The team at Discovery follows the construction of the world's largest ever container ship as they push engineering boundaries to deliver the first Triple-E on time. This exciting preview gives a glimpse into the series.
In a dock yard the size of a large airfield, an army of engineers is building a ship like no other. it's longer than 4 football pitches and capable of carrying more than 18,000 containers. It's the world's largest ocean going cargo vessel.

Why do they have to add all of this stupid fake drama? This stuff is interesting without all the terrible fake drama.
William Grand I think it is very well done. It held my interest.
Reporters... somehow they all seem to do that. I think it’s the part of them that wishes they just worked in regular movie production.
It's now 2021 and your comment is still true more now than back then.
I know it's 10 years now but it's cool
So these guys can build the world's biggest ship faster than my city can re-pave a road
yep took mine 5 years to do a 1km section lol
in the uk they leave some roads for years, and they don't even fix them properly so the holes come back, bigger and bigger lol
same here bud
In my city it took 1 year to build a building with 3 floors
thanks, Maersk Channel for giving no credit to the hard working people of Korea's Daewoo Company which builds these gigantic ships. you should also know that all of the world's top cruise ships and many aircraft carrier and warships are built by Korea's other shipbuilding giants, Samsung, Hyundai and STX. just a fun fact
sakamuras s you're hopeless....
Discovery Channel made the episode, why blame Maersk ?
I also think that the billions of dollars these projects are costing for Maersk are more than enough credit for these people.
Designed in Denmark, built in China, and assembled in Korea.

Just pick them off like we do.
Not sure about that one m8
I work for maersk, in a harbour terminal we have. I got a guided tour of one of these giants, and asked the captain about pirates. He said there were no issues for ships this size, they are going too fast to board safely, additionally the ships are too high to board.
@@dennisns112Bro pirates may not board the ship but AK-47 bullets can. I think it is enough to wipe all crew in the bridge and force the captain to stop the ship then ask for ransom.

As a proud American the comments posted here sadden me. In truth, I would like to apologize on behalf of my counterparts who have taken to name calling, insulting, and generally degrading the rest of the world because they have failed to evolve with the times. It is truly unfortunate that many millions of Americans have lost their jobs to outsourcing, but the response to that should be evolution of our economy, increased educational opportunities and job training to make us more competitive. The response should NOT be insulting parts of the world which are experiencing their own industrial revolutions much as the US did in the early 1900s.
(And before you flame away, consider that I worked for over a decade as an auto mechanic and then returned to school for an engineering degree. If I can evolve, so can you.)
Wise words, dude..
I agree with you wholeheartedly, but don't degrade yourself by apologizing for other people. Leave that to the politicians ;)

Biggest where, in Denmark? There are and were quite a few tankers over 4 times larger (DWT over 600k tons).
Seems the producers never heard of ,,Knock Nevis '' 635 000 tdw !?
World's biggest container ship
FaithlessDeviant I understand that. However the movie claims that this is the "biggest ship". I own the world fastest car (in my driveway). My wife's car is a Camry, probably 5 mph slower than my Scion.
EngineeringFun yea its dumb. it's as dumb as Danish people in this comment arguing Denmark contracted South Korea for CHEAPER WAGES. lol. They don't realize 29% of the world's ship tonnage comes from South Korea and that is not because of cheap labor but because South Korea has the largest steel industry in the world. In fact, ship builders are not minimum wage workers. They are high paying highly educated field in Korea. Average Korean shipbuilders have higher wage than European or American shipbuilders. These Danish people don't realize South Korea and Japan build thousands of 800,000+ tone ships
ohDannyBoiii Thanks.
The biggest ship ever was the Knock Nevis, it was 1,504 ft long (rounded) so this ship will be 1,312 feet long. Nothing compared to the Knock Nevis

Bro, just get to the point, no need for all that drama...
The worlds largest ship is actually the Sea wise giant/ Knock Nevis / Jahre Viking
Might be the largest ship existing atm, but the largest ship ever built is indeed the Jahre Viking, or Knock Nevis, or one of the other names it had... Still want a documentary of that one. Too bad its scrapped :/
Its knock Nevis it can't leave Britain because its too big to go through the English channel and it can't go through the north sea

Auchaly Knock Nevis is the biggest ship in the world its so big it can't leave Britain because its too big to go through the English channel or go through the north sea so it just sits there useless but it is still the biggest ship built.
This was built in a matter of months... That's astounding!
The widest ship ever ULCC (Ultra Large Crude Carrier) was built in my small home town in Sweden, Uddevalla. It was called TT Nanny. Later bought by some American company and renamed to Sea World before it was disassembled in China in 2004.
Daewoo of South Korea builds the state-of-the-art Aegis-class destroyer ships, which only a handful countries in the world (US, Japan, South Korea, and Spain?) can produce. Do Danish have Aegis-class destroyers??? I don't think so.
This ship was built by South Korean technology. It was outsourced to Daewoo by Maersk, by giving Daewoo specifications of what Maersk wants from their new ship, because Daewoo is reckoned as the most advanced shipbuilder in the world.
Daewoo as the guys who built Daewoo Matiz and such? Holy shit I had no idea
No, Denmark have no destroyers. We have frigates "Absalon-class" and " Esbern Snare-class".
@@MK-vh9wz Wow you replied to my comment 6 years ago. It probably is an overkill for Denmark to have aegis-class destroyers anyway. South Korea has to encounter North Korea and other hostile neighborhood. Japan for example has more than 12 destroyers, I think.

may i ask why the netherlands is flooded!?
Knock nevis is longer by about 60 meters and bigger in general I'm pretty sure
Maybe it's not counted officially as a ship anymore since it is being scrapped, and perhaps they don't just mean length, but overall size, although both count, right ;)
Yeah, either they aren't counting scrapped ships (or forgot to include the term "currently active"), or they forgot to specify "cargo ships". Either way, it's misleading.
The is about...9.2.6✖️ the size of titanic
To put it into perspective, the width of this ship is about half the length of a General Cargo Ship in the 1950's.
You guys dont want to hear this but somehow i got here by looking up that magnetic fire fluid stuff to see what it would look like, then i started watching videos, then i got here
I have always wondered how do they fit all that cargo on the ships and have it equally balanced so that no containers fall off.
Stowage plan is much more complicated than that, requiring much computer time. Once loaded containers receive much external cross-bracing to tie them into blocks. Stowage requirements: facilitate efficient offload, maintain ship stability/trim, separate incompatible cargoes, provide power to reefers and allow them airflow, place branding outboard (j/k there).
This thing is unsinkable, just like the Titanic.
Dude, The titanic did sink.... yet again, It could have been avoided if the told the captain sooner or if the just hit the ice berg head on..... Ya, They should make this the Titanic 2.

The Triple E 😱 holy moly!!!!!!
I see korean letters in every corner of thi ship. I think that the koreans made this biggest ship in the world
Oh so.. it's bigger than the Titanic
Amazing work. With Emma's hull halfway complete she needs to be moved. Behind her are two vessels which just got commissioned with their bottle bash and need to be towed to the outfitting pier so Emma's bow can be installed. To do that Drydock 2 has to be flooded and Emma has to be towed out and turned around so the two ships can leave Drydock 1. Once they are gone Drydock 1 is flooded and its gate is removed so Emma can be brought in then they drain it and build Emma's bow in Drydock 2. Once both sections are complete both docks will be flooded again and the two sections joined before the final flood and the bottle bash and Emma's first voyage out of Korea.
Now this generation ordinary petrol makers used animal.,human body for processing the CH4 chemical reaction. Workers is hinding.
This is not even close to being the world's biggest ship. This thing is around 90,000 tonnes. Supertankers are over 400,000. There are hundreds of ships bigger than the one in this video. This might be the biggest container ship, but that isn't the title of this video. Well done, Maersk. Before, I was indifferent to you. Now I actively hate you and your lies.
I'm sure the cargo is worth a hell of a lot more than $400 Million, that's only $32,000 per container. It's probably upwards of $2 Billion.

Did I hear them say only 38 weeks to build? This is why mistakes happen and people get hurt. I ship this size should take longer than 38 weeks. Yeah I want a ship that has a rushed wield job. No thanks.
I know the welds are inspected. That is an amazing task. Hats off to the crews. Ignore my other foolish post.
Rob Young No, you where right the first time. Just because something is inspected doesn't mean that things can be missed. Rushing jobs is a major problem in business culture. You were right when you said that is why mistakes happen and people get hurt.
I think they had 38 weeks to put those pieces that had already been made together. Not build it from scratch.
korean companies are notorious for getting things done fast WITH quality (what separates them from chinese companies). it's why they've been contracted to build 20 of these ships
