SKIL's NEW AUTO HAMMER, NEVER SWING A HAMMER AGAIN!

- This is the all new SKIL - AUTO HAMMER (part number - AH6552A-10) and it is incredible. 3 position head, magnetic collet, led work light, and can drive 3.5" nails with ease. I'm mainly using this for roughing boxes for residential electrical work but this tool is so versatile I can imagine all the ways it would come in useful. this should be available for public around spring of 2022, so keep an eye out or follow my socials to get updates along the way!
I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. That being said I am working on framing out my basement and Bought this ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt gun. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!
@@naimi9584 nice!
This right up my alley. I lost an eye a few years back and still have problems with depth perception. It's a clown show watching me use a hammer. Thanks for bringing this to light.
Hope this helps you!
Problem solved. Don't look at the hammer head or the head of the nail. Look the surface of where the nail is going in and you'll never miss. Many years.👍
This is exactly what I was looking for. I was told that Craftsman made one, and then I ran into this video. I'm an electrician and this seems like the perfect tool for tight spaces between joists, especially with the pivoting head. For all of you saying, "this is for lazy people" and "I'll just keep using my hammer/nail gun" are missing the mark--ie every tool has its purpose. I just ordered this Skil kit for $99USD with tool, 2.0A battery and charger thru Amazon, delivery says March 6-16. Carplumbtrician kicked butt with this one, you got a new subscriber.
You couldn't have said it better! Thanks for the sub!!!

I think this would really shine when someone is building a deck and joist hangers! I actually have the Milwaukee M12 version, however this one looks a lot easier to use.
I tried to click bait but it's also true haha yes joist hangers would also be Ideal for this!!

This is the one!
2:44 His scab board slips and a little while later it is flush. That is a handy tool.
haa i noticed that....screw gun for me
As soon as I saw the board slip, I stopped watching the video.
Is there no proper way to perhaps hold it due to limited hands? It seemed like he got it in a bit without it slipping or vibrating out of place, so maybe you can get the nail in a bit so that it doesn't move and then start holding it and let the auto hammer do the rest?
Or maybe if you have a perceptive prediction of the nail depth, you can get the nail in enough to stay but not enough to pierce the connecting surface/board and align it and complete it. It's not that much of an inconvenience in my opinion.
But a nail gun wouldn't need you to do any of that extra stuff, so maybe this tool would be better suited for smaller projects where you don't want to get the nail gun out.
I think i will get one of these for my wife, she has arthritis in her hands and does a bit of craft wood work, ideal tool. Good stuff.
That would be an awesome gift!
Awesome, we use to use pneumatic “palm nailer” Porter Cable…the air hose was cumbersome! The cordless age is amazing

Damn. I wished I could’ve had that in my 35 years of electrical. That is awesome. 👍
I had wrist surgery 20 years ago and have bad arthritis in my dominant hand/wrist. Swinging a hammer has always been problematic. I personally would take the nails out and use screws in the tight spots. I definitely see the value in this tool. I never knew these Auto Hammers were so fast. My problem is I am getting too many tools. Buying another specialty tool? I will probably end up buying one, who am I kidding. Great Video my Man.

This is one of the greatest inventions I have ever seen. I wish I was in construction just so I had the need for one.
Use one 8 hours straight.
Your hand will be numb for a month.
Just thwt sound brings back bad memories.
The greatest structures ever built didn't need gimmicks. String, math, and muscle is all we need.
No gimmicks, just modern technology.
Handy for remodel work around old plaster.
Its tiny rapid impacts are less prone to cracking plaster over the pounding of hammer blows.
Good point!
They are great for tight places and quick jobs. They do not last long using them “full time”. After a month of continuous use, it rattled itself apart. Luckily they are cheap so throw away and replace. Don’t think it will ever replace a good palm air nailer. We have used a Banks from HF for three years now. It has been a great tool. Just beat to death and it still stays loyal. I’ve made that 17 dollars back hundreds of times.
Thats awesome

@@WORDversesWORLD there are plenty of spots you can't fit a hammer dude. All carpenters have ran into them from time to time. If you haven't, you're not a Carpenter.
A palm nailer most certainly does not replace a good hammer by any means, but they can be a godsend in a tight spot. Pretending they have no use is absolutely ignorant.
@@jimibones178 I do not pretend anything, and yes in a few places the might come in handy but for me that ain't worth having or spending money on, and that's not ignorance that's common sense, lol! Edit: and just what comment have I made that is ignorant or that I put them down? You're reading into something you shouldn't have.
Those have been around for decades. Damn helpful tool. The ones i use are pneumatic. Come in handy when yoy need to do a million joist hangers.
Though I hate having tools on different platforms from the few videos I have seen on this tool, I personally like the Skil the really only competitor still on the market is the Milwaukee palm nailer though Ryobi and Craftsman did have auto hammers which sort of died out. I can see using it for what your doing and potentially be useful like the palm nailer was designed for. I do like some of the features of the Skil and price is lower but you not only get a 2amp battery I like their batteries double as a power pack. Also the red palm nailer is only one direction where I can see this having numerous uses.
I do want to get one and try it in other ways like automotive like stuck rotors and hopefully Skil expands heads for this because it does seem like we are moving away from air tools be nice to have adaptors that could be used for different applications like a chisel head and other head like pneumatic tools had. Don't get me wrong I think as a hammer alone it's great but I try to look at other uses and think other do as well its like before they had a dedicated 1/4,3/8,1/2 impact wrenches we had/have adaptors for impact guns to accept sockets yes their not mid&high torque but for say little panel work before you carried around a sockets and ratchet than you carried the adapter and impact gun it improved work.
I maybe dreaming a little but I could see this tool being used in many ways or hope it can
A cordless air hammer for automotive would be awesome! Like a small chipping gun!
Do you think this or the palm nailer would work on smaller finishing nails? I have arthritis in my hands/wrists and this is an interesting concept to let me do more with less pain, but I need to be able to do smaller stuff not just big framing jobs. (For home DIY type things, I’m not a professional framer.)
@@TrappedinSLC So I haven't received this one yet(ordered) but I can say the palm nailer that Milwaukee sells from the videos looks biggerand bulkier also many mentioned how much vibration is transferred to the user one. If I remember correctly I think I saw a review comparing them and this had a better collar so it made using various nails easier. But traditionally a pneumatic palm nailer was made for framing nails in tight spots this to me just seems like a better option for me I can still swing a hammer but being paralyzed I figured neat tool to have for dyi use, but I do still own various pneumatic nail guns if I am doing a repetitive job & even though alot of companies have rechargeable nail guns I don't do as much work with them to justify the cost. Like I mentioned above I personally want to test it out on other things as well to see if I can make it work on other projects like an air chisel or air hammer

Yeah, Sears came out with those years ago as their Nextec Christmas Gadget of the year, in their new 12V line of Nextec cordless tools. I had one of them, used it along with getting the 12V compact Drill, and a Nut Driver. I'd have to say the tool line was pretty good over all. I used the Auto Hammer as you did for rough in of Electrical Boxes, and framing nails I couldn't get my hammer in between corner studs and around windows. Lost them all to a Flood.
Ahh that sucks.
I've also got a couple of those old Craftsman Nextec auto hammers. Great tools. They won't replace hammers in most applications but for precision and cases where you can't back-swing the hammer, such as electrical box installation, they are ideal. The whole Craftsman Nextec line was great, and they just phased them out at some point.
