I find it interesting how it initally was going to have fictional cars entirely like prior games, but final game only has few commercial vehicles and the taxi/police car be fictional. Did you make a showcase of all vehicles in that build yet?
I did last year! Check "Driver NG (San Francisco Prototype) - All cars and vehicles" For the licensing, Reflections said that the prototype was just there to test things, but licensing was planned
What's your favourite landmark in the alpha version? For me, it must be the Hills (Twin Peaks, Sutro Tower) and that freedom in comparison to the final version
I guess the Oct. 2008 build was mostly a beta version, and they made refinements to the models to fit the game engine capacity & perfs requirements. It seems that the Art team is working fast, as the city was already filled with many landmarks at this early stage!

The real Golden Gate Bridge has sidewalks for pedestrians too! But I suspect this build has some sort of "always peds next to a road" setting, even in places where no cars spawn!
Watching the bones of the prototype LOD system function makes you appreciate their optimization in the final game.
Even the February 2011 build is far from being optimized, the performances aren't great

This prototype is closer to DPL than DSF, time-wise!

It’s even more interesting how the only fictional car that made it to the final game is unobtainable under normal circumstances (the Asymm Desanne)
