A recent milestone was reached with the semi-launch of the first Triple-E at the shipyard in Okpo, Korea.
In order to make room for completing the next ships, the drydock was filled with water and the partially completed hull towed into the bay.
The Maersk Triple E will be the largest ship in the world when it launches later on this year.
The Triple E stands for:
- Economy of scale
- Energy efficiency
- Environmentally improved

Capacity: 18000 TEU
Length: 400 metres
Draft: 14.5 metres
Beam: 59 metres
Height: 73 metres
Optimum speed: 19 knots
Top speed: 25 knots
Deadweight: 165,000 tonnes
Engines: Twin MAN ultra-long stroke diesel engines, rated at 32 MW each, with fuel consumption of 168 g/kWh
