What a beautiful plant. I remember when you got it and put it in the cookie jar. It really took off! I admit I was so anxious watching you try to get it in the new container. Future you can cut that container to get it out if you have to. You can hunt for a better solution while it's outgrowing this one! I am sure there is one!
Thanks so much for this info, I just recently ordered one from Ecuagenera waiting for it to come. I knew I would need a jar, I have one for a small plant will have to get a larger one later. I started not to buy it because of the high humidity it needs. Yours is beautiful.
Thank you so much! You will be totally fine with it. I also got mine from Ecuagenera and they actually ship pretty well since they have such thick leaves. Tag me in pics on Instagram, I would love to see your progress!
You do such a good job of these plant tasks, especially because you're filming it at the same time! I don't know how you do it. at least with this plastic one, you can cut it open next time you upsize
Thank you! It can be tough but I think it’s worth it. You’re right, I am going to have to cut it out of this plastic jar eventually. Hopefully I have space for a cabinet or terrarium for it soon so that I can move it again next year!
Such a pretty plant! Have you thought about one of small ikea Baggebo cabinets? You can line all of the inside with clear sticky vinyl to keep in the humidity. That way you can easily access it to water it etc. x
Naw, the jar situation is pretty much good to go, no DIY or alterations needed 🪴❤️. I Filmed this a while ago and the new leaf is huge now. I should post an update.
You could also plant it in a terrarium. Just swap the mesh lid with some plexiglass or something to keep the humidity and airflow out. But once it outgrows that new jar haha. There's some big exoterras that look clean and nice 😊
You have to keep it 100% sealed though… I don’t have experience with aquariums but I’ve never seen one that’s fully sealed and again they can unfortunately be really expensive and take up a lot of space. The jar is a great solution because it’s cost effective and can easily be sealed. The big one I used here was only $20. Someday I would love to do a big ikea cabinet that’s rock work and a mister or a water feature but I don’t have the space yet. Of course if you have something like an exoterra or aquarium handy, then that could totally work too! Just need basically zero air flow.
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet You can totally seal an aquarium. It's cheaper per volume than a jar, you can easily make one diy and with a square front you look at your plant without light bending light.
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet Petco has sales on aquariums all the time. Right now theres a 50% sale- you can get a 20 gallon tall for 28$. They sell glass hinged tops for less than 20$ too (or saranwrap works if the top wont be seen). I have a few that i"ve turned into paludariums. I promise you'll prefer it to the jar. You can plant under the splendidum too.
I think terrariums are awesome but so many plants have issues with lack of air flow! I may need take a second look into corrugated cloud forest plants now. I always avoided them because of their reputation.
To elaborate, I know you can include air flow in terrariums but I’m so lazy with any plant inside a container that I definitely prefer the set it and forget it method. 😂
Same! Set it and forget it is ideal to be honest. I don’t know about all cloud forest corrugated plants needing airflow but splendidum does now. Eventually I would love to have a big cabinet with rock work and misters and everything where this plant can get huge.
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet ye true enough, would have a light in it though.. you may get an octagonal one second hand they usually much cheaper than an acrylic cylinder
If you have the space for it, an exoterra is a good option. You can sometimes find deals on them in fb groups or on sale at pet stores. A lot more expensive than a jar but wouldn’t outgrow it as fast. Eventually I want to put mine in a rudsta narrow.
This plant didn't need additional substrate at all. The new substrate has reduced the space in the new jar which at this stage of this plant is critical.
Very fair! I used to feel the same way but lately I’ve been trying out more humidity vessel type setups and I’ve got to say they can be really fun and open up lots of options to keep plants I never would have thought I’d be interested in. Hoping to have a fully rock-scaped cabinet or greenhouse at some point 😊
Idk about better… it might have worked but I knew the plant would survive in it 100% enclosed but didn’t know if a dome wouldn’t be enclosed enough. I had one die in a grow tent one time, they are very persnickety. Went with what I knew would work. It would have been 100% easier to get out of it that way though.
Lots of people! Did you ever see that guy who put plants in huge glass bottle and sealed it up. They've lasted 50 years in there! Plants in a jar are pretty darned cool.
I just ordered a Splendidum. I’m so excited!
Nice!!!!
Wow! That watering every couple of months is right up my alley!😄😄
Seriously!

It’s thank to you that I have managed to save my Splendidum and it’s now growing well, so thank you 😊
I’m so glad to hear that!

this is the thing that rocks for me. thanks for sharing knowledge

Exoterras are so expensive though… some of them cost as much as ikea cabinets. Lol, that’s a problem for future me 🤣
Or just an aquarium.

It's gorgeous! So cool!
Thank you so much!
I went to the good will and bougth lots of glass container u should check them out
That’s a good idea for next time
Could you make a larger enclosure with glue and cut plexiglass. A square or rectangle shape custom cut to your specific size.🌿🪴

I can’t with this plant 🙈 it reminds me too much of chinese cabbage!😂
Column aquarium 😉
That sounds expensive but I’m sure it would work!

Maybe someday!
What about getting one of those large terrarium orbs like the one harli g has?
Way more expensive and way too small
@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet 😬nvm then, back to the drawing board.

Yeah, the little leaf got pretty big and now the plant is blooming and pushing another leaf!
This plant didn't need additional substrate at all. The new substrate has reduced the space in the new jar which at this stage of this plant is critical.
I mean this happened a year ago and the plant is fine so don’t worry it all worked out in the end 👍🏻
How do they survive in nature if they don’t like airflow? In caves?
Ivan from Ecuagenera told me that they grow around streams in the Choco region of the Amazon. It’s like the most reliably humid place on earth.
If it can’t just be out in my house or my plant room with a fan/grow lights and between 55 to 70% humidity then I could never get or want this plant.

just buy 2 and cut the tops to the largest width, tape them togethet !
Why I feel it gonna outgrow this in about week 😂 8:47
It’s been a few months and it’s fine so there haha
Ohhh shiiiiiiiii!
Now you can go get that splendidum you’ve been wanting, you’re welcome!
Wouldn’t it be better to have used this plastic tub as a dome instead???

Who wants a plant in a jar
People who want a cheap solution to keeping this plant alive.
Lots of people! Did you ever see that guy who put plants in huge glass bottle and sealed it up. They've lasted 50 years in there! Plants in a jar are pretty darned cool.
Especially if you find a really cool looking one!
Did you really ask who likes growing plants in terrariums? Because that’s basically what a jar is…
No way please help
