Hopefully you've seen Gigguk's "Attack on Titan in 9 Minutes"! It's a really, um, insightful summary of Season 1 that AoT fans love to watch reactors react to! You may also want to consider watching some of the OVAs (original video animations) that were released between S1 and S2. The most popular ones are "Ilsa's Notebook" and "No Regrets" (a two-parter).

Since they've reached there, it's not a spoiler anymore if I say that that episode is probably the episode where the entirety of the show truly starts to unravel.
Imo, it was the biggest and most critical turning point of AoT. There were a few b4 and there're a few more afterwards but I think that that one moment was when everything changed for AoT.

Your reactions are truly outstanding. The way you dig into every single scene and sentence is EXACTLY what you should be doing with this show. There's rarely ever a line without a purpose, and most reactors miss 100% of the usual missable stuff and then another 30% by not paying attention. You on the other hand pick up on all of the clues and even a good 30% of the things you're not expected to think twice about yet. And we've barely even scratched the surface of AOTs puzzle box style narrative. Love you two, keep going!

Btw the sunlight thing is only applicable to pure regular titans. Titans shifters don't really care about sunlight for energy. Annie didn't want to go deep underground cause it would impair her transformation, just like they had Eren sleep underground in the scouts castle.

@@peasanttoking6839 I was careful not to spoil anything, did I miss something? At this point in the show it was only stated that normal titans were affected by sunlight, no statement was made on shifters.

Yeah, Eren was able to transform from within a Titan's stomach, so it doesn't seem like sunlight is key 😆

So, I guess they're really perceptive and smart or just got spoiled and acted like they uncovered the mystery... Either way, I enjoy watching them react.

This show absolutely masters the “focus over here, so you don’t focus over there” method of twists!
Isayama handles the plot points and twists like a magician does with sleight of hand fr. He keeps pumping info, but he doesnt give all the context to make the right questions.
Even small "inconsecuential" dialogue makes full sense once You have the whole picture. It never fails to amaze me how solid his vision of the show must have been right from the start.
I've seen already almost all the videos from them and I can clearly see how enormously more excited they are about the show than any other reaction they've made so far!
AoT is really the TITAN of not just animes, but also of all shows ever.

Truthfully though.. their One Piece anime reactions are pretty great too. They almost tear up at everything and it's both cute and refreshing ☺️
One Piece and AoT are the 2 shows that I'd say are the GOATs. The storytelling in both are masterful. Isayama-sensei and Oda-sensei are truly geniuses.

For one thing, once you're on the One Piece train, you're gonna feel that even 2000 episodes might not be enough. There can never be enough episodes for a good show. (As long as the quality doesn't drop. And OP doesn't). So, just watch at your own pace and enjoy the ride. If it takes years to catch up, then let it do that..haha
As I mentioned, from what I can see, only AoT can rival or top One Piece in terms of storytelling. It might not be something that everyone loves but anyone who knows how to judge a good story will have to agree that One Piece is masterfully written.
I recommend watching at least till the end of Arlong Park. That's about 40 episodes in. If you don't like it by then, maybe it's not for you.
Don't listen to those saying that it gets really good after 300 or sumthing. By Arlong Park you can already see the good storytelling and world building. If it doesn't appeal to someone by then, it's probably never gonna be..
Oh, and you might need to check out the filler list and skip those. OP fillers are quite good tho but since it's non-canon, just skipping it will do no harm..skip the recaps and intro too. The OP and ED songs are all great though so I recommend listening to those unless you really need to cut the time
I've never been into reaction channels, but I've loved rewatching it with y'all! Your reactions and theory-making are honestly so insightful. And i love that there's two of you, because that's how you should watch this show. Bouncing off off other people and leaning on each other for comfort when things get bad.

I like anime watchalongs. If I watch it alone I feel the emotions too much. I like the watchalongs better than reactions on UA-cam. This one is really good tho.

same but to be fair this was actually my first anime I watched and I was a lot younger, I just liked seeing titans and humans juking it out, my tiny brain couldn't comprehend annie being the titan until this episode. Although I knew eren was the titan from the beginning because it just made sense at the time lol
I recently completed all the episodes and still can't get over the deep, deep sadness. I love all the characters, appreciate Isayama, wit studio, mappa and Sawano created this show!
That thing Annie does at 12:06 where she clutches onto her arm, is something she does throughout the various seasons. It's basically her trying to self sooth. She isnt used to human affection or contact so its her desperately trying to calm herself. This time around it failed and she cackled louder even as she tried to hold on. This stress overloaded her.
Annie just wanted to be ordinary and be human, live a normal life.
But they made her special, she's also gifted and all that. She has been going with the flow that's why she said she admire people who go againts the flow and she would even help them if they push forward 😭❤

It's fun to see how she was supper suspicious from the start. She was asking Armin many good questions. But then again her goal was to capture Eren and they were trying to sneak him out so it was very hard for her to look away from this. Even if she knew something was fishy she wanted to keep track or Eren or maybe even capture him once he was out of the walls.
Watching this greatest show on earth for the 89th time with you guys will be fun...

15:18 that’s a great inferrence. If we look back at 5:46, she makes an interesting statement about hoping weak people (weak in the sense of not being able to fight against fate, going along with the flow) can be seen as “human” and not heartless monsters

The reason this episode is called "Smile" is because in the manga Annie just smiled, instead of her laughing. The author changed his mind later and sent over his initial drafts of her laughing to the anime team, asking them to put it back in.

A bit of history: These rings are actually real, and they were used in real life. They were called Hevsurian battle rings, and were used by georgians that lived on South mountains of Kavkaz.

Female Titan is the best waifu ever
just a reminder, only pure titans that can't move during night time but Titan shifter like Eren is not affected. this is important for season to come. remember that.
The reason why they want Annie in the underground is already been explained during "Bite" episode. they wanted Eren to control his transformation so for him to not move around, they put them in a well, so he can't move around. however Eren couldn't transform because he has no goal, he transformed when he was reaching for teaspoon, so Petra and the others got panicked because he transformed after he is not trapped in a well, and showed they didn't trust Eren that time. but then it got clear that Eren didn't intended to transform, so they Bite their hands to show their apology and makes them trust each other, and that's why Eren hesitated to help Petra during levi squad vs Female titan, because Eren doesn't want to break that Trust.
again this is important in the story, I can't tell more because of spoiler. but this Trust is important especially in the final season because a lot of people misunderstood Eren so much and they don't understand the ending.

It's so interesting rewatching the series through you guys because now that the show is finished and I have the full context for every character, I see what they're saying in a new light.

When Armin was staring down Annie, he was suspicious when the Female didn't kill him. Then he gave his whole "suicidal bastard" speech. Which stopped Annie in her tracks. THATS when Armin knew it was Annie. Only Erens close friends knew Eren by "suicidal bastard" so when Armind says "That's the Titan that killed that Suicidal Bastard" Annie slips up. She thinks she's killed Eren for a brief moment. Armin is much much smarter than he let's on.
I love Annie, such a complex and tough character.

Nice call on the ring!! Eren was in denial that Annie was the female titan. It would be difficult to transform underground. That’s why he wanted Annie to go down to prove she wasn’t a titan. TItans are more active in the day vs night(not necessarily powered by sunlight) great reaction!!
