Yeah, sans figure out that you are possessing frisk really quickly, I think he can also tell in the pacifist ending, because he winks when he says "you haven't died a single time, have you?", implying that he knows you have a save/load mechanic.
It feels like that on the genocide run, sans knows you are some kind of supernatural entity manipulating the world, but tries to use empathy and later fear to coerce you into becoming good, knowing that there isn't any other way. He looks fierce but is probably panicking on the inside.
@@pixelstriko1642 Sans acknowledges the save/load in genocide as well - if you die to him and come back, he comments on having died to him, even keeping track of how many times (iirc it stops after 30).
I've never realised how short the sans fight is if you are just good💀
as someone who was decent at the fight (could consistently beat sans with 0 heals at one point), it still felt like a nerve wrecking gauntlet,

I just saw that fight in its true lenght for the first time and i feel like i could beat it (i never played true pacifist twice or neutral thrice)

Everyone is always saying that the ”but nobody came” message is annoying. But no one is realizing the how absolutely genius it is. The reason it appears so often is because the game wants you to realize what you have done. And make you feel horrible.

Fun fact: If you code in Jerry into a boss fight the attacks are actually longer but some attacks are a set time like the shield attack from Undyne.

Almost all of Sans' attacks are set, except for the "random" attacks (eg. Random Bone Platforms, Random Gaster Blasters)
Fun Fact: If you don't kill any Moldsmals in Waterfall (since they only drop 3 EXP), you can get to the Undyne the Undying fight at LV 11 instead of at LV 10.
I was stuck on undying for 2 months. How the hell did I not know this
LV 12 is also possible but the 2 hour grinding isn't worth it imo

just farm loox and make sure to kill the first froggit
LV 12 is also possible, but way harder. You need to get out of Ruins at level 6 (You need to kill Toriel at LV 5), then kill Glyde in Snowdin, and then avoid all Moldsmals. It's one hell of a grind, but makes the fight WAY easier since your Defense, Attack and HP are all considerably higher

Fun fact: Toby fox wanted the game to delete its self after a genocide ending but couldn't get it to work right and instead added the thing u get after you reopen the game you can still find code that say somthing like /delete UNDERTALE

Just a note btw, doing the "Frisk Dance" doesn't actually speed up encounters - it just allows you to grind for them optimally without changing position. You'd get the exact same result from walking up and down manually, that just takes a lot more effort :P

I feel like speedrunning Genocide is extra brutal, you don't even wait for the special dialog and even spare some enemies to kill them later because it takes too long. Also, you're destroying and restoring the world over and over just to get a faster time lol

Fun fact by doing a another play through correctly you can go through floweys text faster which saves a ton of time because he just says “do you have anything better to do” and then disappears .
Playing Undertale then graduating to deltarune. The stories get more complex and a lot more sad.. I get it’s just ‘pixels’ on a screen. But the characters having their own lives and stories- it makes killing them so much more difficult.
I get why a lot of people can’t do genocide runs because of this. Some of them plead, smile despite your actions or cry. It’s not showing ‘weakness’ for empathy. Even if they’re not truly real. It’s still sad to the majority.
I remember my first neural run as a kid. I killed shyren on accident and Undyne made me feel so bad for it. “She was getting better with her singing”- and went on to demean me for my one action. honestly gave me chills at a young age. Especially since killing her was so easy
I love this game. It's really crazy just how much this game changed things in the indie gaming world and in the long run in the AAA one considering things related to it made it into Smash Bros and Toby is doing music for Nintendo now. The genocide run is also my favourite run. Especially after doing a pacifist run. Love seeing how much the characters change.
Imagine if Pacifist Runs tainted Genocide runs. Like for one example the characters would be nonchalant about it, Sans would point out how boring it is, Papyrus asking Frisk if they want to hangout after they reset, Flowey being taken aback by how everyone’s acting, etc.
Another example being that it’s literally impossible to kill a monster which the underground takes notice of, like Undyne only takes 0.1 damage.

I'm pretty sure playing a genocide run before a pacifist run does change things, at least with flowey IIRC.

@@wyltedleavesit changes the after-credits scene, known as soulless pacifist. if you choose to stay with toriel, chara will appear with flashing eyes. if not, instead of the usual picture, everyone is crossed out besides chara.
I definitely don't have the willpower to do a genocide run. Thanks for posting this, I learnt tons about the route and the boss fights, will use it in the future if I ever feel cruel enough to do a genocide.

Undertale is litteraly my favorite Indie-game. I've played it too many times. To see that EasySpeezy is speedrunning it, I'm invested.

But I really recommend you play the messenger. Its a little less popular but I bet you all will love it.
One thing about the undyne fight is that the game actually tells you what’s gonna hit by showing the current arrow as red. It’s doesn’t really help in speed runs but it helped me in my current genocide save when the slow attacks came.

I may be misremembering, but I think at the start with Flowey, going directly into the left corner is actually marginally slower than waiting just a split second because of the speed difference of the bullets when you start around the edge. That might not be real, but I do think I remember that being fastest for me.

You know, sans reminds me of the kid one the basketball team who’s benched. Everyone thinks he’s terrible at fighting, then when his time shines, he’s one of the best players on the team.
Theres a very intricate spot that you can use to dodge the spear attack in the small box in the Undyne fight. If you get there it’s 100% impossible to be damaged. Little cool fact that I used to beat the fight.

Genocide route is basically the “scared lost child defeats kidnapper, attempted murderers and child murderers” route
and tries to kill other child as well as seeking out fights.
I've been practicing geno speedrun and my least favorite thing ever is fighting madjick (the magician guy), especially on warriors path because he basically is basically the final skill check of the run and it is so punishing if you don't hit the perfect quad.
27:58 you can make the long elevator part very faster, once you enter the elevator get out immediately and you will be in the new home.

Bro passed through the Undyne fight practically with his eyes closed and defeated Sans, a enemy I still haven't killed after 100th attempt like he was a paraplegic child
During the 4 player genocide run he was so sad when he killed everything now he sounds almost enthusiastic to kill them
the undyne attack which you find really hard has a pretty simple pattern. kinda just go up and then theres this path that forms in between the arrows and it just goes around in circles and its pretty easy from there.

Dude this run is so hilarious as to calling out anyone who plays rpgs...puts in perspective I had so many flashbacks of other rpgs I've played it was very specific as to how you feel in the grind and all that
I watched this video thinking "maybe I'll get some tips for Undyne" and then you just did the fight perfectly and I guess I just have to fight her for another 6 hours so I can be as good as you are.
Hey, my first time fighting her I kept pressing challenge (I wanted to do pacifist for my first run) and it's actually a good way to learn, q sink or swim.

What Chara, and also Flowey before you threaten him, want is you to do the true pacifist route (and chara also wants ur soul as punishment of thinking you're above consequences), flowey wants that so monsters know how evil humans actually are, and that the world is kill or be killed, and chara wants that so they can eliminate absolutely everyone, monsters and humans alike, but i think Chara thought all of this after killing you
So if you really want suffering, you would not erase it, you instead would break the barrier so you can cause suffering for both humans and monsters

It's weird how "refreshing" it's to watch this after Spec Ops: The Line. From a game where you're railroaded to be a bad guy and getting blamed for it to... Well... You are a bad guy, sir. Good run!
One thing that I should mention: I was wondering why he switched from the burnt pan to not get more healing, but given his route, he only would have gotten 1 extra HP from it. Another thing is that I believe this is the first version of undertale, the exploit he does in the sans fight is (last I checked) patched out
I could never get past Undyne in genocide. I just am really bad at blocking the attacks when you are stuck in the little box.
It took me a solid 2 hours of attempts. To my mind it's the best fight in the game, thematically, because it's actually a reasonable fight. If you're just good at the game, you can win on your first try. 100% skill, it's just hard. Sans isn't hard, it's just a matter of repetition. He cheats. No matter how good you are, you will not win the first time, because he cheats. But once you know the pattern, he's no big deal. And that fits the narrative so well... this is Undyne's dream, to be the anime hero that saves the world from the ultimate evil. She wants to win a fair fight, and she's the best chance the monsters have at doing that. Sans isn't like that. He's a bitter revenant whose only goal is revenge. By all means necessary.

late, but some advice on that one undyne attack you showed as being difficult with the homing spear spamming (the one where you got hit three times, second to last turn)
they always spawn on you so a wide oval around the box will usually go without being hit, it takes a minute to get it but once you do you’ll be doing it no problem.
So, I'm no speedrunner by any means, but I do have to ask: For the fights with the Dog minibosses, wouldn't it be faster to use the Stick which automatically puts the dogs into a spare state, and then hitting them?
Cause if I remember, enemies get OHKO'd if you attack them when they're ready to be spared

When I tried playing genocide, I stopped when I met Papyrus and he was all sad that I didn't do his puzzles
You know you don't need to save in order to be filled with DETERMINATION, right? You can say 'no' to the save screen and still restore your health.
i have no idea how this guy can just kill toriel without feeling any remorse, i’m pretty sure i’m on the neutral rought right now and on the meta ton boss fight, and i’m still super sad because back when i killed toriel, i thought i had to, but then i looked it up, and figured out i could have spared her
You still could but you are farther in the game so why not finish it? You have to finish neutral to do true pacifist anyways, tho it would be faster to not kill anyone because you wouldnt have to replay the entire game, i recommend you just finish your ending tho, neutral routes have A LOT of different endings
