Hello Tia & Cheveyo, @5:22 I just wanted to inform you that anytime you see people directing you to a parking area like this, do not listen to them. Drive further in and I guarantee you there will be closer parking for the same rate. Even if there aren't any, it doesn't hurt to check! Wish you 2 safe travels.
I understand that not every day in your adventure is rosy and perfect. Your attitude, opened mindedness, and zest for life are highly contagious. You are living someone else's dream. I left the country as a teenager, and have been wanting to explore different segments of VN before my retirement. You 2 are awesome!
Hope your dad feel better. The mystery bean wraps are actually blood sausages, which are pig intestines, that have been hollowed out, cleaned, and stuffed with mung bean, ground pork, and many other ingredients. Ninh Binh is also famous with their mountain goat dishes.
Came here to say yeah that's blood sausage. 😅 I personally LOVE the stuff! Sooo many countries and regions around the globe have their own iterations, as well. 👌
Okay - I've binge watched nearly all of your uploads, and I think I've got it. Yes, there are more slick, professionally produced travel videos with fancy transitions, gorgeous B-roll, epic drone shots - the whole 9. ***but*** what those UA-camrs lack is the down to Earth, personable, likeable qualities that you guys have. There's an intimate genuineness to your videos, and we the viewer feel like we actually know you. Those other travel channels have forgotten that aspect- perhaps in their quest to produce TV quality uploads. You guys keep it real, Yo. Thank you again for taking us along the journey & keep up the great work.
Great videos so far. Glad you’re trying communal food eating. That plate of food reminds me of other dishes where they will serve different types of lettuce and herbs. For example, deep fried rolls will come with lettuce and herbs- just grab a piece of lettuce add herbs and the spring roll and roll it into a hand roll then dip in the sauce. Banh Xeo the turmeric crispy pancake can be eaten that way too. A word on herbs, there are some interesting ones in Vietnam- basil, coriander and it’s saw tooth version. There is a slightly purple one that is parilla which is a species of Japanese shiso leaf and one that may pop up in the bunch that tastes like fish. Continued good journeys!

No, bun dau isn't wrapped. You just stack it like they did with the noodle, protein, and herbs, then dipped. Typically the braver will eat it with mam tom (shrimp paste that you mix with kunquat until it bubbles) then you dip it.

😂
I thought you're supposed to wrap that food in something? They didn't give you wrappers, like spring roll wraps or lettuce wraps?
No, bun dau isn't wrapped. You just stack it like they did with the noodle, protein, and herbs, then dipped. Typically the braver will eat it with mam tom (shrimp paste that you mix with kunquat until it bubbles) then you dip it.
@@doodahgurlie I had a meal with similar items and a whole bunch of herbs that we wrapped in spring roll wrappers after dipping in hot water. Best meal ever!
@@darrylk808 A lot of Viet meals are wrapped in herbs/veggies/noodles and dipped, though. Growing up, I ate banh xeo and always had problems with the filling falling out when my lettuce/green broke...so I started wrapping it all up in rice paper to keep everything intact. I didn't think to do this until I ate it at a family friend's home and then I was like, "Doh!" We eat fried spring rolls wrapped in lettuce/herbs/noodles and dipped, too....so then I started wrapping it all up in rice paper as well since I'm apparently not a refined Viet eater and had the same problem as with my banh xeo. LOL!
It’s not a must for this dish.
All depend on which bun dau mam tom place you go to.
Nice restaurant. They knew you guys are foreigners so they gave you vinegar fish sauce instead of fermented fish sauce (the one that you love it you can't eat these kind of foods without it, but if you hate if you really f*king hate it - But I knew some people can't eat fermented fish sauce at the beginning but they keep trying and one day they really love it now :D)
Had food poisoning after eating Banh Cha when I was there in Hanoi the week before.Felt better after lots of rest
Ah dang, sorry to hear that. We’ve had food poisoning four times in the last year 😅 It is just a fact of traveling and it comes up from time to time.
Ya can eat blood sausage? Its either you like it or hate it kind of food. A lot of foreigner cannot eat the blood sausage. I guess the fish sauce cancel the taste of it
It was very mild compared to other blood sausages we have had, even without the fish sauce 🙂
I'm glad that you guys didn't get knocked out by the "mam tom" dipping sauce smell =)
The owners probably made the right call and didn't give that to them. Even Viets have issues eating mam tom like that. 😂
