I have 18 songs with distrokid and I had NO IDEA that that means having to pay forever or they remove my music. Just that factor alone makes LANDR more worth it... Thank you so much for the video!
They will only leave your stuff up if you pay the one-time legacy fee. that fee is the only one that isn't recurring. So technically you don't *have* to pay forever for them to keep it up. But you DO have to pay something. which is already more than LANDR as they do this for you for free.
You will earn income from your streaming revenue on LANDR. So you're channel will remain unmonetized but because you can choose to release the song to an artist topic channel on UA-cam, LANDR will accrue this money for you in your LANDR account. Your money will come in there, not through UA-cam. So you can earn, it'll just be on LANDR.
this is an insanely well together breakdown man thank you so much, most videos only mention the subscription prices so showing that 5 year plan really opened my eyes.
You have an inspiring channel. I am slowly building a small home music studio to bring out my works. Thank you for the information you share with us viewers.
I am new to this channel and this is so overwhelming but this gentleman seems to know so much. I am very impressed with the two videos I’ve seen so far and decided to subscribe to this channel.
Thanks for sharing. In the back of my mind I've considered switching and this kinda confirms I should. Distrokid is better than CD Baby which I started with years ago but LANDR looks like the longer term play now
I'll also say that LANDR offers way more creative tools for musicians to use which is a big reason why I've been with them even when I was still using distrokid.
Great video! Curious if you know anything about this: I'm planning to migrate my releases from Distrokid to LANDR. I have one release, a joint single with another artist, with over half a million streams, he also uses Distrokid. Do you know if migrating that single might screw with things on the other artist's end? The single was "distributed" from my account, so when I inevitably deactivate my Distrokid account, I'm worried it'll pull the song down on his artist profile or screw with his royalties. Appreciate any advice!
your play count and stats won't be effected but I am not sure about how the royalties work. I know you can royalty share on LANDR but I'm unsure if you'd need to just re-establish who's getting the share of what on their end. As far as it pulling the song down on his profile, it won't pull the song from streaming platforms. That all stays the same so long as you make sure you do the transfer first and then delete on Distrokid's end. You may want to reach out to LANDR or have a look on their website for more clarification on this.
I just keep making new accounts. And recently they've been getting deleted. Do you know what it feels like to lose entire moments of your life? I do. This man is trying to save your legacy
I'm not too sure, they may be something you'll want to reach out to them about. I am still in the process of getting my releases switched over (I haven't started yet).
Ditto has it's own set of features that may be useful to you. They have music publishing and sync licensing. Ditto also will not keep your music up if you cancel your subscription. It says on their site that while the takedown is not immediate because of the volume of music they process everyday, it will still happen at some point in the future.
6:33 I realized this after releasing my 5th instrumental album, right when the annual bill became due. After doing the math, I decided to pull all of my music from Distrokid.
Thank you! To release my first single and EP, would you recommend cd baby or landr? I just saw your other video recommending cd baby, maybe for the first time without budget its better, also is your discount code for that still active?
Was wondering which music app do you use to record your music or which would you prefer? I was using GarageBand at one point then went to BandLab but what do you use if you don’t mind sharing trying to better my music
Hi, brother can you say which one is best to distribute my music , with low budget with geniune platform to distribute music .... ? Waiting for your reply 😊❤
Do you have any experience with the "migrate release" function in Landr? I should have watched this a day earlier 😩 Released a track yesterday after not releasing any music for years. I really need to switch. Distrokid is a total rip off it's ridiculous!!
What currency does Landr pay out in? I was using Amuse and they pay out in AUD so I was losing. If Landr pays out in USD then it sounds like the best way to go.
I’ve also used CD Baby, Ditto Music I believe and Tunecore. All three have similar features like publishing options and sync licensing pitching. Different price points. Tunecore & Ditto are subscription based. CD Baby is pay per release. My thoughts are that LANDR is still the choice for me. I can’t speak for anyone else. I just like everything they offer, including all of the musical plugins and instruments for production. None of the others offer such things. If you want to pay per release, use CD Baby or even I think Tunecore has an option for that too. If you want subscription, any of these will do. Just depends on how much you’re willing to pay, what additional features you want, and whether or not you care that they’ll take ur music down if you cancel.
I made a video about CD Baby and distributed one of my singles with them. They have a different pay model (it's not by subscription but by project) which LANDR also has the option for if you don't want to join a subscription plan. CD Baby has a few other features as well I'd say go check out my video explaining them here: ua-cam.com/video/eE8xTpshZBM/v-deo.html
LANDR does not collect mechanical royalties. What you’re referring to is LANDR’s $15 cover song charge. They provide you with a mechanical license so you can distribute a cover song for $15.
As a creative person, I highly disagree. There is a time and place for both entertainment and educational. And often times in my case, both simultaneously.
@@IAMLXGEND I could have stated that better. I was responding to something you said in the video, apologizing for the video not being entertaining, but I learned something today and that more than makes up for the video not being entertaining. Too bad we can't give 2 thumbs up. LOL
I'm on that Landr Pro 149 Unlimited everything, so why they LIMITING my album to Next month only after 3 albums ?? " • Oops! You've reached our monthly fair usage limit. Please wait until next month to submit more releases. "
@AFLive that’s not including however many tracks you were trying to release currently. So if your next project(s) had more than 12 songs then you would’ve crossed that threshold. It is entirely your responsibility to read the policy and terms of service BEFORE paying for the subscription you’re getting yourself into so that you are aware of these “rules” in place.
@@IAMLXGEND We'll see what they say , cause I'm reading it's under their discretion. . and I left them a Nice snapshot where it says UNLIMITED DISTRIBUTION. don't put that if that's not the case, I never had that problem with Distrokid. Does LANDR publish to all the same streaming services that Distrokid does? I.e., do you get the same thing for your money with LANDR? Also, how does CDBABY compare?
1. Yes 2. Idk what you mean by “same thing for your money”. If you mean do you get paid the same, yes. Because they don’t dictate how much you earn. Streaming platforms do. 3. CD Baby is good if you want publishing & sync options and don’t want to pay monthly or yearly. As they only offer pay-per-release options.

You can easily move your catalog to LANDR 🤷🏻♂️ And than delete it from Distrokid. But they can't remove or free your music for 1 year after release.
