Ven's arc to me is about standing up for himself. he's always felt like the kid of the group, when Aqua and Terra argue over something he just doesn't know how to deal with it. i love in radiant garden when he gives them lifetime passes to Disney Town and his voice immediately deflates when he says "to take two grown-ups". by his own admission he feels like a child, which is kinda relatable imo. him standing up to Vanitas in Dive, while not the climax of some narrative arc with good foreshadowing like KH1 Sora's, still remains as a very enjoyable moment. i also agree with Roxas, him saying Sora "makes a good other" was already a good send-off, and while i initially had mixed feelings about the FM-exclusive cutscene after the fight, it makes excellent closure after Days. i wouldn't have been against them doing some more stuff with Roxas, i would've loved a Roxas form in place of Rage form with similar mechanics, but him coming back as his own person in 3 feels like a takeback on the narrative. i'm still happy for him, but when he and especially Xion come back, i'm like "wheres the emotional investment?" i disagree that Terra is a power-seeking whiny whatever that wanted daddy xehanort to give him everything he wanted, he wanted Xehanort to approve of him, but didn't know of his plans, and Eraqus dies fighting Terra simply because he wanted to protect Ven. the only time power comes up is when he says "strength to protect what matters" which is something he believes he already has. 3:29:17 goddamn, fuck this asshole of a fight

For the BBS argument, I do think that BBS wasn't well thought out in terms of characters. You could honestly tell that Aqua was going to be the main character of that trio. They didn't know what they wanted out of Ventus and even if they did, they didn't do a good enough job of explaining or using it to help flesh out his character. If there was to be a BBS remake, I would want to see more of Ventus being reserved, broken, like you can tell that something inside him is missing but those feelings get pushed down the more times he gets to act like a kid, like when he met and hung out with Lea and Isa. Make Vanitus more like a bad memory for Ventus that is giving him PTSD the more he is around him as Ventus steadily remembers the time that is now known in Union X from him being controlled and used as a vessel of darkness. It would also explain why he is trying so hard to find Terra, whether subconsciously or not, Ventus knows what being controlled by the dark is like and doesn't want his best friend and older brother figure to fall to that only to be confronted by his past finally as Vanitus attempts to become one again, making him have to put himself first before Terra by fighting against his darkness's control and has to put Aqua above that as he strikes himself down. (Though could honestly of done the Kingdom Hearts 1 strike himself the very dramatic way, but instead it was after coming out of being mind controlled, being rather traumatic for Aqua, as Ventus, in her eyes, would rather die than let there be any chance of him losing himself and killing Aqua) Terra though, they definitely didn't do right. They could have done something much more. Terra could see master Xehanort like more of a teacher than Eraqus if he showed up a little more often. They could have done some of the worlds where law and order was put first to make Terra helping the villain be something he doesn't realize he is doing till the end. Listening to Xehanort's suggestions only for later suggestions to be ones he starts hesitating to follow but unfortunately doing just enough to "fulfill" the request. It could take a closer role of making Terra see the world being more dark than ever before because of what all cruelties he is being shown, allowing Xehanort to continue feeding into Terra's mind, implanting the idea that "darkness is in everyone, many will exploit it and that is why darkness should be used to reset life" of course, it would be something that is only portrayed closer to the end, the last world being when he reveals "reset all life" to which Terra would have always and forever said been against, which would lead to Xehanort taunting him to stop him then, giving the location of the graveyard only for Xehanort to take his body because of it. Then of course, he wouldn't account for that rage to take over the lingering suit that he was leaving behind, the last will to keep the Xehanort from swallowing the worlds to darkness. Vanitus is a character that I would have liked to see be more fleshed out. It was revealed that he is one of the 13 true darknesses that finally regained a form again, which is why I can understand the unrestrained attitude that he has. He continues to mock and push Ventus because he is still incomplete but as long as he gets negative emotions out of him, Vanitus will continue to grow stronger. But it would also be nice to see him interact with other characters. And second is during the incredibly forced conflict between the trio, where Aqua, 10 minutes after denying the accusations made towards Terra, starts yelling at him, claiming "she's seen what he's done"; which is immediately followed by both Terra and Ven getting mad at her for daring to follow their Master's orders, as if that was somehow crossing the line and letting her responsibilities get over her head. The first scene is far more about Eraqus and Xehanort's views on Darkness and Light than it is about being Aqua's status as a Keyblade Master, and the second is simply bad writing that contributes to the notion that TVA's friendship isn't believable or well written. All she's got otherwise is a few nice moments with Zack and Hercules (Which, to be fair, is the same for Terra and Ven), that useless plot point about her being a replacement of some sort for Terra, that goes nowhere, makes no sense, and only exists to justify having a few boss fights with Vanitas, and I guess this cute scene with the shoe in Castle of Dreams. Outside of that, she's the most nothing of characters, showing up in a world, being told to fix whats left of the plot started by Terra and Ven, doing so, and then leaving for the next one, without the story doing anything of note with her besides the most basic of aesops. Compare that to Terra, who's the closest one to having a full character arc through the entire story, even if it isn't done well, or Ventus, who, even if his Disney visits serve no purpose whatsoever story wise, has a lot of good character interactions with the Disney cast, and it becomes apparent how little the game does with Aqua in BBS beyond having her clean up after everyone's already left. Mind you, I like Aqua in 0.2, but BBS Aqua isn't fleshed out in the slightest.

There is a scene when Ven fights Vanitus for the first time in the arena where Sora fights Lingering Will in KH2FM. He is taken back by Vanitus and watching that scene again recently, it would have been super interesting if Ven had some start of a realization to who Vanitus is. Starting to get a glimpse of his past but no. He just gets angy and proceeds to have fight Mikey shows up. There is a story that COULD be told. I'm also a little jaded because of how much I just loath BBS.
@@ludward She does go around fixing the mistakes of her friends and you could honestly say that that is her entire character. The motherly figure that is always trying to fix the mistakes of those closest to her. From the beginning of the story she has always been trying to take care for them and help fix their problems, in a way you could say that she was "at her peak" before terra left with ventus chasing after him but as the story progresses, that light of hers steadily starts to flicker as it reaches closer to the keyblade graveyard where she almost lost both of them to darkness, one being forced to fall to slumber while the other ends up losing his memories, but till the end, she is trying to fix everything only to end up in the worst position out of the three. I do think that she had the clearest story out of the three with some great interactions with other characters, not perfect but out of the 3, i do think that she wasn't as Roxas as ventus's or as blocky as terra's interactions. But that is why i would want a revision of their story. I would want a revision of the story if just to not have the character canonically say "people die when they are killed" Nothing about their reason for leaving or objective when they are in a world has to change but I would love to see the characters be more like people than "ok I believe you" for the sake of making the disney world move as it is meant to. Give the evil queen a more charismatic line to give Terra so he isn't an idiot just agreeing to kill an innocent young girl. Like say "my mirror tells the future and that young girl going to bring ruin to the kingdom" despite us knowing the mirror doesn't, terra doesn't know that the mirror only tells present truths so allowing him to ask the mirror a question that it will tell the truth of so he actually starts believing the queens words, only for him to not do it because the princess is to kind and innocent for him to take direct action against.

If they could revise the story I would actually appreciate at least sitting down and watching the cutscenes even if playing the game put me to sleep or made me want to jump off a bridge. All I need to say to anyone who tries to defend BBS's story is to watch the opening cutscenes with the 3 characters. That's my evidence for how dogshit the writing is when honestly, the three characters from the beginning of the game are faced with a quest they can't win. Literally by the end of the game all three meet an unfortunate outcome even if they did stop Xehanort. The story has no right not being good. It SHOULD be good. Especially with the context we have now for Ven there is a way to make all three characters not idiotic and all interesting to see their story play out. I also do really love the idea of having a perspective of each characters journey. I thought the idea was really cool but it's barely fleshed out. Gameplay wise it just gives you different bosses to fight and story wise not a whole lot is done with it in a interesting way.
All of this, and what the other folks also replying are saying, is what makes me hope that if that KH animated series ever happens that was rumored at one point, that they would be able to rethink some of these plot lines and character arcs to make them more fleshed out and concise. Because these games have been pretty much made up as they went but if that series ever happens they could take everything and just say ‘here is the true version of what happens’ or something along those lines.

You could never get multiple High Jumps, but the stacking effect is not part of the original game. What I said is that even if you would get multiple High Jumps, they wouldn't stack. There is additional code in the randomizer that allows those abilities to stack in the first place.
@1:00:55 Honestly, I would have made it so that Roxas was actually Ventus's Nobody to complete the cycle from when Vanitas was created. Vanitas would look like Sora because Ventus reached out to Sora when Sora was an infant, and later on, after Ventus joined with Sora's Heart, when Sora became a Heartless, Ventus's heart was house inside Roxas, giving him Ventus's look. Xion, being a copy of Sora and mimicked so much of what Roxas does, she looked like Ventus to Xigbar. Considering Xigbar/Braig's long complexed history, there are a myriad of reasons why Xion would look like Ventus, but that could be one of them. Thoughts?
I'm really hoping the KHUx stuff with Ventus leads into a really good arc in the future games. Also Vanitas's whole deal is he's the dark mirror to Sora. He knows about the connections between hearts and he uses that knowledge to manipulate the trio.
KH3 Rando would be just tedious due to San Fransokyo and the Caribbean so idk about that. Also if you want to see a "kickass Roxas mod" check out "Project Nobody May Cry", that dude is making some amazing shit. And last thing, I love every single Roxas scene in the franchise (still haven't finished KH3), even in DDD, I don't know how Nomura does it, but it's the only character I consistently like in any game he's in.
I think Roxas brings out the best in Nomura's writing style, I think he really does best at writing stories about interacting with human emotions as emotions, rather then forces, KH1-2 Riku shows this a lot too, the whole range Riku goes through and the way he realizes he dun fucked up is the powerful part, the Heartless and Darkness and how they prey on emotions serve as a vehicle and impetus, rather then the content of his story 358 works because the slog is well seasoned with Roxas's growing emotions in all ranges(comfort, and then boredom and distaste with his Job, and his sparking friendships and subsequent troubles with them) "No one would miss me" "Thats wrong.... I would...." is a really fuckin strong scene too
Roxas talk nonsense: The reason the Nobody's we know mesh with their original selves again just fine is because of a continuity of self, persistence of memory means that while they might have a new heart, there's no dissonance in who they are, A leads to B leads to C and the differences can reconcile Roxas and Xion are DIFFERENT because they lack memories and the fully inherited personality of such, Roxas is still a do-gooder dork, sure, but he only ever lives life as Roxas, not as a phase of life for Sora, who Roxas is does not smoothly extend from who Sora was, and conflict is born meanwhile Xion exists in a multi-level high-rise of "FUCKIN NONSENSE" that still leads to not returning to Sora, or anyone else, as a sensible fragment, Namine is kinda the same way as Roxas, someone who exists not as an extension of their original but as someone new, but that Witch explicitly defies every known law of reality about beings existing anyway, to the point of the only way to define her being Witch Living as themselves also is kinda Xion's whole arc, even moreso then Roxas, everyone sees her as a medium for someone or something else, except Roxas, and eventually Axel, they see her for herself, some people seemed confused why she looked like she did to everyone in KH3(I think thats cause some people thought even that appearance was impressed upon her by Roxas and the memories, without any self-actualization in it), and that's because she's not this hell-vacuum super replica anymore, she's just herself, and defined by her Self, their whole fight in RE:Mind is pretty much about that, I don't know if there was supposed to be some actual power to the X they broke, but the symbolism is distinctly about owning themselves and their bond, and saying that Xemnas has no power over it despite his arguable role in its creation Ironically I find Vanitas more interesting then Ven, there's a lot of potential about who and what he is, he has an actual personality, even if its largely snark and 'tude, and KH3 kinda acknowledges that he has potential to be more... but he spits at it, he's anger and anguish and pain and he refuses to be anything more, he'd rather die as himself instead of change into someone less twisted
So something I noticed is that I think the critical hit ratio and crit chances are retained with the keyblades (at least as of this rando patch, can't say what it's like now) so One Winged Angel is actually your best keyblade, as it was critting constantly and doing a boatload of damage. That's how i would've played it, at least.
41:35 plus there is also something to be said for enjoyment value vs "how good is the game as a game". a lot of people clash over games like kh3 and 3d bc they cant separate those two values. just my opinion anyways
Ultimately even though the BBS characters are not that well written, I still they have a good amount of charm and their designs are nice too. BBS could have simply done with more "unique" characterization, the ultimate problem this series keeps running into, is trying to make every character in some way nice or good except villains when each hero character should still have some selfishness and their own specific desires. Sora and Riku worked well because they both used what was happening and grew because of it, Riku started as a jealous type that wanted to lead everyone. Sora started as a wide-eyed type that wanted to impress others. They both grew back into friends and into who they are through great hardships. Aqua, Terra and Ven just sort of stay the same and KH3 gave like no scenes showing how they've changed or how they react to everything after they've been freed.
Vanitas is a being brought into this world to be used as a tool, and feels abandoned by ven (vanitas novel possibly noncanon). His negative emotions are visible to the eye in the form of the unversed, which shows that all he feels are dark emotions like rage and sadness. The novel adds that he feels pin each time an unversed is destroyed which creates an infinite loop of creating an unversed from anger or pain, that unversed is destroyed which then creates another unversed. It's possible that this would drive him mad especially with xehanort influencing him to be his pure darkness for his plan. If they change everything about vanitas in the future I'll be so upset cause the novel and my interpretation of it makes me feel like he had potential. A being ripped apart from his other half, driven mad by his emotions and the creatures and pain they created until he accepted xehanort's plans after becoming so twisted

@@ludward She does go around fixing the mistakes of her friends and you could honestly say that that is her entire character. The motherly figure that is always trying to fix the mistakes of those closest to her. From the beginning of the story she has always been trying to take care for them and help fix their problems, in a way you could say that she was "at her peak" before terra left with ventus chasing after him but as the story progresses, that light of hers steadily starts to flicker as it reaches closer to the keyblade graveyard where she almost lost both of them to darkness, one being forced to fall to slumber while the other ends up losing his memories, but till the end, she is trying to fix everything only to end up in the worst position out of the three.
I do think that she had the clearest story out of the three with some great interactions with other characters, not perfect but out of the 3, i do think that she wasn't as Roxas as ventus's or as blocky as terra's interactions. But that is why i would want a revision of their story. I would want a revision of the story if just to not have the character canonically say "people die when they are killed"
Nothing about their reason for leaving or objective when they are in a world has to change but I would love to see the characters be more like people than "ok I believe you" for the sake of making the disney world move as it is meant to. Give the evil queen a more charismatic line to give Terra so he isn't an idiot just agreeing to kill an innocent young girl. Like say "my mirror tells the future and that young girl going to bring ruin to the kingdom" despite us knowing the mirror doesn't, terra doesn't know that the mirror only tells present truths so allowing him to ask the mirror a question that it will tell the truth of so he actually starts believing the queens words, only for him to not do it because the princess is to kind and innocent for him to take direct action against.

If they could revise the story I would actually appreciate at least sitting down and watching the cutscenes even if playing the game put me to sleep or made me want to jump off a bridge. All I need to say to anyone who tries to defend BBS's story is to watch the opening cutscenes with the 3 characters. That's my evidence for how dogshit the writing is when honestly, the three characters from the beginning of the game are faced with a quest they can't win. Literally by the end of the game all three meet an unfortunate outcome even if they did stop Xehanort. The story has no right not being good. It SHOULD be good. Especially with the context we have now for Ven there is a way to make all three characters not idiotic and all interesting to see their story play out.
I also do really love the idea of having a perspective of each characters journey. I thought the idea was really cool but it's barely fleshed out. Gameplay wise it just gives you different bosses to fight and story wise not a whole lot is done with it in a interesting way.
All of this, and what the other folks also replying are saying, is what makes me hope that if that KH animated series ever happens that was rumored at one point, that they would be able to rethink some of these plot lines and character arcs to make them more fleshed out and concise. Because these games have been pretty much made up as they went but if that series ever happens they could take everything and just say ‘here is the true version of what happens’ or something along those lines.

You could never get multiple High Jumps, but the stacking effect is not part of the original game. What I said is that even if you would get multiple High Jumps, they wouldn't stack. There is additional code in the randomizer that allows those abilities to stack in the first place.

Honestly, I would have made it so that Roxas was actually Ventus's Nobody to complete the cycle from when Vanitas was created. Vanitas would look like Sora because Ventus reached out to Sora when Sora was an infant, and later on, after Ventus joined with Sora's Heart, when Sora became a Heartless, Ventus's heart was house inside Roxas, giving him Ventus's look. Xion, being a copy of Sora and mimicked so much of what Roxas does, she looked like Ventus to Xigbar.
Considering Xigbar/Braig's long complexed history, there are a myriad of reasons why Xion would look like Ventus, but that could be one of them.

I'm really hoping the KHUx stuff with Ventus leads into a really good arc in the future games. Also Vanitas's whole deal is he's the dark mirror to Sora. He knows about the connections between hearts and he uses that knowledge to manipulate the trio.
KH3 Rando would be just tedious due to San Fransokyo and the Caribbean so idk about that.
Also if you want to see a "kickass Roxas mod" check out "Project Nobody May Cry", that dude is making some amazing shit.
And last thing, I love every single Roxas scene in the franchise (still haven't finished KH3), even in DDD, I don't know how Nomura does it, but it's the only character I consistently like in any game he's in.
I think Roxas brings out the best in Nomura's writing style, I think he really does best at writing stories about interacting with human emotions as emotions, rather then forces, KH1-2 Riku shows this a lot too, the whole range Riku goes through and the way he realizes he dun fucked up is the powerful part, the Heartless and Darkness and how they prey on emotions serve as a vehicle and impetus, rather then the content of his story

Roxas and Xion are DIFFERENT because they lack memories and the fully inherited personality of such, Roxas is still a do-gooder dork, sure, but he only ever lives life as Roxas, not as a phase of life for Sora, who Roxas is does not smoothly extend from who Sora was, and conflict is born
meanwhile Xion exists in a multi-level high-rise of "FUCKIN NONSENSE" that still leads to not returning to Sora, or anyone else, as a sensible fragment, Namine is kinda the same way as Roxas, someone who exists not as an extension of their original but as someone new, but that Witch explicitly defies every known law of reality about beings existing anyway, to the point of the only way to define her being Witch
Living as themselves also is kinda Xion's whole arc, even moreso then Roxas, everyone sees her as a medium for someone or something else, except Roxas, and eventually Axel, they see her for herself, some people seemed confused why she looked like she did to everyone in KH3(I think thats cause some people thought even that appearance was impressed upon her by Roxas and the memories, without any self-actualization in it), and that's because she's not this hell-vacuum super replica anymore, she's just herself, and defined by her Self, their whole fight in RE:Mind is pretty much about that, I don't know if there was supposed to be some actual power to the X they broke, but the symbolism is distinctly about owning themselves and their bond, and saying that Xemnas has no power over it despite his arguable role in its creation
Ironically I find Vanitas more interesting then Ven, there's a lot of potential about who and what he is, he has an actual personality, even if its largely snark and 'tude, and KH3 kinda acknowledges that he has potential to be more... but he spits at it, he's anger and anguish and pain and he refuses to be anything more, he'd rather die as himself instead of change into someone less twisted

So something I noticed is that I think the critical hit ratio and crit chances are retained with the keyblades (at least as of this rando patch, can't say what it's like now) so One Winged Angel is actually your best keyblade, as it was critting constantly and doing a boatload of damage.

Ultimately even though the BBS characters are not that well written, I still they have a good amount of charm and their designs are nice too.
BBS could have simply done with more "unique" characterization, the ultimate problem this series keeps running into, is trying to make every character in some way nice or good except villains when each hero character should still have some selfishness and their own specific desires.
Sora and Riku worked well because they both used what was happening and grew because of it, Riku started as a jealous type that wanted to lead everyone. Sora started as a wide-eyed type that wanted to impress others.
They both grew back into friends and into who they are through great hardships.
Aqua, Terra and Ven just sort of stay the same and KH3 gave like no scenes showing how they've changed or how they react to everything after they've been freed.

Vanitas is a being brought into this world to be used as a tool, and feels abandoned by ven (vanitas novel possibly noncanon). His negative emotions are visible to the eye in the form of the unversed, which shows that all he feels are dark emotions like rage and sadness. The novel adds that he feels pin each time an unversed is destroyed which creates an infinite loop of creating an unversed from anger or pain, that unversed is destroyed which then creates another unversed. It's possible that this would drive him mad especially with xehanort influencing him to be his pure darkness for his plan.
If they change everything about vanitas in the future I'll be so upset cause the novel and my interpretation of it makes me feel like he had potential. A being ripped apart from his other half, driven mad by his emotions and the creatures and pain they created until he accepted xehanort's plans after becoming so twisted
