Taking the Tikka Roughtech to 950 and 800 yards at the range, plus a nice group at 200 yards..

- Finally had some nice weather. Changed the scope on the Tikka, and put one of my Sightron scopes on for target play. Lots of fun, outside of getting the side-by-side stuck.
The handloads consist of Nosler brass, CCI Magnum Rifle Primers, Hodgdon H4831 powder, and Berger 168 grain VLD’s bullets. It is proving to be a pretty good combination for this rifle.

Lived in Alaska for 37 years, shot many big game animals with a 7mag, always used a 175 grain bullet for everything because no matter what you're hunting there are always big bears in the area...
I'm so excited, I'll pick my roughtech up in Black at the end of the month!
Greetings from Germany
Wie ist sie?
Great video as always.
Thank you!
Holy smokes thats a good group! All of them..
Waiting on my 7mm roughtech to show up! Can't wait.
I’m considering order one in the same caliber for long range hunting. Do you recomend it?
why 7mm rem mag and not 300 win mag?
Nice rifle and another great video
Thank you sir!
I really like your videos. Calm and informative.
Mighty fine shooting
Thank you sir!
Good shooting.
Thanks!
Nice video. I have very impressed with Tikka. It matched my Fierce Rival shot for shot in accuracy. Very impressive rifles!
Tikka, best value on the market
@savagearms...................................................
Couldn't trade me 2 savages for my tikka.
Would love to see more of the Tikka t3x CTR if you still have it!
That’s a fine rifle, unfortunately, it’s not mine, it belongs to my cousin.
Great video, can’t decide between the 7 REM mag and 270 win, lovely looking rifle
Thank you.
As far as choosing between the 270 and 7 mag, ya really can’t go wrong with either one. If you are planning on hunting at longer ranges, or want that option, the 7 mag would deliver a little more than the 270, and offers allot of heavier bullet options.... However, the 270 will use a little less powder and is very accurate as well..... and both have dropped allot of game!
Did you make a decision? I have the 270 and it is fantastic.
@@montaego is 270 good for elk as well?
Thanks for making the video, excellent groups. I noticed you are lefty but you have right handed bolt action. You don’t mind shooting the right handed rifle ? I am also a lefty and just got the Tikka Superlite Strata Camo in 7mm Mag but a left handed version and put a Leupold VX-5D 3-15x, I really like the setup and we booked a moose hunting trip in Northern Quebec this September. Any recommendations on factory ammo? My plan is to try the Hornady Superformance 162 and the Federal Nosler Accubond 160, any other ammo you would recommend?
Thank you for the kind words! I have always used right handed rifles. I was taught to shoot on right handed rifles from the time I was four so they are what I am accustomed to. I can shoot right or left handed, but much prefer to shoot left-handed. I do like the feel of a left handed action, but I’ve always just went by the right handed actions for easier resale down the road if that option ever came up. As far as bullet selection goes, I would have said Nosler or Hornady also. Federal makes good hunting Ammo also, and usually you can find ammo from these three in most stores.
Just purchased this gun. Would you mind sharing your load data with the 168vld burgers. Thanks. Good shooting
I can’t make that information public because of standards on UA-cam. I can tell you, that the cartridges are loaded to fit in the magazine, and I very much like Hodgdon H4831 powder, CCI magnum rifle primers, and Nosler brass is very impressive.
I am running around 2940 FPS with my rifle and these projectiles. Every rifle will be different however. I started my charge at around 63.5 grains and worked up from there, watching for pressure.
Be careful, and have fun!
I’m seriously considering get this rifle in 7mmRm left handed for long range hunting. Do you recomend it.? Being lefty i have only a few rifle/calibers available! I love 7mmRm but that calibre is closing the doors for the most long range shooting rifles availble for left handed! For that i’ve thought in this tikka model! Thanks for share with us this video
I’m not sure they made any in LH yet of the roughtech or veil but heard they was starting this year. Hopefully you find one. I have the veil in 7mag very accurate took 3 deer and a moose with it so far.
Is that the Tikka LITE Roughtech that weighs 6.8 lbs? Also, is that the stock muzzle break that it comes with? The recoil seemed pretty mild for a light weight rifle in 7mag!
I agree, I have a super lite in 7 mag. Doesn't hurt but more recoil than that by a bit.
Now I KNOW you know the bullet diameter is .284" ! And that 200 yard group is not "OK" , It is excellent accuracy and then some for a hunting rifle!😀
You are correct. After I put this video up, I remeasured those bullets. Turns out, my caliper is off. I measured them on the Hornady calipers and they are indeed .284.
I was scratching my head for a few minutes after I posted the video lol
Hey, did you change out the standard muzzle break?
I did. I put a $80 side port brake on it that I found in Gander Outdoors. I like that design allot better than the radial style.
I’m looking to buy a roughtech just wonder how well the coating holds up to moisture. The information is not very clear as to what it is ,whether it’s blued or ceracoating or something else.
I’ve had very good luck with the durability on the finish. I have no niks or chips in any of the finish on the metal, and I always wipe my wife is down with an oil rag when I bring them in from hunting.
@@DialingLongDistanceis it blued or cerakote?
What brand scope caps you have?
7mm? Your bullets measured .277 not .284. Am I missing something?
Yeah, I noticed that also and it made me wonder what was going on. I found out that my calipers were off. I rezeroed them and it came out to .284…. I do not own a 270, the bullets were actually 7 mm, .284 inch diameter bullets.
were u shooting a 7mm rem mag??
Yes. With 168 grain Berger VLD’s. Great little cartridge.
What is this a 7mm or 30 06 or what
Looking at picking up a TIKKA T3X CTR in 6.5 CM...would this be at punching paper or would it still work for hunting pigs/deer?
6.5 Creedmoor on pigs and deer? All day long. Great round for coyotes and many elk have been taken with the Creedmoor as well. 140 grain class of bullets are very good at taking down deer sized game at medium ranges. I would be comfortable taking whitetail out to 500 yards with this round. I would go to about 300 yards on elk. Many people have taken them at further range, those are just my numbers.
As with any hunt, shot placement is key. Know your rifle, be proficient with your shooting. The 6.5 Creedmoor is an inherently accurate round which (with today’s ammo and projectiles) can make shooting targets and game at medium to long ranges a bit easier than it used to be.
Duh......
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
7mm vs 6.5 creedmor. Thoughts?
I like them both, I have them both. Both are very accurate. I myself prefer the 7mm. I like the extra power and bullet weight. I would feel comfortable hunting just about anything in North America at fairly extended range (if your style of hunting) short of Grizzlies, with the 7 mag, though many will say the 7mag is sufficient for them too, I’d use at least a 30 caliber magnum on those.
Do you think that barrel will rust in heavy weather ?
I think any gun will rust if not cared for properly, that being said, the finish on the metals appears to be very durable, and well done. I don’t have any rust on mine yet, and I’ve hunted in rain and snow with it. When I bring it in, it gets wet from coming in from the cold… rifle sees the usual use and moisture exposure. I have a microfiber cloth I keep on my bench that is damp with Ballistol gun oil. All my rifles get wiped down with it after I bring them in, and they all have stayed pretty rust free.
@@DialingLongDistance are their any rust free rifle options?
@@hesko125cerakote
You need a dot out their to aim at
How is recoil without the brake?
Quite manageable in my opinion. I think the stock and pad work really well.
@@DialingLongDistance Awesome looking at same rifle. Besides the Berger’s any other loads it likes? Considering the 162 ELDX.
@@TrueLineOutdoors iv had really good groups with Barnes 160 tsx and berger hybrid hunters 168 grain. Better then the hornady in my rifle.
Now! Why is this guy shooting a right handed gun,,Left handed,,You don't make enough money to pay 100 dollars more for a Lefty.
It’s generally about finding left handed rifles, not paying for them. Most places don’t stock for us lefties 🥺
Are you still liking the Roughtech? Does it start pushing rounds after 2-3 from heat like the t3x lite does?
I’ve never had that problem with either of the T3x super lites I have.
