  • Emergency traveler's language guide to survive in Italy

Dylan Murphy There are a few things for how to learn Italian
Decide precisely why you wish to speak it
      Try to use Italian everyday
Decide which process works for you the best.
(I learned about these and more on Hartlyn Language Lessons site )

Oh Carlos, I can't thank u enough for sharing these hand gestures. My mom had me at the age of 19 then decided she wasn't ready to be a parent so young. She literally dropped me off in a hand basket (with a note) at the front steps of my grandparents home. Little did she know my grandfather (age 60 then) had retired 2 weeks prior so he was there to answer the door.. to her surprise! My grandmother still working as a night nurse (20 yrs younger than pops) could not care for me during the day so this left me to bonds with my gramps. I weighed only 2 lbs. at birth (1962) which left me with some minor health issues, I was lucky considering. One of those issiues was that I was deaf which nobody realized until I entered 2nd grade which was probably due to reading lips and my grandfather's sign language/gestures. What more did a girl need! LoL My gramps was my heart and soul.. I loved his stories, I loved how he cooked for me.. and also taught me, I loved the things he shared with me and no other. He served in world war 1 and 2 never speaking of it to anyone else. He was born in Sanborno, when he joined the army he never saw his family (large family) again. I was blessed to have him until the age of 30 (he was 98) when he told me on his death bed that I was the biggest blessing in his life and he'd never forget me. Thank u again Carlos, just your voice alone is such a comfort to me. ~Shine~ from WA, State (spouse to Mike Lee)

Dear Michael, English is not my mother language therefore I am not quite sure whether I will be able to express all my gratitude to you for sharing with me and my friends your marvellous and moving history. It should be as an inspiration for all people who had everything in the life and have not your enthusiasm and your grateful sentiment.Inspiration for me, as grandfather, is your gratitude toward your gramps. I am also cooking for my grandson and I will try to give to them the same love you received from your beloved grandfather and I hope to be remembered in the same way. Please write to me any time you desire to do it. I will be happy and honored to have you as a friend and I am sure I will receive from you the strength to look more positively the life. Thanks Michael. Please, give my regards to Mike. Ciao!!!!

      1) "do you make a fool of me?" He says "do you wanna dumb me?"
      2) "complicity". it comes from the italian saying "acqua in bocca" (water in mouth) that means you must do as fish do, keep water in your mouth and don't talk
      3) he says "tre" that's actually the number 3. Doesn't really match with hand gesture which is supposed to mean "ti faccio un culo così", literally "I turn your ass like this" that means "I'll beat you up, I'll kick your ass". The reference to number 3 could be from neapolitan and southern culture

1:51 sounds like "you are a dummy". 6:39 sounds like "turn around" which is how he uses it later in the direction part.

      6:25 to steal

    • @marcorizzoni9766
      @marcorizzoni9766 3 роки тому +7

      1:51 it’s “you’re dummy”
      7:10 indicates “complicity”
7:34 it’s a “threat”. This one it’s similar to the one for “you’re lucky” (just the facial expression and the violence of the gesture change) because they are mimicing the same thing: an ass. In italian to say that someone it’s lucky it’s used the idiomatic phrase “(lui/lei) ha culo” that literally means “he/she has ass”. And a common and generic threat in italian it’s “ti farò il culo” that can be roughtly translated as “I’ll fuck your ass” or “I’ll beat/kick your ass”. It just means that he will somehow make you really regret to have ever met him.

The sign language is a language created on purpose to allow deaf-mute people to express themself in an articulate codified way.
The sign used differ from country to country, although a global code exists. The Italian hand gestures meanwhile came to life spontaneously as an effort of the people to enrich spoken communication, make more precise statements. In Italy it's used widely by non deaf-mute people in every day life communication. A sort of helpful tool to underline specific situation and moods in an expressive way, to say things that should not heard by others in a subtil and elegant way, or as a way to comunicate in loud chaotic situations

This video was wonderful - I loved it! As a child I remember some of my family members making a few of these gestures and it brings back lovely memories. People have teased me (jokingly & sweetly) that I wouldn't be able to talk if I couldn't move my hands. I never realized just how much or why it was so much a part me - it's in my blood - and I'm proud of that. I would love to research and find my Sicilian relatives and hope to visit Italy some day. Finalmente!

This is crazy because I grew up in a very remote part of the Appalachain Mountains and have never even been around anything Italian but I recognized almost all the gestures and have seen them my whole life. Wow, I realized I could go to Italy and communicate with my hands only. Grazie from America!

In colombia we also use hand gestures. and for my surprise we share many of them! its amazing that two countries that are so apart from each other and speak different languages have similarities in their culture!
