I watched it
This movie was building the universe that we know today. You were wondering about the location where they filmed Skull Island. Interestingly enough, it was actually taken in Vietnam, very ironic that the time period of the story takes places some time after the Vietnam War. When you have the chance, go back and watch the post-credit scene because it’ll tell you that this narrative is about to get very spicy for the next following film. Good luck.

This film was a great follow up from Godzilla 2014. The best part for me was the post credits scene when we get to see the ancient images from Monarch, showing the familiar kaiju from the Toho films. That blew my mind and had me hyped for the next Monsterverse film!
I remember first watching this movie and was thinking to myself; “Wonder why they decided to make Kong so big?”
Then the post credits revealed everything and what they were building up to.
Fun Facts:
- In the Monsterverse database, Kong is a carnivore despite that most apes are omnivores. The Kong species are primates that are pure carnivores.
- A little heads up, Kong in this movie is not yet fully grown. He's still a teenager and not in full Titan size.

Vietnam is so beautiful. A must visit. 1 day cruise stay at “ha long bay”, where this movie is shot. Definitely a must. Such a beautiful place 😍😍😍😍😍
Marlow did say that one of the Skullcrawlers was the one that killed Gunpei. Probably the way how he died is that he and Marlow had a run-in with the creature while they were gathering parts for their boat or foraging for food, they defended themselves valiantly but eventually, the Skullcrawler was about to devour them, and Gunpei sacrificed himself to save Marlow so that at least the latter will make it home alive.
It’s so hard to make a schlocky blockbuster look like something worth while but the director of this movie really hit it. I’ve been watching the Directors career since and ITS A CRIME HOW LITTLE WORK HE GETS! The only thing on his radar is a Metal Gear Solid movie with Oscar Isaac, but I want him to get a really fresh blockbuster IP to work on, he’s well on his way to being a new George Miller (the Mad Max guy). I hope the new DC picks him up for something, he’s got talent
I love how Kong rips out that one Skullcrawler's guts, much to the disgust of the human visitors.
Side note: It's hilarious to hear Samuel L. Jackson say "Bitch, please!!" 😆😆🤣🤣☠☠
Kong Skull Island is considered a prequel to future Monsterverse movies.
Here are the names of the creatures of Skull Island in appearance:
- Kong
- Sker Buffalo = Like all herbivores, they are docile unless provoked. And provoking a Sker Buffalo, you'll be unfortunate to end up as its horn ornament.
- Mother Longlegs = A giant spider that hunts in bamboo forests where it uses its long legs to siphon its prey's juice after piercing through them
- Mire Squid = A giant freshwater squid that hunts near the shallows it grabs its prey with its powerful tentacles and it is said that its ink is boiling. Chapman is lucky that the squid didn't get to him first.
- Skull Crawlers = The most dangerous, brutal, malevolent apex predators. They are intelligent and aggressive. They are also hypervores, meaning because they have a high metabolism they need to eat near constantly. Think of them like the Devijho from Monster Hunters who will eat anything as potential prey and will never stop sustaining their appetite, even risk getting injured. This kind of hunting and feeding behaviour is what nearly drove the creatures of the island to near extinction and wiped out the rest of the Kong species.
- Leafwings = Despite their size, they can even hunt larger prey by hunting as a swarm and they use their serrated bills like saws to cut their prey to small sizes.
- Spore Mantis = The one Chapman found was only a juvenile. A fully grown adult Spore Mantis is the size of a Brachiosaurus.
These are only about half of the residents. There are even more creatures in Skull Island that did not appear in the movie but they do appear in the graphic novel/comic sequel of the movie. And they are more dangerous and deadly as the rest.
Kong Skull island takes place before Godzilla does.

My dear friend, I understand your concerns of Packard wanting revenge against Kong and I do appreciate that this is just a movie. Anger is stronger than you think. The colonel may be in the wrong but his anger for Kong is justifiable in his perspective. In his eyes, he only saw a monster that killed his friends and he believes it will be a potential threat. Do you think you can stay calm and reasonable if you see a monster kill your family in front of you? Will you be able to live up to the words you've just said? Fear, hate, and anger. Despite being negative emotions, they are powerful motivators. Like a raging fire that sometimes can no longer be doused.
You should watch the boys, I feel like you would enjoy that.

This is a great movie in the Monsterverse and how it goes into the Godzilla: King of The Monsters. Is Kong bigger in this movie or in the Peter Jackson’s King Kong.
