Kurt Cobain's Childhood Home in Felony Flats Isn't What I Expected!

- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- This four bedroom house in the Felony Flats neighborhood of Aberdeen is up for sale at $500,000. Kurt Cobain lived in several homes in Aberdeen and this is actually one of the nicest ones of the lot.
Don't forget to check out all the Kurt Cobain videos on my channel, including a tour of his apartment in Olympia. And if you want to read the full story of my travels in the footsteps of Kurt Cobain, pick up my new book Breakfast with Polygamists: Dispatches from the Margins of The Americas. A short version of this piece was published in The New York Times, but the full unedited version of the piece includes some perspectives from Kurt's uncle, who still thinks Courtney had Kurt killed.

F off disrespectful ass hey hey bud come over here..play a chord..yea thats what i thought
The museum idea is a good one. They should try to restore and decorate it the way it looked when Kurt was a teenager.
thought exactly the same here!
Yes, it would be so perfect! I hope I'll visit Aberdeen some day... But it's so far away from the Czech Republic where I live :/
Martina Bártová
I hope you make your way up there someday! :)
+Martina Bártová Hey I'm a quarter Czech and I live in Aberdeen! My great grandparents came from Kunvold and Cerenice (correct spelling?) and settled here in the early 1900's. Someday I'd like to visit the Czech Republic.
ZatoichisCaneSword! Wow, it's amazing! You should definitely visit the Czech Republic, because it's a beautiful country! :) You're so lucky that you live in Aberdeen, I'd give everything to visit it there! :)
No one should ever touch that room, or the whole house. Wow, how amazing to look out his windows and see exactly what his eyes had seen. Bizarre feeling. To walk around that house knowing that he had touched so many surfaces and stood there. walked there...I know its weird but it is actually really cool. Hopefully someday I can go there and just stand in his room.
he was a druggy
I hope to go there someday too. I used to live fairly close to Aberdeen and I never visited. I regret that now. Because now I live on the east coast.
+Bringer of Light Phenox east coast sucks . Dont it? I live in Maryland. State of taxes.
THE ONE WHO KNOWS
Shit, that's funny! That is where I live now. And hell yes, I hate it here!
Bringer of Light Phenox yup,not Baltimore right?
There's a picture of Kurt and his sister sitting on that fireplace when they were little and its just so crazy looking at it now and knowing exactly where he was.
I looked for this picture on google because of your post. Its aweosme and now one of the most special Photos of him for me. Even the brighter stone in the first row beside his food good to see. Just awesome. Greetings from Germany.
@@nonnenbroich85 That's awesome, I'm happy someone else see's how special this is!
@@madisoncrane6423 yeah i see this very special. For me its very important not just see pictures or places with history, its more important to feel the history behind a picture or a place. Sounds Strange or weird but this is whats important to me.
Its true. Wow.
I'm off to Google Images now.....
"Here we have a hole that he punched in the wall" yep, that's kurt
youve just known him too well didnt ya
@@terrormilk384 Forreal, everyone on here knew Kurt personally lol
@@theblakex everyone everywhere someone makes some comment about Kurt Cobain, its sickening

I'd buy it, lay in Kurt's room, play Nirvana, and cry my eyes out. Don't ask.
+BenGames what? you're a fucking weirdo bruh
ZynxyHD weirdo. I liked Kurt but that is just fruity.
I'd probably do the same
Same
I understand
Just looking through his bedroom window gives me goosebumps
It gave me a boner!
His fart went out that window.
@@56cadd Rumor has it his fart still lingers there to this very day.
Dude, same here. I don't even know why, just some bizzare energy I feel
HUH
You know, if you look at his room, which was actually pretty nice and had a great view, it makes a lot of sense that he chose that certain room to end his life in. It had a lot of the same qualities that his childhood room did...nice view(trees),same shape and kinda hidden away from the rest of the main house.
RIP Kurt..
I still remember that day like yesterday. Not a dry eye around...
We all still miss you, man...
I have to agree. The room does have some resemble to the green house in which his body was found. Tragic day. The day music died. RIP KURT COBAIN!
we don't know that for sure tho
this is not where he died.
Kurt didn't die in this house
@@clintonyates437 you misunderstood the comment
I was just in that house today.. My dad and i went to take pics in front of it and thid lady came out and asked if we wanted a tour.. Little did we know later that she was kurts aunt when she introduced herself. It was very surreal and a dream come true. My heart was pounding and i felt the happiest ive ever been in a while
Wow that house is like taking a step back into the 60s and 70s..I wasn't born until the 80s but I remember older houses with the vintage shag carpets, wood panel and yellow refrigerators lol. It's kind of cool that this house hasn't changed. The price is ridiculous. Even if it's Kurts childhood home.
House is more then u baby
@@kurdt1980tf different kurt
It’s crazy when we think of time. LittleKurt sat next to the fireplace with his sister, he sat in those dining chairs. There’s a birthday pic of him at that dining table. If those walls could talk. Love to see his mom present the home.
Anyone else find this house and especially the carpet and Kurt's bedroom window view strangely familiar and nostalgic for some reason or just me?
Oh shit! You right😣😮😮
Same
Same, Maybe where apart of Kurt’s soul, what year were you born.(I was born in 2000) 😳
Most definitely 😢I see it.
That was the period he was discovering bi-polar tendencies. The deep sleep and music in his head. Yes, the view...him trying to imagine how the day was gonna go. ❤
I hate the people that are trying to change it
Shit has to change over time. Someone bought Jimi Hendrix's house too at some point and changed it. We can't live in 1970.
Same
As A huge kurt Cobain fan If i bought that house, I would not change a thing
The footage of the view from the window is so strangely beautiful. Wish the frame was held longer.

The house should be a historic landmark before some clueless person remodels the house one day. It should be preserved for history and Kurt's fans. It makes you feel nostalgic and close to Kurt's memory. I loved imaging young Kurt dreaming and playing where he was happy when his family was together.
Despite the insane amount of money they're asking for this house, a true fan needs to buy this house and preserve it. And you know what I'm thinking about it myself. Because if it's not a fan that buys it, they're going to tear everything down and it will be gone. So to the naysayers about a fan buying this house and turning it into a museum, it is a hell of a lot better then it being redone.
No moron is going to overpay 10 times the value for a house in Aberdeen and then tear it down. Anyone buying this house is going to be a Nirvana fan.
I think they should buy it and not do anything with it.
Mike S. true 😆😆
whats to think bout? but it if u can
Way cool, thanks for sharing! Lot of nirvana fans never make it up there to see cool stuff like this, piece of history, and another piece of the puzzle
A carpeted kitchen seems like a mad fire hazard
I wonder if the same neighbors are still living there when Kurt was in his childhood days. Would be cool if they actually did and came forward to tell stories how he was around the block.
I can imagine him looking out that window while in a depressed state, hearing the words in his head: "Something in the way"
Oh😔
I live just down the road from his house see it every day
I feel like id feel so at home here. Even watching this comforts me in a way that my own home cant. If i could i would just sit in kurts room and play guitar
Gives you a better sense of feeling for when you listen to "Something in the Way."
That´s is amazing!!
Thank you for making this video!! I´m a huge fan of nirvana and kurt cobain,, and i´m brazilian,,, so i never had a chance to know places like this one..
The fire place and the chairs still the same!! You can see them in the pictures of kurt´s childhood... That´s really amazingl!!
it must of been an interesting experience growing up in that house . im not sure how long he must of lived there but , they say that musicians emotional imprints through their music is influenced where they lived , how they lived , and what did to get by . i bet his childhood was something to take in and understand where a lot of his emotions came from .
Must HAVE!
wow, to look out through the same windows that Kurt was weird and great at the same time... and sad. We miss him so much.
That house is gorgeous. I’m in love with the 70s and knowing he ran through that house! I wouldn’t touch anything to remodel it!
Damn, no wonder Kurt was so depressed.
Its easy to think that...but the house is not that bad, and I doubt he was depressed when he was younger, and if he was it would have been about his parents splitting up more so than the house (in my opinion).
I mean...he had his own room, and that view out of his bedroom window...that's actually allot better than what many people have I recon, instead of just seeing houses on the opposite side of the street and nothing else, there's actually some wildlife to see...would prob look very nice with the sun rising.
kurt said he had a happy life till his parents divorced so that would have been while he was living here
if you ever go to Aberdeen you'll understand partially why. Pretty ghetto and always overcast/rainy.
I would hardly call this a ghetto neighborhood. Look at North Camden, NJ and compare, haha.
Why? It's actually quite beautiful.
That lady scared the shit out of me
Melomania what lady?
yeah me too lmao
shit. never wanted to buy a house this much in my life. they even say it's got a high paranormal activity rate. who ever gets to buy this house is lucky
AnxiousAndAnnoyed *wakes up to hearing someone screaming the chorus to Floyd the barber* *sees a floating guitar I. The living room and gets knocked the fuck out by the guitar*
AnxiousAndAnnoyed - I wonder if the paranormal activity there contributed to Kurt's depression. I get a really heavy and despondent vibe from that place.
Joseph Dockemeyer you’ve been?
How do you know? I’ve never heard that but that’s so interesting!!
LOL who's "they"
I just went to visit this house yesterday. The house is entirely gated off. Padlocks and all. All the next door neighbors houses have cameras to boot. Front door is closed off and theres an unplugged advert taped over the window. Sucks I was a little too late to actually see the house in its full former glory. I hope the new owners have respect for the place and dont gut the history from it. It was truly surreal. Had a feeling to it the park the house and the neighborhood I can't describe. Awesome video.
Interesting. Thanks so much for the update. It is a shame. This is a part of history.
and now... you're in a laundry room. Moving on.
The sappy room
Man if I had 500,000 laying around I would buy this! it's awesome how theres still a hole in the wall where he punched it!! shit like thats cool. hopefully the holes in my wall become famous someday
yes it's so cool to see how something's "survided" for so long. I mean, dude! When did he punch that wall? 30 years ago? and it's still there! Also we can probably find his digitals on the walls and stuff. It's just so incredible
How do we know that wasnt done by someone else? Is it documented in a book or movie or doc?
If I bought it, I would have to live in it, as I will have no spare money for an other home. Will have to put up with the old carpets and paper wall 🤮.
I can only imagine the enegry still sitting around hes prob haunting the place now
@@sarahlouise6507 it would be awesome to be haunted by kurt cobain lol
I was just there yesterday. It's an interesting town for sure, but both times I've been to Aberdeen, it was nice and sunny. The road there from Seattle is beautiful. Ocean shores is also very nice and that's next to it. But Aberdeen is like a time capsule almost. I saw Kurt's house. Pretty decent compared to some of the others.
Omg I love how everything is still not renovated and in original states!
You know, actually Kurt wouldn't like to know that his childhood house is a museum. As he was, I think he would like it to be a normal house. But i'll keep the hole and the graffitis X)
Ashierkun i know right
I can hear his voice in my head as I think "it's just a house"
Actually that "I hate my own music and being a rockstar thing" was all part of an image he pushed and people loved and (he certainly wasnt the first to think of it) (the tortured rockstar who hates being famous thing was old news by the time Kurt did it .. He just took it to new heights!) Kurt would absolutely love that his childhood home is somekind of museum. Dont be decieved bud. Grow up
I don't think so! A 53-year-old Kurt Cobain would have probably liked the idea of a museum. In 2020, he would not be that 27-year-old heroin addict anymore. His fame would have probably even vanished. If he was still alive today, he would have grow older and mature like we all do. I went to Aberdeen and saw the house with my own eyes. I walked on the lawn but I coudn't get inside the house. I would like to see that house being turned into a museum about Cobain's childhood and teenagehood. Heck! I would even rent rooms to spend the night there, have rock jams in the basement, and throw house parties for Nirvana fans. This house really means something for so many people around the world. It's more than just a house. What's more, ''His family are also interested in partnering with a buyer interested in turning the house into a museum.'' Source: www.theguardian.com/music/gallery/2013/sep/25/kurt-cobain-home-sale-pictures
@EpicUndead I don't think that we can speculate either that he wouldn't have liked to see his childhood house turned into a museum like some people say on this thread.
In Liverpool, both Paul McCartney's and John Lennon's chilhood houses were turned into a museum. Why could'nt we do it with Kurt Cobain's childhood house?
Kurt Cobain showed a cynical, sarcastic, and I don't give a damn kind of attitude in the media. But in fact, he was really serious with his music and ambitious with his band.
There are already thousands of people visiting Aberdeen every year just because it is Kurt Cobain's birthplace. Let's turn this gem of a house into a museum. And I don't care what Kurt would have thought about it. It's not for him. It's for the fans and the history of rock music.
My mom lives.across the alley from this house. His mom is the sweetest thing my mom talked to her when her boyfriend was treating her real bad
Looks depressing years later when it's empty and we know that someone who lived here decided to end it.
He didnt decide to someone else took over his life anf ended him he had a rough life but now he's free provably roaming thw house pissed off
It's so stupid thing to take off his graffiti from the wall! I'm pissed
If you look at the video of the corner motel room in LA where Kurt liked to hide out you will notice that the view from that motel window is very reminiscent of this view from his bedroom window. Straight down a street.
The picture of him as a kid with the guitar Ive seen must have been taken in the hall outside of the room their claiming to be his bedroom. In the old photo the door knob is on the right and it is a wood shingled room. The bedroom in this vid is sheet rocked with the door knob on the left. Stop this video at 2:39 and I think that is where that old photo is taken.
Great call.
You're absolutely right. Been saying this for years!
Amazing to think a young creative genius lived in that house.
nice bleach pun
;)
I would fucking buy this and preserve all the things.
It’s so crazy to see this and look at all of the photos he’s taken there. Him on the stairs with his siblings, the fireplace, his birthday, Halloween, even old videos where he was playing guitar. Just wow, I hope nobody messes with the house too much
That’s a beautiful idea to restore it and turn it into a museum!! Maybe even have his mom, his sister and Frances help with the restoration, and even cut the red ribbon for the ceremony!!
lol
My family and I go to Ocean Shores every year and we always drive past this house when we go through Aberdeen. I've had my picture taken in front of it many times.
Man, i'd love to go there and just stand in Kurt's room, just that Is all I want, It was a importante place for him. And Is beautiful. All The memories and time he spended in that room, made him the legend he Is now
Vibes. Thanks for the tour.
Lol $500k. I love the historic value, but seriously. Half a million can buy so much more.
I would buy that house because I'm a huge nirvana fan and its worth every penny and also because its really not that much its worth it
@@josheubank8986 It is a lot as it is way over what nearby houses are worth.
It ought to be taken over {at market value} by something similar to ''The National Trust'' in UK ..T?he house would be kept the same, but maintained, and maybe made like a 'Family home ' again, but of the era. {they did this with one of the Beatle's old childhood homes, I think.}
But asking $350k is crazy...especially as some of the graffiti is now missing. The carpets are pretty grim and would need cleaning.
I'd rather buy this little house in Aberdeen for half a million dollar than one of those soulless multi-million dollar condos in downtown Vancouver.
@@vincentlagrange2329 It ought to have been taken on as a museum...A real shame the graffiti has been stolen.
Leave it as a museum! ☺
Thanx for sharing. I'm a big nirvana fan and 1 thing on my bucket list is to visit Seattle and some of kurts places, Aberdeen etc. This is so cool. Thank u.
Наши желания совпали. Я из России, и прежде, чем умереть, хочу попасть в Абердин и пройтись по местам Курта.
Awesome. Thanks for the tour.
For the record, People here still call this area "Felony Flats". Other than the overprice rent in Aberdeen, not much has changed.
C'est incroyable de voir que rien n'a changé. On se croirait en plein les années 70's
Great vid, thanks for sharing. :)
You walked out of one bathroom and into another and said wow I think there’s only one bathroom in this house??!

Thank you so much for this video, i miss you kurt cobain, and miss you Band Nirvana,, You become a legendary band around the World Forever :)
It's pretty nice house. And nice neighborhood. I like the view from Kurts bedroom window...
Thank you for showing this!
I like all.of his little cool houses. Home sweet home for sure. Memories during his childhood days. Up to his 27 years on this earth. Rest easy, Kurt Cobain. 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Love the cedar shake shingles on the wall...love it keep it as is
this vid breaks my heart
I would love to just sit in kurts room and play some nirvana songs on my phone so i can put kurts voice in that room one more time..
If you look at old photos the wall is actually some kind of wood effect which you can see through the hole. Guessing they covered it over with plaster bored and faked some graffiti claiming it was kurts
500k for a house that on a fucking miracle day would get 50k just because kurt kobain was at one point living there. That house needs gutted and redone completely probably a good 30-40k in work to be sold for 125k
My Daughter and Son are in their 40's now. I have a picture of them sitting on Kurt Cobain's porch stairs at this house!
Damn the view outside his bedroom window is hella depressing, no wonder he made that crazy music!
This was amazing
Kurt's room still seems to vibrate, it seems the most "alive" room in the whole house. In that room Kurt dreamed and mentally saw everything he would become: those walls absorbed all his emotions. The first "sexual masturbation", the anger, the exaltation, the sadness, the desire... all compressed in that room. Who knows how many times he will have touched the curtains on the window ... it's all very fascinating.
That room is filled with his breath.
I'd live in this house.
***** No you wouldn't. That area of town is full of sex offenders and criminals. After a week you would be more than ready to go back to where you came from. I lived in the neighboring town. It was less known but much safer. No hookers or heroin. No one shitting in your yard or shooting up. They should move the house to Seattle ANd THEN make it into a museum.

I live in Alabama, my neighborhood is the exact same damn way, it wouldn't surprise me.
LOL Pretty much!
Damn, it’s that fucked up in Aberdeen?
“Nothing a little “bleach” couldnt help out with” ha ha.. good one mate
The staircase is actually really cool with the wood shingles. I stood in front of this house in 2011. Aberdeen is really rough and depressing. The view out of his window is nice. Maybe someone will buy it and turn it into an AirBnB! I’d stay there for a weekend, after some renovations....
Now that's a depressing thought. To turn Kurt's childhood home into an Airbnb
How is there only one bathroom when you just showed the one off of the laundry room? Hhmmmm
It's not going to sell because it is haunted with kurt's pain and the mistreatment he had to endure. People can feel it.
holy fuck this is the best video i've seen man, thank you
Two blocks away is east market street go 3 blocks past 7-11 and you will cross the Wishkah river, underneath the bridge is Kurt Cobains personal getaway where he jammed out. underneath the bridge is covered with R.I.P messages and graffiti and a memory statue. Easily accessible kinda muddy and smells like urine
what a strangely designed house. looks cozy though. would love to live in something like this someday.
No, turning it into a museum only increases the risk of the house being damaged over time...It's a small house anyway, that would not work.
those dining chairs are from kurt's childhood. there is a picture of him sitting in one at a piano. same curvature.
WOW TYSM FOR THE VIDEO 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱🤩🤩🤩
There was a small vid of Kurt playing a toy guitar when he was probably about 6 or 5 and it was in front of the fireplace but the fireplace was pink and yellow
I used to work near there. Even for its “historical value”, $500k is ridiculous for anything in lower Aberdeen
Great footage. If I had the cash I would preserve and share it
There is a picture of Kurt sitting in front of that fire place with his mother in 1970.
Google Kurt and Kim fireplace and you can see a picture of them sitting in front of the fireplace at 0:39
Dude, I drive by that house daily. He was just a guy who shit on his hometown, not realizing where he was from made him who he was. I'm PROUD to say that my son will grow up in a town full of great people, people who are willing to help each other, who will do anything for you.
