I’m glad you mentioned about boiling the stems of daffodils and caring for them for vase life. I love seeing the daffodils in the spring, winters in north Idaho are long , like yours.

Shelly those daffodills are gigantic ! I agree with you this is a wonderful time of year, after a grey and dreary winter. It is amazing how mother nature comes back to life !! It will be ajoy to see the beautiful flower beds in all their glory this summer !! I can only imagine how busy you are between your clients, the farm, your own yard and your home and family !!! Good to see your hubby and son cleaning up some of the beds . God Bless you and yours.

Oh the joy of gardening with animals! Deer, bears, rabbits and dogs. I don't have a deer or bear problem but I do have pesky rabbits and a dog. Bonny

Love my Daffodils. I was afraid all the wet weather had made the bulbs rot but they are coming back. Bryan asking great questions as usual. Great for beginner gardeners

I thought the same for my bulbs at the farm because the tulips were ahead of the daffodils... but oddly the daffodils are blooming first like they should... nature is funny sometimes!

Put a fishing string about 2 1/2 foot up from the ground around your flowerbeds. They say the deer will not cross it. Just a thought.

I tied fishing string about 4 to 5 feet off the ground to prevent deer from dining in my gardens. I have a 24" wire fence around yard peremeter which deer just step over, but works pretty well for rabbits. I know the deer approached it and tried to enter last year because the line was broken. I put it back up and never had a problem since.

Beautiful daffodils! Looks like Dutch Master and Ice Follies. Both naturalize well. They will multiply and grow back every year. I use the hot water treatment for dahlias but not for daffodils. For dahlias put the cut flowers in 160-180 degree water for about 1 hour or until cooled. The hot water treatment will set the blooms and help the dahlias last 4-6 days or more. Put a CVBN tab in the container with the daffodils. It kills the bacteria that is the result of the stems dumping bacteria into the water. This will help the stems last longer in the vase.

Ice Follies!!!! That is DEFINITELY the variety of white ones --- Thank you!! And yes, I have the CVBN tabs but didnt think to use for daffodils....thanks!

Shelley do you do cool flowers? I would love to see a video on when you start them and when you plant them out. I started snapdragons, nigella, stock etc but I’m still afraid to plant them outside. I’m in zone 4b.

My snaps are in!! Theyve been in for about 2-3 weeks now... frosts and all! They are doing great... let me see if i can get a video filmed! They love to establish in the cold so ive had them in as early as April 1! Just make sure they are hardened off prior to planting.

I can relate to the animal frustration when it comes to gardening. I have geese, ducks, and chickens. They want to eat everything or scratch everything up. Grrr...

To deter the bear, try Pine Sol on your garbage cans as they don't like the smell.
