Tom Dwan did something greater than just beating the game back in the days, he made poker amusing and inspired the next generations to get into that game. I believe poker owns a lot to Tom Dwan even if what he did was totally unintentional.
He was my role model when I got into poker, and I literally tried to imitate his style. Needless to say, it didn't work for me as it did for him lol but nonetheless, it was just incredible to watch this 20 yo kid, bluffing these ego maniacs and beating them down.
couldnt have said it better. I was 19 when HSP season 5 came out and was introduced to dwan, changed the game for me. I still rewatch that season on the reg for the nostalgia
Couldn’t agree any more... as a young man myself I can confirm all my friends and I looked up to his play and tried to imitate it to some degree. Legend of the game
Definitely. Especially the way the game is played now and where its gone /goin.
@@laor55 yeah its the worst idea ever in the same time , i see so many toms in my online games, they lose alot of money lets put it this way! i like how ppl take an idea they move it in a complete different eviroment and then nothing works and they cant figure why! lol
3:50 for the Greenstein comment
I’ve said this before, Tom Dwan is a true gentleman gambler. Such a class act! And he’s a humble genius.
I was gonna say that
Apart from not finishing the durrrrr challenge when he was getting crushed by jungleman.
He was the “face” on the news during the FT scandal! He spoke up. Agree w you Virginia
@@oc7455 yeah but they negotiated a settlement eventually. It’s not like Tom just walked away forever. It was frustrating as you know in real-time and seemed Wtf but...he and Jungle still are friends for a reason
@@jf5618 what’s the durrr challenge and what happened?
Tom Dwan was way ahead of the times. An amazing talent.
I tell you the real kid woulda ate him alive bone & all..Rip stuey
Also a very dishonest little fkr..
Nick looks like he’s actually playing online poker during the interview 😂😂😂
What’s the actually about
@@masonmountskillz1439 should I explain, or are you going to go all philosophical on me? It’s UA-cam, calm your tits
I was just trying to be funny by saying What do you mean actually to make it out that it is a given that he’d be playing online poker 😂
I feel like Dwan has really come out of his shell over the years. I used to watch interviews with him and he would be slightly socially awkward and shy but he seems bubbly and comfortable these days, it may be the fact that it’s his friend interviewing him but still, it’s nice to see! True beast of poker
He's a classic introvert. Shy in the spotlight, yet an open book around people he feels comfortable with.
People mature with age...
@@wayne9287 doesn't have anything to do with mature
That's back when he was sat in front of his computer playing the nosebleeds online all day, then black Friday happened and he was forced to play live and interact with people so his social skills naturally got better
He’s just matured
I love these videos. Wish there was more insight to these guys on and off the table. Love hearing how they work
No matter what people said about dwan , he’s still one of my all time fav alongside Ivey , Phil galfond
The more I watch these the more I realize Nick Shulman is even a bigger class act than I thought before and I can see why he’s respected among the elder statesmen and the youth of the game.
Dwan is my favorite player of all time.!!! Truly Legend
I love this interview, so raw! Great stuff!
he's got talent. Not everyone has his level of guts to bluff like that
I missed this guy!!! So glad he’s back playing season 8 high stakes !!!
Chip Reeses contributions to super system are great! My first poker read almost 20 years ago! Glad to hear Tom read it along with Hanson's stuff
My dude,,,NJ has the best Poker players in the world. Respect Tom...
Sammy Farha was my favorite on high stakes poker Dwan is right there too, my two favorites
Phil Hellmuth and Tony G
All good questions will be circled back on or avoided, but the layups answered “AMA”.
Cool stuff! Subscribed. 👍
Great side poker content, to put a human side to these great players enhance my love for the game. Big Respect for Schulman
always have absolutely loved tom dwan from the beginning and its safe to say hes an even bettter person now. Nick is the GOat !
For anyone who hasn’t read Gus’s book “Every Hand Revealed” it’s a REALLY good, fast book. It’s not a great “learn how to play” book whatsoever, just a fantastic book for anyone who loves the game and reading Gus’s thoughts through EVERY hand. Loved it when it came out years ago
I remember when I first heard the name Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and when I first saw him on High Stakes Poker I was like this is the Stu Unger of our generation. He has always been an icon for me and I’m probably a little older than he is... by the way how could I get his autograph? I would seriously frame a playing card, dollar bill or napkin signed by him. I always appreciate watching Durrrr, always will! I don’t know if there is any player that was ever more exciting, personally in my opinion there is not.
Hell yeah..I had a leather bracelet that said WWDD.
Wow I never saw his personality before. What a sweet heart!
Rumor has it Tom went to Total Recall to suppress the Isildur era
Love Tom DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Dwan!
You owe us an Ivey story, Tom.
FR, I wish somebody asked him if he can run through what was going through his mind during the bluff for like $700K where Ivey could have made the sickest call with a pair of sixes
How is there not a full movie about this man yet?
What's the name of fhe song on background?
The galfond line is so funny
I just recently watched this I've been watching old high stakes poker episodes on UA-cam, also when Dwan bluffed Ivey that was crazy
THATS what I wanted to hear about. When he was staring at the ceiling so long his eyes watered!
I've always thought that if I had the bankroll to have played against guys like Dwan, Ivey, Esfandiari, Helmuth back when I used to watch poker in college, Tom Dwan would have been the most difficult one to play against for my style at the time. His wild bluffs and overbets would have given me nightmares. I even for a period tried to play his style and I just couldn't mentally stomach the crazy variance
Which is the book in question, mentioned in the beginning of the interview? (I'm not talking about Super System, the other with the hand reviews like Dwan and Nick brought up) It's hard to hear the name of it
Gus Hansen's book
It was called “Every Hand Revealed”
"Every Hand Revealed". It's Gus basically going through his thought process throughout all the hands of a tournament he won (Aussie Millions). It's a really good book, def worth reading
I thought on the last one he was for sure going to say isildur 2009 but he probably doesn't like to think about that match too much and no mention of Jungleman which is probably for the best
Probably still owes him several hundred thousand dollars at least.
Remember seeing Tom in Sydney, nice block. Durrrr
Never forgotten him saying he hates this fucking country
I like Gabe's explanation of why he didn't pull it back better....If Barry doesn't want to run it twice then im not going to do what he wants. I really respected Tom after I saw that more so than ever.
Wheres these new episodes at? High stakes poker
I remember ten years ago, the internet kids would make all these weird faces and keep their mouth hanging open during hands. Then i watched Dwan in HSP and understood where they got that from.
don't forget the bobbing your head back and forth to the tune of your chip shuffles! 😂
Dwan writes a poker book
I will 💯 read it !!
I'd give 100:1 he never does. It would be interesting though.
Phil Galfond decided to teach everyone poker lol
He inspired me to get into the game, when I discovered him in 2015
If I were just listening to this I would think Tom Dwan was on Dax Shephard’s podcast
Haha I scrolled down to the comment section and now I can't unhear it haha..
Great interview and redirecting with the questions. He would be a fascinating guy to just shoot the shit with off the record...I image he has some pretty incredible stories.
Its so weird to see the interviewer look through the laptop nonchalantly while the dwan excitedly talks about his ideas next to you
Where can i find the episode at 0:03 ?
That's a glimpse of the new season of High Stakes Poker, which kicks off on December 16th.
Tom always act like me when i was on my FIRST date. But i respect him.Great player
TOM IS THE PERFECT POKER PLAYER.. STAYS THE SAME LEVEL.. NEVER UP OR DOWN... WITH EMOTION... A GREAT PLAYER
You mean Phil ivey. Oh wait, ITS BECAUSE HES A CIS WHITE GENDERED MALE?
hahaha, imagining the convos between galfond and durrr about (before he started through now) galfond "teaching everybody great poker", that's twice now in interviews durrr not too happy about the equity sucked out from that. the response in the triton interview ("i am high stakes poker") was more involved than here, but both responses about the same.
One of the greatest, one of the few that changed and helped to evolve the game and a sick sick gambler.. Having just 2% equity more on the flop he rejects to pull money back from a 1 mil pot😆😆
That was 50 50 bro
@@arpitbudhiraja7221 thats what i said bro
puckfokergo LOL I'm dead
1:32 ; great question
who remembers durrs 86s vs howards AK
Tom: “I mean I have a pair..”
Howard: “oh! Okay well a pair is go-“
*Tom turns up 86*
"You got durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr'd"
Back durrrrrd :D
86 v Bob safi too
I watch that hand every few months
I'd like to know what happened when he called all in with AQ against Paul.
He didn't call though. He ripped.
Damn, that Phil G guy. Sure went and f***** up that gravy train 🤣🤣
Actually great to get some insight from both. Nick, you are so awesome. One constructive feedback is not looking at the laptop when the person you are interviewing is speaking, I felt frustrated that 100% focus was not on Dwan when he was speaking. Understand you were looking at questions as well. Thanks for the content Poker King!
Tom is such a nice lad :)
Sheldon Cooper recovering from a meth addiction.
i can´t help XD
Is he jewish?
Daniel Cates is supposed to be really good, you should ask Tom about him, maybe even set up a match between them
He dealt with the triads in China…He’s a warrior..Respect..
🙄🤦
Tom is king of the $5 haircut.
that hand was genuinely insane btw
In the hand vs Barry...earlier in the same session Barry told Tom “run it once”. The way it was edited and obv appeared was that Tom basically saying FU as payback from before. I’m guessing Tom doesn’t watch the old HSP as much as we have over the years and would love to know if he was reminded of the fact that Barry had done that previously, if Tom would’ve answered that question differently 🤔
Barry ALWAYS ran it once. The question wasn't to run it or not. Barry said he would not run it, but would be willing for each player to take back $200k from the pot. Tom said no to that because he thought he was a slight favourite.
@@Joel-js2gk Joel, you are 100% man! Just reading your comment rang total recall! That’s exactly what it was. Barry wanted to pull back. EDIT: however 100% earlier in that session, HU Barry b Tom and Tom asked once/twice. Barry obv said once. Given that history when Barry asks for a pull back, it’s pretty much the same as run twice re removing money not variance. That’s what it was. Right on! I recall in real-time thinking “fuk yeah” as I’m 100% Barry had rejected Tom’s earlier “deal” of run twice/3x and when Barry asked for the pull back I was happy as fuk Tom declined. That was obv early Tom exposure to the bigger established names like Barry, who I love btw, but you either do business HU in river or you don’t. Can’t be “only once” and than be a “pull back” dude as well. Just looked bad IMO
Dwan is the man. 🤟
Since here is a poker crowd, can casino holdem be beat, is there a way to do it, id love hear some ideas
oh geez Tom Dwan could be Data in the next next generation star trek movie lol
this guy changed the game...he made it fun to watch on TV....Gus Hansen was first but Dwan took it to a whole next level
If you go back and watch Gus it’s funny cuz it’s hard to believe you ever thought he was any good
@@dayra6425 yeah alot of it was the element of surprise because nobody was playing like that but once everyone caught up he was crusty
@@OKG2000 he ended up broke
Relentless aggression. People just figured out how to trap him. But he had a sick run
Dean seems to have crazy respect for galfond and Jonathan little.

I was thinking hes gonna mention Isildur but idk.
Toms so cool
I know you read the comments, and I will say it again until you so it, you have to ask him about the durrr Challenge.
Hes just playin Phil, you know he loves you
Where are the questions about the Durr challenge? Sssssoffftttballll
Someone please get my sweet boy some sunlight
Special mention to Phil Galfond for sharing a lot of poker knowledge.
He is so true
He looks so much older now compared to that cash game he talked about vs Greenstein. Years of poker has been hard on the guy lol
This is when Inlost all respect for Dwan. Be tood Greenstein (whatever you want to do). Grenstein then told him and he said no.
I had always assumed it was how Gabe put it. Tom offered twice and Barry said no, so Tom shook his deal off because screw it
You can watch it somewhere. Barry said no to twice but he said we can pull have pot back or something like that (so loser loses less.) I think that annoyed Dwan so he said F it
Hello mate. It's always a good watch listening to Tom talking about past hands from HSP. I'm developing a new poker movie and would love the chance to have a chat to see how we can collaborate. A poker movie that is poised to be the right film that poker players want to see. "Casino meets Pulp fiction & Rounders."
It was Barry who declined running it twice and this seemed to piss Dwan off which is understandable given it was a huge pot. He snap declined Barry’s request to take money back
Exactly.. I'm not sure why he's explaining it like that. Barry declined the first time and it looked like it was reciprocal when Tom did it. Odd answer.
Dwan actually said Barry would only run it once even before he asked him.
It is well known that Greenstein never runs it more than once like many old school players.
I don't think Dwan was mad I think it was more off if you aren't going to bend the "rules" I won't either type of deal.
@@dru70292 If Barry only runs it once then why did he ask Dwan how many times he wanted to run it the second time they were all in?
@@CHRISG612 I haven't seen that one but tom does mention it in the clip so he knows barry only runs it once.
Also in toms answer he says he would have taken the money back if he had calculated his odds correctly and was laughing about it the entire time. 4:11
@@dru70292 i know what he said. He's either lying or misremembering the situation. Watch the HSP episode where this takes place.
Anyone approach Dwan about making a biopic of his rise in the poker community?
Gus Hanson lol
지금 탐드완의 뱅크롤은 얼마일까?
Tom is so cool
How long did they let him out for?
Dwan should totally pursue a PhD in math, physic, or cs. Make him a certified genius
who is Timothy Tom mentioned at the end?
Timofey Kuznetsov
Durrrrrrrrrr 😃
how does durrrr not mention isildur1 or jungleman here under toughest he's played .-.
Should there be a new poker game where upon showdown, before the cards are turned up at the end, where the payout is whatever the expected payout is. They put the hand percentages out there on the televised streams in real time, so there might be a way to have a game where the pot gets split like those percentages. That eliminates variance and you get paid strickly on how you maneuvered. Some version of that game, especially for online where the computations can be automatically done might work.
handling variance is a huge part of poker. if variance didn't exist poker wouldn't exist bc bad players would never win.
imagine a casino that instead of actually spinning the ball in roulette they just took 5.4 percent of each bet someone went to make. it wouldn't last very long.
Tom dwan reminds me of a sheldon cooper
DURRRR
i knew when he asked for his top 3 that we wouldnt get a proper answer
holy shit, Dwan is a likeable guy. Never wouldve guessed judging by his dead eyes and open mouth on the poker table.
How can there be no mention of Isildur in his toughest opponents?
On the Greenstein question, correct me if I'm wrong, but Greenstein never ran it more than once.
Puckfokergo = king
Has Tom come out yet??
Yes he’s a poker pro now
Amazing guy. Smart and engaging away from the table. But puts on an amazingly deadpan dimwit face during the game. Brutal.
