metal will still damage the wood with the weight of your body. It's the type of wood not the bolts. If the bolts were made if any more of a viable material they would snap. Easiest solution is upsize. Thicker bolts means less room for spread. Idk why they use TINY THIN bolts. Rediculous
@@RATD0GG you’re describing drop-through trucks. They use them on longboards.
Strangely I fell in love with all these issues, only took me 20 years. 😘
are you 20 or have you been skating for 20 years
'Maaaaa...wheres my pen and paper? i need to come up with something before dinner is over!'
So this is an "old man" hack: If your shoes are hurting your feet get new insoles. You have to try a ton of different ones to find ones that work well, which can get expensive, but it is well worth it long run. First thing I do when I get a new set of shoes is get insoles for them.
With x amount of years John has been skating you think he would just use some insoles to help, huh. Most comfortable shoe I’ve skated is Tristan Funkerhouser’s mid pro model for DC
Noted🤷♂️
Fp insoles are the best insoles for skate shoes btw

I used to skate and my shoes never made my feet hurt, now that I’ve stopped skating and now I rock climb I can assure that skating shoes feel like clouds
It's because he skates laceless shoes that are clearly to small
Lol I feel you climbing shoes are the WORST
Lol this. Even "comfy" fit multipitch all day trad shoes are terrible compared to skate shoes.
After 15 years since I stopped skating I still wear skate shoes. I prefer DC shoes for my wide neanderthal feet, like walking on clouds.
Actual mousetraps on each toe would be more comfortable than rock climbing shoes, can confirm
Bro I skated the Giger drip board and loved it. It’s cool to see someone else riding it
Grind King!
You wouldn’t get flat spots if you rode spitfire formula fours 😎.
fax
I powerslide hundred times per day never had one flatspot on F4´s
My thought exactly, mans just riding the wrong wheels
They definitely still flat spot
@@splifffmonkey3209 i see u have never experienced the fourmula 4’s
i was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, which basically means a tenon on the bottom of my food gets little micro tears every time i stand up, get out of a card, jump etc. as you might imagine it made skating hell, eventually forcing me to quit entirely. so yeah, the invention of some comfortable skate shoes would be sick
I have had this in both feet from skating for over 20+ years. There were some days I couldn’t stand up out of bed. I would have to crawl to the bathroom. Roll a cylinder (I used a glass bottle, but be careful) under your foot for a few minutes in the morning to stretch out the muscles on the bottom of your foot. It helps so much.
@@usernamehere2124 man that's sucks, hope everything will be fine for you
i feel you bro i have flat feet and 2 bunions /: literally every time i step it hurts my feet i jus ignore it when i skate but i regret it the next day and have to spend the day icing my feet and recovering i stretch them often but i work on my feet all day and it jus is depressing
Username's reply is accurate, if you want to hit galaxy brain status, use a frozen water bottle. I get up most mornings and roll my right foot on one while I wait for the ibuprofen to kick in, lol. I got a pair of Emerica Pillar Mids, they're the most comfortable skate shoe I've ever worn. If anything I feel like skating is one of the most comfortable things I do, it's being on my feet cooking all day that doesn't help
I had this trying to get my fat ass running...
Awesome job John, keep killing it bro 😎👌
Ollie to kickflip was one of the biggest frustrations in my life for a while
I agree so much with the holes for trucks and non abrasive griptape. But…then I can’t make clear griptape designs anymore with the non-abrasive grip. Also I rarely rip laces but it’s never been a problem when I do since Converse Cons come with an extra set or two usually.
Do u not do tricks? How do u not rip laces
@@Haveink I just said I “rarely” do. It still happens. I don’t have the problem as much with high top converses. Back when I used to skate Janoskis, Vans, or even the low top Converses I’ve ripped the laces more. Plus I rarely do tricks that involve your front foot as much. For instance, tres, impossibles, spins/full cabs, shuvs. Even a varial heel there’s not much direct contact with the laces as a kickflip I’d say. I just can’t do a regular kickflip for some reason. Like it’s not as comfortable as a heelfip, but that’s unrelated.
@@Haveink basically all i do is flip tricks and i ride 8.5/8.75 and i can dub flip on them, ive never ripped a single shoelace
@@Haveink also my switch foot shoelaces get wear on them while my regular foot laces are in perfect shape
@@AbandonedRaven damn fr? I be doing basic ass ollies n shit and they rip all the time 😞
#6 is already fixed, Christian Flores actually has unbreakable shoelaces that ACTUALLY WORK
where can i buy them
Do they really work? I've never seen any one review them.
@@stschannelt1476 they are what 3 months old?
Yes I bought one pair to try them out and I was AMAZED lol now I have a pair on all my shoes. They are phenomenal 👌🏻
that thing about ollies to kick flips is so insanely true. the drop off is crazy
That box with the rail is dope
I had problems with shoes hurting as i got older but then I got the Es Accel OGs and they are so damn comfy. I'm on my third pair, they're pretty my default shoe now. I personally really like the big puffy shoes of the 90s so if you're at least open to that then I strongly recommend them
you should try dc lynx og. they are pretty simular but have shoelace protectors and are overall more detailed shoe
@@lebuo111 They look so sick but not as straight shaped and wide at the midfoot so the Accel it is. Only shoe that fits my wide feet with collapsed arches.
Skate shoe issues you’re having could just need a different lace configuration and an insole that fits you.
I have a wide foot so to get regular sized skate shoes to fit I don’t cross the laces till the second eyelet.
Or use paracord as laces🤷♂️
thank you for the idea, i have wide feet too and sometimes idk whether to buy a size bigger or actual but hurts, i didnt think to lace up my shoes farther up, thanks again
I feel you on the ollie to kickflip. I have to be doing something wrong if i've been going at a pop shuv for a year lmao
get impact/mini riser pads to but between your trucks and the deck. those things totally stop the screws from making the holes bigger and getting wobbly, and it helps prolong your trucks life too they’re great.
Bolt sticking out too far out: washer spacer or make the bolt loose with a hex hole on the end.
Sink hole keeps widening: put tape over the top of the holes as a and then poke them through. Rip off the extra.
Wheels get flats: put them on the flat on concrete tension it forward drag sideways. If it got worse you need more tension forward. You can also do this by randomly by holding the trucks and sanding the other side.
Tensor had that plastic piece at the baseplate, which would limit most wheels from hitting the rail / ledge.
That flat spot trick was sick 😮
I love that motor sound when the wheels get a flat spot. It's like putting a card in your wheel on your bike to make it sound like a dirtbike 😂
John it’s been a solid 6 or 7 years since I’ve seen your videos. Glad to see your still grinding “literally” 🤣
wdym by that😏
Airwalk used to make awesome skate shoes back in the day. Like over 30 years ago lol
I love airwalk
i remember airwalks being a thing
Broke nigga shopped at payless
Airwalk Prototype 600F hi tops were near indestructible. You would end up with no sole remaining on a near new looking shoe. Vision DV9's on the other hand weren't. I saw a pair go from new to ruined in about 8 hours of skating.
Tensor fixed the last one 20+ years ago with the slider section
..always have and always will be my favorite trucks
Back in the day i had a set of grind king trucks. The king pin used to be the best part of those trucks, it is inverted so the nut is inside the base plate and the bolt head was exposed. The king pin sat a good 3/4" lower than the axel so you could grind them until they snapped in half.
All of these are very honest! I think down the line skateboarding will advance and solve these little issues
Christian flores sells unbreakable shoelaces for like 10$
And "Lifetime Laces"
Number 8 is so true
Tricks between Ollie and kick flip:
Shove
Front shove
Front 180
Back 180
Half cab

Bolt holes stretching: run 2 bolts when those holes stretch switch to the other 2
Double knee injury so I haven't skated in years but I always thought manuals were great for new skaters. Relatively easy, reinforces good foot placement and builds balance skills.
I broke my wrist manualing on a smooth road 😂
@@unapologeticapollo4254 you can do that with any trick if you don't commit or don't bail correctly.

🥲 tight it was
Washers for the holes.
Some type of polymer grip tape probably?
Thrift shops for shoes.
I have the Kyle walker pro 2s as well and love them
Love the shirt man! Plannjng to getting the mtg revive board.
Cool vid. In the old days we had lappers. They were a plastic piece that lapped over the kingpin and whole front area of trucks. They made smiths and like wise tricks very nice and also eliminated truck hangups on rolling in on copings that stuck out alot that would sometimes grab. Yes some of the cheaper ones cracked sometimes but bones made a quality one with real strong plastic that didnt crack. I thought they were great but havent seen them around for years. I also liked them cause your bolt thread didnt get tore up either
I started cutting the top of the kingpin. Then I "inverted" them. Then I bought Grindkings inverted kingpins. They worked so fine I've just bought my second pair since the 90's
@@azazelreficulmefistofelicu7158 Nice. 👍
A lot of the old school stuff from the 80's is making resurgences. We're seeing rail and tail guards coming back along with square tailed boards etc.

Get spitfire formula 4s I’ve had a set for 3 years and they still haven’t gotten flat spots
Same
These all have super simple solutions, except for the price one of course. However there are *plenty* of tricks between ollies and kickflips btw.
Guess he didn't watch the nine club episode with professor Schmitt..
For the shoes I suggest nijah Houston 3’s the impact support is great
this videos amazing cuz these are all problems i’ve been trying to fix😭
I believe I have a solution to the loose truck screws. You could bore the holes just a bit and put a wooden sleeve in it and once it gets loose again, just replace the sleeve. This is a common fix for damaged cylinders in engine blocks and I think it’d work great for this too.
Holes would likely still Waller out anyways
You are thinking of a bushing 👍
Thunders geometry pushes the wheels out more and that’s why your wheels hit on slides. Something like an indy or ace is pushed back more so your baseplate hits when sliding not your wheels👌🏼 kinda just something you have to deal with if you’re a die hard thunder guy. Indy and krux also have a new inverted kingpin that’s absolutely amazing for smith grinds. One last thing is softer bushings help your trucks not turn one way
yea i noticed that too when i tried out thunders and they were too low for me so i went back to independents and they feel so much better
i feel like the screw holes stretching is hard unless we switch away from wood based boards or to boards that are less susceptible to changing with heat but that could have a lot of other problems like making boards more expensive or less resistant to changes in weather
All you need is a insert pressed into the deck for the screw, it's probably the misalignment of the slip fit on the screw that causes the wear.
For the holes wearing we could do like a fillement type stopper inside of the hole that can easily be replaced and will wear slower.
Saving this so i can come up with a solution and become a millionare.💸
You should check out any of the evergreen skate parks in Texas, heard they’re cool
Man I hope I catch u at Tcc one day
If you want pillows on your feet then you’re in luck, Osiris is still making puffies 😉😆👍🏼
Back in the day my dad said they used to just put candle wax on rails so that you’d slide better on the rails. No clue if this is still a thing or not.
Definitely still a thing, you can buy specific skate wax now, too.
Whoever reads this can steel my idea.. But what if you made wheel mold where you put your old wheels in and then pour in some type of epoxy to take away the flat spots?
Great video bro 😂👌Metal grommets for the truck holes might be a good place to start, maybe even using a rivet gun to ensure they always stay centered of the hole !
Grindkings had that super low allen bolt truck. Tenser trucks comes with a cap on the edge of the trucks the spaces your wheels away from the ledge when you noseslide or tailslide. Osiris shoes are like walking In pillows, also comes with double eyelets where the outter set protect the laces, also has a strap inside so you CAN rock em without any laces if you'd like, & id suggest the Osiris Clone. And as for the additional tricks in between Ollie and kick flip.... Those are called shuv-its
Thank you for some buisness ideas sir.
You'll never have enough money to start tho
What about the Indy's with the rounded king pins I've never caught on mine
Inverted, yeah
Love that mtg style Revive shirt.
I have never thought about these issues ever

this is a great idea for a video man. fantastic content
those vans comfort insoles are pretty nice dude
Grind king had trucks with a reverse king pin I liked em. Also Osiris made a shoe D3 i think they were like skating on clouds.
for the issue of the board holes widening with use, maybe threaded metal inlays? like an aluminum plug with threads, that allow the screw to be secured into additional threads, to not expand the wooden material
I think this would probably work, but then see the following problem "good boards are expensive"
@@addledhead honestly, machining it wouldn't be that hard, and wouldn't change the price of a board drastically
The wood would stretch around the insert then. The problem is that wood is a relatively soft material and deforms easily especially under the stress skating puts on it. They need to use a new material for decks that’s harder but can still flex
@@tsklitzka So maybe like fiberglass like older boards?
@@cervesthd806 they stopped using fiber glass because it sheds glass fibers when it gets beat up and gets stuck in your skin and burns like a Motherfucker
There’s revers king pin trucks and some trucks with recessed bushings that solve the smith grind issue, some people have the tips of those board flared a bit higher to avoid the wheels rubbing the rail and stopping you, many versions of grip tape exist to avoid burning the laces fast. Using risers help with the board turning even though the holes are stretched. No risers puts stress on the holes more vs having a riser that absorbs the moments that end up eventually stretching the holes
Man has the Pete Parra dunks shredddeeeeedd 😬 fair haha
That shirt looks like MTG merchandise, I love it.
When it comes to the ollies and kick flips part he talk about I just never learned kick flips and learn a bunch of different transition tricks and freestyle tricks because when it comes to freestyle tricks I feel like they’re easier but when you learn a whole bunch of them they’re equivalent to going from ollies to a kick flip
I like how most of these problems are actually just a result of use and wear, so there isn't much you can do to fix while maintaining the current meta for skateboarding. Bro is just complaining about the consequences of an imperfect world.
This comment right here is fn gold …almost 40 been skating since 10 and these are just the thing you go thru with skating…get a diff shoe then cause I found dc feel good but so do chucks….get better at grinding etc
True
You ain't lying bro,he gives the rest of us who shred and deal with it like a real boy a bad rep
That’s the point of engineering, though. Something can be a natural result of deterioration, but that doesn’t mean something can’t be made to increase the longevity of things. Why argue against someone inspiring others to address issues that arise in a sport they enjoy?
@@CestJordan you have a point. But I can also understand these guys point of view as well.
I had a set of Krux that had a flush kingpin. It used a hex bolt which was annoying, but it might held with them being too high (I’m not sure I was never good enough to actually trick skate unfortunately)
We used to have pillows in the 90s to early 00s...DVS, Osiris, Etnies...

I recommend freestyle flatland tricks for beginners. You learn board control and balance so it's a good foundation before learning ollie into flip tricks or grinding
We had og Nike 6.0s. I bought so many pairs 15 years ago. Used them for wake skating and all
I remember when you were my favorite skater. Idk what happened.
Love that shirt.
Is there a way to sort out or manage the trucks leaning to one side?
I've tried everything
I like the motor purr sounds
This is all very easy I might start getting to work on this in the near future
Just got a pair of vans half cabs and man they are comfy
1. there already are solutions to the kingpin problem 2. get riptide pivot cups 3. get a thin piece of rubber/shock pad to go between trucks & your board 4. I haven't got flat spots with Spitfires yet 5. shoe goo 6. also several shoes that have the laces problem mostly fixed (also, don't spend so much on shoes!) 7. you can get generic decks that are of very good quality (& taking time to pick the right trucks & wheels to last long for you helps) 8. there's an infinite number of tricks before ollies & in-between ollies & kickflips you can learn & do variations of if you are creative 9. wax 10. try different shoes and/or get inserts
The tucked in t shirt is killing me
Hearing that Ollie's to kick flips being akin to addition to calculus makes me feel better about only being able to Ollie, shuv, and 180. I'll get there eventually hopefully 🤞
i've never had bolt holes in a deck stretch like that. the only way i could see it happening is by continuing to ride your board with loose bolts. so get bolts that don't come loose on their own, make sure to tighten them properly when setting it up, maybe check them periodically and tighten if needed.
Get xero shoes the prio or kelso models...theyre amazing to skate in
for the wheels getting stuck on the rail. wax the rail then butane torch it.
wax goes into the micro pores of the metal and makes it pretty slick, also good for concrete and impregnating it with wax
or just wd40 a papertowel/rag and rub the sides of said rail..
