I have to agree with you on quite a few of your points. I just ordered a 2023 GMC 1 ton pro 4-door standard bed truck with every option you can get for a pro.Even though I have a 21 version of the same thing but a 3/4 ton. The mirrors is probably my biggest gripe. I truly think that GM should offer the power folding and power extending across the line for all of the heavy duty trucks because having to jump out and fold them in. Just to get into some parking spaces where I'm at in Arizona is a major pain!!
@@JB_WhoWork yeah I have two agree with you. It's ridiculous. I'm more about the base model type trucks, then the higher end stuff but even still as big as these trucks are getting nowadays got to have at least the power folding and extending mirrors and a huge oversized fuel tank
My biggest gripe about my 22 - 3500 is the tow mirrors. I used to be an RV tech in the late 70's thru the 80's. Those were the days when most trucks had good tow mirrors on them. You could actually see the side and wheels of the trailer instead of just the front corner. Todays truck mirrors don't come close to those of the good ole days.
My first thing I hate is not actively being able to see what gear I’m running in!!! Second - fuel tank. Third - some high tie down loops along the top of the bed - low bearing weight if needed
My main gripe with my 21 and my 24 is the dome lights, they're horrible. I live out in the desert and it can be pretty black at night here, my 21 had black interior and the dome lights were almost worthless, my 24 has walnut interior , it's a little better, but not good. Another minor gripe is the lack of a 12 volt outlet in the truck. I keep a portable fridge/freezer behind the driver seat, in my 21 you could leave the fridge powered on overnight with no issues. I now have to use the 110v ac adaptor and the power shuts off with the ignition. Overall I love the truck.
Test drove one this week. Shocked that the tow mirrors (esp. the blind spot mirrors) are not powered. The salesman said I have to do it manually. Easy for driver side mirrors. You need someone to help you adjust the passenger side mirrors. +1 for larger fuel tank.
2:39 I'm in total agreement on "wanting to see which gear" the transmission is in. It's an absolute must when towing, in my opinion. I have an Edge Insight CTS2 monitor. I have one parameter set to display which gear I'm in. It's important to see which gear I'm in as I approach an incline and maybe want to downshift when in manual mode. Once I'm up to speed on a road trip, I generally put the truck in manual mode and leave it there. I manually down shift as needed (on hills primarily) to keep the RPM in the sweet spot and not lose so much momentum on a hill. Banks has a little round display panel that you can also set up to read various parameters. I have one of them in my Duramax Colorado. I also monitor EGT, ECT, Regen status, Turbo Boost and trans temp with both the Edge and Banks monitors.
All great are great points of interest. Aside from those, my two gripes are no 12v outlets and what a waste of space the new console has become. 12v outlets power several tools/items I use to tow, work, and camp. Those also power the kids' entertainment, which allows us to work. I also applaud Chevy for getting their dash correct with getting the trailer brake and media outlets out of the potential drop zone of items/fluids.
How about the elimination of the 12v cigarette outlet & corresponding low wattage of the AC outlets. How many accessories still use that for power? I know its being replaced by usb, but there are still lots of 12v accessories, such as powered coolers, fans, battery chargers, etc... Also, how about the location of that trailer brake control (compared to on the Chevy)? Why does that need to be on the console where my coffee should go as opposed the dash where they normally are? Are people fine tuning it that much while they are driving?
These are all valid points! I hope GM sees this video and takes it to heart. Mary Barra needs to listen to her customers more. I've tried to call out to GM to talk to someone about concerns and ideas but get the run around. Thanks for doing this video and being a voice for us.
I honestly never use the sunroof. I would prefer more pin weight. Totally agree about the fuel tank. I hate having to stop for diesel on travel days towing my 5th wheel. I am enjoying this series on the various pros and cons of the big three hd trucks. I’m trying to decide if I should trade my 2019 GMC Denali dually. It’s paid for and I would have to get a loan on a new Denali Ultimate dually. I think I will wait.
If your truck is paid for than don’t get a loan for a new one. Car payments are the worst investment in life. True fact. At least your house payment goes towards equity. Truck lose value every year
Really appreciate your reviews, very detailed and informative. Recently sold my 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 HD cab and chassis with the 6.0 gas. Used it to haul material and occasionally animals and a tractor. Currently looking for a 1 ton diesel truck with more creature comforts for my growing family as well as a work truck on the farm.
Thanks for sharing, this is a great time to order a truck as dealers aren’t trying to charge above sticker and some are willing to negotiate below MSRP. Good luck with your search, I’m looking at a 6.6L gas with 10 speed 👀
Love your videos and I have asked questions and you have replied... Anyway.. your points...ALL of them are your opinions, which are ok and yours... on the blacked out ...uhmm interior being light? tint windows...chrome wheels, buy aftermarket... so many lil gripes..ok your video make them change? none matter to me... extra fuel? add aux tank... Agreed on the air suspension BIG TIME! The 3500 dually NEEDS to have an air suspension option. I prefer the GMC but lately I am considering upgrading to a 3500 dually and that said, I am persuaded towards the Ram 3500 dually mostly because of the factory installed air suspension option. I can't imagine I am the only one on the planet that feels this way.
The larger fuel tank thing on all the trucks that should be standard for the HD segment is a mystery to me. When you are towing with these rigs, it would be great to have a OEM tank so you don't have to put a aftermarket tank on it or another tank in the bed. This just seems like a no brainer to me. I also agree on the interior for a blacked out truck. It's odd that you would have the truck completely blacked out but would have a ton of brighter colors and chrome everywhere on the inside. That just doesn't make much sense.. Thanks for the breakdown...
I understand having a special pkg for commercial trucks that are just used for hauling because some companies prefer them to have smaller tanks but it should at least be an option… thanks bro 👍🏾
Heard my name, lol. Look, I’m with you on the 3.73! That’s the perfect gear ratio in my opinion. It’s the ones starting with a 4 I would personally avoid with these 10 speeds. As for the rest, I’ll be quick: 1) 100% on fuel tanks. GM actually was the best at this because they all have 36 gallon tanks regardless of cab or bed size with one exception being double cab short bed diesels. But yes they need a bigger option now. 2) seeing the gear you’re in would be cool, but I don’t think it’s that big a deal really. It’s not like you’re going to change anything you would do driving by knowing this. 3) the rest I don’t really care one way or the other. Color schemes and sunroofs. And air bags are pretty easy to add. My major gripe with you is two parts. I don’t get the tow mirror complaint, especially after having a Ram for so long. Those are terrible! And second here we go with the squat thing lol. I’ll just say go measure what they actually squat. It’s right on line with the other two makes. I wish I could post a picture of my truck with my trailer. The rear is down 1” and the front is up 1/4”. It does look squatted but it’s because of the factory rake (or lack thereof).
I own a 2021 350 deasil I did not order roof glass or moving outer step but pissed of when I wanted another red truck could not get alternat only comes in white black brown plus no extra massage. But I did put 900 thousand kilometers in two years sill a good truck.
We ordered the 2024 DMax Dually. Trading in our 2021. We agree the fuel tank capacity is too small. The optional Kicker tailgate radio sound sux so we’ll skip that. Lower diff screws ratio options would be nice. Hope the seats are not so hard on the ‘24. Black chrome murdered out Ultimate edition though looks nice,, too expensive.
I just went to a 2024 2500HD Denali Reserve from a 2021 2500HD Denali Ultimate and the 24 is such an improvement with the Allison branded tranny and interior refresh. My only disappointment so far is that GM removed the unlock buttons from the rear door handles. They always have them for the first 2-3 years of a model intro and then slowly remove stuff cut costs and it is infuriating. The price goes up and they pick away at small things.
When you put the gm in manual it will bring up the gears and you can set it to the highest gear you want it to go to and it will show you what gear you are in. The banks I dash is better because it shows you what gear you are in and if the torque converter is locked in.
My opinion, based on how I use my 2009 3500HD dually that I bought new, there's NO NEED for that multi whatever tailgate on a dually. Most people that own a dually either tow a 5th wheel, gooseneck, or haul a truck camper. I haul a truck camper. The tailgate came off my truck back in 2009 and hasn't been back on the truck other than once, when I did a srpay-in bedliner. When the bed liner was completed, the tailgate cam off again.
Tried to spec a 3500 midnight edition dually yesterday and got so ticked!!!! I mean it’s available on both the 2500/2500 srw trucks but not on the dually?!?!? Ridiculous!!!! Great video and points and I thought the same thing about the interior…. Also the Antennae needs to go GM!!!!All the other flagship sport utility vehicles(Cadillac Denali Tahoe) haven’t had one for well over 10 years but trucks need it?!?! I’m gonna hold off on buying one for now but I’m definitely digging the Ram dually!!!! I’m pretty brand loyal and a big GM fan but they are definitely lagging behind here with this refresh!!!!
Yeah the panoramic view is my number one complaint followed by rear axle ratio lack of options but really in the end if you're getting all the bells and whistles on the GM Chevy High Country you'll still be 1000s under Ford and Ram and their folding frames
You made some extremely great points. The transmission gears, yes! On those mirrors, we ordered those mirrors on our SLT1500. Would love to hear your behind the story on those mirrors. Also, I would love it to be able to order black out the truck. My husband said, You know what, GMC stants for "Got More Chrome". We want to pay and have our rims powered coated. And black out some of the chrome. Anyway, great video. 👍 have a nice weekend. ✌️ out.
Sure seems like with a little code work, GM could offer additional dash layouts and gauges updated at your local dealer for a "nominal fee". They are missing out on extra digital profit!
I plan on purchasing 2024 GMC 3500 dually and so far I cannot find any information that show a 12 volt accessory option in the cab. My RV camera system uses a 12 volt plug.
The only GMC trim that still has the 12-volt power outlets is the Pro. They have been eliminated on the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali variants for 2024. Silverado HD is in the same boat. 12-volt power outlets will be available on the WT, and Custom. They have been eliminated on the LT, LTZ, and High Country.
A very candid video and good points. Impressed with the Ultimate interior. Very nice. Fuel tank, mirrors, and transmission gear indicator are big. Just moved to a new Silverado 1500 LTZ, but always planning for the next one. Thanks.
Not true , helped my father spec and order one brand new. Diesel F-250 has 3:31, 3:55 available , cant remember if 3:73 was also available in f-250. The diesel f-350 dually has 3:55,3:73, and 4:10 gear ratio. In order to get max tow rating truck had to be specced with 4:10 gearing, and i really like it. 2000rpm at 70mph in 10th gear is ideal for a heavy towing dually, eliminating gear hunting. The f-450 had even lower gearing-4:88.
@@kennethobando5755 on the 250 you cannot get a 3.73. The 3.55 is for the tremor only and that is because the tires are bigger, your overall final drive will be similar to the 3.31 on a regular diesel. The DRW can do 3.55 or 4.10 not 3.73, I missed being able to do the 4.10 but that really is for max towing. The main thing is with a 10 speed the truck can get you to any final drive you need. There is no difference in 10th gear and 4.10 axle and the equivalent gear with a 3.55 axle. Your engine will be at the same rpm and have the same mechanical advantage. It made more of a difference on 6 speeds because you had huge gaps between the gears. My point is that it’s not really a downside that gmc only offers a 3.42 in most of their diesels.
Good video 😊 I'm in California speed limit is 55 just saying traveling at 75 is unsafe you really can't stop it I'm going to order 24 dully duramax i don't plan to tow more than 15 or 16 yes it can pull 30 but can it stop it 🤔
I agree GM should have a optional larger fuel tank. You can see what gear you're in if you shift from D to L. At least that is how I check my 2018 GMC. I would like to see optional air bag system also. GM is a nice looking truck but, I would like to see less chrome.
The GM tow mirrors are absolutely fantastic once you get them adjusted. It is astounding to me that the lower mirror is not powered on a $70,000+ truck.
The fancy new big screen’s they have are not all that is meant to be . The hands free calling and navigation do not work without a data plan . You have to go through onstar to make it work . I traded a 2020 Z71 LTZ in for this 2024 DRW truck . Love the truck but you shouldn’t have to go through Onstar to make a phone call on 90.000.00 plus dollar truck .
GMC Dooleys are a great holiday hauler. People that drive a Dooley hauling freight or cars on a daily basis, GMC is a nightmare to own. The reliability of the engine and transmission is garbage. I wish they were more reliable because it is a comfortable truck. If you have a chance do a video on there reliability.
I’ve never been a fan of the Ram body style, but that blackout dually looked pretty damn nice! My heart is in a 450 though, I have to wait until the 24 models come out though. I was too late to the game on ordering for a 23, but from the sounds of it those clients are all pretty frustrated with Ford. Can’t get any answers on their builds, same as ‘22 and thousands never got their ‘22’s which just boggles my mind. Their most money making vehicle and they stiff thousands of customers?.. anyway thanks for the vids. Not a real fan of the gmc dually. They make a great looking 3500 SRW, but the looks don’t compare in the dually to the Ford . Just my opinion .
I don't know what GMs obsession is with the 3.42 rear. Thats the max you can get on the half-ton as well, and it is on a very specific truck. Ram let's you option om the 3.92 to any non-diesel half-ton, and Ford offers 3.31, 3.55, and 3.73. Ford takes it a step further on the HDs with 3.73/4.10/4.30 as well(Ram caps out 4.10). The 3.42 is decent. But pulling heavy in a hilly terrain is why Ram and Ford really shine. It also doesn't help matters that the GM trucks are also the most "torque-lite".(haven't seen a 2024 tested yet tho). I also agree on the tank size. Should definitely offer at least a 50gal.
Have you towed with one? In the mountains? The 3.42 does great with the 10 speed. Also, it may be lower in torque numbers than ford, but you can’t tell. It does fine. Get what works for you and don’t rank them on an envy scale.
I'm not sure that gear ratio it's going to make that much difference going up grade because the transmission is going to choose the appropriate gear for the grade. Where the gear ratio is going to make the most differences is in 1st gear when taking off from a stop and 10th gear how often it down shift and fuel economy.
I was super close to getting an F450 Limited but was scared that it would take forever to get. And the few available across the country have markups. I went with a Ram 4500 w/upfitter bed. Can't wait till its here! I'll keep for a year or so and hope Ram updates the HD or go for the new F450.
@@hellkitty1014 I ordered two 450s a lariat and a limited. The lariat had 4 changes to my scheduled build dates from feb 7 all the way to April 24th now. As far as the limited I keep getting emails saying supply shortage is the reason it’s taking longer than expected to even get a build date. I have no idea really when either will be in. Probably a good thing you went the 4500 if you want a truck sooner. Also let other people work the bugs out of the new super duty.
I can tell you what I hate about my 2024, HD $88,000 truck and the LED halos don’t work so now I’m stuck waiting on a new headlight from the factory because there’s no spare parts. I’ll never own another GM vehicle again.
Feel the same on alot of the points you made. Larger tank would definitely be nice. Did have a question for you, last September I picked up a 2021 gmc at4 2500 diesel and was kinda shocked when I looked at yesterday at the tow ratings on the sticker behind the door. Alot lower then I was expecting. Any idea why that might be?
I'm sure it's because of the four-wheel drive and and the diesel engine and if it has four doors that all takes away from the tow rating kind of a bummer I have a 2020 GMC 3500 Denali 6.6 Duramax diesel and it also suffers a bit from low tow rating because of all the options so I'm glad I got a 3500 but that goes for all trucks the more options Less tow ability
Buying a truck or a luxury SUV? Luxury color interior? Blacked out? Sunroof? Who cares? I'm ordering a 2024 3500HD PRO crew cab long bed SRW. Its actually cheaper than the 2023. None of these points are a concern. It's a truck.
Most of the points you have made is why GM will always be behind the 8 ball against Ford and Dodge, really GM just needs to get out of the towing game but honestly if gm offered more gear ratios, a solid front axle in there 2500 and 3500 HD trucks and increase the towing capacity I bet GM sales would increase. But as always you give good reviews 👍🏿
The biggest thing I hate about the 2023 gmc I just bought is the machnics have put on more miles then I have a hundred thousand dollar piece of junk I can't even drive been setting at the dealership for two weeks now I haven't been able to drive it for over a month and they still don't know how to fix it or what the problem is and here I sit needing the truck and they don't even off a lone vehicle told me I need to rent one what a joke
You still need more training. On long trailers. Because I drive 18wheeler. For 35 years. Them mirrors are just fine. Looking better than. Dodge. Mirrors. Because Dodge mirrors are old styles. For 15years.
Why not have 2 tanks? I had a few old-school trucks with 2 tanks. But for me, I need more payload, so 1 tank is good. Plus, I don't drive cross country. This will be a long year waiting for my truck 😆
I have to agree with you on quite a few of your points. When you put the gm in manual it will bring up the gears and you can set it to the highest gear you want it to go to and it will show you what gear you are in. The banks I dash is better because it shows you what gear you are in and if the torque converter is locked in.
If you switch to manual it will show you what gear you’re locked into but it won’t show you what gear the transmission is in 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork you are right. I keep forgetting that my I dash is right there and it always tells me my gear
I’m hoping you mention the Denali ultimate chrome on sides need to be match the black chrome on the front grill.
Also needs Air suspension
Yeah the panoramic view is my number one complaint followed by rear axle ratio lack of options but really in the end if you're getting all the bells and whistles on the GM Chevy High Country you'll still be 1000s under Ford and Ram and their folding frames
I'm surprised you don't mention outrigger switches standard
I absolutely agree with you about three major things. If they do it, directly I will be the first customer
Ahhh man I see what you mean… Where the heck did they put it because I don’t see one on the footage I got… must be in center console???
The only GMC trim that still has the 12-volt power outlets is the Pro. They have been eliminated on the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali variants for 2024. Silverado HD is in the same boat. 12-volt power outlets will be available on the WT, and Custom. They have been eliminated on the LT, LTZ, and High Country.
How about a two speed rear end?
3.73 was the only gear ratio on the Duramax trucks until recently . I think the L5P was when the 3.42 gear became the standard Duramax gear ratio.
Couple years L5P with six speed Allison and 3.73. going to be collector. Like lbz.
Was advised today that I won't be getting the 2023 2500HD gasser Denali I ordered back in November..."production has been ended". Not happy.
Titan 60 gallon is plug and play, love mine.
Nice breakdown. They missed the mark on a few things. I wanna see how that new exhaust brake going to be compared to the 🐏
A very candid video and good points. Impressed with the Ultimate interior. Very nice. Fuel tank, mirrors, and transmission gear indicator are big. Just moved to a new Silverado 1500 LTZ, but always planning for the next one. Thanks.
For Ford Diesels you only get one axle ratio option. It is 3.31 for SRW, 3.73 for DRW and 3.55 for Tremor(only to make up for the bigger tires)
Completely agree on the interior. Definitely need an option for black. For me, the two tone interior is a deal breaker !!!
If you put the shifter in manual mode it shows the gear you are in.
Tank size options is why I went from Chevy to Ram. Also, the exhaust break is so much better on the Ram.
And also they should have a wide trac front axle for better turning radius like dodge and ford has
The GM tow mirrors are absolutely fantastic once you get them adjusted. It is astounding to me that the lower mirror is not powered on a $70,000+ truck.
I looked at a new Ram 3500 and was really shocked at the flimsy sunroof shade/cover and too many things seemed poor quality for the price… JMHO 😬
What size tank on it
Leveling up with the screen in the background! Let's go!
I agree 100% on all your hates. Great video. If they made all those changes i would purchase one. 2025 might be the year.
Gm needs to extend tow mirrors by another three or four inches. Not enough with a wide body 5th wheel.
Bro I definitely feel you on the all black GMC Dually
I have to agree I love my dually night edition. Gonna be tough to get rid of when my new 450 comes in.
Ahh man, that will be tough but you will love the turning radius of that beast 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork I certainly will. I had a 450 before I tried a Ram out and they do turn amazing.
Although not factory, titan makes a 60 gal tank for the gmc/chevy
first!!!! can you do videos on bunk house fifth wheels?
You will start seeing more Fifth wheel reviews soon, thanks 👍🏾
I can tell you what I hate about my 2024, HD $88,000 truck and the LED halos don’t work so now I’m stuck waiting on a new headlight from the factory because there’s no spare parts. I’ll never own another GM vehicle again.
Better gear ratio to 3.73 or 4.10 and larger fuel tank are the problems i have with GMC not having
Yes, I agree for a dually but this is one reason to looking into getting a Titan fuel tank, I think they should but there's Titan fuel tank.
its coming all the things u like im sure give it some time 👍
Your whites are crushing, you can decrease the exposure or get a Polarized Filter.
At my age, my low back or bladder will beat out the fuel range... LOL.
I would’ve add one more the air suspension. 😝
Wait... a mirror is not great for visibility?? 😮
My wife's 2014 has that same color interior
Feel the same on alot of the points you made. Larger tank would definitely be nice. Did have a question for you, last September I picked up a 2021 gmc at4 2500 diesel and was kinda shocked when I looked at yesterday at the tow ratings on the sticker behind the door. Alot lower then I was expecting. Any idea why that might be?
I'm sure it's because of the four-wheel drive and and the diesel engine and if it has four doors that all takes away from the tow rating kind of a bummer I have a 2020 GMC 3500 Denali 6.6 Duramax diesel and it also suffers a bit from low tow rating because of all the options so I'm glad I got a 3500 but that goes for all trucks the more options Less tow ability
maybe someone should ask why with a blacked out package comes with chrome nuts on black wheels
All HD trucks need a minimum of 50 gallon tanks
I agree 100%!!! At least 40 gallons…
Why?
Notice how he keeps talking about how great the Ram trucks are. I am on my second Ram and I agree! #besttrucksever
My biggest limitation on any road trip is my bladder.😂
You didn't mention a critical point. I think it's kind of stupid to have only one type of tire "Michelin" available for the 2024 GMC Sierra Dooley
But with the tank size no one is driving 800 straight miles. So the standard tank is fine!
Gave up on all Chevy/GM products a long time ago- never going back. Way too many problems not to mention the dealerships are crooked.
Great information 👍
Thanks 😀
AND Vader chrome around the windows and handles on ultimate package! Why plain chrome still? 🤦🏽♂️
If you want air suspension buy a kelderman kit
I agree with your top 3 the rest is nit picking
Lol
Yes, the top three are dead on!
The biggest thing I hate about the 2023 gmc I just bought is the machnics have put on more miles then I have a hundred thousand dollar piece of junk I can't even drive been setting at the dealership for two weeks now I haven't been able to drive it for over a month and they still don't know how to fix it or what the problem is and here I sit needing the truck and they don't even off a lone vehicle told me I need to rent one what a joke
great vid
You still need more training. On long trailers. Because I drive 18wheeler. For 35 years. Them mirrors are just fine. Looking better than. Dodge. Mirrors. Because Dodge mirrors are old styles. For 15years.
And the number #1 thing that sucks, should be the price tag. 😮
I agree trans does not make up for the 342 my 17 was much stronger on hills
You could also use ‘plastidip’ (or whatever it’s called) to blackout those shiny wheels.
True but that will probably last about a year and then you have to apply it again 👍🏾
Why not have 2 tanks? I had a few old-school trucks with 2 tanks. But for me, I need more payload, so 1 tank is good. Plus, I don't drive cross country. This will be a long year waiting for my truck 😆
2 tanks sounds commical today but I remember we had a Ford truck with 2 tanks
@@JB_WhoWork I thank the ones I had was ford
@@JB_WhoWork I had 69 f250 3 tanks. 1 each side , 1 behind seat. Like 55 gallons. But fuel was 2.50 gallon. At 10 mpg.
Black out rims is played out in my opinion the chrome is far classier
Mirrors for sure
