- It's time for another review and today I'll be tackling the deep, dark cybernetic world of Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase on the PS1! I've never been a big fan of Scoobs, Shagster and the gang to begin with, and all this game did was further that hatred. This could honestly be the worst platformer I've ever played... oh wait, Bubsy 3D exists. The second worst then!

ABOUT THE GAME
Scooby-Doo and the gang find themselves in cyberspace. A new villain called the Phantom Virus must be stopped. Scooby and Shaggy must go through various levels to defeat him and his evil villains. Along the way they collect Scooby Snacks for points, Scooby and Shaggy coins for extra chances, Scooby dog tags for checkpoints, hamburgers for health/energy, and pies for weapons. Fred, Daphne, and Velma help Scooby and Shaggy to overcome obstacles by giving them important game playing moves and tips via Velma's handheld communication device.
GameRankings gave the PlayStation version a score of 61.67% and the Game Boy Advance version a score of 60%.
Jennifer Beam of AllGame, who praised the PlayStation version for its sound effects and voice acting, wrote, "Relatively decent 3D graphics enhance this game, but almost every area has a level where shadows are indistinguishable from pitfalls."
Hilary Goldstein of IGN reviewed the Game Boy Advance version. Goldstein praised the animation and the music but criticized the sound effects and the password feature, as well as the ending for not having enough "Scooby flavor," writing that, "No masks are removed and Velma doesn't spout off some long-winded explanation of how the culprit pulled off his evil machinations."
The PlayStation version of The Cyber Chase received a "Platinum" sales award from the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), indicating sales of at least 300,000 copies in the United Kingdom.
In 2010, Steven Jackson of Retro Gamer called the PlayStation version one of the best Scooby-Doo games ever, despite similarities with the PlayStation game Crash Bandicoot.

I had this game, couldn't get past the second level so just played Spyro instead.

I only watched the movie but it was one of my favourite animated Scooby Doo films as a kid. This, Zombie Island and Witches Ghosts were my top favourite Scooby films. I never got to play any of the games though. I missed out on a lot of movie based games but it’s interesting to see your review on this Tori.
I loved Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost just for the Hex Girls. :D

I couldnt get past the first bit of the second world, the jumping was so broken i kept dying to those pillar jumps

The best way I can describe this game is "Crash Bandicoot: Toddler Edition".
Pretty accurate!
I've beaten Crash Bandicoot Warped with platinum relics, but never got further than second level in Cyber Chase :D It was that hard for me, for one reason or another.

Awesome review. This is one of my favourite PS1 games. Some levels were annoying but it was great to play a Scooby Doo themed game with gameplay similar to Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped and Tomb Raider PS1.. Your editing and commentary is always the best part of your videos. Keep it up!

I remember this being one of the "random" games I had as a kid. When I wanted to play a PS game that wasn't Spongebob (because I was big on Spongebob when I was younger) I would pick this game up and play it. Maybe I slightly remember beating it, but I remember how dark the Rome level got and I remember the beginning of the game when I think of it
I think I might have said this before but I love you so much Tori you always know the right things to say during your videos plus your always honest with the reviews compared to other reviewers who sometimes lie about things they dislike plus you always know how to make an entertaining review with very funny gags and references keep up the great work with the reviews

I recently tried this game out the other day cause I always wanted to play it as a kid. Needless to say I gave up at the lion fight, I thought I was the only one having issues with the platforming. Scooby Doo and the Cyber Bullying indeed.

Great video! I loved the jokes and editing! As for the game, I'm so sorry you had to go through this garbage. I played this once at a friend's house and I wasn't impressed. It was kind of like playing an unfinished version of Crash Warped except you play as two jumping tanks.

From what i remember from playing the game as a kid, outside of the final boss and the bridge section of the prehistoric world, the game to me was a cake walk. Even more so as I've played the game as I've gotten older. I think the game is alright and was worth growing up with, but i understand your criticisms.
Thanks for watching, MTRZ! Yeah, I think I would have had more appreciation for it and been more forgiving overall if I had played it as a kid.
Honestly, Cyber Chase, Zombie Island and Alien Invasion are the only Scooby Doo films worth a watch imo.

I mean, no, it might not be the best PS1 game, but i don't know. I guess i was too young to mind most of what you mentioned here. I never finished it either, but only because the place i lived in that had this game had a rule that you could only play a certain amount of time before giving the console to others. I wouldn't play it now or anything of course, but it was a timekiller for me when i was 10 or something! I just wanted any way for the weekends to go faster! Don't blame me for that! XD They randomly had this game, and i thought "Why not?". After that, i was already into it, so why not just continue for a bit? I completely respect everything you said though. Just telling you why i have ever liked this game ever. Now, personal recommendation for future let's play/review of PS1 games, i say Empror's New Groove or Donald Duck: Quack Attack. Those were some of my favourites too

I have so many memories of loving this game. But then again, I have the same number of memories of hating the difficulty of this game. And even then, I only remembered Japan and Rome... Maybe I never actually beat this game as a kid lol

I agree with your points despite having a lot of nostalgia towards the game except where you criticise the games 'hand holding'. I feel as the general demographic of this game is very young - it could be some childrens first game so that is really there to help guide them.
That's true but I wish developers would give kids a little bit of credit, at least on boss fights. 😂

the game is honestly pretty fun I just played it again I'd give it a solid 6/10 or 6.5. The only problem with the game is the 100% run like you have to keep the multiplier going so it forces you to keep jumping if you want to get 100% of the collectibles other than that and the enemies it's not bad for a movie tie in game on the ps1
I was really young when I played this game but it was definitely hard. Not my favorite PS1 game. The Egypt boss fight, the prehistoric level, and the carnival level was so hard. Even the last boys fight was so hard but I was lucky to beat it. The only good thing about this game was the robot boss fight.
The robot boss fight was definitely the best in the entire game!
The reason Fred, Daphne and Velma made Shaggy and Scooby do all the levels is because they know they're expendable and never contribute to solving mysteries. If they die, they basically lose nothing of value 😂

I guess that They also ripped off Mario as well with giving You different Levels to choose from in A Room and it's like Gex I guess that it also inspired Spider-Man Friend Or Foe

In all seriousness though, this game was mildly amusing when my little brother got it back in the day. Going back to revisit it, its only entertainment value was in its weirdness. Laughing at the enemies' bizarre movements and noises is more fun than actually playing the game.

I know I'm gonna add this game to my PS1 collection one of these days despite it being terrible. Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase is one my favorite animated films from the 2000s, yeah it's a bit goofy but I still love it. Thankfully I did not grow up with the game, just a quick cash grab to loosely coincide with the movie. Hey Tori, I got one for ya, look into Pepsiman, a japan only ps1 game!

One thing that seemingly every new series of Scooby Doo seems to get wrong, or more likely ignore, is that the monsters in were supposed to be just people in costumes, not actual creatures of the night.
Mystery Incorporated kinda gets a pass, even after the evil, talking bird leading a group of third reich look alikes shows up.
I never thought about that, good point! They should invest in an x-ray device to see who's under the costume and save time.

That was my childhood favorite Castlevania Symphony of the Night I'll be thinking when I was a kid both castles you get the regular Castle in you get an upside down Castle upside down Castle I know how to get the best sword in the game it's like lion claws

@@ToridoriGaming it is really good the problem with that game when you die you get kicked back to the title screen the could get pretty hard especially when you do the second castlebut die once you get sent back to the title screen but it saves your progress if you don't get to the saving spot you lose all of your progress
@@ToridoriGaming I guess you could say it's kind of like dark souls in a way but not as hard as dark soulsthe only thing that's like that you lose your progress if you don't get to a saving spot that's it I mean it's hard at certain points but it's not as hard as that game
So, I wouldn't call this game a masterpiece, but calling it one of the worst platformers is a bit harsh IMO. But then again, I've got a bile fascination and frequently go out of my way to play bad games so I may be skewed.
I'd call this game a solid 5 out of 10. It's not great by any means, but there's a whole lot worse out there you could be playing instead.

I remember playing this game even... I can feel the nostalgia but only because I played it as a kid, but I do remember the game being outright difficult as fuck. Like wow that game was cheap as hell and I never liked the difficulty of it.
I always thought the 3D model of the Phantom Virus was very unsettling so I got scared of this game as a kid and traded it for a copy of a far better game (Nuclear Strike)
this was a favourite of me and my friend (and a constant reference into adulthood) but looking at the footage.... i don’t remember this game at all

As a kid, I thought the game was okay but frustrating, though I was able to 100% complete it (as frustrating and unfair as the final boss was). After seeing your's and Caddicarus' videos, this game annoys me even more and aged terribly. Even as a kid, I was reminded of Crash Bandicoot, and I was Caddicarus levels of Crash fanboy!
What does lion claws you absolutely destroy everything
This game was the first Playstation 1 game I owned and played. I got it for my 7th Birthday along with the Slim Playstation 1 console 😊 I remember for the longest time I couldn't get past the first Rome level with Shaggy, mainly because I kept dying at this long jump during the 2D section at the beginning. I could never make the gap where the floor crumbles underneath you and you have to land on a pillar. Me and my mum tried numerous times to make the jump, until one day I somehow managed to do it 🤣 I was so happy when I finally made the jump, think it was pure luck lmao

...I also last played it almost 15 years ago, which is probably why I have any fond memories of it at all.
I think I did actually manage to beat the game (albeit not 100%, but who cares), although having heard from others how unfair he can be, I have no idea how I managed it.
Also, side note, looking back I think I had a crush on Daphne as a kid. I suppose even back then I had a thing for redheads.

Before anyone down here wants to defend the constant tutorials with the "it's for kids" bullshit that's been debunked a gazillion times already, I'll have you know that I played Crash Bandicoot 1 before I learned how to read and figured out how to play it very easily. I knew of the concept of trial and error and assumed that both _that_ and video games were intertwined. I'll always remember when I first played Crash Bandicoot 2 and first saw the Nitro crate in the first snow level and thought "OOH, a new box! I wonder what that does," and when I exploded, I realized "oh, touching it makes you explode, got it."
A late as hell but try playing Bugs bunny lost in time ps1 you will get a kick out of it as well.

Another weird licensed game I had as a kid and somehow beat. Don't think I ever completed it but I did beat the last boss.
I do remember the controls being stupidly stiff and that killed most of the game. Would've been okay otherwise. Not great but has a tiny bit of charm to it.
Scooby Doo Unmasked is definitely better though, if we're comparing Scooby Doo games. You can control it, for one.
I will still firmly say : Scooby doo night of 100 frights is a good game. And Scooby doo mystery mayhem is p/ good too. But less memories there. I make no commentary on this one from personal experience tho. Lolol

I thought the game as a kid was fun but challenging, the only gripe I have with the game is the final boss, the most cheap boss I've had to fight (Still can't defeat him today! )

I think a lot of people have nostalgia for this because they grew up watching Scooby Doo and so anything in the franchise gets the nostalgia glasses. However, once those glasses are removed, this game is objectively terrible in almost every way.
I think destroying terrible licensed games would be a wonderful niche for you, Tori. I mean, that's pretty much what you're doing with Harry Potter and the Curse of the Microtransactions anyway, lol.
I think if I'd played this as a kid like others had I'd be a lot more forgiving than I was! But bloody hell, this game is so rough. 😂
