The Big Piney is a very overlooked Ozarks float stream. I once caught 11 smallmouth in one hole of water the weekend before the season opens. We were canoeing with other couples up around Jerome and I was the only one fishing. My wife and I were in the front of the group. As we went down a riffle into a pool I looked down and saw it was full of fish. I told my wife to pull over and we waited for everyone to go past. Once things had settled down I threw a brown tube jig into the riffle and bounced it down into the pool. I hooked a fish on every cast. The largest would have gone about 3 pounds. That was the best single spot and best day fishing of my life. I'm a 6th generation Scots-Irish Missouri Ozarks hillbilly. I've been fishing Ozarks streams for 60 years.
I've only caught two of the Google Eyes on a creek here in Alabama. Identical catches..both hit a white Rooster tail .05 seconds after it hit the water. Rock Bass do the same.
Are u on the upper or lower end? Here on the upper end u fish rivers edge for smallmouth. Right against bluff sides and downed tree covers the best bet. Also its a goggle eye not googley eye 😉
Hahaha. Ya….someone already corrected me on that. 😂 I’ve just always known them as rock bass. Not sure what end I was on. I had pecks last resort shuttle me if that makes sense.
@@nocoastangling u were on the lower end then, the big piney runs north so it gets confusing sometimes lol. I need to make more trips to the lower end cause there arent many catfish on the upper.
Love that river! Live crawdads hooked through the tail (hook through the bottom of tail up) with a large split shot 16-24” above hook can yield some great small mouth action. 👍🏼
I’m sure every Missouri bass fisherman can relate to that intro. Unfortunately due to terrible regulations and massive floods the numbers of bass have gone down exponentially

Might try beetle spin, rooster tail and also a small rattle trap. Some of my best river fish were on top water with a torpedo.
Rock Bass = goggle eye her in Missouri.
Your definitely not from Missouri
🤦🏻♂️true story! Hahahaha I’m an idiot that can’t pronounce the names of fish. 🤣🤣🤣 been gettin beat up a lot for it amongst other things. 😂
