Enjoy what you watched? Consider subscribing - I do Soulsborne, Nintendo & Souls-like Ranking videos, and I have a blast making them!
Just a heads up as many don't know this, you could have just deflected the ceviche sisters bullets back at them for an easy win. I didn't even get hit once.
Hellooo I voiced the Duchess, and for you to call my performance flawless has made my entire week!! Thank you so much, I hope you loved the game as much as I'm sure the team did making it! Thanks for killing me, I guess...? ❤
Thanks for tuning in! You, along with all the other voice actors/actresses did a phenomenal job! Had a blast with the game, and I think the whole team should be proud.
Fun fact, Pagarus is allergic to bananas... An NPC tells you this in the area before you have to face him. And if you use the banana peel and let it get caught in his grab, you lose your banana peel but Pagarus loses half his life bar hahaha
Is pagurus even optional? I did my first playthrough and before i even went to the grove i immediately said fuck it we are killing pagurus for fun (and fun he was) so i got no clue if he was actually supposed to be part of the bosses
Fun fact: topoda is actually a peacock mantis shrimp, a crustacean infamous for having one of the strongest punches in the animal kingdom. The mantis shrimp preys on clams and other prey along the seabed, and will use its extremely strong frontal claws to punch through tough clam shells, disorient fish before feeding, and deter predators. Their colorful shells serve as a warning to predators, in a similar way that some butterflies and frogs have bright colors to warn predators. The males are known to be more vibrant than the more red females in order to attract mates, and it’s not uncommon for two males to compete for a mate by boxing, often leading to the death of one or both of the males
I think inkerton is more funny of bloodborne reference if you consider the good ending of bloodborne which the hunter becomes an old one… a magic squid..
This game was such a pleasant surprise. Super expressive, great sense of humor, really creative and fun skills for both exploration and combat. There is definitely a fair bit of clunk and jank throughout the game, but it remains such a delight to play
It's a little janky, but that's just what happens with Indies so I'm way more lenient about it - I appreciate the "Kill yourself Immediately" button in the settings. Saved me from a few glitches. Honestly, I'm impressed at how well it ran for the most part.
Another Crab's Treasure, can shake hands, or at least weird hand and crab claw, with another semi-Soulslike from 2023 on those fronts of creativity, expressiveness and combat, one by name of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. It's not as strong or daring on the exploration/traversal front, but does have amazing music and atmosphere. Plus a very unique setting and art style. Inhabitants look like they could be designed by Stan Winston Studios for a Dark Crystal-type movie-- wonderfully ugly in a world that barely has organized culture, yet has a lot of color, beauty, some funny parts and melancholy amidst all the punching-the-snot-out-of-each-other with different findable Martial Arts styles of the world. Greatly recommend looking up the game, or at least check out the soundtrack. Two of the earliest tracks, The Boy Calls and Pseudo's Theme, are already super strong to set the tone of the rest of the game.
actually the Ceviche sisters are not prawns, they are pistol shrimps, actual sea life known for shooting high frequency bubbles with their giant claws (hence the name)
Fun fact. Praya Dubia is the scientific latin name of the real life Giant Syphonophore wich is the jellyfish thing we see in the boss fight. It's a superorganism related to jellyfishes that can reach 150 ft long. Look it up it's really interesting
I looked it up while researching for the video - I generally find deep-sea life to be fascinating & terrifying at the same time. It's crazy to think there's so much living down there in the deepest darks of the ocean.
@@BillySYT What I believe would have really fit as a secret boss for the depths ngl is that japanese siphonophore (search it up on google and see the images) It just screams Darksouls imo. Huge eldritch horror vibes. I also expected to see a cone snail or maybe a stingray enemy which would act as like an airship, would be cool ngl. maybe even gunked sea dragon enemies for the bleached city to fit the theme, not to mention the missed opportunity of glaucus atlanticus or nudibranchs too, what do you think?
@@Betweentwelv32567I really hope they do a dlc for this game. The potential for enemies is astounding. I was personally hoping for a spearing mantis shrimp to go along with the puncher and they could be connected in teaching the player umami stuff, similar to the brothers in hollow knight if you ever played that
I absolutely loved that fight so much. I haven't completed the game yet, but I don't see his fight leaving number 1 for me. It has been the only boss fight so far where I didn't use the Umami abilities at all and just parried and timed everything right. The banter, the environment, the mechanics, it all just felt so good and rewarding. I truly had no idea he was technically optional and thought I was supposed to fight him from the start
@@Kudian man it was sick when I realized he would counter parries with a followup and you had to parry again. That fight burned parrying into me and I will never discount how awesome it is for that. Nothing but me, my yogurt bottle, and a whole lot of parries.
A fun thing I learned today about the Shellsplitter is when he does his slam the bike rake in front of him move if you stand in the right spot you can actually just stand in the gap of his weapon and be fine.
As someone who fought pagurus the ravenous before even entering the expired grove. I loved it! I died so many times but it was worth it. I also got extra dialogue for getting the 3rd treasure map early. It was amazing.
I honestly hope there’s a future update to add New Game+ because a lot of the late game bosses were a bit easy considering that I and most players have fully upgraded their builds. I also hope there’s DLC, I wanted to explore more of The Unfathom and Bleached City, or maybe explore the aftermath of the game.
another cool thing about Pagurus is that his name comes from his species scientific classification, cancer pagurus. he also has a bobbit worm beneath the eyepatch that comes out after he reaches below half health which i feel like is either parasitic as the bobbit demands sustenance, or symbiotic as the bobbit benefits from his endless hunger
I didn’t do it at first but on my way to Flotsam when they were like uh oh you just gotta run for it now, I was like fuck it come at me 😂 and then I was like oop I got a map piece 👀 I think I wasn’t supposed to do that 🤣
Unfortunately, it was until after I beat the final boss that I found Topoda (I didnt see the hooks at the end of the village going higher up). Now I am too overpowered to enjoy the optional bosses behind the purple bricks, and I got to clean up all the collectibles I missed. Also, an endurance build with a valve shell means you can block mostly everything aside from red aggro attacks (you can even block blue aggro attacks sometimes), combine this with the Isopod stowaway (or two if you can find them), and you can zoom around the battlefield blocking everything
Take it from someone who had this be their first souls like, the bleached king is kicking my ASS with that sentry style of boss fight. Although I also love topoda! Probably my second favorite right behind inkerton 2
I swear youtube's search system is just broken, i'm searching this video typing the title almost word to word and it doesn't show up. I had to search your channel and watch the video from there, they are doing you dirty. By the way i love boss rankings, great channel.
@@BillySYT yeah, i thought i was already subscribed because your videos always show up in my home page, now i am actually subscribed. By the way the funny thing is that by typing things like "another crab's treasure boss ranking" it is not like it gives me other boss ranking videos, to my knowledge there are still none on this game except yours (but since this video doesn't show up either i guess i don't know, maybe there are other videos and it just doesn't let me see them). So it just gives me tons of reviews and videos unrelated to my research, honestly it is pretty annoying also because this thing already happened to me a number of times.
I haven’t seen anyone else say this. But if you have the spearfishing ability you can use it on heikea’s back to grapple him, which can cancel his frighten move while pulling him closer and damaging his balance. It’s also worth mentioning that this can be used any time you are behind him, not just when he uses his back flash. This feature was one of my favourite things about this fight and has made it one of my favourites in the game.
I figured this out myself mid-fight and it was such a cool detail. I also love the variety of the gimmick. The fight might have flowed better if they made her switch devices at each quarter of her health.
Volti was so annoying I pulled out the gun. Surprised Roland got so low. He was entertaining for me, because I've used Coconut all game. Have screamed "auto bots roll out" for the last 10 hours
@@angrysodacan276 Roland is easy with the thimble. Just use the shell spell and block during all of his combos. His posture rises while attacking the thimble too. I felt like he kept me on my toes while also being hilariously bombastic.
Inkerton's actual battle was DEFINITELY my favorite fight. I think I can honestly say that his fight was where I found my stride with successful parrying. Granted, it still took me a good amount of time to defeat him, the quick and snappy pace of the fight really helped me, and will help me loads with future playthroughs of the game.
The fact Inkerton is a very big bloodborne reference makes me love this game even more and makes me wanna buy the game even more, I wanted to get it because of the gorgeous gameplay, amazing atmosphere, and the characters are likeable enough! but the fact Inkerton has a trick weapon, a gun, and has that lovecraftian look to him, I'm gonna get this game!
Just got this game yesterday and im having loads of fun! Right now i got up to the sands between, and even though ive yet to beat him pagrus is my favorite boss so far. I love how they build build him up, like how everyone fears him. And how despite the sands between being an open area, i like how pagrus still restricts some areas, i think its a rlly creative and cool way to create a gap between areas you go to now, and areas for later. Still gonna try to beat him now instead of returning later, giving him the tree sentinal treatment
The music really elevated this game for me. First, let me start off with Praya Dubias second theme. You're fighting a boss, which has endured all of the oceans pain, fury, and suffering, and this boss is tearing itself apart in an attempt to inflict some suffering on you. the music is amazing, it sounds as if you can truly feel dubia wailing. it still gives me chills every time i hear it. Also, voltai may be a pushover of a boss, and yet her theme fits her so perfectly. its like you can hear the electricity coursing through the track itself. this game is a masterpiece.
This video made me realize I played completely differently then others like for instance you said you want to learn Topeda’s parry timings but the only way I found to beat him was to learn the timings and slowly whittling his health down
Just got around to playing this game. Such an amazing game that really hold its own. The gameplay, the art style, the comedy. You can tell the developers really put a lot of love and care into their product. Also, props to them for all putting so many easter eggs and references for you to run into while exploring.
Inkerton has to be my favorite character from this game. His design, his personality, his voice acting! AAAAH! So cool! Glad to see him so high up on the list! Apparently, he's a BIG Bloodborne reference, which flew over my head!
I didn't find Topoda until right before the final boss fight. And I gotta tell you. When the game plays out like that for you, this list is very different. Mantis Punch Alone was a literal game changer for how I took on the final boss. Good video. Thanks for giving this game more attention. Sadly, that means Topoda was my second to last boss fight of the game and I found his fight to be pretty lackluster. MB at not being great at remembering splitting paths to explore.
if u explore flotsam vale u will find a guy named shromp stuck in a beaker and you break him out with the mantis punch, after that he will tell you that pagarus is allergic to bananas. if you try blocking while pagarus does his grab attack he will eat just your shell, if u are wearing a banana it will take 3/4 of his health, if you have another banana on your fork you can swap it to your shell and make him eat that too, then pagarus will be dead and you will barely have to do anything
A neat bit about the Praya Dubia fight: Friendly fire is turned on. You can make Praya attack their minions, and even themselves in the second phase. A neat bit about restoring shell health: you can overheal, just a bit. Once you've unlocked it, if you have healable shell health, but your attack does enough damage that the health you would gain is bigger than whatever healable shell health you have, you heal for the damage the attack does, not just what's supposed to be healable. So if you have a shell that's really damaged that you want to keep, you can grind and heal it back to full. You take a weak attack that just barely damages your shell, then hit them with a big attack to heal more than the healable bar. Then you just repeat until either the enemy is dead or your shell's back at 100. I mostly noticed it happening with hammer attacks.
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH! Im so glad somebody appreciates topoda as much as I do I absolutely loved him- unfortunately I didn't end up wandering around to find him I actually had to go out of my way to find him after finding out you could upgrade your umami abilities.. which tbh made the fight all the better knowing he wouldnt die afterwards HAHAH
Had a crazy glitch happen when fighting topoda when he went for a slam move he somehow clipped through the floor and died I was relived but sad since I wanted to beat him with my skills but this game was something I didn’t know I needed and it was definitely a fun time all the way through. What an amazing game🙌🏾 Also being able to hook/fish enemies is so good honestly my favorite mechanic in the game such an OP move especially when paired with the Manits shrimp punch.
I also love how Groverkeeper Topoda’s flurry attack tricks you into parrying, and then the final big hit gets you anyway! It’s fun when a boss exploits YOUR movesey
love the video, loved everything about it. there just is not enough "Another Crab's Treasure" content on youtube, but your lack of parrying disturbs me. especialy with Topeda. the feeling of parying his punch flury, then having to wait for his counter punch gives me so much seratonin i cannot describe. Topeda is the pary central of the game, and if you don't know how? well, i guess you can take the cowards way and use decoys. (this is not meant to be an insult to people who are bad at parries, i just love parrying so much it feels so good, and i think everyone should try it)
here are a few things about the bosses i noted: i wasn't aware of the rubber band stowaway, so i was stuck fighting voltia without it, but i found my own workaround to her main attacks: with spearfishing, you can disconnect the appliances from her, leaving her a sitting duck for a while. pagerous the ravenous is a great fight....where i accidentally did a sequence break the developers actually planned for, believe it or not. if you manage to beat him before getting the map piece in flotsam vale, the piece you get from pagerous is the piece you would get from the mailbox. with the game making a joke about how you were too far ahead. also, i'd also call topeda my favorite fight in the game, if only for it being a challenge, but not irritating. i actually enjoyed fighting him in multiple attempts, as his telegraphs were just long enough for me to react in time, and that fakeout punch i even managed to fully parry once. my personal cheese-method for the later bosses, from petroch onwards, turned out to be using the tentacle power you get for beating the consortium, fully upgraded by topeda, combined with the battery+ stowaway, as the tentacle also can trigger the stun, and that sonofagun attacks faster than your hammer, so you can spam attack and while kril readies his swing, the tentacle is doing some work, healing you, as that's the final upgrade, and maybe even triggers the battery passive at least twice per use.
IS THAT A BONUS VIDEO???? Two videos in one day, and this one's on a brand new fabulous Souls-like on the market. Definitely one to play if you haven't already, so go beat the game, then come back & watch this video after c;
Pagurus was my pre patch General Radahn and I wasn't leaving until he was dead. The gratification of beating him, under leveled on a first run was so rewarding. And it really forged my play style for most of the rest of the game
I LOVE THE HARDENING SHELLS. Literally, i become permanently invincible ehen blocking while using that ability. Idk if it's a bug, but i love it because it makes fights so easy lol
When i first saw pagurus is just ran away but as soon as i finished the grove i EMEDIATLY went "fuck it" and tried to kill him, probably my favorite boss
Petroch is the game's mimic. :D Topoda is my favourite. :) He's the one that got me really playing with defensive options. Parrying isn't my forte, so against his big swings I'd use the backstep-counterattack combo. Turned out to work really well. When he threw his flurries at me, I just shelled up in my thimble with Fortify. On a related note, Fortify was bugged when I faced Heikea. The invulnerability did not end after three hits, allowing me to block indefinitely. I thought something was weird during the fight, but only realised what was happening when I beat him. Also, assuming a Japanese pronunciation, Heikea is probably pronounced Hey-keh-ah. With Firth, I strangely didn't have a big problem fighting him. Did it on the first try. Tactical Tentacle was my friend. :)
Fun fact: for inkerton, if you use the electric eel ability after he fires the party popper and drops it, he doesn't pick another one up. Just need okay timing.
For my gameplay experience: I went thru the game with rough start as I don’t have much experience with soulslike games but when I got into it it got pretty easy. I played with hard attack max M-sized hammer build supported by hooks. My stowaways were bonus hammer damage+, lifesteal+ and ballance damage+, hitting bosses with hammer and catching them with hooks to take down their posture as soon as possible, striking them with the hard blow from the predator tree, it made it way too easy. I only used the tentacle in few bossfights, but that’s the only umami power I actually used in fights. I defeated all the late game bosses on 1-2 tries and yeah, I expected bigger challange, but the game was fun as hell. Even tho the ending was completely random. Oh, also I used amongus shell cause the smokescreen is op as hell in this game and I really didn’t need some damaging or boosting shell. The ability to disappear and reposition against some more mobile bosses was just perfect. As for the tier list: I very much agree with Topoda being on top, that boss had an awesome design, insane voice acting and his reaction when he finds out you dont want to kill him is priceless! Him and heikea were for sure the ones who were the hardest for me. I also agree with rank 20. I love her design, I adore her voice, but that fight is easy as hell when you pick up the electric immunity. Still… that voice made my eel tingle, if you know what I mean.
I remember making a run for it towards Flotsam Vale and the moment I made it to the moon shell, I got my wits about me and I grinded out Pagarus... only to find out that I wasn't supposed to yet. It was funny dialogue, though!
topoda is a great character but he by far gave me the hardest time 😅 I kept glitching out the map and his sand storm during second phase got me numerous times lol. But felt amazing defeating him
Probably my favorite aspect of Pagurus's boss fight is that other enemies can get mixed up in the fight depending on where you are. In particular, Pagurus is able to grab other enemies and eat them, which gives a very large window to go in and deal a solid chunk of damage while he's preoccupied. The fight as a whole I feel is super fun and intense to go through, and his ability to grab enemies was an added layer that enabled me to beat him on my second try straight out of Flotsam Vale with no Adaptation upgrades. Really cool fight, easily in my top 3
One sick detail about Pagurus is that theres one of the Bobbit Worms inside his eye. During one of his frighten animations, Pagurus lifts his eyepatch snd the worm comes out roaring at you. Crazy expy
Still in the middle of my level zero playthrough and pagurus has been my favorite boss aesthetic wise. Parrying his moves is extremely satisfying. (Also I killed him early on not knowing he was meant for a bit later in the game lol).
20:20 Um ACKSHULLY that’s a flail 🤓 also that thing about Firth getting crushed, not only does he get crushed, but the thing that crushed him reads “Boot Liqueur” and Firth, was a bootlicker
Fun fact, I forget how I did it, but it’s actually possible to encounter consortium before you have the mantis shrimp ability, I ended up doing it before flotsam too so I never fought the first fight against inkerton until I had killed pagarus. That ended up being a lot more of a jumpscare since at that point I wasn’t expecting it at all lol
Inkerton is my favorite boss and character in this game, I love his design, I love his species, I love his fighting style, I love his backstory, I love that he’s this Rockefeller union buster, and to top it all off he’s voiced by my favorite VA, SeigaVA!
Leave it to this video to realize a bunch of these bosses expected me to use shell powers to gain an advantage on the boss, instead of my maneuver of throwing myself at the boss until I learned all of its attack patterns and timing and become able to survive long enough to kill them (I mean, a maxxed out skill tree half way through definitely helped) Also good list, I can't really say which boss stood out to me on top as I really enjoyed andstruggled with a lot of them, but Firth and Topeda are definitely high up
To be fair, the way that you played is how most Souls veterans would play the game. I'm just someone that likes to engage with most of a game's mechanics on a first playthrough, then go for the more challenging run on a second go around ^^
Yes, the Souls inspired combat baits a lot of people in to dodging everything, but it's actually a fairly suboptimal strategy in this game, especially if you don't change the controls so that holding dodge isn't also sprinting (the default setting adds extra input delay to the dodge, as the game has to confirm if you are holding down the button or not). If you embrace the mentality of "Right shell for the right enemy", a LOT of things in the game become very easy. The one that made me realize i was playing the entire game wrong was Voltai. First few times the boss seemed near impossible. Then i looked up the rubber band. I was then incredibly frustrated with the boss, still, as i was thinking "Why the HELL do i HAVE to get this hard to reach item, to even be able to fight this boss??!?!?". Until i realized the fairly obvious: I just had to use the Rubber Duck shell. That was it, now every time i blocked, she did nothing to me.
My list is nearly the same except for Camstcha, that was one of my favs for sure, I love the change in tone between the two phases. At first he can barely move and gives the feeling that you're just putting this old legendary figure out of his misery, but then he does *that* thing and starts crawling, jumping, slamming, and even hissing(?) all over the place in crazy and unsettling ways. Phase 1 makes me say: , phase 2 makes me say: . Topoda at the top is based though, he deserves it
The chop stick boss definitely felt like the genichiro of this game for me until my friend played it and beat him on his first try 😅 the lobster was pretty sick too
Also, if you wear a banana peel as a shield and get grabbed so Pagurus tries to eat you, he’ll eat the banana and lose about 3/4 of his health in one go. There’s an NPC that will tell you Pagurus is allergic to bananas (but only if you find the NPC before beating Pagurus).
Playing through the game at level 0 made me realize how incredible of a boss Camstcha is. Most of the late game bosses suffer from the fact that you're just SO powerful by that point in the game, but without that strength Camstcha not only poses a fun challenge, but is also an insanely fun boss both gameplay and design wise.
I wonder, once the patches come out, if any new bosses will come out. EX fights would be lovely, especially for Voltai, but what new creatures could be used. One of the things I loved was the general avoidance of a shark as a fight, so what next. An Angler fish that uses status effects like fear or even an opposite to attract you close, an octopus that uses several tools unlike Inkerton only using two, a Pom pom crab that cheers on its minions while wielding gunk filled anemones, the possibilities are endless
Had to skip over half the ranking because I only just killed The Consortium. I am so happy you put Topoda at the top. He was such a fun fight and one of the harder ones for me for sure. I explored the rest of the Grove immediately after killing Heikea in the playthrough I'm doing and his fight and the exploration of the Curdled village was a prime example of what I love from Soulslikes. Clever exploration leads to amazing rewards. Culminating in one of the most intense and exhilerating fights so far. And just like with the Duchess, a fantastic performance from the actor. He can spit on my corpse any day. ;)
I found that the games recommended way of fighting roland was pretty fun if you put sinker stowaways on. Then you can use the pinball mechanic to very quickly and easily do posture damagesl to him.
14:40 there is actually another way that this boss could've been dealt with much easier with the Ring-A-Ding ability of the Champagne Flute you could just continuously stun and hit him to get the umami charge back. (It has since been patched since but that is something you could've done before the patch)
In the Praya Dubia second fight, you can also exploit the friendly fire of their attacks to deal extra damage to the boss the same way those same attacks can deal damage to the crab enemies in the first phase. You need to stay close to the boss constantly tho so it's very "high risk, high reward".
Ah, fascinating. So speedrunners who want to end the fight quicker will likely want to stick close to the boss to get that extra damage in. Nice bit of tech, that.
I was a lil nervous to fight pagarus for his grab alone but wen the prawn in flotsam hilariously told he was allergic to naners my confidence sky rocketed
What struck me about Patroch is that the shell was already there. usually you find a current and have to activate it to spawn the shell. Also when playing I completely forgot what my mission was and ended up going to Topoda right after finishing the grove which was a really hard fight. That entire area probably had me dying more than any other.
I beat Pagurus after getting the map piece in the Expired Grove and found him easier than Heikea, who took me around 20 attempts. Pagurus, however, took me only around 5 attempts. There's even a special interaction if you bring the map piece Pagurus drops to the museum curator.
Firth was extremely disappointing for me when I fought him, I had a maxed damage stat, fork, and bobbit trap so I just used 2 bobbit traps per phase and never got below half health, fought him twice in a row without even coming close to dying
Great watch and certainly an interesting ranking. Shows how much playstyle can affect ones impression of the bosses. I for myself am a more thorough gamer, meaning I usually try to get all the goodies there are, without looking them up on some walkthrough before completing the main quest. So usually I get like 95% of the stuff and might be a bit stronger. So Pagurus for example would be a boss I'd rank quite a bit lower, since you are even supposed to fight him after Flotsam Vale, but I beat the poor fella on my first try right after finishing the grove. And considering he was supposed to be such a menace and generally cool in concept, he just disappointed me in terms of difficulty. Roland and Camtscha on the other hand, I'd absolutely rank in the top 3 since even when you got a good build going, they have some attacks in their arsenal to still be challenging.
i really hope they bring a 2nd out or awesome dlcs for this because this was fun and very entertaining while being a little difficult! i loved it so damn much
2 things, 1. I loved this game as this was me second ever souls like and it’s a great game for beginners and I loved the music and the fighting 2. Lies of P is one of my favorite games and when you played feel it made me sad as it’s one of my favorite songs of any ost
i actually had such a weirdly hard time with the diseased lichenthrope that i deliberately sort of bugged my way out of fighting him. i'm not sure if he is truly optional but i went around him in such a radius that when i accidentally activated him, i was outside the boss force field thing that keeps you in the area lol. i got to swim to the other side while watching him try to come after me and getting stuck on the force field wall, it was pretty funny. then i came back later and obliterated him
Sadly I agree with Voltai’s fight being ranked last. I didn’t even know she had a last phase with poison because I killed her during the toast phase. A disappointing boss do nerf rubber band Nephro: I don’t play many souls likes and would say I’m not crazy good but my god I fucking loved nephros grab attack, I decided to forgo any other stats for pure strength so it was a one shot move on my minimal health bar and I loved the challenge. Running as a glass cannon it felt like most fights had to be done perfectly with no room for flubbing cause every grab attack and most others were one shot moves. I recommend this for those who want a challenge and are patient. Ceviche: first try but a fun little boss fight to end off the unique dungeon. Camstcha: OH MY GOD! This has to be my favorite fight. I used like no adaptations or abilities so it was just a brawl. Took me almost an hour to beat him, first attempt I almost killed him and died to his grab. Then spent 40 minutes struggling. Best 40 minutes of the game thus far. And the last 20 minutes was just improvement on my playstyle and I felt so good when I finally took him down. Roland: Trash boss in my opinion, boring fight for me, had zero interesting movement in my play through and was looking forward to a unique pinball related fight. Killed him in like three charged attacks. No death, probably 2nd worst fight for me. Shellspliter: I insisted upon beating this boss when I started the game. Loved the fight amazing grab attack and a nice half-hour of attempts leaving me with a good knowledge of the controls. Magista: totally didn’t expect to fight her, and was shocked at the fall of slacktide and the gunk. It gave me the impression of what the story was about and a great impression of the game to come. Took me a nice 4-5 attempts and was a pretty fun fight. Sadly didn’t see a lot of her attacks from quick deaths on first fights and then after getting used to it I pretty quickly smashed her. Oceans agony: mmmm kinda mid, awesome story based boss. I loved the theme, design and all that. But the actual fight was kinda boring. 2 attempts, I instantly end phase one and two with my current 105 stat strength. And I shielded the last part and it killed itself cause ya know my res stat was pumped too. I enjoyed the story and lore but the fight itself was mid. Pagurus: I was very stubborn at the time and wanted him dead. Such a fun fight, absolutely a horrifying boss fight. Took me almost 2 hours to kill him. I assumed the same that he wasn’t meant to be fought. But I’m so glad I did. Heikiea: YES! An amazing fight, a slow methodical fight which challenged and pushed me. It took maybe 20-30 minutes and I felt like I learned the fight really well by the end of it. Loved this fight, and when I got to halfway through his healthbar I did not expect him to start dual wielding. Awesome fight one of the best. Petroch: by this point in the game I was just too strong for such a weak boss, surprising and cool ideas, but eh it was alright. Inkerton: sick idea for a fight. Took 2 attempts though. Also I clipped out of the barrier and just kinda left. Only came back later cause I learned he dropped a stainless relic. Firth: really cool first boss and I love the story part of it. Spoke to the message of the story of people trying to do good and screwing people over. Boss was good, not exceptional and super laggy for my weak laptop. But much like many other bosses he stood no chance. First try with the dark souls helmet shell and I say again 105 strength!! But a good boss nonetheless. Groverkeeper Topeda: I loved the build up to this fight. A really cool boss at the end of a full exploration of a level. But… I don’t know he felt a little too easy. Given I ignored the shell abilities for my first playthrough he felt kinda boring. I wanted him to be a little more relentless, hit harder. And maybe have a one shot move. After my first attempt losing I expected him to be really hard but he only took one more attempt after that. I just felt like I wanted more from him. All these criticisms is not to say I didn’t love the game, I just didn’t challenge myself enough. These bosses largely are unique and super fun.
The ceviche sisters were so easy. I stayed at a distance and they kept using their regular bullet attacks. Which you are able to parry back at them. Very easy to cheese.
I think they should add a boss rush mode where krill is in the middle of an cardboard box as a dj plays every boss track corresponding to the boss you are facing
I tried to fight Pagurus right away, after abou1 hour of trying I did some exploration running away from him and found that nice sand worm ability, that i immediatly used to slay him - great time! sadly after that I felt pretty overpowered against the next bosses like Heikea
You can actually cheese Pagurus by walking to the edge of the map if you take a left right outside of the safety and just continue to lure him off the edge and it’ll insta kill
I loved Pagarus fight, I actually killed him before i got the first map piece and Konche actually acknowledges that and says Thats not where i told you to go child
The banana thing for pagarus is real, theres an npc in flotsam you can save from a bottle that tells you about it I used this info to beat pagarus before doing pretty much anything in flotsam because it deals like 70% of his hp
so im actually on the final boss right now and i think i did a really good job exploring and leveling up but i guess not because every boss has been a significant challenge for me. I think I like it quite a bit this way.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up the hook ability at all in your video, it's really powerful! And there's actually a fun thing with Heikea, you can't actually use the hook whenever you want in that fight, it specifically becomes available with his back turned to you. Meaning you can interrupt the fright inflicting attack! Personally I would not rank Topoda so highly, the fact that you can't damage him during his swirly punchy phase even if you can hit him is just not something I can overlook.
Honestly, it´s because I never really used it all that much in boss fights until the end of the game. It´s exceptionally powerful, but when certain abilities feel like they break boss difficulty, I try to steer clear of them ^^

OMG You literally nailed the character, congrats, I loved the fight and the voice acting made it all the more memorable
Thanks for killing it❤
Your VA is awesome!
i hated fighting your boss
Fun fact, Pagarus is allergic to bananas... An NPC tells you this in the area before you have to face him. And if you use the banana peel and let it get caught in his grab, you lose your banana peel but Pagarus loses half his life bar hahaha
I did bring it up briefly in his entry - I just never tested the theory out myself ^^
You can also lead him toward a bobbit worm, which will eat him
Never mind it got patched
oh yeah. i just shot him in the head.
Ah, so he's a little bit fruity by genetics, love that for him!

Inkerton is a heavy bloodborne reference and I like it! The shell cracker is the trick weappn that hunters use, especially with the gun .
No wonder I enjoyed his fight so much - He definitely fits the aggressive, high damage, yet surprisingly squishy nature of Bloodborne's hunters.
think its a gehrman reference
I loved inkerton for this reason
I think inkerton is more funny of bloodborne reference if you consider the good ending of bloodborne which the hunter becomes an old one… a magic squid..
His "head" has a frill on it that looks like the Hunter's Hat as well. Such wonderful little details.
Aha, I fell for the oldest trick in the book. Thinking Shrimps & Prawns were the same species - A marine biologist, I am not lmao
@@BillySYTbro it literally says ceviche
I actually beat Pagurus before even going into flotsam vale, got some unique dialogue from it!
" it appears you must defeat the crab in the sands between "
"oh yeah thats what I just did"
same lol. I was having trouble getting past him, so I just decided to beat him with the crappy gear I had at the time
@SpriteDoge I was just a idiot who looked at every pipe except the one to flotsam
@@SpriteDoge same here lol
Same I found out only two bananas is what it takes to the defeat him one banana knocks down 70% of his health
I was personally hoping for a spearing mantis shrimp to go along with the puncher and they could be connected in teaching the player umami stuff, similar to the brothers in hollow knight if you ever played that
I feel so validated by Topada's placement. I love him and his fight so so much.
One of the best characters in the game, I wish him only the best.
@Xcross15 I never used parry. I just face tanked for the whole game

A fun thing I learned today about the Shellsplitter is when he does his slam the bike rake in front of him move if you stand in the right spot you can actually just stand in the gap of his weapon and be fine.

Pure Buster Keaton energy that
As someone who fought pagurus the ravenous before even entering the expired grove. I loved it! I died so many times but it was worth it. I also got extra dialogue for getting the 3rd treasure map early. It was amazing.
I accidentally lured him off a cliff while running away. Easy 20k microplastics that instantly went into upgrading my self
From what I know, the devs have planned a Roadmap, but they want to focus on fixing up major bugs before they settle on adding new content ^^
another cool thing about Pagurus is that his name comes from his species scientific classification, cancer pagurus. he also has a bobbit worm beneath the eyepatch that comes out after he reaches below half health which i feel like is either parasitic as the bobbit demands sustenance, or symbiotic as the bobbit benefits from his endless hunger
i might have accidentally killed pagarus when i first entered the sands between...
also those spike balls firth uses is actually an adaptation too.
Yeah, I didn't unlock that adaption until after I beat the game. I stoppes bothering the sea urchin like two times before he would have given it to me
I didn’t do it at first but on my way to Flotsam when they were like uh oh you just gotta run for it now, I was like fuck it come at me 😂 and then I was like oop I got a map piece 👀 I think I wasn’t supposed to do that 🤣
Same...
I accidentally killed firth on my first try (dark souls helmet hammer + consortium adaptation) so that spiked ball was practically all I ever saw
UA-cam is like that. Be sure to subscribe so you can always check your subscriptions ^^
For Voltai you could unplug the appliances with the spear fishing ability
U learn sum new abt this game everyday. Like two days ago I just found out u could spearfish some X spots and I ale finished the gsmr
I figured this out myself mid-fight and it was such a cool detail. I also love the variety of the gimmick. The fight might have flowed better if they made her switch devices at each quarter of her health.
Every time I tried that I glitched out of the map which ended being how I killed her disappointingly enough
Volti was so annoying I pulled out the gun.
Surprised Roland got so low. He was entertaining for me, because I've used Coconut all game.
Have screamed "auto bots roll out" for the last 10 hours
I found the Roland fight to be very janky and I could never figure out how to deal with his spazz out limb attack.
Pagarus cheese recipe.
Step 1: Get hammered.
Step 2: Wear Banana.
Step 3: Hammer Banana.
Step 4: Sekrilo - Crabs Die Twice.
Watching this and seeing your strategies and guides makes me realize I brute forced my way through the game and did know a lot of basic information 😅
if u explore flotsam vale u will find a guy named shromp stuck in a beaker and you break him out with the mantis punch, after that he will tell you that pagarus is allergic to bananas. if you try blocking while pagarus does his grab attack he will eat just your shell, if u are wearing a banana it will take 3/4 of his health, if you have another banana on your fork you can swap it to your shell and make him eat that too, then pagarus will be dead and you will barely have to do anything
What an amazing game🙌🏾
Also being able to hook/fish enemies is so good honestly my favorite mechanic in the game such an OP move especially when paired with the Manits shrimp punch.
I don’t know if I got that one, but I did get grabbed by magista several times and then she kept spinning around until I restarted the game 😂
(this is not meant to be an insult to people who are bad at parries, i just love parrying so much it feels so good, and i think everyone should try it)
The consortium gives Splatoon vibes
here are a few things about the bosses i noted:
i wasn't aware of the rubber band stowaway, so i was stuck fighting voltia without it, but i found my own workaround to her main attacks: with spearfishing, you can disconnect the appliances from her, leaving her a sitting duck for a while.
pagerous the ravenous is a great fight....where i accidentally did a sequence break the developers actually planned for, believe it or not. if you manage to beat him before getting the map piece in flotsam vale, the piece you get from pagerous is the piece you would get from the mailbox. with the game making a joke about how you were too far ahead.
also, i'd also call topeda my favorite fight in the game, if only for it being a challenge, but not irritating. i actually enjoyed fighting him in multiple attempts, as his telegraphs were just long enough for me to react in time, and that fakeout punch i even managed to fully parry once.
my personal cheese-method for the later bosses, from petroch onwards, turned out to be using the tentacle power you get for beating the consortium, fully upgraded by topeda, combined with the battery+ stowaway, as the tentacle also can trigger the stun, and that sonofagun attacks faster than your hammer, so you can spam attack and while kril readies his swing, the tentacle is doing some work, healing you, as that's the final upgrade, and maybe even triggers the battery passive at least twice per use.
IS THAT A BONUS VIDEO???? Two videos in one day, and this one's on a brand new fabulous Souls-like on the market. Definitely one to play if you haven't already, so go beat the game, then come back & watch this video after c;
Topoda is my favourite.
As for the tier list:
I very much agree with Topoda being on top, that boss had an awesome design, insane voice acting and his reaction when he finds out you dont want to kill him is priceless!
Really cool fight, easily in my top 3
i love nephro, im at the flotsam battle right now but him randomly popping up when i had nothing and saying some pretty cool lines was a nice suprise.
One sick detail about Pagurus is that theres one of the Bobbit Worms inside his eye. During one of his frighten animations, Pagurus lifts his eyepatch snd the worm comes out roaring at you. Crazy expy
Hell yeah! So stoked for this!
Leave it to this video to realize a bunch of these bosses expected me to use shell powers to gain an advantage on the boss, instead of my maneuver of throwing myself at the boss until I learned all of its attack patterns and timing and become able to survive long enough to kill them
(I mean, a maxxed out skill tree half way through definitely helped)
Also good list, I can't really say which boss stood out to me on top as I really enjoyed andstruggled with a lot of them, but Firth and Topeda are definitely high up
To be fair, the way that you played is how most Souls veterans would play the game.
Topoda at the top is based though, he deserves it
The chop stick boss definitely felt like the genichiro of this game for me until my friend played it and beat him on his first try 😅 the lobster was pretty sick too
Chop Stick Boss really felt like a wall to overcome, yeah. A massive step up in difficulty for that point as brute force just wasn't an option.
Papyrus the Ravenous doesn't actually have to be fought to be killed, you can have Pap grabbed by a bobbit worm.
When I fought heikea I had bought the imposter shell from carcinea and the smokescreen ability just broke the boss. He never targeted me once.
While my partner was fighting Pagurus, he accidentally tripped a sand worm and it ate Pagurus. Boss fight was over too soon
Dang, didn't know Pagurus could be eaten by the sand worms. You'd think he was the master of the worms himself given how feared he was.
27:00 not only that but each peel deals over half his health.
He can spit on my corpse any day. ;)
My Top Three ended up being mostly similar
3. Topoda
2. Camtscha
1.Inkerton
I found that the games recommended way of fighting roland was pretty fun if you put sinker stowaways on. Then you can use the pinball mechanic to very quickly and easily do posture damagesl to him.
You GOTTA talk about how inkerton is a bloodborne reference. He literally uses the tool as the axe from bloodborne AND he has a gun. Its so damn cool.
Voltaic actually has a fourth weapon that creates shockwaves. And you can unplug the weapons, wich adds a bit of variety to the fight.
Love ranking vids for smaller games this was excellently made thank you!
I like to cover smaller games when I can ^^
i really hope they bring a 2nd out or awesome dlcs for this because this was fun and very entertaining while being a little difficult! i loved it so damn much
2 things, 1.
A disappointing boss do nerf rubber band
Nephro: I don’t play many souls likes and would say I’m not crazy good but my god I fucking loved nephros grab attack, I decided to forgo any other stats for pure strength so it was a one shot move on my minimal health bar and I loved the challenge.
This looks sick, I saw it on gamepass and now I want to play it
If you've got Game Pass, you've got nothing to lose. Definitely give it a go if you can.
Also with the Eel fight there is an item in the same area that let's you ignore
Electric damage entirely. Makes the fight feel trivial
I mentioned it during the entry - the rubberband ^^
27:16 You can also feed pagurus to the worms in the area, Killing him instantly,
The eater has become the eaten.
you can unplug the eel’s appliances with the hook btw so that makes it even easier
My ranking:

19. The Ceviche Sisters
I think they should add a boss rush mode where krill is in the middle of an cardboard box as a dj plays every boss track corresponding to the boss you are facing
Topoda is the best simply because he gives us mantis punch that when upgraded shreds through bosses like butter.
I tried to fight Pagurus right away, after abou1 hour of trying I did some exploration running away from him and found that nice sand worm ability, that i immediatly used to slay him - great time! sadly after that I felt pretty overpowered against the next bosses like Heikea
i fought Pagurus before Flotsam because i saw the map in his claw and got unique dialogue from the museum owner for doing things out of order
I beat the C.C.C. By getting him to like half health and just let my chum stowaway finish the fight
The banana thing for pagarus is real, theres an npc in flotsam you can save from a bottle that tells you about it
I used this info to beat pagarus before doing pretty much anything in flotsam because it deals like 70% of his hp
Honestly, I forgot the dude in the bottle existed, because I went to Flotsam before I got the Mantis Punch.
God I played this on switch and loved it but it looks so much better on ps5 I might have to buy it again…
Yep, close-ups on objects during cutscenes are pretty embarassing...
so im actually on the final boss right now and i think i did a really good job exploring and leveling up but i guess not because every boss has been a significant challenge for me. I think I like it quite a bit this way.
topoda and helkea were my top 1 and 2, some seriously fun boss fights
