As a source mapper myself, I cannot deny that the maps for Postal 3 are insanely well made and highly optimized. It would definitely had been a terrific game had Akella’s A-team developed the entire thing. It’s A shame what happened to this game
As someone who has more connection to RWS. They want to do more with postal but with how Postal Redux failed (as they wanted to do more top down shooters) and yes they are small at this time there are only 2 devs and they are stuck on finishing up postal 4. Honestly if Postal 3 ended up like this, it would be so cool if it had more updates and attention that it could end up like GTA with FNV's amount of routes and agency
Finally somebody else cares about Postal 3 beta... I was always a bit disappointed how overlooked it was, considering it was always the main leak any ways.
@@Botul1Yeah, 'course, but still, Postal 3 had a lot going for it in the leak, but, yes, it is true that popular games would get more attention... I don't really like beta Source game communities anymore as much because, it's always: HL2, TF2. I feel like games like Left 4 Dead even doesn't get as much attention from the big boys and big modders.
Postal 3's development is so interesting to me, and I wish there was more documentation on how it changed from the original vision to what we eventually got. Also I love the Dude's beta model.
Love the video and the editing! And yes I agree with the conclusion that RWS have been dropping the ball lately and hiding behind Postal 3 jokes as a crutch. As someone who *loves* Postal 2, playing Postal 4 drains my soul and makes me realize how much better Postal 2 is in so many ways. Glad someone is calling them out about it.
These early concepts for Postal 3 had way more potential than Postal 4 in it's entirety. I really liked these many new additions to the gameplay and branching story lines, going out beyond Postal 2 formula and expanding it. Only if RWS had more budget. Instead we got Postal 2 again but on new engine with shit graphics, unfunny jokes and lackluster humour.
Postal 4 would actually be a pretty good game if it was Postal 2: 2... but it isn't. It's just a mediocre title that fails in following up to the game it's aiming at. Even with all of the technical issues aside, the entirety of P4's design is "one step forward, two steps back". The gunplay is floaty, iron sights are ass and the experience is overall just bad, while Edensin is boring, uninspired and a chore to get through thanks to its size. And then, the quests are like a collection of the worst P2 and AW had to offer. There's some potential but I find it unlikely that P4 will ever become more than a 6/10 at best. I'll just take Paradise Lost again and be happy.
@@EmilyKimMartin You have exhausted the topic. Couldn't say it better myself. But honestly, Postal 4 is still praised way too much by the fans for what it is. To give some of my two cents about P4, the main gripe I have with it is that it's akin to what the new Simpsons are to the old Simpsons. Postal 2 was made in a time where the moral authorities were incredibly concerned about these newfangled vidjagaems and upstart politicians wanted to lift their career by banning this evil that seeks to corrupt our children, which lent Postal 2's stance of "being as offensive as humanly possible" some genuine bite and heart to it. A huge portion of Postal 2's views and comedy and themes have aged like fucking milk, but I think it still has some cultural value in that, it's a perfect time capsule of that early 00s/early-South Park rebellious DGAF attitude where everything and everyone were being made fun of. Now most of what Postal 4 does is just repeat its old raunchy gags in a new skin, stuff that might've given a soccer mom two decades ago a heart attack, but nowadays just makes everyone either mildly dilate their nostrils or sigh in annoyance. Postal 4 is too out of touch to be a good satire, and too disconnected and meta to be a sincere stand-alone work, as it would instead constantly go "remember this? remember this?" instead. It seemed to me like they didn't bother with satirizing or making talk about any of the daily frustrations the world has been suffering through this last decade, instead it just repeats it's same old raunchy gags . That's a big part of Postal 2's fun and notoriety, atleast in my opinion.
