This podcast has been so good all Tour. I’ve quickly switched to waiting for JB2 over the move. Johan’s honest and educated takes on the racing has elevated the Tour coverage this year.
I’m with 100% with you on that. I’ve abandoned the move completely after this year’s coverage. Can’t really deal with listening to Lance and George anymore and 60% of the show being advertisements from sponsors.
The Move is total rubbish. This is the best TDF analysis on any media platform in my opinion. Johan brings a sophisticated international perspective that the US and even the UK analysts don’t bring. This year’s tour is almost a mirror image of last year with Jonas coming to the tour with reduced training schedule due to injury and a weaker team. Visma was ruthless in breaking Tadej down and he had to work through his own disaster on the Col de la Loze. Jonas wasn’t giving any gifts last year. My hope is that all 4 of the top guys come to next years Tour injury free and with full team support. That would be an epic tour.
Would love to see Jonas, Tadej, Roglic, and Remco healthy next Tour and with solid teams. Unfortunately, I doubt Roglic is still a contender if the other three are at their best and in good form.
hu hu what are you talking about, Pogacar as been the most idiot selfish on this tour yes he did take advantage of JONAS due to a very bad crash and Pogar did control all the tour never let anyone to win a stage now he as many enemies and a do hope he has a very bad crash next year before the tour then see how it will behave
Thank you so much for this show. It is the very best. This is the only Tour show I watch and recommend to everyone. Whatever agenda the guys on the other show have, I stopped watching it mid Tour. Pogacar would have gain more time if he wanted to attack Jonas the last 1-2km. Letting Jonas win would also make Jonas looks bad. Giving Jonas a chance to sprint for the stage was the gentleman thing to do. Pogacar was just a level above Jonas this year.
17:36 Pogacar is one of two people to win five mountain stages in one Grand Tour. The other cyclist, Gino Bartali, is vastly underrated. Bartali was leading the TDF in 1937 and had to withdraw after a terrible accident, that caused him to fall 10 feet off a bridge. Bartali won one TDF in 1938 (at 24), and won his second in 1948 (at 34) -- a ten year difference. But one must consider the fact that the TDF was suspended during World War II -- so Bartali did not get to race the TDF during, arguably, his prime racing years (25-31 ish yrs of age). But what he did during those years may very well surpass anything he did competing in cycling, saving many Jews from going to concentration camps in Nazi occupied Italy: ua-cam.com/video/TZjUH_BWJFQ/v-deo.html

Another little Tadej Pogacar stat: Aside from being beaten on the line at Milan-San Remo by Jasper Philipsen, when he almost certainly would have won if Philipsen didn't get a major assist from Mathieu van der Poel, Pogacar has won every race he has entered in 2024: Strade Bianche, the Tour of Catalonia, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, the Giro, and now almost certainly the Tour.
The best should win each race, period. However, if a leader has to conserve energy or there are other factors he must consider that lead to forfeiting a win, then so be it. But if those other factors are not at play, no one should want anyone other than the best that day to win.
If there is a win available in this race, you take it. Pog is putting down markers for next year, and years to come. No weakeness shown, just as it should be
If the rest cannot cope with Tadej that’s the rest problem…! You do better next time and train harder perhaps improve and compete…! Tadej was awesome and hope he wins ITT
@@wranglercycling6420 You clearly cared enough to write complete and utter nonsense… Both Remco and Vingegaard crashed in the spring, setting their training back substantially. Tadej was clearly the strongest rider this year and the very deserved champion. However, saying that his closest competitors should simply “train harder” is ridiculous, given the unfortunate circumstances of Remco’s and Vingegaard’s preparation. I hope we see all three riders back in prime condition next year - hopefully joined by Roglic. I can’t wait!
The Rider is an amazing book. Well written and pretty funny if you know anything about racing. Written by an author who also thought he would like to race bikes for a time. Old school racing.
36:37 Actually, two "taxable" horsepower. The car originally had 9hp (375cc engine) and went up over the years. The tax horsepower rating was not actual hp, but formula based on cylinder dimensions.
Hah so cool My Dad use to drive over the course and go up the climbs and tell Me how hard they were by the gears in car. Plus I remember in 93 phill ligget saying Isola 2000 could become the new Alpe d'Huez.
Yea, it makes sense that climbing the other side of a mountain could affect the category. I also thought categories were impacted by where the climb is placed in the race. For example, a climb late in a race might could be rated higher due to its late position. It's more grueling. Maybe a Category 1 race could be elevated to an HC if it's placed late in a race?
Hopefully Pogacar stays healthy and breaks all the records. Most tdf stage wins, tour wins, and inspires kids in countries everywhere to strive for excellence.

Question for Johan. As the most successful Belgian DS ever what advice would he give to Remco now? Remco now has found his benchmark AND he now knows where THE (Pogi) ultimate benchmark is. He clearly wants to win the league tour in the next five years and it’s clear what the biggest obstacle is. Does he go to Red Bull with the budget? Can he optimise his performance for another 0.3 watts per kilo? How should he handle the vicious Pog attacks? Conversely this year we saw Pogacar change coach and he is better regardless of misfortune to his three biggest competitors. His TT position is good but his head could get 2 inches lower (marginal yes) but Remco beat him by 12.3 seconds in TT one. Ultimately Pogacar is bigger and can push more total watts than Remco (he also pulled in a Remco attack on stage 9) so Remco’s landing strip for victory like Jonas is narrow. Does Johan think ASO’s route selection May ultimately affect le tour? Ie long TT re introduced. Finally, we now see at his best Jonas is five minutes back and fighting looking at Remco. Is the era 25-27 Pogi vs Remco with Jonas as a third musketeer?
Gifts are for Christmas. Never will he gift it. Did Visma ever think of gifting stages the last 2 tours? After winning all 3 grand tours? After almost beating their own teammate, Kuss, so Jonas or Primoz could win? I hope the cry babies keep crying about it. Take every soul you can, Tadej. The 🐐 💛
TBF Lance Armstrong won 4 mountain stages in 2004 if you include that legendary time trial in Alpe d'Huez, and gave one to Ivan Basso whose mother was suffering from cancer. Also back then there were often a little bit less mountain stages than in the last 10 years
Johan was not like this during the Vuelta with Jonas though. He wanted Jonas to gift Kuss the whole GT which he did in the end, I feel the double standard is strong here Johan is definately a Pogi and Remco fan over Jonas. He talked everyday during Vuelta23 about Jonas shouldnt take it from kuss and it was simply not fair etc, who got the jersey early due to an easy breakaway that wasnt contested in the early stages. And Remco bonked early in the race so there was no competition for Visma. Jonas was as dominant in that race as pogi was in this tdf. He was able to drop everyone at his liking. Except for the first 10 days where he just followed as he was sick. Imagine this was pogacar, he would have never dreamt of gifting a GT win to a teammate if he was clearly stronger.Johan wanted both Roglic and Jonas to not race and play their chance. Jonas in the end simply gave away his double to Kuss. While kuss was the third or 4rth strongest rider in that Vuelta. Last year when Jonas attacked there is a vast difference. Pogi sat on the wheel and attacked Jonas in the end in nearly all the stages last year. Pogi even though loosing the tour won all the stages they dueled in. The days Jonas won on there was breakaways taking the win beforehand. Now is it ok for pogi to take this win today, Yes!, but is it classy? NO! it just isnt. Would Jonas have done the same in his position with 4 wins on stages and secured yellow, NO. But they are different pogi is for viewers an entertainer, jonas is a hard worker with sportsmanship but also a quite guy.
Last year, Johan thought Jonas and Primoz should gift Sepp the Vuelta. A gift that would be repaid with interest, Johan said. How has that panned out? Most of the comments felt the same. How things have changed... He has a bias like most of you guys who suddenly are all about "the best man should win". Let me guess, a good cycling podcast re-affirms all the opinions you already have? I still think Johan is a good expert and listen to the podcast.
Yeah JB, you really need to stop trying the apologist routine for Lance and the participation trophy mindset. Hope you listened when Johan took your bogus premise and rejected it.
Coming to the last stage, question related to future and two American riders in particular (and about team Visma): To me Visma(Jumbo Visma) appeared to have very poor interpersonal environment, bordering on poisonous, my impression for 3-4 years and culminating in the last year's Vuelta. Would it be advisable for Kuss and Jorgenson to switch teams for their future (impacting future of American cycling)? I know that technical qualities in Visma are excellent BUT, I worry about their spirits being squashed. Any opinion? As to Citroen 2CV, important clarification: French car taxation system used "horsepower" designations not true to the actual car power. 2CV was just the lowest taxation bracket for lowest horsepower but not actually just 2hp, not that those cars had much more but one or couple of dozens hp depending on the year of release.
Stage 20 of 2023 was a complete differnt situation. Johan makes more and more mistakes over the last few month. Same with to confirm the Tadej statment, that its a real battle, cause Jonas is at 100%. Thats bs...only because he did good numbers, does mean shit. Everybody did better numbers then eer before and Jonas did not made that significant jump that others did. So to confirm this, is useless. For a man lie Johan, I would have listen do an analyse of Jonas sitting on his bike and so on. Its so different to last year.
This 2024 TdF is like Lance Armstrong TdF 2004. When Ivan Basso beat him going to La Mongie, Armstrong won 5 more stages later on. When Jonas beat Pogi going to Le Lioran, Pogi won 4 more stages. Maybe also TT tomorrow? Is there a coincidence?
JV has already admitted in interviews that he is pushing higher numbers than he was at the Tour last year and that these are his lifetime best performances.
@@paddyotoole2058 yes but he's also said he's two kg lighter this year because of the crash. So this probably is just the best weight for him and he hasn't reached his peak yet with this weight. Pogacar outputted the best numbers of his career by far in last years Tour just after his crash, and now he's improved so much in one year that he's now the greatest climber of all time.
Pogi is a couple yrs younger than yonas so hes still improving and has changed his coach yonas will be 28 next tour i dont see him improving like remco and pogi will @finite-automata
@@markmartin4793 IMO Pogi hasn't actually improved that much in terms of power output, UAE have alluded to this as well. Pogi has just lost 2-4 kg from last year which increases his watts per kg and makes him the greatest climber of all time. Jonas now has to do the same, he himself has said he's lost 2 kg and is now better than ever, now he needs to train to get his full power back.
@@finite-automatayou’re confusing matters. lifetime peak and season peak are two totally different things. Jonas is at 100% now at the TdF following his crash I.e. he has fully recovered. That does not mean that physiologically JV will be unable to improve as he gets older and next season produce even higher numbers. He very likely will. But that still does not mean that he is not operating at 100% of his present capacity now.

He has a bias like most of you guys who suddenly are all about "the best man should win". Let me guess, a good cycling podcast re-affirms all the opinions you already have?
I still think Johan is a good expert and listen to the podcast.
POGAČAR 2 GT THIS YEARS 42 ETAP 12 WINERS 1/4 ALL GRAND TOUR ETAPS 6 GIRO 6 TDF
Johan did you have a chat with the KIDS on the other show it looks like they had their sweet taken away today?
JB2 is way more better than The Move. L.A is always whining comparing all riders to what he done and the show is 60% ads and not cycling
I think every road cyclist would enjoy ‘The Rider’ by Tim Krabbe. It’s an old book now but that’s not important in the story he tells.
Renault 5 was known as a Goat
Like Man Utd are going to gift the FA Cup Final to Liverpool, cos, you know.
I forget, Why isnt Sepp Kuss in this years Tour?
Covid
@@LindyMacwink wink
2CV was just the lowest taxation bracket for lowest horsepower but not actually just 2hp, not that those cars had much more but one or couple of dozens hp depending on the year of release.
lol, your impression is way off
Many of us are rooting for Jonas but you never give away a grand tour stage do you ?
Come on you know well that jumbo is a dopint team !!!!!
Jonas is not and was not 100%
It’s absurd to suggest that
JV has already admitted in interviews that he is pushing higher numbers than he was at the Tour last year and that these are his lifetime best performances.
For me it is not diferent!!!!!💗💗💗
Wth is this let them win nonsense
Listen guys, your so-called GOAT POGI, was destroyed, demolished and humiliated by Vingegaard last year. So get down from your high horses man!!.....jeeeeez.
Johan Bruyneel provides the best cycling analysis on the internet. Not you, JB from Austin. You drank the Kool-Aid from the ridiculous, worst TdF coverage of Lance and crybaby George this year. The Move is entirely out of touch with modern cycling, including this year’s catastrophic NBC Tour coverage. The real JB is the only reason I haven’t completely abandoned The Move yet.
