I absolutely love how huge the 96 is - I used an 92 for about ten years. I got CoolorCaps knobs for even more space between everything and it makes the mixer feel even better. Fantastic piece of kit in every way and incredibly comfortable.

Haha.. the most DJ´s I´ve played with have never seen somebody switching more than one filter on.. it´s like a hidden Tekken move for DJ´s on the 92!
Don´t tell anybody that you can change the resonance of the filter from normal to heavy inside of the 92´s;)

@@Davemech Yeah, I've been watching your videos and really like what you do with the DB4 and digitakt. I'm in the process now of transitioning from traktor timecode vinyl to all sync so I can free up all that effort of beat matching three decks and focus more on mixing and fx chains. Your videos do show a lot of great techniques with the DB4. I might do a video of some tips on the DB4 and K2 combo once I dial it all in. Keep it up mate!

I absolute love the Xone 96. so many send / return possebilitys, the 4 band eq is so smooth, the crunch adds just such a nice flavor to the filter and they still think about the midi out. My absolute favorite mixer for djsets and dj + hardware hybrid sets. Next week i will have one for a extended perfor, mance with 2 cdj's + Digitakt, Digitone, Boss rc 505 and GFI Specular Tempus. Always happy when i can play with that beauty, happens way to rare because most dj's still prefer pioneer, what i totally can not understand.

i want to upgrade from the xone 92 to a 96 because having just to plug a single usb cable and not having to deal with audio interfaces and mac os updates is great ! but when i have to play at a venue which don't have a xone 96 mixer i'm done ! and i don't want to travel with a mixer ..so finally should i keep the audio interface just for this case or better stick with the 92 ?

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  Рік тому +1

Good to have a backup for sure. But 96 should become more and more available when put on the rider. Just a matter of requesting it. You know how to work the 92 plus audio interface so keep that as a backup so you can easily switch if a venue doesn’t have a 96. You know this before you go out to play. And you can treat the 96 as the 92 by simply sticking it in the audio interface to test things :)

A lot of people love the Strymon reverbs. Source audio also has a reverb + delay unit where you can combine a reverb and a delay at the same time. But there are many offerings really. So best to research a bit to see what you like and is within budget.

Well, db4 doesn't have midi out (only via USB to slave a daw to the db4). I always adjust the clock manually on the db4. Having said that they are both so very different. Analog sound and summing with send returns to add your own fx, or a prestine sounding fully digital mixer with studio grade fx engines on each channel and loopers and super customizable routing.
Both have their place. I chose db4 because I wanted to go laptopless and have all the fx and loopers on one mixer :)

Haha no it's not the mixer. In the xone px5 review I used the elektron analog heat as a master insert to add some saturation to the signal as a way to showcase the master insert. Rather exegerated though so that's probably the difference that you are talking about.

They are different beasts. Both have their strengths. Model 1.4 simply fitted perfect a particular setup I’m using in a new live project. I do really love the way you have control over sound in more detail and I’m a sucker for saturation and filters and model 1(.4) is amazing in that department.
The reason I got rid of the xone96 is that eventually I realized that xone db4 was just a better fit for me. Even though it’s a completely different mixer. The biggest reason I got the 96 was because I thought then could stop bringing my own mixer and just put it on my rider. but this turned out to be not the case all the time unfortunately.

I actually use xone DB4 for my live sets. I had the xone 96 but ultimately sold it because the DB4 keeps my live rig a bit more compact because of its many options. The PX5 was a review unit I got as a lone from Allen & Heath and has been returned to them. Currently have a lone model 1 for review here so going to create a video of that as well :)

Check my comparison video. I'd argue that's not true. But it's of course to each their own. In the end it's a personal preference.

@@Davemech as in the quality of the build, lots of people I’ve seen complaining that they are falling apart after a year.. 92 15 years still going strong, can’t beat the old stuff, most made in Japan - what’s your view on the db4

@@markyruss There will always be a few duds and nowadays people head over to internet to complain about it (and understandably so). It's not much different in build quality than the 92 really. It's build like a tank. :). DB4 is incredible. Have a lot of videos on my channel about it.

@@Davemech and do you feel they have caught up with pioneer in regards to the fx section which the 92/96 lack ?

@@markyruss Db4 is already 10 years old but always had a much much better FX section than pioneer and it still does. Way more creative in use and less "instant gratification" like pioneer. Personally not a fan of pioneer FX at all

I don´t like this mixer, from what I´ve seen is not for me, usually I think in life you can choose from Apple o pc, on everything, I am an Apple guy, and for me A&H is pc. Well, well, well! :)

@@quechothedj all good :) some things take a bit of time to get used to though. It’s a very different kind of mixer, but in terms of control over sound and the quality of analog summing and filters, the xone is really wonderful if you give it a chance :). Cheers
