Good video. The spin off games kind of showed how committed Polyphony Digital were to making Vision Gran Turismo before cancelling it for Gran Turismo 5. Vision Gran Turismo was originally supposed to have bikes. Probably all of the bikes that were included in Tourist Trophy. Having a dedicated bike game running on Gran Turismo 4's game engine may have even come off the back of the idea of having bikes in a full Gran Turismo game. Going into the next generation there's Gran Turismo HD. That just showed how weird the PlayStation 3 GT games were. It was originally supposed to be a demo for Vision Gran Turismo, but repackaged to only show what the PlayStation 3 was capable of. I think this is also why Gran Turismo 4 Online on the PS2 never got a proper release. Then we have Gran Turismo 5 Prologue which from everything that I have read was supposed to also be included as part of Vision Gran Turismo, and not an extended demo of Gran Turismo 5. It is somewhat widely believed that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's game engine is the same as Gran Turismo 4's but with a few minor modifications to get it running on the PS3.
1:48 inside the game files of gt concept theres actually a few cars with the string "dmv" at the end of their filename, which probably stands for "detroit motor version" various acura badged versions of the hondas featured are also hidden in the files, so an american release was probably planned but never went through
As someone who didn't get a chance to play these demos or GT in general this was an interesting video to watch through, I didn't know GT made a motorcycle game lol. I'm surprised they haven't retried doing that, I think it would cater to bike enthusiasts and bring in new players if it were attempted again.Great video as always Dove, props to you & Sharicite for making another awesome video!
18:42 Incorrect, they also released the GT Academy games from 2009 to 2013, with the 2013 one essentially being a demo for Gran Turismo 6. They were available as free downloads on the Playstation Store & completing them would give you the GT Academy exclusive cars (really just Nissans but with a custom livery) in the main games.
Tourist Trophy looks like Polyphony experimental game and the fact it came out same year with Gran Turismo HD (2006) is something you wouldn't see it todays.
20:27 Well, MFGT released now because It was internally pushed back and back, at least, that's what I assume Theres pretty much all GT7 1.0 content besides a few cars, (some of which you can't even keep like the 4C, Alphard etc). If this demo was released in, say, early 2022, about a month or more before GT7, this would have been INCREDIBLE and would have created INSANE HYPE all around. Even the ending FMV mostly uses 1.0/early footage, as well as the overall vibe of that video, reminding me of GT PSP's GT5 teaser at the end of that game's credits (which shows the 2009 NASCAR cars 👀, GT5 only has the 2010s in the base game and 2011 as DLCs) I really have no idea why was It pushed back this far into GT7's lifespan, probably to make sure GT7 had most of Its intended content like Sophy, but that's a stretch IMO. Also, speaking of throwbacks, the main menu is awfully similar to GT HD Concept (the very same demo/build played on this vid. I Wish someone found the older GT HD Classic and Premium builds) Edit: I forgot to mention, remember GT For Boys?, the... thing that was supposed to be released on the PSP? That one morphed with GT PSP (and GT4 Portable, hence why there's nearly all cars and tracks from that game). What if they kept the GT For Boys idea until 2021/2?
the only part I take odd was that Tourist Trophy had dirt bikes, but none of the rally courses of GT4, and in the case of GT7 for a TT2 idea, imagine motocross on Fisherman's Ranch or some other course of Dirt (except the snow)
1:58 While yes, Tokyo-Geneva is best known for the PAL release, there are Asia Region NTSC versions of it. They are Product Numbers SCPS-55902 and SCPS-55903 and you can find disc images of them Online. Don´t know from the top of my head if they are in English though, but one of the 2 releases was China specific IIRC.
Oh.... heyho Dove! (Yes i am that Fenrill from one of your streams). It just triggered me without end. About GT on the psp, or better the psps itself. It was the fourth revision. There was the fat one. The 1000 modell. That a slim one, the 2000 model. After that the third revision came along. Also slim, but with more features. After that they released the fourth model. The so called psp go. Later on they released another normal psp. The fith revision. Very cheap, but with a discdrive again. Sorry, should not sound strange. Just wanted to clarify that. Otherwhise, great video. Thanks for that. ❤ (Even i knew everything. It was fun to watch.) Bye! 😅
Kaz said he hasn't done TT2 because "the technology isn't there for immersive bike sim". Well there's now multi thousand dollar bike sim rigs that have full lean and tilt and use VR to put you in the experience, but Kaz will still find an excuse not to make the game.
Fun fact: GT HD was supposed to be its own standalone game next to GT5. From what we know it was basically an updated version of GT4 with some new features like the Tourist Trophy bikes. Shame nothing came of it, it would've probably been awesome.
Sometimes I wonder if an indie developer will end up creating a spiritual successor to Tourist Trophy similar to how some Ace Combat fans made Project Wingman. I'm not into bikes but I feel like motorcycle enthusiasts have it rough when it comes to good motorcycle racing games.
I first played GT5 Prologue way back in 2008 on these try- out- consoles in german Mediamarkt. Kids where standing in line, the graphics where great. Back then the Nissan R35 and Audi R8 just released and where the Halo cars. I only played NfS titles as I didnt have any consoles and only got to experience it again once RPCS3 was able to run it. Great tech demo, in the end GT6 is just the best version of GT5 Prologue :) Today the market is so changed, autoshows arent that big, tryout consoles are mostly gone, demos are rare. Games launch in " early access" as full price, are live service and maybe get patched right...
15:30 I swear I'd never even seen this car anywhere and now, suddenly, for the past week or so I keep seeing that car It looks so good, how come I never noticed it O: Then again, I'm not really a car gal but still The Mitsubishi FTO GPX... (I know the timestamped one isn't a GPX but still) it looks like an alternate version of a Supra, really pretty ^-^
Concept Tokyo-Geneva was my introduction to Gran Turismo franchise, I bought It back in 2018 I think, and I shit you not I had to play the game in Black and white for a whole year because my TV had a different setting to the dvd, untill I changed the PS2 config to NTSC, and boy was this game beautiful, like buying a TV with colors back in the 50's. even after playing GT3 I would come back to Concept. Top 3 favorite GT's easy
The Toyota Pod is still one of the funniest and cutest cars to ever appear in a game. Almost worth buying Concept just to see all the weird cars and characteristics the later games didn't include.
i completed My First Gran Turismo at 2 days that the game was on the ps4 store, same at GT PSP. but PSP i completed like 20x times the game, cheers from south america :D
The only big problem of those concepts and prologues is that those were sold, which is a bit of a dick move for a glorified tech demo (looking at you GTHD)
Why? They still had more stuff than a demo. You could even play through it. Back then, most demos only had 1 or 2 races. Also they where budget priced. I didn't bought them, but most of them where still fun. (Got them later as resell). Have a nice one. And yes. Excep5 gthd. But that was a free demo.... They also sold it in japan as disc. But in the store it was for free. My brother owned it as download on ps3. He just downloaded it.
Gran Turismo: The License Test Simulator. This begs the question: Are the licenses just keep spawning endlessy because its a series staple, or is this stuff patented only, and sorely for then? I've never seen any other developer actually do in any kind of sim-like racing game.
I'd like to see Gran Turismo 7 adding actual races rather than the crapfest garbage of starting 45 seconds back and having to rubber band your way to the front around rolling roadblocks. That would be a nice addition to the series I think.
Is all of the GT fanbase like this? You all sound angry on every comments section, like, can we talk about the topic in the video? It’s always bashing, that has to be exhausting.
@@PKSunset It is called having standards and wanting a racing game with actual racing. In GT4 I had an absolutely incredible race driving my Superbird against a TVR on Infineon, and you absolutely cannot get that in modern GT. I dropped GT6 very quickly after I saw literally every "Race" was the exact same crap played the exact same way (You spend 2 laps getting into second place, then the 10 second gap to the leader magically disappears just in time for you to overtake him in the final corner). Shame on me for wanting a racing game with some RACING rather than a series of time trials with rolling roadblocks.
I played GT5 Prologue and PSP and i still remember how much of a struggle the tuned car challenge was for me in GT5P at the time, that freaking S2000 GT1 Turbo was too damn quick. But as for the GT PSP, I spent a lot of my time where my PSP was still working on that game. Collecting a bunch of random cars and just race and race and race which young me would just have endless fun on, especially when racing the bugattis on new york and watch the AI crash. I do have the gt psp mega mod which changed some challenges, car sounds, added some tracks and uh... Questionable way to balance difficulty imo. Like... Pitting an rx7 type r against r35's and shelby cobras.
Yeah, I don't like MFGT, due to having bugger all in it. Hopefully they may do something like with GT5 Prologue, where it continues to be updated, but that is wishful thinking
@PKSunset It's still way too small to offer a Gran Turismo experience like the mainline games, so just a heads up, there will be dealerships, tuning, hundreds of cars and all the pizzazz. Just a question, when you're done with GT7, what game would you want to move on to
lol the biggest spin off is Gran Turismo 7 fr, you know the one where they removed what makes a gt game a gt game. starting with a shitbox and working your way up.😢
Perhaps the most interesting thing about those games was how many cars some of them seemingly had, but not also the tracks to back that up, which allows fatigue to settle too quickly. Of the earlier entries, I definitely felt that even the base GT3 is overall a noticeably more repetitive game compared to GT4, and the lack of B-Spec sure makes it more tiring as well on long and difficult events, not to mention the absence of rewarding events that can be used to make some quick money early on, which GT4 famously had (see Costa di Amalfi), so advancing early on into the game is tedious. One could circumvent some of those limitations with save states in emulators so that you can just take a break and come back later after having enough, but that's not how the game originally worked, no? GT4 is just more fun and has much greater variety. Just too bad later entries started focusing more on multiplayer and neglecting the singleplayer, ending up with fairly grindier experiences as well. I remember GT7 received harsh criticism at launch for how grindy and greedy it ended up being compared to previous entries, which surprised everyone. Updates tried rectifying that, but no idea whether successfully or not. That being said, kinda funny how the pace car works in the other games as well, this time around it can be exploited to meet the player's ends unlike the mainline entries where it just does its job and that's about it.
Everybody gangsta 'til you pass the pace car in GT Concept
😂 and hello there sir
Bruh... It's much easier than in Gran Turismo 4
True. It is ONLY ever time that player is allowed to pass Safety Car in GT franchise.

True. RIDE 5 alone is already impressive.
GT PSP is awesome, still popular online racing community

the reason for My First Gran Turismo is for comemorating the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, just that
I think it's more about advertising GT7 to younger players and anyone who's not previously tried sim(cade) racing.
