Yeah the fandom has definitely driven off a lot of people in that sense. Like I'd love to see Vinesauce play it but people are so anal about Pacifist/Genocide rather than letting people experience the game genuinely for themselves.

But it’s not about specific routes, one whole playthrogh is all three endings. He didn’t finish the game.
Tbh the voices he did for the characters were really great

@@ismtud1364 I think it made the playthrough much more fun. If he had just read the lines in his normal voice, I wouldn't have been nearly as interested to watch this through. The fact that he went overboard with the voices was good. He was having fun with it and he brought so much character, to the, well, characters.

I remember the moment where i also played absolutely blind and killed toriel thinking there is no other way, and after doing it i felt bad and loaded the game, and after sparing her and getting back on rail flowey suddenly mocks me for being a safescumming pussy, such a minor detail that most people missed, but holy shit this sold me the game
This also happened to me and at the time it was mind blowing to me that a character was aware of the Loading and Saving mechanic

This is the single best thing I've seen in years. Someone -actually choosing-. The "King Papyrus" Ending is something that I'd wager a LOT of people have no idea even exists, due to the flags you have to set in the neutral route. Thank you so much Asmon.
I'm legitimately interested in what his fun value was.
the game has an upwards of like 80 endings. some people have already flowcharted it even.
Of course I was secretly rooting for genocide to trigger at the beginning of the playtrough so he'd have to deal with the difficulty of it. But I liked him being authentic. So many other play troughs know in advance and optimize for it or stick to one style early on.
That was my first ending! I spared a lot more monsters than Asmon (including Asgore), but it gives that same ending.

YES! As a now casual gamer, I just pick walkthroughs when I get stuck. doesn't matter if I lost a certain event or item, I won't miss what I don't see. gaming got so much better, used to be a stressful process having to follow a certain order for playing a game.

To this day, one of the craziest things about Undertale is that Sans somehow made it into Smash and Sakurai is good friends with Toby Fox, and they play video games together
Chemistry was there, both of them have a thing for creating overpowered cute creatures

You do not, Flowey explains to you how to get the other ending step by step.
The geno one is meant to be optional and even discouraged
I'm not sure if Asmon would be Flowey´s worst fear or proof of his ideology.
Because on one side he follows the mantra of "kill or be killed" and wins through it, but on the other he's completely immune to his taunts and destroyed him without mercy following the very same mindset Flowey was espousing.
I guess you could say Flowey was prepared to face a Hero, not a Warrior.
Interesting thought, I remember being conflicted about sparing the flower. He follows a much simpler tought process haha

Well, killing Flowey is what he wants. He was absolutely prepared to face someone who is a warrior. The only things Flowey wasn't prepared to face were the 2 extremes: someone who wants to kill everyone just to see what happens and someone who wants to save him in spite of what happens.
He's exactly prepared for Asmongold because Asmongold is the typical gaming attitude.
@@treali Over thinking is a side effect of your intelligence and your confidence conflicting with each other, imagine two people wanting to go from A to B at night. The first person simply walks there, while the second person prepares in case he gets mugged or he trips and injures his leg or maybe it starts raining. It doesn't necessarily mean the second person is more simple minded but it does relay that his priorities are different from person A in accordance with his confidence to deal with any problems that may arise in front of his goals. Its kinda confusing with human intelligence and why we're different since its a very complicated topic. Keep in mind there are 2 main types of overthinking and this example only covers the type that dawns on future events.
Also to clarify the choice to spare or kill Flowey isn't based on over thinking its based on morality and the opinions you have on what dictates any action on your own spectrum of morality and their consequences like in this case weighing the actions of Flowey based on the context of his circumstances to decide whether or not to kill him which is the entire point of this game and how Toby Fox managed to make such a heart pulling narrative with such a simple mechanic is beyond me.

Undertale was for me the first game that really demonstrated the potential of indie games. A man, alone with only few collaborations and with a great creativity using pixel art and music, created a small game that destroyed most of the triple A games billionaire companies have released in the last 5 years.

it's not so much the pixel art that carried this game as much as it was the writing. The entire Papyrus section is some of the most I've ever laughed to.

While I do agree that a True Pacifist run offers the best ending, I don't think the argument of "no pacifist = unfinished game" is one of the reasons peoples view of the game is skewed. I see no problem in someone finishing a Neutral run and deciding to call it quits there. Let the players own curiosity lead them to a second playthrough.
This is one of *those* games. Played all 3 endings 7 years ago, decided to forget about it as much as possible so I could replay it someday in the future and remember as little as possible. Crazy how many details I had forgotten and how many others I still remember. Hope Asmon plays through the other 2 runs at some point.

it’s not seperate runs, the game is very meta in a lot of ways and one playthrogh is all three endings, he basically just stopped halfway through.
I'll never give the Underground peace by leaving this game alone after finishing it. And all because I want to re-experience that one amazing moment...

@@insertnamehere1398 You may think that but the first play-through is the longest. pacifist and genocide are both shorter runs and even when combined your first run is always gonna be longer. Besides saying you “quit something halfway through” is just a saying, you don’t have to take it literally.
I hope he plays the other 2 runs too, not just the ending is different, the whole game is different
I liked this ending. He got the ending he wanted and he had a lot of fun getting into character along the way. His voice acting is hilarious and I was so impressed when he finally locked in on his last run.

Honestly, Undertale is a pretty easy game outside of Geno run. When I played it for the first time I only died to Undyne and Flowey once each on the normal/pacifist route.
Yea, especially with how clumsy he was at getting hit and seemed to never use heal items. That said he played the neutral ending way so i'm guessing it's much easier with HP above 20.

i highly doubt he will do genocide, mainly because the hours of grinding the same mobs will likely not make for good stream content
edit: after thinking it through he *MIGHT* think it could be worth it. that is if he ever replays undertale again, and when was the last time he replayed a single player game for a different ending?

You could try to play Outer Wilds if you want the similar "Wish I could play it for the first time again" type of game.
It's not an RPG or a subversion of an RPG, but it's one of those games where going in knowing as little as possible is best. Just know that it's a puzzle game of sorts where knowledge is power, you could beat the game in 30 minutes but you don't know *how* since you don't know where you need to go or what you need to do.
There is a computer in your ship that keeps track of everything you've seen, but I recommend keeping a list of notes next to you with all the technologies you have seen and how to use them, so you don't get stuck. No explicit quest markers or anything, you go somewhere because *you* want to, not because the game is telling you to, the game just gives you a general area to look at and says "Go here if you want, or explore somewhere else first, take your time".
you may know rhis already. but the other endings are VASTLY diffrent then neutral. if you have not played them i would recomend it
Why is watching Asmon play Undertale some of the most wholesome shit ever? I love watching him play these little rpgs and do voices for the characters. All while playing a near deathless run.

Im so glad he liked it. From the first part it seemed like he was trying to do a "fun" stream focusing more on content with little care about actually enjoying the game itself, if you know what i mean. But i think he realized quickly that this game is more than meets the pixel-graphics eye

@@artonio5887 i also killed her on my first playthrough, i tried to avoid a fight but she insisted....At this point, it's a warrior's duel. I didn't like defeating her, but i had to pass through.

Deltarune is the next game from the team that did this game, and the first 2 chapters are already out. Don't know when it'll be fully out though.

@@sycariummoonshine7134 Toby has given updates saying they have team members working on chapter 3, 4, 5 and while he did the majority of the work for undertale he still had others collaborate (that are also involved in Deltarune as far as I'm aware).

as an undertale fan, im enjoying the playthrough.
the game has so many interactions based on choices that im seeing plenty of new ones. and asmon is really getting into it with the voices.
Undertale is such an amazing game! (Personally I think) it changed the perspective of playing rpg normally.
The story is amazing and all possible decisions you can make are written well thoughtfully. All you actions you make during your playthough have consequences, eg. story-wise when Undyne judging you for killing other monsters, or gameplay-wise when gaining "EXP" & increasing your "LOVE" effects the story and how you will progress, especially the ending.
Now there is reason why there is "EXP" and some kind of level system ("LOVE") and if you will randomly kill other monsters.
Sadly your "last decision" didn't trigger a cutscene which would tell you to try playing the game differently. It's possible to beat the game without killing any monsters & spare every enemy you encounter. Hopefully you will do the "Pacifist Run" some day! Thank you for the first playthough of UNdertale! :D

I find it so interesting that the harder route isn’t even the genocide route (edit: except, you know). Also that the amount of things he missed out on for killing was so large yet the game still made it so he still enjoyed his experience. This game is a gem fr.
genocide route has 2 very hard boss fights, but the rest is easy since you get up to 99 hp due to levels.
pacifist is hard because youre locked at level 1 with 20 hp all game. but the final boss cant actually ever kill you in the pacifist ending.

Toby Fox's writing held it all together. no amount of sweet babies could ever write a story even 1/10th as good as Undertale. which is wild considering he is politically pretty close to those type of people.

He deserves to miss out, that's the point of the game. Actions have consequences, if he killed off content then he's the one to have to miss out unless he does another playtrough where he doesn't. It's what replayability is all about. If he chooses not to play the game ever again he got the experience he wanted from it and thats awesome. If he had been able to see everything despite the choices he made the choices would have no meaning.
Love his variety content, very glad he's been playign outside his normal genres of games.

He beat Asgore once and died to flowey like twice which is better than most creators who I’ve seen fail especially on Asgore (imo Asgore is harder than flowey since Flowey is a gimmick boss and once you get that you’ll be fine)
Now that i see him finish this game, makes me wonder if he will like Inscryption. that could be a wild series.
One complete run to get the first of many endings would be good. If he tries another run after getting one done, we'll know he's hooked.

This Series has been amazing because I only played though it once years ago and lost it on my old laptop; was wanting to play again and it's been a major treat watching ya brotha. Completely unrelated side note if you happen to like card games and you really get into undertale there is a browser game you can play called undercards if you decide you want to try it then let me know I will gladly help you get into it it's online multiplayer and it has cards based off of basically anything from undertale even the freaking furniture

The main endings are pacifist and genocide. That’s what you should look up if you don’t want to play the game yourself.
However I would recommend it considering there are so many little things that don’t appear in online videos because they aren’t mandatory. I’m still discovering things about this game and I finished the main routes years ago LOL

hey asmon if you ever want to try the other two ends of this game then by all menas. the true ending being a full no kill route, the killer ending meaning you kill everything and not leave a soul untouched.
the ending you just completed was a neutral run.
