@@TheOctomasprimeROMs are pretty easy, if your trying to play any system that had discs not game carts you need to convert the Rom into an iso file through something like 7zip if you don't want to chance it with your steam deck almost every single android phone would be a good device to practice on but as of where you get ROMs and stuff I hate to be that guy but I don't want to say because as small as the chance is I don't want any legal issues my way, that's why most creators will never show how you get the games just the emulators
every emudeck tutorial are too scare to show the bios and roms part, all they do is "i already have my games/roms so...", no one dare to discuss it why bother for the tutorial guide when all you can say about roms are "do your reseach with my hint" something like that.
Getting an emulator installed and usable is totally different than getting roms. If you need to know how to get roms you would need to do a lot of research as every system has a different way of doing it.

Ok so i have an ambernic gaming device, the one that looks like a game boy advance sp, it comes with games preinstalled in a micro sd card, can i use that same micro sd card from the ambernic device on my steamdeck with the emulations that this video has shown??.

You will need to do a lot of research spasidic to the system you want to dump your games into a rom. Don't watch videos on how to set up emulators look up how to convert your snes cartridge game to a rom or whatever you're trying to do. It's complex and specific to every system that's why no one is showing that in a video about installing emulators. Does that make sense?

Clicking the EmuDeck.desktop.download does nothing for me. It just opens a text editor. No option to open extract or cancel. Am I missing a program or something to run this? I cannot for the life of me find anything anywhere saying what I am missing.
Hey yo! Hopefully you have solved this already, but i was having the same issue. So first, i used Chrome to download it, probably doesn't matter but I'm just saying. At the top right where chrome downloads go, when i would click the download and open it, it would just open text files! After a while of googling and experimenting i figured it out - using my finger i clicked the download and kept it held down until a menu popped up saying 'open file location' or something. Went to file location and did the same thing there, held my finger on it for a few seconds and finally that menu with "execute" as an option popped up!
No other computer needed. This was all dont in the video on my steam deck. There is no need for another computer the deck is a computer. This was done in Steam OS desktop mode.

inside of the individual emulators you have to tweek all the settings and some games just don't emulate correctly or you need mods for the specific game. The best thing to do is google the specific game or even better get on the discord and ask around.
it really depends on the emulator and game.. typically if you have issues with a game i would look up the best settings for that individual game because it could be different for another game.

It's probably just formatted in a type that won't be recognized on your laptop you could try formatting it on the desktop steam deck to a more universal format and try that.
You just drag your roms from wherever you have them into the folders that emudeck created so if you have snes roms on an external hard drive drag them into the newly created snes folder on your steam deck
when I go into Steam Rom Manager, in the preview section it only displays the various emulators but no games so I can't get any game to show on Steam it's weird because I did get it to work twice before with Silent Hill 1 & 3 but now it just won't show the games at all
hmm you should be able to manage all the roms in emu deck and you can go through one by one selecting what you want and the art you want to show in steam.
Just move the downloaded file "EmuDeck.desktop" to the desktop (not shortcut, the file itself), and double click (run) it from there, in linux based systems this is usually the case.
You need to download the roms and BIOS's from a separate location online. The ROMS need the BIOS's to run. There are websites that you can get this stuff on. It's not super intuitive, but for legal reasons this youtube video can't give a guide on that. Just start google for whatever game ROM you want and the BIOS and you'll get results.

Fuck I hate Retroarch. Their controller mapping shit is so cryptic and insane. I've had to uninstall and reinstall this shit like 5 times now because trying to make various controllers work fucked the mappings up so bad it actually broke the physical steam deck controls and made it impossible to invoke the menus to roll back the changes.
@@nophacetech It breaks my heart becausae the SD OLED is PERFECT for retro emulation. It's the smoothes I've ever seen Genesis emulators run and they look gorgeous on that screen. My inner 10 year old is overwhelmed with glee at seeing Genesis games on a handheld like that but not being able to use the proper controller and save states is killing me. I guess I'm just asking too much.

When I click on the installation, instead of showing a message to execute it, it takes me to some kind of console named Kate or something.

You just skim over the most important part about getting the right ROMs in the correct folder.. terrible guide
