@carrie - I think some animals (in this case, cats) kinda HAVE to take these meds, if they're going to be healthy, active, & content in their daily existences... not sure I'd deliberately skip their meds, just because they might "spit it up" or vomit. Lol. One could have a bacterial infection and need antibiotics. Another animal could have arthritis or something requiring treatment. Plus they all get multivitamins and minerals probably. So, yeah, probably best to force it down as enjoyable as possible! Animals are a lot more vulnerable to illnesses and infections than humans are, usually, so they've gotta find a way.
Thank you for showing us how you do the meds and and then give them to the cats and their snacks you all are so amazing and special thank you Big cat rescue for everything ❤️❤️❤️
Happy Purrrsday BCR. That was very interesting to watch. And color me shocked that there is a powder form of a medication for them. I wasn't expecting that at all. (nope)
We do that kind of things to horses too (I’m a horse rider) like we make a hole in an apple/ carrot, then put the meds in then give it to them sometimes they will spit it out.
@@stickshiftstarship Usually, pills for domesticated cats are smaller than those for tigers, lions or other large cats. The dosage for large cats is much larger and thus need bigger pills. It isn’t the size of the pill that’s a problem. It’s that they don’t want to take it regardless if it’s in pill form, powdered form or even liquid form. Even hiding them in pill pockets, pieces of cheese, or mixing them in wet food doesn’t make them want to eat their meds.
@@Counterbalance_ I think it might be the smell? (idk) I think someone I know used to have to hide the pill with cheese, as apparently that'd cover up the smell of the pill. Though you probably shouldn't feed cats cheese as apparently most cats are lactose intolerant.
If medically necessary yes they are spayed/neutered. If they live with a mate, they are spayed and neutered as we do not believe in breeding for life in a cage. Since big cats are solitary by nature most all the cats live alone at the sanctuary and have no opportunity to mate.
Many of our cats are over the age of 20. Some are on medications for arthritis (some from being declawed by their former owners), pain management for bone issues due to poor diets by their former owners, high blood pressure meds, allergy medications to name a few.
How do you know if they really are eating their meds? Do you check when they are finished? I have 2 cats and a dog. Meds for the cats i force feed (but i dont think that is a good idea with a tiger hihi) and after finding out my dog would just eat arround the meds i force feed him too. Are the big cats so focussed on their food that they dont notice? And why do some of the cats get a chick with their meds in it? I always tought the cat species dont eat bones like wolf (dog) species do. Is this true? I love your channel and the videos. And thanks for this one!
Yes we check to be sure they have taken them. It sometimes takes more than one try to get the med in the cat. They are very smart and sometimes spit the pill out or eat around it. The reason some get chicks is they will take it better that way. Big cats in the wild eat whole prey so yes they do eat bones. Raw meat with bones. Not cooked. Cooked meat makes the bones soft and splintery and could cause intestinal issues.
No we do not get any funding from the government at any level. All of our cat care money comes from donations. We need to raise $3.5-4 million/year to care for the cats.
Many are over the age of 20 and require pain medications for arthritis. Many have been declawed by their former owners which causes pain in their joints. Some get meds for allergies and some for high blood pressure.
Gabepentin is for arthritis. It is an anti inflammatory for pain and swelling of arthritis. Many of the cats were declawed by their former owners and have arthritis in their feet/ankles/legs from it. The receive it to make them more comfortable.
Gabapentin is safe (hopefully) and it works great for nerve pain on people and my elderly cats. That's cool it relieves pain in these wild cats also! 🐾

Sadly, my domestic cat isn't so easily fooled into taking meds. It's as if she always *knows*.
The pills are probably a lot bigger to her, proportionally.
@@stickshiftstarship , I grind them into powder or break them into smaller pieces, but it doesn't make any difference.
Then again, it's a lot easier to give oral syringe meds to a domestic cat than one of these guys.

Have you ever had the cat just refuse outright?
I wish i can help but i'm just a kid 🙁
You can help by sharing their channel and getting your parents to buy you one of the Big Cat Rescue t-shirts. God bless you for wanting to help.
You can subscribe to the channel and keep watching their videos, too - it helps!! ❤🐾
Joseph está vivo?
you are doing great work. how much quantity of meat is required daily for these big cats ?
Close to 500 pounds of food a day. It costs $10,000/big cat/year for food and vet care.
@@bigcatrescue Do you guys get any help from local or central govt? I guess 10k dollar/cat/year is huge amount.

I cannot jus say 😊
Do thie big cats ever get fishes? 🤔
Yes some of the cats do like fish.
What kind of snacks do you mainly feed them?
The eat meat snacks of beef, chicken, turkey, fish and pork.
oh ok
What was that thing in the container with legs on it?? Did anybody else see that?
Those are chicks that are used to put medications in for some cats. They have been humanely euthanized and arrive frozen from the supplier.
Pls do video did big cats love ice cream
If big cats like egg
Why do they need meds?

please...give me subtitle i can hear anything 😕
how do those chickens get slaughtered
We purchase them from a company and receive them frozen. All of our meat is USDA restaurant grade meat.
Are these mice?
There are chunks of meat and humanely euthanized chicks.
Why are they giving them gabapentine.
Many were declawed and have arthritis. Others are quite old (over 20) and have arthritis in their joints like humans.
