Here it is, the new project Mini. Found on E-bay but I lost the auction only to later find the higher bidder messed the seller around so it was offered to the next highest bidder...... Me. The Mini is a 1997 Rover Cooper MPI and has been off the road in a garage since 2007! It's what some might call a barn find.
In this update I strip the seized rear brakes - Авто та транспорт
Rewatching this series Keith, giving me motivation doing my Coop rebuild! Keep up the great videos always a spirit boost 😊👍
Wish id documented my rebuild now, I have an 89 Flame, stripped to bare shell and blasted back to bare metal. Its away at the bodyshop now for a full new floor, wings, boot floor, door skins, all the usual corner panels etc, should have it back in a week or two all freshly painted. Meanwhile ive had all the running gear, subframes etc, blasted and re coated, re-assembled with new ball joints, nuts, bolts, you name it. Ive overhauled the wiring harness(s), rack, and all other engine ancillaries. Ive taken some really good info from your channel and applied to my project. For that i salute you sir, thank you.
Good advice to renew the breaks for safety sake and piece of mind
Great tip! spent ages struggling with the same problem. thanks
Hi Keith, stubborn bugga that drum hey, but you got it off pain free. And as you say...for the sake of the small cost, renewing the brakes is a must hey! Great video 😊
I started of on Miffi (my car) with the rear subframe back last december - this video would have saved me a couple of hours of work ;) I got my engine bay back together tonight and it looks alright -. but seeing Sprout makes a bit jealous. Marvelous job!!!
This was very well done, subscribed!
Nice video Keith that’s a really good tip to have cheers 👍
Nice work keith. Yeah I've used the tyre as a bigger lever method before usually works
seemed straight forward, but good info.. I'm down within the 2 month range of catching up with all your videos... (I'll get there)..
A sliding hammer would have done the job, this tool has amazing force to pull out stubborn pieces out. You can make one with some scrap steel, building re-bar, stick/Mig welder and a heavy sliding piece as the hammer.
The wheel cylinders, if they are still good, grease (to prevent rusting deeply) and store them maybe for feature use. Honing will clean them out. Brake fitting - especially the wheels side = is best left till the last in any restoration schedule. Thumbs up!!
Cheers. Brake cylinders were seized solid but only £8 each so not worth trying to repair. A slide hammer would have been very useful, thanks
You should use a jackstand
There is an Axle stand behind the jack, it's a yellow one if you look closely. I had most of the weight on the jack to stop me pulling it off the stand. I know it looks a bit dodgy but no part of my body was under the car while pulling it about. Appreciate the concern though.
Please please please use an axle stand 😀
There is a yellow axle stand in the background. Just not at the right height, but enough to stop it falling
Can't have a shiny drum and back plate without a subframe to match 🤔
Ssshhh don’t encourage him 🤫
Hi Keith, Can you no just adjust the brakes to loosen the brake shooes to get the drum off?
Both adjusters seized solid
Hi Keith, would disc brakes replacement be a safer option?
Overkill on a road mini, very little braking is done on the rear brake so discs are an expensive add on for track / race minis usually to save weight
looks very dangerous the way that car is rocking. in my opinion a second axle stand would stop that.no offence meant.

Adjusters were seized solid as well as the handbrake levers and wheel cylinders
