The surprise player will be Saelemaekers. There is similarity in the way he was used by Motta and Fonseca as a right footed left winger. I also think both coaches like the same quality in him, the guy can press quickly once the ball is lost, and do it over and over without complaining without stopping. Unlike what we saw in the pre-season, I don't expect him to be deputy of Leao, but he will be a regular sub used in variety of positions whenever and wherever we need a hole to be plugged: right wing, left wing, midfield, right back... There will be nothing flashy about his contribution, and his impact wont be felt or noticeable in the same way as if Leao or Pulisic is having a good or bad game, but think of Camavingas first season at Real Madrid. There is nothing of note he did in 21/22 besides an assist in the semi against Inter, yet he was still an integral part of that team while playing in almost every position. I am not comparing the two pound for pound, I am just making a parallel of their possible utilisation, versatility and the effect it can have in the long run. And in a long season, having that type of player can be invaluable, and I think by the end of this one, he will become an unsung hero.

Now, with consistent playtime and a fruitful move away on loan, that Alexis seems to be making a comeback. Alexis will bench Pulisic, different playing style and different coach, more off the ball movement and quick passing, Pulisic has not been known for this, he thrived with his tenacity and shooting ability under Pioli on the right side where he was afforded space. The 10 position is different, and we saw what Alexis did against Napoli when he had his stint in that position. Now he is stronger smarter, much better with ball at his feet and great in tight spaces....

I agree with you. Milan will be champ this season. With Fonseca playing the same formation, no overhaul of first team, we are upgrading. Motivation will be higher than Inter. In UCL we will go far. We beat the last 2 UCL winners. People said that they were only pre-season and Madrid/City fielded reserves sides. This is funny cause Milan did the same. Toriani vs Ederson and Courtois, Roediger vs Liberali, etc. So expect to see Milan raise a trophy or two. Or at least will make us proud again..

I think Puli will be most impactful because he's finishing with both feet now and as a 10 he'll be in position with the most options - pass left or right, dribble at defenders, shoot from/with the left or right. And finally, it's not just that he got goals last season. It's the kind of goals. He used to be mostly limited to crashing a post or fairly close range goals, but now he's finishing from all over the place... especially outside the box. Opponents have seen him now so they'll have to respect that, so he'll draw a lot of defensive attention. I expect him to get a lot more assists this season 😁

I have to say that management messed up big with the whole Fofana signing. They negotiated with Monaco for 2 months and managed to move the price from 25mil to 25mil and in the process Fofana missed the whole pre-season with Milan.
i wish we could just use the loan + option to buy like literally every other top italian club. this way we could easily get lazar for 5m now and 20 next summer and potentially even get another striker or cb backup

It was a good mercato so far, except Zirkzee we got all our targets supposedly with Fofana included here. Samardic would be a bonus to the squad, the only thing I don’t like is that we lost Simic and very probably Kalulu soon but is understandable players wants more minutes to play. I think most people don’t like Royal because he is already 25 and didn’t impressed much in premier league so they look at him as a flop, is not the RB I would have choose but I trust Fonseca on this. To determine whether or not Milan’s signings were sufficient, one has to take a deeper dive and assess the club’s shortcomings last year across three major areas (technical, tactical and player personnel). If we agree that goals conceded was the main problem (Genoa had less goals conceded and they finished 11th) - then we have to explore the causes in order to rate Milan’s performance in the mercato (spoiler alert, I give it 8/10) On a technical level - defence starts at the opposition’s own third, which is to say, Milan’s pressing/counter-pressing last year sucked; Milan had a slew of unforced errors in buildup possession which gave way to many goals in transition; duels won and ball recovery were atrocious; defending in dead-ball situations (corners, indirect kicks) was improved but not nearly where it should be; fatigue and concentration were a problem after the 70th minute of almost every game. On a tactical level - Pioli’s man-to-man defensive setup simply did not work; lack of compactness between the lines; Pioli’s defensive setup did a terrible job protecting the width of the pitch; 3rd in yellow cards and 1st in red cards given😬. Player Personnel: Goaltending - Mike needs to be a lot better this year. Back Four - in order for Mike to be better, the back four need to be better. With the exception of Theo for most of the season, the backline was horrendous. Midfield - none of the midfielders were able to defend and protect the back four! Kessie’s and Tonali’s absence were really felt last year. Attack - the 4231 is only as good as the wingers being able to stay behind the ball and defend the wide areas of the pitch from transitions. And once again, winning the ball back higher up the pitch was a rarity last year. Mercato Solutions: Fonseca: Players were analyzed but not coaching, and yet this was the most important move made by Milan this year. Though improvements are needed, we have already seen vastly improved pressing, more sure-footed possession, and a more compact shape in defence. Strahinja Pavlović: A left-footed CB was always needed - and he happens to be intelligent, mobile, fast, aggressive, good with both feet, and an absolute beast in the air. Alvaro Morata: Fonseca’s setup doesn’t require a classic striker who’s gonna score 20+ goals. Other than speed, complete technical skillset and intelligence - Morata is unparalleled on the press, ball recovery, work rate and provides a much needed leadership. Emerson Royal: Milan’s only depth signing who will have to fight for a starting spot, but is a solid addition. In fact, he’s the only player Fonseca asked for, not to mention he possesses a skillset that we haven’t seen since Massimo Oddo and Cafù before him. Fofana: I hate to sound like a general after the war - but I knew he was coming to Milan. His profile is that of a complete midfielder and very rare at that. There’s a reason why Monaco’s valuation was so high for a player who has one season left to play. In my opinion, what would make this transfer market a 10/10 is added depth to the no. 10 slot and perhaps the backline. Forza Milan!
Kush we are taking it!!! 7-1 odds I already put my money where my mouth is. There are some big factors that have to go our way like signings performing and less injuries. We can build great enthusiasm and scudetto magic. Inter will get a reality check and with a little more pressure and more teams figuring them out possibly. I think a really good shout for surprise player will be Jovic. He has looked fairly clinical in the pre season. I think by the end of the season he will be making a good shout for starting minutes. His last season was overall quite good and I think his goal tally might jump a good amount this year
People shouldn't overrate Fofana we had another Monaco midfielder which didn't turn out the way he did in Bakayoko. Lets first see how he turns out, Maldini going opens the door for Liberali. So not upset about that at all. The Futuro players will be the ones to watch this season. We have improved, while Inter and Juventus hasn't. Better than 23/24 and definitely better than 22/23. For me the Mercato is a solid 7. 7.5 with Fofana.

Clearly Pulisic has the most impact for reasons he covers the most ground on the pitch, offense, defense, counterattack, creativity, drawing fouls, making things happen. He impacts every aspect of the game. Most impactfully he can easily get 20 goals, 15 assists. That's where the real impact is measured.
Also, my prediction is Jovic is going to take off. Fascinating he was given the 9 shirt with Morata coming in. With an attacking midfield trio of Leo, Pulisic, Chukweze you can expect anyone in the striker role going to produce a lot, provided their finishing is there.
It als depends on the pauses between the match schedule. Last year, we had the worst schedule.. Too many big teams on a row. We were playing UCL and also seria A. Napoli Inter Juve Roma Lazio.. all in a short timespan. The players didn't got the chance to recover. Hopefully, this year, we will get a better schedule 📅 🙏
That Fabio guy is just wrong when he said we all want a young striker. I guarantee you they bought in Morata to give Camarda time at Futuro. Buying Zirkzee or Sesko is nonsensical when you have a small budget + a wonderkid in the making.
Ok.... im giving it a good 7. Here's why. I think we are forgetting the fact that we are getting a big refresher in our strategy. More attack. More pace. Constant pressure. How many times did we complain about Calabria not being "offensively minded" enough. Royal adds that. He's a great signing. He's going to add pace and offensive strength on the right side. Which will help our left side. We will not be as predictable and we will have more knives in the kitchen to work with.

Predicted Finish : 1st - I'm on my 4th glass of Kool-aid already. Most Impactful : LEAO - Has to be Leao. He is the most talented offensive player on the team and the only one that has the potential to be a true world class player. If Milan are to close the gap and overtake Inter Leao NEEDS to be the most impactful player. Surprise : THIAW - We don't sell him and with Fofana in midfield plays with a calm mind and begins turning into the player we hoped for last season.

I can’t see a Chiesa move at this point, we do have quite a few wingers right now. Fonseca seems to really like Alexis, Chiesa’s salary would make him one of the highest paid players so I think there’s not much of a chance of that move.
I have a feeling the most impactful this year is going to be Chukuweze, who looks totally reborn. He played so little last year that Serie A defenders still don't know him so well. For position, I feel we will be a lot closer to Inter. Not sure if we can beat them, we need a bit of luck for that, but I do think we can give them a run for their money this year.

To determine whether or not Milan’s signings were sufficient, one has to take a deeper dive and assess the club’s shortcomings last year across three major areas (technical, tactical and player personnel). If we agree that goals conceded was the main problem (Genoa had less goals conceded and they finished 11th) - then we have to explore the causes in order to rate Milan’s performance in the mercato (spoiler alert, I give it 8/10)
On a technical level - defence starts at the opposition’s own third, which is to say, Milan’s pressing/counter-pressing last year sucked; Milan had a slew of unforced errors in buildup possession which gave way to many goals in transition; duels won and ball recovery were atrocious; defending in dead-ball situations (corners, indirect kicks) was improved but not nearly where it should be; fatigue and concentration were a problem after the 70th minute of almost every game.
On a tactical level - Pioli’s man-to-man defensive setup simply did not work; lack of compactness between the lines; Pioli’s defensive setup did a terrible job protecting the width of the pitch; 3rd in yellow cards and 1st in red cards given😬.
Player Personnel:
Goaltending - Mike needs to be a lot better this year.
Back Four - in order for Mike to be better, the back four need to be better. With the exception of Theo for most of the season, the backline was horrendous.
Midfield - none of the midfielders were able to defend and protect the back four! Kessie’s and Tonali’s absence were really felt last year.
Attack - the 4231 is only as good as the wingers being able to stay behind the ball and defend the wide areas of the pitch from transitions. And once again, winning the ball back higher up the pitch was a rarity last year.
Mercato Solutions:
Fonseca: Players were analyzed but not coaching, and yet this was the most important move made by Milan this year. Though improvements are needed, we have already seen vastly improved pressing, more sure-footed possession, and a more compact shape in defence.
Strahinja Pavlović: A left-footed CB was always needed - and he happens to be intelligent, mobile, fast, aggressive, good with both feet, and an absolute beast in the air.
Alvaro Morata: Fonseca’s setup doesn’t require a classic striker who’s gonna score 20+ goals. Other than speed, complete technical skillset and intelligence - Morata is unparalleled on the press, ball recovery, work rate and provides a much needed leadership.
Emerson Royal: Milan’s only depth signing who will have to fight for a starting spot, but is a solid addition. In fact, he’s the only player Fonseca asked for, not to mention he possesses a skillset that we haven’t seen since Massimo Oddo and Cafù before him.
Fofana: I hate to sound like a general after the war - but I knew he was coming to Milan. His profile is that of a complete midfielder and very rare at that. There’s a reason why Monaco’s valuation was so high for a player who has one season left to play.
In my opinion, what would make this transfer market a 10/10 is added depth to the no. 10 slot and perhaps the backline. Forza Milan!

Kush we are taking it!!! 7-1 odds I already put my money where my mouth is. There are some big factors that have to go our way like signings performing and less injuries. We can build great enthusiasm and scudetto magic. Inter will get a reality check and with a little more pressure and more teams figuring them out possibly. Maybe couple key injuries I really don’t think they are as deep in every spot as people suggest. Fresh season. New coach for us but already looking like an improvement! The gap is small!!!! Need to be hungry and believe !!

I think a really good shout for surprise player will be Jovic. He has looked fairly clinical in the pre season. I think by the end of the season he will be making a good shout for starting minutes. His last season was overall quite good and I think his goal tally might jump a good amount this year
People shouldn't overrate Fofana we had another Monaco midfielder which didn't turn out the way he did in Bakayoko. Lets first see how he turns out, Maldini going opens the door for Liberali. So not upset about that at all. The Futuro players will be the ones to watch this season. We have improved, while Inter and Juventus hasn't. Better than 23/24 and definitely better than 22/23. For me the Mercato is a solid 7. 7.5 with Fofana.

Clearly Pulisic has the most impact for reasons he covers the most ground on the pitch, offense, defense, counterattack, creativity, drawing fouls, making things happen. He impacts every aspect of the game. Most impactfully he can easily get 20 goals, 15 assists. That's where the real impact is measured.
It boils down to defense. Inter would pull off wins when Milan would pull off draws. Goals allowed needs to go down.
Also, my prediction is Jovic is going to take off. Fascinating he was given the 9 shirt with Morata coming in. With an attacking midfield trio of Leo, Pulisic, Chukweze you can expect anyone in the striker role going to produce a lot, provided their finishing is there.
It als depends on the pauses between the match schedule. Last year, we had the worst schedule.. Too many big teams on a row. We were playing UCL and also seria A. Napoli Inter Juve Roma Lazio.. all in a short timespan. The players didn't got the chance to recover. Hopefully, this year, we will get a better schedule 📅 🙏

Ok.... im giving it a good 7. Here's why. I think we are forgetting the fact that we are getting a big refresher in our strategy. More attack. More pace. Constant pressure.
How many times did we complain about Calabria not being "offensively minded" enough. Royal adds that. He's a great signing. He's going to add pace and offensive strength on the right side. Which will help our left side. We will not be as predictable and we will have more knives in the kitchen to work with.

Transfer Rating : 8 - Higher than most would rate it but hear me out. You landed all of your #1 targets outside of Zirkzee all while the entire world knew who you were going after. With that and other clubs coming in they held to their guns and got things done without being fleeced on any of the deals.
Most Important : FOFANA - Like everyone else said he's going to fit in to a hole that has been there for a few seasons now. That should settle things all over the field.
Predicted Finish : 1st - I'm on my 4th glass of Kool-aid already.
Most Impactful : LEAO - Has to be Leao. He is the most talented offensive player on the team and the only one that has the potential to be a true world class player. If Milan are to close the gap and overtake Inter Leao NEEDS to be the most impactful player.
Surprise : THIAW - We don't sell him and with Fofana in midfield plays with a calm mind and begins turning into the player we hoped for last season.

I can’t see a Chiesa move at this point, we do have quite a few wingers right now. Fonseca seems to really like Alexis, Chiesa’s salary would make him one of the highest paid players so I think there’s not much of a chance of that move.

I have a feeling the most impactful this year is going to be Chukuweze, who looks totally reborn. He played so little last year that Serie A defenders still don't know him so well.
For position, I feel we will be a lot closer to Inter. Not sure if we can beat them, we need a bit of luck for that, but I do think we can give them a run for their money this year.
