- Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to Furiosa (2024). This action/adventure flick delivered an experience that is definitely not what we were expecting but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a 2024 Australian post-apocalyptic action film directed and produced by George Miller, who wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris. It is the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise, serving as both a prequel and spin-off to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and focuses on the Fury Road character Imperator Furiosa. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne as younger versions of Furiosa (originally portrayed by Charlize Theron), alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
We hope you enjoy our reactions and commentary as we delve into the film's impact on action cinema. From the fast cutting that gives you a ferocious pace to the stunning practical effects that bring the dystopian world to life. This movie has both adrenaline-pumping scenes and underlying themes of revenge, hope and freedom. All this combined has made Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga a modern classic that is the perfect companion to Mad Max: Fury Road.

I’m really enjoying this so far
I'm curious because I don't want to accuse you of anything. Did you see the new Mad Max movie in a theater or online? If you watched it online, that would support the argument that the movie didn't do as well at the box office as it could have because people aren't going to see movies in theaters anymore. Box office success isn't everything, especially for a film like Mad Max, but it would have been nice to see this movie do better. It's a great film, and I think it deserves to be seen in a theater. I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way. What are your thoughts?
Great film! Makes a great double feature with HOPE AND GLORY - a 30 minutes Mad Max short made by a group of 275 filmmakers from all over the world
Dementus is like an alternate reality Max. he lost his wife and kids as well, but he turned completely to the dark side.
If only encapsulates the quote that he said in mad Max fury Road
If you can’t fix what’s broken, you’ll go insane.
that what happens when Thor loses his powers, in an alternate universe.
A mixture between Max and Lord Humungus.
@@KawaiiSoulB42lol
We don't know that, as he always was a piece of 💩 in entire movie, he might be lieing 😢
I like how Dementus starts off clean, and as the story progresses he loses his “shine” from white, red, to that military coat and salt & pepper hair.
Eventually losing his influence/power.
The military coat he steals from the guardian of gastown. Also I think it looks like a marching band uniform that he just ripped the sleeves off of lol
@@IvanaGiznyatbf, marching band uniforms seem to be heavily based on military uniforms from around the Napoleonic era.
I also like to think he was "white dementus" sort of half mad cult like figure of what he calls his Congress of Destruction with various minor gang leaders (governors) (octoboss and those other characters we see recurring close to him) operating within his overarching structure, in his own "demented way" - then he transitioned into Red Warlord Dementus on his 3 bike chariot (Is this when he twists his beard into two long forks?), who first fails at the citadel from his hubris, but adapts and overcomes, and after taking gas town and negotiating, he in his own mind becomes The Great (black) Dementus, Ruler of Bikerdom, lord guardian of Gastown, which slowly wears him down and shows his internal problems with how he rules as years has passed, mortifiers "going rogue", as Furiosa grows up, and we then see him as fully "dark Dementus" ontop of his 6 wheel monster truck in the marching band uniform of his predecessor and the cloak mostly black from the oil residue...
I frankly feel like Chris Hemsworth should do more voice acting. With a voice like that, I almost had trouble identifying him as Dementus.
Edit after Transformers One: This aged beautifully
he said in an interview he based it off his grandfather
Transformers One
I found it really interesting that Chris wore a prosthetic nose to hide the fact he’s an extremely handsome man LOL. I wonder if it was his idea or not. I agree, he has a fantastic voice, as well.
Saddens me more people didn’t go support this in theaters. God knows if we’ll ever see max and Furiosa again.
I went to the theaters to see this movie in theaters 5 times just to help the box office rise. 3 times alone, once with my parents and once with a friend. The fact that the box office surpassed the budget, I like to think I played a small part in that. Don’t give up hope, Max could still return!!!
@@tedflanc1024 saw it three times and waiting for paycheck to pickup a copy. People skipped this or didn’t know about this and it’s a damn shame. Amazing spectacle of a film, better than most of the trash being put out in the last five years.
True, kinda sad about this but anyway the movie is still good, I love it
But weren't the previous films also not doing too well at the box office?
Yup. I saw it twice in theaters it was so badass. I think it’s one that will gain lots of hype in streaming though, which might help bring the franchise back to life.
When you look at her backstory, it makes her reaction in Fury Road all the more gut wrenching. Everything she remembered from her home..... just gone.
Yeah, rewatched _Fury Road_ recently and that scene hit *so* much harder.
Especially when you realize shes been trying to go back for 15-20 years
the "salt flats" :(
@@TYG455 19-20 years. In Fury Road when they encounter the Vuvalini in the desert, Valkyrie asks "How long has it been?" And Furiosa answers "7000 days. Plus the ones I can't remember." 7000 days is a bit more than 19 years, so it's probably closer to 20.
Anya was very good in the movie, but I think we should not overlook Alyla Browne, who basically leads this movie for half of it, and she is great. And obviously, Hemsworth steals the show.
Alyla blew me away. I was immensely invested in her.
Incredible acting! The finger-pointing scene with Hemsworth gave me chills... both give such an great performance.
Casting Anya for Furiosa was terrible.

A cool side note, look up Quaden Bayles- the kid that that was in the back on the truck during the first big chase scene. He's the kid that went viral a few years ago after his mother made a video of him in tears after coming home from school because he was bullied for his type of dwarfism. George Miller saw the story and was impressed with him so he put him in his movie. Dang, my sinus's are acting up again.. lol

George Miller actually cast him in a movie before this one. In "Three Thousand Years of Longing" which came out in 2022.

I'll NEVER underatand the people who find this movie boring. It starts with a bang and the fury road sequence is f'n spectacular. Is it slow burn, yeah, but there's not even a hint of boredom. Not even a spec.
The story and script are simplistic but also beautiful. The cinematography and score and acting...top notch.
An amazing theater experience. Would be my favorite of the year if not for Dune 2.
While I liked it overall it definitely didnt start with a bang but a slow roll that set the pace.
Fury Road was frenetic from the start and for the most part kept it up.
This did have some great parts and definitely doesn't deserve the hate....
Started with a bang?? No, not at all
@JohnDAmico-ci2hz This film started with Furiosa's mom and [I guess] aunt chasing the men on the bikes. It wasn't Fury Road level of crazy but it was still a fun open.
@@MrVenom973copy and pasting my response to the other person. "This film started with Furiosa's mom and [I guess] aunt chasing the men on the bikes. It wasn't Fury Road level of crazy but it was still a fun open"
@Grekus12387 Definitely fun, especially in IMAX
For those who aren't Australian, I'm so happy that the environment looks like the film is in Australia and not in South Africa like it was in Fury Road, don't get me wrong Fury Road's environment is stunning but to me, it sort of lost the Aussie vibe. Nitpicking aside, Furiosa is probability one of the best films I've seen this year and im disappointed by its turnout at the box office, I have a feeling this will become a cult classic in the near future
Fury Road was filmed in Namibia, previously Deutsch West Afrika, neighbours to the north. Production team and vechiles from South Africa.
@@benvandermerwe4934 whoops, mb 💀
I predict it wont be a cult classic. It will just become a classic.
to be fair, Fury Road was meant to shoot in AUS, you can even find all the vehicle stunt tests filmed there, but the rainstorms in 2012 made broken hill's soil too fertile to make it look like a dessert.
It's never going to be a classic, cult or otherwise.
It's more likely that the glaring flaws are less forgiven over time and it's eventually swept under the rug as a late-career misfire.
I loved this film's slow pacing, especially with the focus on world building! Chris Hemsworth was incredible. And the movie really feels like it's a legend behind recalled after the fact.
I was really surprised by Chris. He was just living that character. And Anya Taylor saying a million words with a glare. Just loved every minute of it x
The ending blew my fucking mind as if it wasnt blown enough already from all the insanity before it.
George Miller is a Mad Genius. All those old school directors crying true cinema is dead and he brings us this crown jewel of a movie
Considering this movie bombed will probably make Hollywood go safe again. Which is a shame, I love the mad max universe
'Where were you going, so full of hope? There is no hope!'
I wanted more of that and less of him licking the blood from his ripped nipples. Is this MAD MAX or Loonie Tunes? Both are good! Just, you know, pick one!
One of the women shooting the rifle on the sand dune in the beginning when the bikes are escaping is Chris Hemsworth’s wife fyi 😊
She also plays a separate character later in the movie as one of Dementus' followers.
And?
He flexed his executive producer's muscle and gave her two roles , this woman is hands down the Spanish Brie Larson, Spanish people hate her guts
Yes Mr norton
@@Insomnia1029 and what? I was giving some trivia if anyone cares. Obviously you don’t so why even bother commenting?
George Miller is already 80 years old and shows still what a kinda bad ass he is. Epic, Powerful and Insane!! Best Movie by far in this decade!!
Other notes from my experience watching this:
1.) I liked how Dementus' cloak goes through a color change throughout the movie. From white, to red, and finally black. Definitely symbolic.
2.) It was great to see many of the actors reprise their roles in the parts of Immortan Joe's circle, the Bullet Farmer, etc. And RIP Hugh Keays-Byrne, Joe's original actor. I felt that the character being someone with a mask meant that recasting the role was a no-brainer.
The Bullet Farmer was recasted as well! RIP Richard Carter
Only The People Eater returned
@@clarkthorns Ooooo really?? I wasn't aware of that! Well the casting was spot-on then!
I really loved the symbolism of his cape, as well. From a “savior” like figure, then warlord, to black hearted conqueror/tyrant. “You break my heart. You make me the Dark Dementus”.
I saw Furiosa in theater and loved it. It's too bad people didn't want to see it because it didn't have Mad Max. The world of Mad Max is what I love... Max is just a tool to bring you there. Furiosa enhances Fury Road and makes it even better - tough to accomplish in a prequel!
I'm of the firm opinion that Max is actually the least important part of the Mad Max movies.
Furiosa is a terrific prequel to Fury Road. As for the box office, the Mad Max movies were never huge blockbusters on the scale of something like “Star Wars”. They have usually received more awards and rave reviews than big box office receipts.
Which is a shame. I like Star Wars but I feel mad max has some really big highs and has a better quality control than Star Wars
They were also cheap to make. Not this one. Not by a mile walking the salt flats of the Wasteland. A decent movie (I'm utterly in love with parts of it) but a catastrophic box-office bomb, nonetheless. Feelings don't enter into it - yours or mine! - that's not how $200 million epics get made. Listen to your Lord Dementus : "THERE IS NO HOPE!"
Well, the first one was a huge blockbuster hit. It grossed over $100M worldwide and had a budget of around $400.000. It had the record for box-office-to-budget gains until The Blair Witch Project.
@@mocthezuma I'm interested in the source for the international box office, which is in the one document unavailable to me (Routledge encyclopedia of film.) The 100M claim seems utterly *insane* to me, unless it's in _adjusted_ dollars : am I to believe it despite the fact that THE TERMINATOR(78M) failed to crack that milestone?
By the by : IMDB shows total worldwide b.o. for MAD MAX at just under 10M ; perhaps someone ( _NOT_ saying it's you!) added a zero somewhere... I've also heard that "most profitable film ever made" claim about HALLOWEEN. And BILLY JACK.
I'm not married to any particular answer, you dig? I am, as you might say, skeptical . . .
@@vincelang3779 Several seemingly reputable sources provide the 100 million dollar figure. It's on the movie's Wikipedia page, with references to publications. Under 10 million also seems to me like a questionably low figure considering the movie grossed over 5 million in Australia alone. If you check the trivia section of Mad Max's IMDB page, you also find information there about it having grossed 100m worldwide.
It also was listed in Guinness world records as the most profitable movie ever. This is also referenced by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, which is a governmental cultural institution.
The Scrotus guy is the main bad guy of the Mad Max Game
Oh dang, I think I recall that. Good call. Also, that is such an amazing game.
Also, in the film, the actor playing Scrotus played the War Boy Slit(the friend of Nux) in Fury Road, also PFC Lew 'Chuckler' Juergens, in The Pacfic(2010) and young William William Stryker in the X-Men movies, by FOX Studios…. That actor, Josh Helman.
And in the credits, it was Chumbucket who gave her that last car missing a wheel.
@@goannaj3243 good call. I didn't got that one but now it's obvious
That's what I was thinking. But I also think there is a difference between Scarborous Scrotus and this Scrotus no?
Both fury road and FURIOSA are enjoyable. I feel like fury road had more stunts. But both are visually stunning.
Certainly not equally. Unlike FR, Furiosa screams CGI, and it has waaaay too many ugly green screens.
I think what a lot of people miss in some of the clips and trailers, is that this movie is FAR more ambitious with its set design and the scale of its stunts. So naturally a lot more of it just simply isn't practical to do...practically. And I think that's perfectly fine. I love that you guys realized and appreciated all of the creative camera work that was done to maybe cover up and rationalize the lack of practical shots. Where Fury Road had frantic single shots that kept the action moving, Furiosa instead chose to stay in that shot for seconds, sometimes minutes.
Fury Road is a movie that should never have been made realistically, and I don't think George Miller felt it realistic to expect to put a production crew through that kind of movie again. Regardless I think Furiosa is a movie that in some ways even exceeds Fury Road, despite not being as meticulously crafted. Great reaction, and so glad you guys loved and appreciated what this movie excelled at.
It has visual effects in most of its shots and is processed to the point of becoming a moving painting. It's far from Miller's best film but it may be his most beautiful. Big props to casting Anya T. Joy who, with her hauntingly beautiful anime eyes, lights up every single shot she's in. An extraordinary visual achievement . . .
Absolutely loved Dementus as a character especially how they littered bits about his backstory throughout the film to make him fully fleshed out. Chris Hemsworth really killed it making him such a threatening but funny psychopath
Interesting. I found him about as "threatening" as the coyote in those old Road Runner cartoons. Immortan Joe stole the show from right under his feet when they were in the same room - so much so that it turned inadvertently comical.
If the 30K people who have watched this would go to the theater this weekend to see it or can purchase it on digital, we'll get the next one: "Mad Max: The Wasteland"! PLEASE help out! As you can see from this video and their reactions, the movie is A MASTERPIECE. It's such a shame that no one showed up for this in the theaters and I hope that you'll support artistry, originality and pure genius filmmaking by supporting it.
Nope. We will never get another Mad Max movie from Miller. Ever. By the time the dust has settled on this monumental box-office bomb the man will be too old.
What we probably WILL get is a quickly made cash grab of a remake/re-imagining/reboot/bowel movement from NetFlix or Amazon, made by a TikTok "director" who swears (s)he want to "honour the original." Barf.
It was sad when I went to see it on opening weekend and only five people were there. Went again the next week and my partner and I were the only ones. Great to have a whole screen to ourselves in a way but I knew it was a bomb.
I hope George does a one for them one for me so that we can get wasteland. With the new dc stuff, have him make the justice league movie he wanted to do and when that makes bank, make Mad Max.
I love the scene where furiosa shows jack the peach seed, that she reveals to him that there's another place with green is done visually and not a exposition dump
'Cause we got the exposition dump in the beginning of the flick. It's visually interesting, since the old man really, REALLY knows his craft, but I was bored to tears for a solid 20 minutes going in. Now just as I began to fear he'd never get his wheels to grip he thankfully switched to "high-octane guzzeline" and we got that magnificent, eye-popping stretch of pure cinematic orgasm. Oof . . .
@@vincelang3779 How was it boring??? Furiosa was kidnapped and the film begins with a chase sequence through the desert.
@lilscenechick1995 Sounds counter-intuitive, doesn't it? I sat there and it was just a bunch of noise. Colourful noise, to be sure, but the fact that a bunch of crap happens very quickly to a bunch of people I don't know - one of which is the protagonist, so OF COURSE nothing permanent would ever happen to her! - leaves me uninterested.
Here is a "slow" and "boring" beginning of a movie that always gets its hooks into me : APOCALYPSE NOW. Heck, even Miller's own THE ROAD WARRIOR opens with a stately prologue that sets the tone before cars start flipping over . . .
I'm sure I would have loved it in my 20's, when I listened almost exclusively to ultra-aggressive heavy metal! 🤣

It's actually Implied that one of Dementus' men is the one to cut Furiosa loose, as he's seen sheathing his machete in the scene after dementus gets off the hood of the truck. And he's also seen in various scenes quietly disagreeing with Dementus' actions.

“We’re looking for a place of abundance.”
“What’s abundance?”🤣😂😆 The low-key humor in this was great.
Furiosa turned out to be such a freaking good backstory for her. The creativity was amazing. Any time George Miller & Crew transport you to the world of the Mad Max’s Wateland it’s a special treat. Miller is the Picasso of post-apocalyptic action movies. Fury Road is one of the greatest movies ever made & while Furiosa is a continuation, it’s own movie. All the haters who said the trailer looked too oversaturated with too much cgi can eat poop - it looked incredible.
While you can say it’s not as good as Fury, Furiosa is great in its own right. It’s not in the same stratosphere & that’s fine. You can’t make Fury Road again & directors rarely make a follow up that matches its predecessor or as good a sequel as Furiosa was. Comparing it to Fury Road isn’t really apt or fair despite the connections. The Furiosa naysayers & critics are myopic & can go to Hell. Furiosa is amazing. The fact that it’s similar to Fury Road in the look & backdrop yet is so different in its format, style, story telling, character use, etc really shows how creative George Miller is. It’s changes really help make this feel different & so enjoyable. I freaking loved it.
By the way I just recently discovered your channel. I usually listen to my NY Mets game, ambient music or movie reaction vids while I’m studying for my IT certs. So I was watching & listening to yours as it was in my feed today. So I’m listening to your voice & was thinking why does it sound familiar? And why does he look familiar? Yo voice, intonations & speaking idiosyncrasies are very similar though: more so than compared to your looks. I think that’s a compliment😆🎉
George Miller did it again with this one. I love Furiosa the movie and Furiosa as a character. But Chris Hemsworth gotta be my personal highlight of the movie. 🔥🔥

This movie looked absolutely stunning in cinema. When you know the right angle, you can make even the craziest of movies look beautiful.
To me, it felt like I was watching a poor man's Fury Road made by people who didn't understand what made it work - the irony being that it was made by the same director (but not the same DP, sadly!).
For various reasons they couldn't spend as much time and money on shooting on location and the stunts. I still think most of the action looks good but as a prequel to Fury Road the limitations are a bit of a shame.
@@SCharlesDennicon "A poor man's Fury Road" implies that Furiosa's trying to mimic the 2015 movie yet it's nothing like Fury Road in it's structure and story telling... and rightfully so.

Fun fact: When Furiosa confronts Dementus near the end of the film, she says, "Remember me? In Fury Road, she says the same thing to Immortan Joe just before she kills him.

I went and saw this at a theater with RPX sound and "Buttkicker" seats. So you would feel every engine rumble and explosion. Worth every penny.
I went to see it in theaters. While I'm still unsure if I would put it on the same level as Fury Road, I still consider myself satisfied.

Best movie of the year by far (yes, counting Dune). What an absolute masterpiece. Brilliant character writing, incredible use of color and symbolism. It's a shame it flopped at the box office, and I have my theory of it. 1. Disney burned people on female led action movies in established franchises. They released too much crap, and it hurt the market for everyone else. 2. Recasting the lead. Charlize Theron was incredible. Recasting her was a poor choice. 3. Bad promotion. Badly cut trailers that showcased the few CGI shots. 4. Bad, unmarketable title.
None of this is the film's fault.
About the black car she drove: furiosa turned on the supercharger (kinda like turbo but driven mechanically by engine belt) via switch on the dashboard, which I think is a reference to Max's car ("interceptor") that also had a supercharger, which is turned on by pulling the switch on the shifter. The latter feature is seen in her war rig back from fury road, which is itself a reference or callback to the interceptor's

is it me or is every marvel actor literally amazing outside of marvel?? chris is a better actor than i thought he was just by me seeing this movie. i feel the same with mark ruffalo in poor things
These "marvel actors" are IN Marvel films because they are good actors. That's the whole point. They get the paycheck because they've proved themselves in other movies. Marvel movies are just a cesspool and don't challenge anyone.
You cant ever have mother earth and father sky. Y'all will one day remember this....
I almost want to have a daughter just to name her Furiosa.
I wanna have a daughter so there's someone in my house who can fit their hand inside of a pringle can
Let's hope it stays at "almost", eh ;) ?
35:50 “almost there just gotta lose the hair”, well… shes also gotta lose 1 other thing 😂
Ha! You’re not wrong 😂😭
the only thing unrealistic thing about the furiosa character is her not just liking women (generally wise and atraction wise), as all the men in her life were monsters and traumatized her while the only kindness and normalcy she got in her youth were the wives and breeders. psychologically she would hate men and be sexist too
@@アキコ2003what are you talking about? She does. She hates men. And rightly so. But like most women in a world owned by men, you don't have a choice but pretend and play the game.
@@アキコ2003 I don't think we really see Furiosa's sexuality. I don't think her and Jack have anything romantic going on. Also this is a terrible take.
@@lockekappa500 they were definitely eluding something with her and Jack. I'd rather they not show her sexuality in the movie at all since it's irrelevant to the plot, but they choose to do some random romantic relationship with a man, she hates and is traumatized by men.
And no, it's not a horrible take, as it's proven in psychology that your upbringing does help with your sexuality.
Awesome movie. The story, the design, characters, everything is so stylish and deep. George Miller is a genius haha
Yay, I’m SO glad that you guys have reacted to this 🥳
This movie deserves far better then it got.
Thank you so much for reacting to this film and giving it its due
this is very much a worthy prequel to FR
Loved the movie, 10/10
What a great film
Is this already out on VOD?? Man, it's kind of a shame you did not support this by watching it in a theater, but obviously I'm happy we get to see the reaction now. That being said, its box office underperformance will probably mean this is the Last Mad Max movie for a very long time, unfortunately.
Maybe, maybe not. George Miller is at the end of his life, and if he wants to make a last Mad Max film, he'll make it. I just don't think making another Fury Road is possible. So it's hard to top either of these films.
Didn't stop movies getting made after the lukewarm reception of Mad Max 1, 2 and 3 in fairness
@@NickHunter Mad max 1 for a while was the most profitable movie of all time. Based on how much it cost to make and how much it made.
Anya Taylor Joy played a great Furiosa, she even looked and sounded like Charlize Theron as well
I can't prove it but I'm willing to bet twenty bucks that when she says (her back to the camera) "I need a vehicle" it's actually Theron's voice, added in post . . .
Woah! You are the first to react to this movie! Great job!!
I love that Max is a perfect mix of Dementus and Praetorian Jack. He lost everything and he's in this incredibly dark place where it's almost like the only thing he cares about is himself, yet at the same time he has this belief in doing what is right, even if pulled into it against his will. He's a hero and a good man who has lost himself, but finds who he is again and finds his redemption. I also love Dementus's twisted father daughter relationship with Furiosa, it's such an interesting twist on a villain and when he says that Furiosa has become him, he's not wrong, she really has turned into him in order to survive, but then she meets Max, someone very much like Jack and that changes everything for her.
Furiosa cut her arm out, lost her lover, claimed revenge and get a new metal arm. She is really the female version of Guts.
Anya Taylor-Joy is great in everything she's in but if I had to give an MVP award I'd give it to Chris Hemsworth. He commanded every scene.
It's unfortunate that this film didn't do well in theaters. Here's to hoping it's digital and physical sales are solid otherwise we may not get another Mad Max film.
My favorite scene in the movie is the one during the first chase sequence with the War Rig, where Furiosa's mask comes off revealing she's a girl, and she and the driver are working together to keep the bad guys at bay, while trying to navigate the desert. It's very reminicent of bike chase scene from Fury Road. You can tell it was retroactively written that way on purpose to showcase why Furiosa decided to like Max, because he reminder her of Praetorian Jack. You even get hints of 'Brothers In Arms' from the Fury Road soundtrack.
I'm so glad you guys are doing a reaction to this movie, I know it bombed at the box office which is disappointing but the movie itself is great, I saw this on my 18th birthday with some mates and had a blast and I just happened to be watching another video of yours when I saw this pop up, what a good surprise it was, hopefully there's some good reactions!
We hope you enjoy! Thank you for joining us ❤️
@@OfficialMediaKnights just wondering if you'll be doing a reaction to The Hateful Eight since you've been watching a few Quentin Tarantino films over the last couple months as it's one of my favourite movies of his and is quite underrated.
Furiosa has the same issues as any prequel. We know the characters will survive so any tension is immediatelly dismissed. And who cares how did Furiousa lost her hand? Or how did Han Solo get his gun?
Jack just got eaten by dogs that’s mess up😮😮😮
The best movie in the whole franchise 👏👏👏👏 Furiosa was the best part of Fury Road and I’m so happy we got to see her story!
This did well at answering questions that Fury road brought about not just about Furiosa but other thing as well.
What a weird movie, it felt so different from Fury Road because of its pacing but also completely of a piece with it. I almost like it more because you can sit with the characters a bit longer, and of course Hemsworth’s performance as the various Dementus was an absolute pleasure. But I dunno, Fury Road is such a perfect movie. Taken together they almost complete each other, I think I’d probably show Furiosa before Fury Road to new viewers because of that.
100% Show someone Furiosa first. Because I think Fury Road kind of neuters the excitement of Furiosa, but NOTHING can neuter Fury Road.
Dementus and Scrotus were both seen (to some degree) in the video game "Mad Max" back before Fury Road came out. Scrotus is the main villain of that game, and Dementus has a gravestone.
Love love loooove this movie! Everyone did an amazing job here and if you haven't yet, definitely watch the behind the scenes of this movie, with how George Miller, Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth all worked through to give these characters SO much life and characterization. Absolutely shows HOW deep these connections the actors made to give them their all. Absolutely so few movies really broach their performances this amazingly like Fury Road and Furiosa gave us!
One key thing I love is Dementus and how he changes across the movie. We see him as a very guru/religious messiah, garbed in oure white, wearing his parachute like robes. He's very soft spoken and gives a more gentle approach to everything....then they find the first War Boy and the Sky Blood and he gets bathed in red and becomes Red Dementus and gets more aggressive and chaotic, like killing his own men for Gas Town to open up into the trap, where before I don't think he would've turned on his own men that quickly for a bigger prize. Then fast-forward to him ruling Gas Town and his all in Black as Dark Dementus, and he's bleak, melancholic, bored and depressed, saying there's no hope and hates the love and connection Furiosa and Jack shared. And then at the very end, he's very grey, ashy and ready to die and just full of acceptance and seemingly giving up and welcoming the end...
Like we Essentially get four major shades of Dementus and Hemsworth giving a truly layered performance unlike any other.
34:40. The main reason I watched this is for ur reaction to their strict matter of fact conversation on the fury road.
Anya was also great in the Northman. Great pick to watch too
I got a little bit of Dune vibes from her in that role. It may be a stretch but I also noticed that Tim's role in The King might've sealed him as Paul
Hi there and hello Media Knights.
In case you missed it the V8 that Furiosa is tasked to drive is an early model Plymouth Fury. 1963 I believe.
Another Mad Max Classic ... George Miller is the Boss,Respect from a Nova Scotian ... WEBSTER MILLER ! :)
At 17:00 they even stole the snowmobile hahaha.😂 WITNNESSSS MMEEEE.....
Loved this movie! Can't wait to watch your reaction 😊
dementus is such a child, but played brilliantly by Chris Hemsworth. i hope he plays more bad guys.
I remember him in Bad Times at The El Royale. So intriguing as a bad guy.
About the only thing I dislike about this movie is the implication we may never see Furiosa again. What a great prequel. I never expected to get to see where she came from and why she is who she is.
Saw it in cinema and I enjoyed it!! I m sad it underperformed at the box office..
Oh when Jurassic Park reaction will be dropped??
Glad to hear you had a great time! JP will most likely be dropping on the weekend ❤️
This is only the second movie I've seen theatrically this year (the other being Dune Part 2) and what an exhilarating ride it was. George Miller is the only filmmaker working today capable of making this sort of an action film and pulling it off with style. Your reaction to this was well worth the wait. Best wishes to you both from Nigeria x
Please react to the old mad max movies there Australian classics
I love Denise's reactions ❤️.. She has a great time and it's adorable to see her like this
Thank you! 😄
This comment section is confusing me, maybe I'm too old. Do people not know that there were 3 Mad Max movies before Fury Road? Furiosa was a different beast as Fury Road, since it wasn't a simple chase, but the story reminded me so much more of the world building that was in Thunder Dome, actually making it the perfect link between the two, smoothing out an eventual chronological rewatch.
I prefer this to Fury Road. I've always been obsessed with morality and general philosophy, and few things have scratched that itch like Furiosa and Dementus's final confrontation and the poetic nature of his death (by the way, it was at this point that I really thought, damn, I have to struggle to remind myself this is Chris Hemsworth; he is a far better actor than we gave him credit for). And your observation that the movie feels like a novel is spot-on. It's so immense and immersive, just like a novel. Fury Road is just as brilliant in its own right, and together, they form as close as perfect a duology as two films can be: this, the slow burn prequel (lol was writing this just as you called it a slow burn), and Fury Road, the full throttle main story, both full of heart and wonder but unlike anything else out there.
