Secrets of Subharmonics and Overtones REVEALED! Vocal Analysis of Bass Singer: Geoff Castellucci
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 тра 2024
- In this video, I react to bass legend Geoff Castellucci (x4) performing his Low Bass Singer cover of "Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold" from The Hobbit. I analyse his earth shattering performance, explain and demonstrate his vocal techniques and ultimately tell you what I think made it so great. I simply cannot get enough of this VoicePlay superhero. It was SO much fun analysing his voice with VoceVista for even deeper voicey nerdery.

When Geoff sings low, the ladies answer the call.
I'm not so sure, I can hit almost all those notes, but my wife just looks at me funny when I practice like I'm nuts. Like yeah, whatever. 😄
@@nathanwahl9224 I suspect the difference is hitting the note and being Geoff.
@@nathanwahl9224 you have just proven the point, for you have a wife, which means that a lady has answered the call of the low note
And gentlemen give stank face
@@nathanwahl9224 Same. My wife doesn't like bass singers and often said she wished I were a tenor before I just stopped singing around her entirely. I feel you.
I see Lolli and Geoff, I click. And I have never been disappointed in the outcome.
Ditto!
Ah, would have wished this to be "I see fire" instead, which is the same "Dwarves" but a couple of years of vocal development and production quality increases later.
Its awesome.
I mean, this one is awesome too, and arguably a song I like more ... but "I see fire" is even better than that.
The song she went with is more famous and recognizable. The other one is for afficionadoes who can appreciate the finer points. A great choice for a follow up.
Very interesting. He has recorded B0 twice (Halo and Valhalla Calling with Voiceplay). What makes Geoff unique to me is the beautiful timbre of his voice - very pleasant to listen to. Thank you for doing this! Hope there is more Geoff and/or VP soon 😉🌹🕊.
Yes yes this! There's honey in that voice, not just bass.
Your content was already heads above other vocal analysts, but now you've got vowel charts and hertz analyses?! Incredible!
Seeing nerds, nerds out make my own inner nerd nerd out.
Its makes me a happy nerd.
Fascinating to watch you melt down while listening to Geoff. Thank you for explaining how Geoff creates these sounds which are uniquely his.
"goaty Geoff" 🐐
Not 'goaty', I think, but 'goatee.'. The beard, you know. 😉
It's going to totally, absolutely blow your mind when you view Geoff's "I see Fire". Remember: hydrate.
Did she not already do it?
Loved all the vocal layers from you and Geoff! Thanks again for your analysis!
I love when people can't help but smile because it hits so good.
So if this song did this much effect on you, you've got to do Jeff "i see fire" cover, it is his best one, and became one of my favorite and most emotional song ever. And an amazing display of his range, emotions, harmonies, arrangements.
Think she did that one ages ago
A follow-up video of I See Fire would be great. There are a few more solos for the Geoff with the higher register as well as some epic Geoff-quakes.
👹👹👹🎼 .. I have been waiting for this reaction for some time Lolli. It has been destined to happen , and you were destined to amaze us. The many expressions in your eyes were so real , and so invested. You don't hold back... you really allow the music and exceptional vocals to get under skin. Thanks for making my day. Geoff slays this .. I have watched it many times, and I still get goosebumps. Awesome !!!!!!!!!!🎼🎼👹👹👹
There is a certain ASMR quality to his voice.
His new mini of trust in me from Disney’s jungle book is pure ASMR to me. It’s all very low tones and that breathy lion purr sound. It usually knocks me out within 15 minutes and I’m an insomniac.
This used to be the one I would use to go to sleep to because it’s so soothing and gentle in a very very deep voice kind of way. Depending on how restless I am I listen to one of those two or a playlist that I have that has some of his really soothing deep sounds without a lot of high notes. Another good one is I put a spell on you, another mini.
I've listened to this performance by "Laryngeal Legend" Geoff so many times. I've also listened to a fair number of analyses and still/always you bring something new to notice and learn. TY! I'm pretty sure I could listen to Geoff sing this on loop for the rest of my life. 😅❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
The oracle card is a bit funny, because most of Geoff's moments of really pushing his boundaries come from Layne arrangements. "Layne doesn't care what's comfortable or possible" but when Layne asks for the impossible Geoff makes it possible anyhow.
Geoff is a beast xx
l read The Hobbit as a near-teen back in the early 70's. l never imagined this song as a dirge.
agreed, grew up on the Rankin & Bass animation of The Hobbit, never imagined that i'd be hearing this song done in this way, and i downright love it for that.
@techauthor324 I'm a bit surprised. How did you think it would be? I did 'hear' it as a dirge in my mind, being about a 'long-forgotten home'.
Love to listen to Geoff, but you had me at "visible biceps". That remark was a singularity, thanks!
Hi, I would love to see you analyze VoicePlay again. I think I would choose The Little Mermaid Medley! Or Wicked Medley. Or Hoist the Colours. Please 🙏🏻
Lolli is a goddess of sound waves and emotional expression in human form. Always a pleasure!
I'm not sure what is more impressive Geoff's low sub harmonics or the time Lolli spends to make and edit a video about them.
Thanks for all the additional effort you do with vocal demos...it really adds to the already entertaining cascade of Lolli-ness!
I can do the low notes but can't get the resonance/volume sometimes. Great video as always 👍
So fun to see you break down Geoff's lows. Love the way you see his music. Geoff and you = Brilliant. More please. Jacks Lament is an incredible work and super theatrical.
This is actually the video that introduced me to Geoff Castellucci, which, in turn, led me to later discover VoicePlay
Thank you so much for the reaction & analysis❤
Please do more of Voiceplay and Geoff🙏🏼
We missed you.
Well, now that you've done THIS, you will HAVE to go through the second episode of the Dwarves saga: "I see fire". Now, this one has been my own "introduction" to Geoff's solo work, and has been my favourite since... Until "I see fire" was released. And now there's also "Unshaken", which I believe you'd love. 😁
Enjoyed your reactions and vocal analysis a lot. And I'm SO curious to watch you listen to the very opening of "I see fire", I'm sure it'll be interesting 😁.
See you next time!
His version of "way on down" by Elvis names his Geoffs. He is truly one of the best in the world at singing that low.
You're a gem! Thanks!
Gotta love a good geoffquake 😁💜💜
your reactions are the best on the internet. I don't know why, but they just make smile at the end of a hard day at work. thank you.
I love your reaction, energy and in-depth analysis. Well done!
Hello gorgeous! It looks like you haven't checked out Voiceplay's cover of Hellfire yet. Please, please do give it a listen as I know you will be delighted by it. Also, I have to keep pitching for Peter Hollens. He's got such a beautiful voice and I'm sure you will love him as well. 💞🧚♀️
First dwarf song from the first Hobbit movie. He said he was able to get the same four dwarfs as they just happened to be available. To come back and do a song from the second Hobbit movie. I See Fire.
Thank you Lolli. This amazingly detailed and precise analysis of Geoff Castelluci's work keeps you in the number one spot of UA-cam vocal coach reactions. Brilliant work from you and Geoff!
Gorgeous is the motte juste.
This very video was my very first introduction to the phenomenon of YT and music videos.
One click that changed my life.
You are so wonderful to watch and listen to, gorgeous 😉👏👏👏🤗🩷
more Geoff please 😁
Love you Lolli. Love Geoff! This reaction makes my day
I've been watching this channel for a while now and I'm glad I am by myself because every time Lolli begins her videos with "hello gorgeous!" I constantly catch myself saying "Ha! Look who's talking! If someone else were here they might think I'm crazy.
The harmonies in this song light a fire in my Eburone heart, every time...
Geoff is amazing, and your reaction and analysis are equally amazing.
You are REALLY good! This (before today) was one of my LEAST favorite Geoff songs. Clearly, I just didn't know what to listen for. Your outstanding analysis AND demonstrations opened my eyes and ears WIDE!! You were already among my favorite reactors.... but you got bumped up a few notches with this one! Fantastic! Thank you!
Now's time for the sequel! I SEE FIRE! :D
Love that you have the Roland piano that has that voice setting. Had lots of fun playing classical music with it :D
Living Colour please Lolli! "This Is The Life" and "Cult Of Personality" are my favourites, but "Love Rears Its Ugly Head" really shows off Corey Glover's voice - which is the vocal equivalent of an expensive whiskey - smooth & rich but with a depth and kick to it. Well, that's my analogy - you'll have your own after listening to him. Thanks! Big fan of your channel and voice!
anyone else dreaming of a Geoff and Diana Ankudiniova colab, image the frequency fun they could produce together!? I love your reactions gorgeous
That software (and your imitation of it) are giving me strong "My Fair Lady" vibes.
This reaction and breakdown is even more excellent than your normal amazing. Best one yet!
If you like bass choir singing adventure fantasy then you'll love Hoist the Colours The Bass Singers on the Bobby Bass channel.
Yay! I've waited 2+ years for this reaction and the lovely, luscious Lolli has delivered yet again. Your low notes are a wonderful treat as well. Simply amazing love. You never disappoint because you are the best🥰🥰🥰
Once again, Lolli, you've delivered a reaction & analysis that is an absolute joy to watch. Through your reactions, it's as if I'm hearing this song for the first time again. And to top it off, your own vocalisations to illustrate what you mean are gorgeous.
I can't decide which I like best. (Do you see what I did there?)
A couple of questions for you, if I may beg your indulgence: will you be releasing an album some time? I'd love to have I Can't Decide and any other songs you'd care to record with that level of passion and excitement as a CD some day.
There are several singers I'd like to recommend, and please forgive me if you've already recorded reactions to them - Geoff Tate of Queensryche (Take Hold of the Flame, Silent Lucidity, Empire or anything from Operation: Mindcrime); Michael Kiske of Helloween (Keeper of the Seven Keys, Future World or The Tale That Wasn't Right); and Fish (yes, it was a nickname, but it became his stage name, and I can never remember his real name) of Marillion (Grendel would be perfect, but any of Script For A Jester's Tear, The Web, Forgotten Sons, Emerald Lies, Fugazi, Chelsea Monday, Pseudo Silk Kimono or Sugar Mice would be great).
Ah, I needed this bit of loveliness!! Best reactor on the web and best bass singer on the web!! That was truly a delightful use of my 18:36 minutes. Smiles galore watching this reaction. ☺
Thank you for the affirmation
LOVE LOVE LOVE your reactions!! They make me so happy! And you are so freaking talented it blows my mind!!
So good!!! I love it when the bass boys get the recognition they deserve. Keep up the amazing work Loli you’re the best
It's funny, because the 3 Geoff's are dressed as Thorin Oakenshield, his nephew Fili, and the cheery Bofur. Hehe, I think it's great that Geoff decided to dress up as them, to be honest. Bofur's one of my favorite dwarf's in the movie 😆.
Great analysis Lollie!! Thank you for creating and sharing this video with the rest of us.
Please react to Geoff's cover of "I See Fire".
This was so much fun ! Stay real and know that we all love ya !
What also gets me besides the incredible richness of his voice is his pitch. Look how straight those lines are on those longer low notes!!! Pretty good control when just 6 or 7 Hz can put you onto another note! I'm not so sure pitch correction even works that low, a 50Hz note doesn't provide a lot of data for it to work on.
where the limit goes, I don't know, but Geoff has said that pitch correction doesn't work on his lowest notes. where exactly that line goes, I'm not sure though
"Luscious low bodacious bass." You nailed it.
Thanks loli great as always. You all agree
Awesome reaction and analysis! Keep 'em coming!
My favorite creator and my favorite reactor. This is one of my favorite songs from Geoff. I have been greatly anticipating this for some time.
In no way did it disappoint 🙂
You're the best. And I sure do love it when you sing while demonstrating. You're amazing.
SO profound !!! “If you don’t drop something, how can it fall !” 😃. Love it !! 🥰 🩷
Thanks Lolli 😊
Lolli my dear, you are a pure delight! I could listen to you expound on Geoff for hours (or anything, really, the phone book, old parts catalogs, stereo instructions, doesn't matter)....
You are fantastic :) Thanks for the entertaining and informative analysis.
I LOVE your analyses! So rich in musical details and so sweet and funny
I love these deep lower frequencies being an alto myself. I wish people had more appreciation for music in this domain. Thank you for your expertise, how exciting.
♥️🌹🌄
I will watch anything by Geoff... Thanks! Nice analysis!
Now you’re adding technology to analyze the frequency of the notes!?! You’re like a MUSIC WIZARD SCIENTIST and I love it! 😊
I think with his future addition of I See Fire shows us so much more range that this talented man can bring. That song hits me in the feelings in the best way.
I really enjoy how you tackle songs with a very Detailed & Technical explanation covering both Musical Theory & Real World Application!! A lot of other Vocal Analysis Channels often use non-technical terms like "velvety", "soothing", "awesome", etc. etc. which are all somewhat accurate but they do very little in the way of explaining the breakdown of the Technical or Musical Theory incorporated in the voices and the instrumentals of a Song! That is why I very often go to your channel (and Wings of Pegasus and one other) for in-depth analysis and easy to understand explanations! THANKS!!
13:25 was wild! To hear that low note from her!? I am beyond impressed!
You are SUCH a nerd when it comes to music, I'm a male singer who can't read music and has no formal training, hell I never made it through what I believe you call primary school. I am mesmerized by it, thank you very much for the break downs, and making formal knowledge understandable on a practical level, it's so hard to find such a thing when it comes to some of the more advanced stuff, especially anything specific, and it's all so much that it can be overwhelming sometimes. So thank you, graciously, new sub. Always wanted a fairy voice mother, had no idea yall actually came with the wizard knowledge, the accent, and all the bells and whistles too.
I want ACAPELLA Lolli, the sound would be mind meltingly fantastic..❤❤❤
SWEETEST FAIRY I just watched the premiere of Geoff, I enjoyed it very much I knew you would love it. And the break down was informative like only you do,, I had a great time watching. LOVE YOU MUCH❤❤❤❤
You just watched the premiere of a years old video? Can I have a ride in your time machine?
Its nice to see Lolli use hi-tek analysis. ❤❤
Oh, Geoff, Jeffrey and the others will have a good laugh at the character analysis!
Excellent work!
Orville Peck - Let Me Drown (Live in Nashville) !! 🎉😋
Love this editing
It's incredible to be both so informational AND entertaining. All the qualities of a great teacher are present. The costume analysis is just an added little treat :)
F-in Elle... you special milady. Break it down! The joy is contagious 😊
I have listened to this countless times. It has been my go-to when I needed to settle down and go to sleep. It’s slow, sonorous, and so soothing (how’s that for alliteration?😂) You pointed out so many things that I had never noticed. I don’t have musical training and I have a slight auditory processing problem so it really helps to have someone stop and point out something like you have.
I appreciate that you pointed out not only the singing but all of the music background and the sound effects. He is, in addition to everything else, a master storyteller and those effects help tell that story.
He did follow this up with I See Fire from Desolation of Smaug where the dwarves appear again. In I See Fire, each of the Geoff’s gets to sing which really shows off his range. And Babyface Geoff, as you call him😊, does not have the deepest voice in that one. It is Thorin Oakenshield with the big fur coat that drops the deepest notes.
If you’re just after really really deep bass notes, check out his cover of Unshaken. You will be shaken - I guarantee it! I don’t have musical training but several people have stated that he has dropped a number of G1’s in a variety of styles.
I See Fire, you will love it. Have a beautiful week ahead. And, would love to watch your reaction to VP's Hall of the Mountain King, that would be a lot of giggling.
Great fun as usual! Loved the analysis, and Carpet Shoulder Geoff talking about Go-To Geoff was priceless!😅😅😅
There's a quote in one of the Game of Thrones books. A man's voice was described as "honey poured over thunder". That is the perfect way to describe Geoff's voice.
Gorgeous, people normally call me something completely different!
Is it even possible to watch a Lolly video without developing a crush??? I don’t think so. 😊
Nope, no chance at all. The gorgeous, green-eyed, ginger has us under her spell.
It's not that we are unaware, it's that, like a child, we desire our Lolli everyday.
You have, sometimes very funny reactions, but most of all very professional reactions to what evet you reaveal whit your knowledge! Not sure if I mentiond that before..🤔 but very happy to follow your channel caused theese reasons. You, and two other gingers are the best to disseminate how vocals actually works. I`m reffering to the "carismatic voice" from U.S, and the Australian,, Julia,, Ooooh, give me a moment ... Nylon/Nilon. or close .. getting older is not goood for your memory , haha🤭. Please keep up your great reactions to music, I and hopefully all other who are lucky to listen/follow is very thankfull for what you do! Best of wishes from Norway, have a excellent weekend 💃🥳
Jennifer Glatzhofer is also very good. Not as technical but as a non trained person I get a lot out of her analyses. She also tries to hit those low bass notes which is often hilarious.
Lolli, thanks so much for your always incredible reactions and analysis! You are just the best!
I feel like at some point he must have shaken a filling loose with that sound.
IM SO GLAD SHE TALKED ABOUT OVERTONES AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Lolli, a fantastic analysis as always, full of great humor, enthusiasm, and musical geekery. And that beautiful singing of yours! I absolutely loved the spectral analysis!! I suggest doing more of that in the future. Question - at 6:26 - isn't that the 3rd in the bass instead of the 5th?
Woo hoo! Thank you, thank you.
as a fan of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, Over The Misty Mountains is my favorite offering from Geoff, he truly would've made the Mines of Moria echo like only a Dwarf could.
Great reaction, thank you!
That card was so needed today
