I read Peppa pig as Peppega pig. ;-; this shows me how much i have been on twitch to misread it as a twitch emote. either don't mind me just had to get this of my head.
I love how in Wlops art when looking at jewelry or shiny things from a distance it looks so convincing and perfect but when you zoom in it’s really just a bunch of clumpy colorful nonsense. I love his art soooo much
3:40 still makes me crazy how WLOP renders only necessary things and keeps everything else simple. Like there you have a really beautifully shaded, detailed face and 500 pixels to the left you got 4 big chunks of paint just... there. And it works. THIS is what makes me wanna learn from him so bad
I think what he makes use of, is that our vision is split into the one spot of high resolution and the rest is low resolution. So as long as our view is guided directly to his most resolution spot, the rest just has to be accurate in terms of color, value and light. Well "just" its ofc not that easy.
Over the years I got to a mindset where I'm finally, FINALLY not jealous or disheartened by such extraordinary artists and their art. On the contrary, I can admire them and look up to them whithout feeling small or intimidated. 💜💜💜 Everyone has got their own style, everyone is constantly growing and improving and that counts for me as well. So, I can truly genuinely enjoy such videos. 💜
honestly WLOP is just drawing the most beauftiful women one can imagine! this coupled with his style makes him one of my favourite artists of all time.
Something else to add to the piece at 8:30... I love how the composition shows competing screen spaces. The man pulled screen left attracted to something calling to him, while the woman tries to abandon her side of the screen to follow him. The composition adds so much to the storytelling.
Sam: "and why is that all there? I want you guys to guess." Me: "The light is reflecting off the hair." Sam: "3, 2, 1...no you didn't guess it." Me: 👁👄👁 (Awesome video BTW, very informative!)
WLOP's artwork is so beautiful. Ever since I have watched him I started to do some sketching, it was pretty slugish and a bit ugly but times goes by i got better with it. And this video really helped on how the smallest details can actually help your art give life no matter how small that detail is.
I can't thank Wlop enough for sharing his knowledge. It is thanks to him and only him that I was able to start drawing despite my handicap. I study Wlop's classes thoroughly, and the reflection of light, or rather ambient light, is really one of the crucial points I've learned from studying his tutorials and works. Which you actually reveal in this video (so I didn't learn something, but I'm sure it will help a lot of artist, thank you !). It's also what I'm starting to use little by little, even if I don't master it like him. I even start to observe the world around me and how the lights reflect on the skin of a person I am talking to. I was so surprised once to see blue & orange reflections on my mother's skin because of the orange blind outside and the blue sky. I have progressed tremendously in less than 2 years. But I practiced, got frustrated, made mistakes, started over... Never give up, that's the key. You can also observe the work of Nixeu, who studied Wlop's courses as well. He does beautiful things.
I think he does very detailed/realistic rendering on the character especially the face, and very little rendering on everything else. That's what gives it the unique WLOP look. It's amazing how real the metal stuff looks in his paintings and then you zoom in and it's like 2 brush strokes!
Bounce light is something lots of people aren't aware of but always makes artwork stand out as more realistic. Nice call out. Rule of thirds is fantastic, don't even know why the brain looks to those spots first but yes! The images you've showed also pull the attention of the viewer into those points and within the centre of the image which will keep the eyes on the image. You can see it more clearly when looking at a comparison, if you look at some childrens books, when you're chasing the character from the left side of the two pages to the right, turn the page and character is on the left again. It's set up to draw your eyes from one side to the next as a flow.
WLOP is legit the artist that inspired me to pick up the pen and get back to drawing after 15ish years of not drawing at all. I honestly dont remember ever being inspired by some art in my life until then. Its so flowy, free and loose yet at the same time detailed and precise, its really incredible, especially for me who is quite restricted, overly analytical and stiff while drawing and often am even afraid to practice drawing bigger because it feels like I am wasting paper with crap. Oh, the joys of learning to draw...
Practicing is one thing ... Second thing is "take your time". No great picture is just slapped on the canvas .. maybe you can do that when just painting a face . But a whole scenery with hero characters, lively scenery, perspective world etc. Takes a lot of time to plan and finish/render
I don't think many people are actually in the art game to be _better_ than anyone else, we just want to be good enough for ourselves (or as good as our inspirations). Even if you're right and no one would truly be an "art god" anymore, would that really matter? edit: yes i realize now that this is a reference lol
Great video, was very insightful! i do think there may be more to it than just practice though. Another WLOP secret is that he renders parts of his scene in blender to get accurate reflection, perspective, and light before he draws. Super clever technique that gives art a godly level of detail
Hey, this is a great video! But there’s a specific reason WLOP’s work looks unique. And that’s his inherent push to contrast colors using gray. The reason his colors pop the way they do is because he uses gray to set the stage for color harmony and he keeps a very tight leash on it throughout his paintings. I would say what you said in this video is definitely things that every pro uses, but what makes WLOP stand out is his exaggeration of contrast using greys
i though he was WLOP. i've been admiring wlop's work for years. i dont who he or she is. but that person makes art that touches and brain. u know that an art is really good if u can get me to stare at it and feel lost in the art itself. amazing person
You are by far my favorite Artist to learn anything art related, first off, your voice is very calming. It's very easy to listen to you. Second, this video made me so happy, because WLOP is to me mind blowing and you took out the picture of the Boeing that WLOP has drawn, one of my favorites as well! Please keep posting videos like this, thank you Sam.
What I noticed from looking at the painting at 4:46 is that the background and the jewelry are not so detailed and basically splotches but the girl's face, hair, hands, legs, and feet are super detailed. I'm starting to think it's best to post art when you've found your art style and know how to use it well whether it be digital or hand-drawn. If you don't have that it's hard to convey the art you want or to even find an audience. Being an artist myself I've learned that you have to constantly draw and make multiple mistakes to improve. And that will take 10 years + since it's an ever-going process. Nice video.
your art style inspired me soooo much, it's been one week since i know you, I mean i saw your oc's before but didn't know that you had a youtube chanel, and you make me redraw i genuenly thank you (sorry if my english isn't correct i'm french)

YES, I started a graphic novel because of WLOP. I love his eye for simplicity in details. It’s so hard to let go and not get hung up on perfect things.

First video I've now watched on your channel and the message of practice in this video is so great. It is such a simple thing but also so uplifting to know that your level of art or anything else is so often not held back by something like genetics, but rather the occasional doubt in your own potential and abilities. Great video with both good tips and an important reminder!
whoa glad i took alot of photography classes in the passed since lighting is a big deal and so cool that for artist this is huge and making your art much more dynamic !
AAAAA as soon as when Sam mentioned the Rule of Thirds I died and was like "YES I AM AN ART GOD!!" Cause I learned that from cinematography and decided to incorporate that into my static work and WOW! Just makes it so much better tbh :))))
Hey man, keep coming across your work on Lofi vidoes. Cant tell you enough how much i love your art style, very inspired by the way you draw characters and will be practicing allot more because of you. thanks friend.
wow thank you because I always look at his art and it always blows my mind no matter how many times I see and analyse it !!! BTW i love your art as well especially the lighting in few pieces its just so gooddd !!!
I am super thankful for this video, it identified the key reason I wasn’t able to achieve the look I wanted with my art. It gave me some direction so that I knew WHAT to practice. I am glad to say I have. Realising that I needed to turn on ray tracing in my head was the first key step, so thank you!
Very Imp: I think one of very important Wlops secret is that he takes his own references. You would never find his references in public/social media. And that adds a different level of originality to his pieces. Genius
This could be a mini series where you’d break down observed techniques of your favorite artists. It will be a great exercise for us to develop that type of thinking when we observe art in museums or instagram 😅 this was very helpful!
Thanks. I'm a fans of Wlop and I love his painting. Always I just think " oh, this work is pretty good" but never consider what make it so. After all, I don't know how to drawing.
I think that the rule of thirds is something that might come naturally without even knowing about it. I like to take pictures with my camera when I travel and before I went to art school i already followed that rule without even knowing it. I think it just comes with experience plus a sense of aesthetics that actually can't be really learned but is a talent. You can learn the rule, but you can't learn to sense what actually looks good and I have proved that so many times when other people took pictures and I was like "what is this?" XD No, indeed, not everybody is a photographer, since technical knowledge is just not enough for good pictures. That's something an experienced friend told me who studied photography. I am just an amateur.
Looking for this comment so I don't repeat it. I understand why he saw that, but if anyone knows the artist and the character, it is easy to recognize the blue and orange on the dress. Thank you, I'm glad I'm not crazy.
I honestly learned so much. I think it would be a good thing to plan some of those things beforehand. Like, write down which things are reflective etc. Thanks for teaching us this lesson :)
At age 60 my chances of becoming an art god are nonexistent. (Arthritis is a bitch) But you did show the greatness in WLOP and other art gods so I can appreciate their work even more. Thank you!
I know a lot of people who say WLOP is overrated, and i say only one thing to them that is to just look how many artist or people in general he has influenced that's what art is. If you inspired others and they connected with your work then your job is done I doesn't matter if it was like super refined or Super textured or maybe a simple line art, As long as people connect and appreciate your work that's all that matters but also know working in industry is different and yes what i said goes for Guweiz as well.
I remember seeing Wang Ling reply to a comment on one of his videos where the commenter was praising his work, saying how every stroke adds to the masterpiece. His response was along the lines of, “I know it looks like I know what I’m doing when it’s sped up, but there’s a hundred times on any piece I think maybe it’s so bad I should give up.” (Not an exact quote, but the gist.) I really appreciated the humility and honesty in that statement. It’s not always easy to make something beautiful, even when someone appears to do it effortlessly, but it’s so worth the hard work. Side note: 4:25 The “sun strokes” are actually the pattern of Aeolian’s “butterfly” skirt if you compare it to other images of this character. The skirt seems to have a bit of glow to it, so the bounce light still makes sense.
The thing that bakes my noodle over imagined realism, and rendering light effects, is how specific an artiste’s ref might be, versus how much of that mental physics engine they’re running
i love how he makes certain parts sorta blurred as well so ur eye focuses on what he wants you to focus also anyone else keep on rewatching sams videos cos they wanna absorb as much information as possible 😂

Hiiii Sam!! I love you and your videos so much! You're an incredible artist and I take a lot of inspiration from you!
Sidenote, your light and airy humor makes the learning more enjoyable. Thanks! 🤗
wlop is one of the first artists i know, and the arts are amazing!!
I don't think I've heard anyone explain composition as well and as simply as you did. And I can't thank you enough for it.
wow thank you because I always look at his art and it always blows my mind no matter how many times I see and analyse it !!! BTW i love your art as well especially the lighting in few pieces its just so gooddd !!!
Those are from WLOP (in this video)
@@sohankaushik7 yaya I know
Time to appreciate the editing, this video is actually really entertaining while being informative
"im taking a plate out of ethan becker's book here" 😂☠️
I am super thankful for this video, it identified the key reason I wasn’t able to achieve the look I wanted with my art. It gave me some direction so that I knew WHAT to practice.
I am glad to say I have. Realising that I needed to turn on ray tracing in my head was the first key step, so thank you!
Sam's videos truly have relaxing asmr vibe
Sees thumbnail with sam’s face and wlop work
Me : SCREAMS INTERNALLY BEING A BIG FAN OF BOTH
Very Imp: I think one of very important Wlops secret is that he takes his own references. You would never find his references in public/social media. And that adds a different level of originality to his pieces. Genius
"Lots of practice."
My anxiety:
My time: "How 'bout *n o ."*
Sams videos are so easy to watch. He’s genuinely very informative and calming while still being very entertaining :3
Thank you, Sam!
The Tittle blew me away.
The thumbnail blew me away.
The intro blew me away.
My God, I'm dead.
I usually don't look through all these kinds of videos, but watching this makes me want to draw. He really inspired me to draw more ❤
I think that the rule of thirds is something that might come naturally without even knowing about it.
The attention to detail is amazing. It really is the little things.
4:30 is actually her butterfly dress and not the lighting. His character wears a black dress with orange and blue neon butterfly 'wings'.
Edit: I was wrong ignore this comment ;-;
@@imtired6614 No, It is really the dress. Sam thinks that it's the sunlight but it is not. The dress has the pattern of a butterfly wings.
@@imtired6614 4:20 better timestamp, this orange is indeed part of her dress design
@@blucia_ ahhh I see what you’re saying now thank you
Looking for this comment so I don't repeat it. I understand why he saw that, but if anyone knows the artist and the character, it is easy to recognize the blue and orange on the dress. Thank you, I'm glad I'm not crazy.
Oh god, I loved this kind of video! I think it's one of a kind! Never seen it done on UA-cam before! Congrats Sam!
Thank you Sam, I have ascended to an art god because of you
I honestly learned so much.
Thank you!
His voice is so soothing, all my stress went away from just listening to this vid for a few minutes
"What that is reflection of light - omg stop messaging me" lmaoo
This is the first time I clicked on a video for the answer to its title and the answer was given immediately. Thank you.
Instructions unclear, who's is the art God of this subject, Sam or wlop??
Both. Both is good.
Wlop is better at rendering and setting up scenes but Sam is better at stylisation and making expressive memorable art (at least in my opinion haha)
The thing that bakes my noodle over imagined realism, and rendering light effects, is how specific an artiste’s ref might be, versus how much of that mental physics engine they’re running
I'm beginning to feel like an Art God, Art God.
All my people tryna copy my Draft Doc, Draft Doc.
i love how he makes certain parts sorta blurred as well so ur eye focuses on what he wants you to focus
also anyone else keep on rewatching sams videos cos they wanna absorb as much information as possible 😂
IDK man you might wanna get ur eyes checked
“Here’s how to become an art god”
Omg time to take some notes 🗿🗿
