Lee Sklar - the ultimate baller! No pedals. No effects. Let the people doing house go with what they like.
A buddy toured with Tom Jones. He had multiple horn cases in one road box, and they were sliding around in the road box a bit. Needed padding. So he gathered panties thrown onstage for a week or do, laundered them (!), and used them as padding in the case for years! 🤣
Thank you, Leland!
I'll bet you could play with a galvanized tub, cut off broom stick and a string and still sound great.🤣
We had a bass like that when I was a kid! I learned to play it as soon as I was tall enough.
@@RockandRollWoman , I worked at a club in the late 1970s that had a jug band play there once a week, and the bass player did indeed play a washtub bass!
@@goodun2974 Ha! I've only seen them in family jam bands.
I’d throw my socks and shirts in there , save on personnel luggage 😂
A lot of what is gutter punk bands use washtub basses. "Daysndayz", "left over crack" and so on.. it's like the norm for these style of genre..
As an engineer, I approve of this simple yet functional tour rig, although I was expecting to see a fretless in there somewhere too.
Nothing worse (From an engineers perspective) when an overly complicated tour rig causes problems and delays, as they so often do.
It's very very clear that your roots are in session playing, where there is no time for nonsense 🤡.
It's also clear that anyone with such a simple rig is not hiding behind crutches... Cracking stuff Leland 👍
Reminds me of what my dad would say about all the new gadgets in cars, "more sht to break down." Keeping it simple gives you so much less to have to worry about sht breaking in front of thousands! Love the simplicity of it.
It's so satisfying (and somewhat sobering 🤣) to see your tour rig - simplicity at its finest, and yet versatile enough to cover all those bands!
You're a treasure Lee 😎🙏
Have fun on the road!
I imagine the crew appreciates your gear selection. Thanks❤️👍❤️👍
yeeeaaah, they must absolutely be "in love with lee" Ooo, nice title for something!
Hi Leland , That’s so nicely organised! One of the things I’ve often wondered…How much gear do folks take on tour? Think I mentioned ,I had been in Antalya,Turkey for a week getting my implants…so ,packing for a trip these days is abit more challenging ,as I take a lot of supplements and make my own smoothie….mostly because being toothless ,it’s hard to eat properly….HA! And dental surgery leaves one’s mouth very sore, with stitches …especially mine was quite extensive ….now home, but, still healing, and very painful….antibiotics and pain meds….I must return in 4 months to actually get the teeth….But,I was glad I’d planed ahead…and taken my bullet blender, for nuts, flax, berries, fruit, amino acids, and protéine ……most folks don’t realise when y’a have no teeth…what can one eat?…On a good note…It’s so affordable!!!!! And the clinic put me up in a great hotel..right on the beach…all included…..No way id be able to do it in the states££££….Flight from London Rt also very reasonable….
And everyone so friendly…very professional.I’m so relieved and thankful…😊…..I’ll even bet that one could fly from the US….and have it done cheaper….a lot less….
Anyway,Thanks for showing your travel gear…so compact and well thought out!!!
Love to all 🌹🪷🌹🪷🌹🪷🥰🪬🤗🖕🖕🖕🖕👍🎶🎵🌷
@Chef James Rusk Wow James, that is quite a story. I hope your healing goes well and I bet you're stoked to be able to eat properly. That's ability is a huge part of being a chef ( taste everything) and is taken for granted. Until you lose it.
Simplicity...plug and play, and let's go...
I hope we get more "on the road" videos. Love those.
There will be lots!
Nothing like simplicity .
Lee, Thank you for sharing your world. I remember when you could only imagine from album covers what the pros were like!
The simpler the gear, the less that can go wrong.
Take care everyone, and have a great time out there with Lyle.
I’m weirdly jealous. That rig is so small and simple. I love it!
Wow, I've often wondered about how pro gear gets shipped. There are many horror stories about how "mere mortal" bands have been harassed for wanting to have their instruments shipped with care/respected. I love your solution! Thanks for this!
My impression of this man is so high after all his lockdown videos. Some really stepped up to the plate and his his exemplary own way so did Leland. Many thanks 👏👏
Nice and easy. The only way to go.
Being a small bar gigging bass player for over 25 years I appreciate the simplicity. Thanks for taking the time. I had a phase where I went way overboard with the gear I would bring to a show.. Nowadays, I can wheel my entire bass rig in on a 2 wheel dolly and a backpack. End of the show I break down the gear onto my dolly, collect my money and off I go! The technology has allowed for some massive sound to come from some smaller amps. I use this Aguilar the Mark bass 2 10's and for any club its almost too much, but sounds so good and is bulletproof.
I was just watching some other video with a long explanation of bass guitar FX pedals signal path order, got tired of all that before it was over and came here. WHEW, much better!
Wow. If your rig could talk about all the adventures you've had with JT, CK,PC and more! Safe travels to you and have fun!
Loved that, no pedals no fancy smanchy stuff, just a little bag of extras. Have a great time with the Dingwalls, (sounds like a sitcom from the 70s) Awsome thanks Lee.
keeping things simple needs a lifelong process of experience. and that's the result. wow.
What a cool life. Playing music and hanging out with friends...who just happen to also be world class musicians...but the "Friends hang" is the priceless part.
Hey there, Lee and everyone!
👋
@@artemisXsidecross Hey there! 🍻
Too cool! Thanks for sharing. Love the simplicity.
Nice!!! Thank you for sharing!!! Glad this video came up on my feed!!
Nice to see your tour gear..!! Thanks for sharing!!!
First and foremost: Is have a great tour with Lyle and stay safe. Secondly: Happy to hear there is a lot of support for the documentary. A lot of work has gone into this video and you've been plugging it for months. I hope they add a third showing. Nothing like getting reviews from as many people as possible. Reduces the effect by idiots who zero credentials as a reviewer or what the people actually like. Lastly, I think its cool that you have gone over your gear, but then, who would think you have been flipped off so many times. Remember to us you're very special.
Awesome 👍👍 looking forward to the documentary videos of the tour of LL.
So great ,so simple you are Lee😉👍👍
Great stuff.nice to see a real muso without 100s of pedals and guitars go on tour.good luck on the tour.
No pedals, very interesting! This must be so exciting!!!! Have a great time and enjoy life!
From Woody Guthrie to Robert Johnson many of the greats have been peddle-less 😉
@@artemisXsidecross , true; less is sometimes more, and generally I prefer people who use minimal effects (straight from the guitar into the amp is great, for those who can pull it off, Tab Benoit being an example), but for solo performers who rely on the backline PA in clubs or at large festivals, bringing a big amp and cabinet might not be physically or economically feasible/sensible, and so they'll bring just their instrument and a "get out of trouble" pedalboard. Bassist Doug Wimbush flies to festival gigs with a bass and a pedalboard that can both fit into the overhead compartment, so there's no need to check them in as cargo. If you're touring with a performer or band that has some decent financial backing, like Lyle Lovett, Phil Collins etc., that's another story.
@@artemisXsidecross, Ry Cooder once said that Robert Johnson was probably the type of guy that would have been very happy to play through a Twin Reverb or a Marshall!
RIP Euphonic… great stuff.
Because when you are a bad-ass, you don't need a bunch of junk. And Le is the baddest of the bad-asses!!
Wow, I'm so amazed by this man
Love looking at road gear.
Very informative! Nice guy and one of the best !
This reminds me of a picture where you sit in a case with a smile and the beard on the outside. 😊
Remember that one…
That’s the way for gear to travel as opposed to us mere mortals sweating with anxiety every time we pick up our bass from the oversize pickup!
I will be carrying a bass for my room to practice and record and will have to send it as luggage when we start. I hate it…
Very interesting. It’s always a pleasure listening to such a wonderful bass player 🙏
Nice and simple!!!!
Hey Lee. Great video. I collect and also build some Lego. I think you would be a great help with my storage situation. I am also wondering if ‘Playing For Change’ is still releasing the project you did with a couple of friends. Cheers to one and all.✌️🙃
I hope it gets finished and released.
I am a big fan of Playing For Change and from the beginning; I enjoy street music and art 👍
I appreciate the simplicity of your rig, Lee.
Keeps things simple.
Also a much smaller footprint than the grand piano Lyle travels with...
Be good to you!
So nice to be well beyond the pandemic and seeing Leland (and many others) out doing what they love and bringing music and joy. Have fun on your tour Leland.
Speak for yourself. I'm in bed with COVID watching this. 😷
And a tight bassplayer he is, Yoda!
Always wishing you the best.
thank you for the tour Sir, and that's" all the song needs" like you've said in the past.
Have a great tour. Great to hear the documentary sold out so fast.
Just super cool! Thanks Lee!!
safe travels Maestro.
AS cool as one would have predicted! Blake Shelton wouldn't do this for his fan....
Also, nice to see part of the clean garage! Thanks for #1351!
You're a hero, sir. THank you for sharing.
Simplicity, coming from a A-list artist, is a valuable, valuable lesson
Interesting. And we all know Lyle loves the 12 of June. Enjoy the upcoming tour and congrats on the IF movie 😊
Thankyou so much for letting us in like this. Have a great tour from UK❤
Oh wow, he played 4 Phil 👌🏼
👍👍. We've been enjoying Converse's videos of the Postell show a week ago Sunday. Everybody sounds great! Just wish we had the set list.
Love this set up so easy. EC's set up is just as simple - he takes about the same amount of gear.
A case, half full of just-in-cases, in cases, just in case.
You forgot to throw a pair of corduroys and a t-shirt in your bass cases a la Jaco. 😄Very cool to see exactly what you're bringing out on the road. Congrats on the sellout. In the words of Jason Newstead, "Yes, we sold out. Every seat in the house!" Have a great series of sessions. Looking forward to the Large Band Chronicles!
Thanks Mr.Sklar, very cool rig!
I really wanted to see what's in the little bag of extra stuff!
Like all gear heads we have to see what your packing...Dingwalls...cool.Thank you for those who have to be in the know.Great that there is more calling to see the movie.Stay safe and be safe 🙏 Leland Sklar. PEACE 🙏 ☮️ Hapy trails to you..till we meet again...
You look so good for 76 Lee. Thanks for showing this. I hope we get to see the IF doco in Australia one day.
Congrats on the second showing
You are great
Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼, this was so interesting.
Thanks for showing us packing your shipping case. Busy is good. Take care
thanks Lee , loved it.
Thank you Leland for a behind look at how you travel with your ‘rig’.
I would imagine all children have always been suspect to some degree to adults, how else would Peter Pan have been written. 😉
Perfect set up. Screw all the pedals. You’ve got what you need!!
You’re the Man! Have fun :)
Cant wait to get my Dingwap D roc 5
Lee, I'm afraid your equipment will bump each other when transporting. Maybe it's better to have some foam or something between them?
Was my thinking too.
Always nice to see those videos. Simplier touring rigs, the better they are.
Congratulations on the film!!! I luv the KISS principle.Enjoy & have fun with your busy schedule.❤😍 Thankyou for making the vis Leland 🌻😁❤
Have a great tour!
I hope you have an AirPod in there to be able track that stuff!!!!
Lock it.
Kool, nice simple setup. It's a shame. I kinda thought you were going to be on tour with Peter Gabriel this year. Well there's always next time. Have a great tour. See you next time.👏
Love it!
Keep it simple. Enjoy the tour.
It sure would be great if there were a show in KC MO.
Wow this was so cool to see! Thank you as always for sharing the details with us.
What do you take if going to jam at a friends house or local rehearsal at someone's house? This always fascinates me. Tour rigs are one thing but around town jams without crew are super interesting. Thanks for the vid too. Super inspiring to see you just plug straight in. Love it!!
Would probably bring my EA combo that I use in the studio and a bass…
Take care Leland! You are an inspiration! From Portugal ❤
It doesn't get much simpler that that. It must be a comfort knowing there isn't much to go wrong.
Thank you so much, Lee, for sharing this, and congrats on the movie! I've always wanted to see how you toured, and this is wonderful.
Great, simple rig Lee!! I'm really looking forward to opening for you and Lyle at Summerfest on June 24th with Willy Porter! I hope to see you backstage and meet you!
Absolutely! 👍🏼
I'll be there too, Eric. Hope to meet you.
@@slipperynoodle20 Awesome!
🎶Hello, hello, hello,😊what a wonderful word, hello! 😁I may need to move this way, next time. Rock It Cargo! 🔹💖
Hello with a smile seen or felt is a gift 👍
Hey Audrey! 👋🏻
Hi y'all 🌊I actually got a swim in tonight.
Shipping gear, especially your bass guitars' is scary. Amazing how simple you keep things...wow...TOTO, Phil Collins...same gear...that threw me.
Wow, not even a tuner. What a legend you are, Leland.
excellent !!! so simple!!! thanks for sharing this. have a safe tour.
Glad you're so busy. Fun fun. Have a great tour.
Love your simplicity. Seems like its the way to go. It's good without any extra padding inside. nothing shifts around ?
Love it, Lee. Keep It's Solution Simple.
Love it!!!! Thanks for show✌🏻
Oh and Happy Birthday Lee! Thank you for all you do sir!
Very Cool...Thank you Leland!
He travels light🤘🏼
I love how you are digging in deeper and deeper to your music life.
thank you Leland. very cool! so the obvious next question: what comprises your studio rig(s)...?
hello Leland: your road set up is great. Yes after a while it is a pain in the elbow logging around big bass amps. Like you said all in one case and off you go. I wish you well and above all have a great gig. Take care and keep safe. see you tomorrow.
