History of Blue & Green Message Bubbles
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 гру 2023
- The history of blue and green iPhone message bubbles is tied to the development of iMessage, Apple's proprietary messaging service. It was introduced with iOS 5 in 2011, offering iPhone users a seamless and free way to send text messages, photos, videos, and more.
The color difference of message bubbles was a visual cue to distinguish between iMessages, which are sent over the Internet, and traditional SMS messages, which use a cellular network. - Наука та технологія

The most baffling thing about this is that this is strictly a US issue. Other countries use third party apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Discord, and so on. Today most people really only use the default messaging app for OTPs/Authentication codes and nothing else
Well said , here almost all people use WhatsApp

When I was in high school, I was in two programs being a residential construction class and DECA, classmates straight up refused to let android users in the group chat for DECA and in my construction class we had a second group chat that had everyone that uses an iPhone so we could use the iMessage features and it resulted in two classmates switching from android to iPhone just so they could be apart of it
Geez.
It amazes me how people don’t think about using WhatsApp or some other app
If I meet these people in person, I'd get them on WhatsApp. If I don't, I'd get them on Discord. Assuming my university has no Slack group
Isheep cult
You probably don't want to work with those people of that's how they act.
I really don't get the deal with the US and SMS. In Brazil we just use Whatsapp, Instagram, Telegram, even Discord, and as far as I'm aware that's basically the same for most of the world, just with different apps.
Yeah, here in Portugal too. I use whatsapp or discord 99% of the time
We have a larger country than most and it's not attached to other countries besides Canada (who uses SMS) and Mexico (where we can still use SMS). When you start having multiple countries on a continent, its more logical to have data driven messaging than cellular due to each country having its unique range of frequencies.
w Polsce też
@@superiortoall22no. europe for example is the same frequency band regardless of where you are pretty much, be it data be it normal sms. it has to do with sms being much much more expensive here initially while data waw always comparatively cheap. so people used things that use data, like whatsapp, regardless of platform.
@@superiortoall22 I mean, Brazil is just as big, we do have more neighbors but geographically it's not much of a concern like in Europe, and data is simply far more efficient in every way (ergo why iMessage uses data over cellular whenever possible) for the past 15 years or so.
People don’t understand that sms basically cost so cheap that it is nothing or it is free in America.
WhatsApp was relevant because outside the USA, sms was extremely expensive. That is why WhatsApp never boomed in USA. It has nothing to do of how weird is America.
If world wide sms cost was free than WhatsApp would have never existed
you are so right. In russia back in a day we even used latin alphabet so we could fit more in one sms. it was crazy expensive. even now sms is still not included in a plan and no one thinks of using it
SMS used to be somewhat expensive in the U.S., but it seems to have gotten very cheap (or free) by the time smartphones became widespread in the early 2010s. Nowadays, almost every cellular plan in the U.S. includes unlimited SMS and talk time.
That's why textspeak (txtspk) was invented: not only was it faster to type, but using fewer letters meant you could fit more words into one message (which used to be capped at 160 characters).
Exactly
@@InventorZahranAnd the reason it got cheap? There was no point in charging for it when almost all phones had Wi-Fi and you could send messages over an app like WhatsApp to other people.
Kermit was right, it’s not easy being green.
Just because messages are green doesn't mean it comes from Android. It's just ANY other OS that isn't iOS. Like whatever proprietary software that's used to send authentication codes.

I still think Apple _will_ differentiate between iMessage, SMS and RCS text. That's why I've suggested we may see RCS messages in a new color bubble (I've suggested orange) to avoid confusion with SMS messages.
Nope it’s staying green
They could have at least made RCS a darker green than SMS like Google Messages does

I’d love to see Apple release an iOS update that lets us go back to experience all of the classic iOS themes. Loved the original blue and green bubbles. Some of those versions of iOS were so nice then. Plus iMessage is due for some enhancement. We’ve pretty much had the same bubble icons since iOS 7 released 11 years ago.
I remember you saying that it is simply impossible for an Android device to use the iMessage protocol, and that it is so securely designed in its current form that it would not work on Android devices and would have to be modified in an insecure way.
It turned out that this was not true all along, the iMessage protocol could always be reverse engineered and always worked on Android devices in its current secure protocol.

Haven’t Apple made FaceTime cross platform compatible during the pandemic? With people able to share links to a video web link? Or something? I am sure I remember something like that coming out, although I haven’t had a need to try it.
Yeah
They humiliated Android ‘cause they have to wait for a link to be created for them 😂
@@thisaintart yea and it’s in the browser
That's not cross platform compatibility though
Doesn't really count though as full compatibility on Android. They only did it because Zoom was very popular during the pandemic (people working at home). This was just an attempt to compete with zoom, that's all.
1:32 RCS chats are actually great. Even if you lose connection, Google Messages app asks for your confirmation for switching to SMS and can also automatically switch back when connection is re-established.
FaceTime was originally open source, but Apple got sued by a patent troll so they had to make it non-peer to peer. They weren’t going to pay for Android users on their servers (justifiably so) so they made some only, by the time they figure out how to make it peer to peer, without breaking any patents, the popularity has grown so much they realized it was a reason for people to switch/stay with Apple. So you could blame patent law/trolling on that one.
Yep VirnetX
Patent trolls are moslty an American problem bc of the stupid everyone has the pay in the lawsuit

Hello A E Team , I hope everything is going smoothly for you. I have a puzzling situation to discuss. I recently bought Apple Type C headphones, and they function perfectly with my iPhone 15 and Android device Mi 11X. However, I'm facing an issue with compatibility on Mi 11X Pro, despite both phones being from the same brand and having the same USB output. Could you help me understand the reason behind this? Additionally, I'm contemplating purchasing a Nothing Phone 2, so I would appreciate it if you could check the compatibility with these headphones on the Nothing phone as well, if possible. and could you explain why this headphone is compactible with some android phones and some are not, even in same brand.

Is the RCS iPhone part only for EU. Or is it also coming to U.S as well.
Finally someone pronounces “read receipts” correctly.
I've never thought of anything like that. We have WhatsApp, Facebook messenger, etc. Messages on all devices go as data messages, not SMS / MMS. That's why I don't really care about green and blue bubbles in iMessage app.
It’s ridiculous that this is even a topic. People in India use WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal etc, perfectly compatible cross platform and has never been an issue. Buying an iPhone or Android based phone shouldn’t never be about IMessage/ FaceTime. These are just communication platforms and there are plenty of alternatives cross platform
They are just dumb to choose a service that's only available on one platform.
Facetime is garbage google meet or even whatapp facetime is whole lot of better
Historically, people in the US have unlimited SMS plans, so there was never the incentive for people to use 3rd party messaging apps.
That's why I use both an iPhone and a Samsung phone. The iPhone as a secondary device and for those who want to use iMessage with me and the Galaxy to fulfill my dreams of customization and lots of software features.
Europe is amazing in this whole apple vs android fight. they are making things that we thought would never happen, happen!

so if EU rolled back the requirement does that mean apple won't be allowing RCS?

Please do a video on why messaging apps (ie WhatsApp) removed their Apple Watch version
How is imessage any different then whatsapp ? Or telegram ?
I mean if Apple opens iMessage I probably wouldn’t use iPhone anymore and Tim Cooks knew it…
What makes me laugh about all of this is the fact that the green/blue bubble war is only one sided. Android users can have whatever colored bubble they want.
SMS did not use data. MMS, although using data, did not take away from your monthly allotment. If you're in the middle of nowhere, just sending a quick "hello" over iMessage takes data vs. an SMS which does not.
With those false statements, you managed to get me to tune out within 15 seconds.
the EU is a life saver.

anyone not from US just laugh at this
yeah exactly, just the stupid americans (to clarify i mean the us) being at it again as always.
I never imagined people buy an iPhone for solely to get an iMessage In my country people use Facebook Messenger. I bought my first IPhone for gaming because games and apps are better optimized for iOS and I liked the hardware design of an iPhone.
It really makes us feel astonished who live outside US while hearing about this issue. Everywhere else in the world the society doesn't care about Apple or Android except for outside brand display. Nobody uses iMessage. Seriously. Many of the iPhone users don't even know about it frankly speaking.

Anyone who seriously cares enough about the color of bubbles that they're willing to bully people over them needs to grow up. I would even go as far as to say they're not worth associating with.
My concern is that SMS is unsecure, and since people in the US don't like using third party messengers, there needs to be a way for iPhone and Android users to communicate securely.
"If I switch to iPhone, will I be consuming more natural resources and increasing my carbon footprint even though I already have a perfectly functional phone?" "Yes, but we don't care that you can make your existing Android device feel new again by just replacing the battery. Buy an iPhone and feel new again rather than replacing the battery on your Android phone."
The EU should focus on more important stuff than green or blue bubbles, for example, making manufactures ship phones with their respective chargers
My entire family has iPhones because of this
Nice
I’m convinced Tim Cook decided to release RCS early just to spite the Nothing CEO for calling him out in their messages video. Like Apple already had a plan to advertise it next year but Tim just said “Fuck it this small fry thought he could play around.”
He couldn't care less. If he and his company has money, he's happy.
He did it avoid EU imposing even more stringent interoperability requirements onto Apple, like making iMessage available on Android

Do people not know how to download apps? I mean I get it is convenient but if you're not willing to use an app like WhatsApp or line to talk with your friend or family member who has an Android device then you are, in my honest opinion, kind a crappy person
It's so dumb and shallow but it's a thing in the US. Americans just cannot be bothered to download another messaging app.
Try getting your friends and family to ALL switch to Signal or another app. Let us know how that goes…
Someone I know once refused to download any new app on their iPhone (after installing the ones they use frequently) because it required their Apple ID password. I got a physical password book for them, and they're now willing to download apps. Meanwhile, Android hasn't asked for my password to download an app in years (if at all).

Why is there even a difference?
Initially sms was blue, then they added iMessage and boom, now sms is green. Same app, different color. Why? People wanna know if it’s SMS for many reasons. 160 character limit per message, high res photo limits, plenty of reasons
