Always a good day when there’s a new Ayonic video. The stuttering frame rate and mobs having a stupid amount of AC were a massive turnoff to this expansion for me. My poor Pent-ato II just couldn’t hang.
One thing to note for rangers. If your planning on gaining the haste effect from a quiver. You'll want a 2nd arrow to stick in there. Then your bow will benefit from quiver haste.
Ayonic aka Ion Blaze. I have been loving your videos and I haven't played since way back in like early 2000s. I want you to know that I went out and purchased a laptop today just to play old EQ again. Thank you for championing this old game. If you are still playing I would love to play where you are now so that I might eventually be lucky enough to group with you once in awhile. Thanks again for the amazing videos.
Also worth noting that Luclin has a great soundtrack-a lot of spacey, synth tracks. Of course, no one heard them back in the day, since they were hidden in-game until 2016!
Ahh yes, this is where I am at. Outside of the moon and cats - the mounts. Don't get me wrong when it was released back in the day I was like "wow." but now, I am like damn.
Never understood that point of view, half the classes didn't even feel like classes unto themselves until after Luclin/Pop. I played from Beta all the way upto TOL and there's definitely points in there where the gameplay loop changed, but it wasn't in this era.
@@procyonia3654 I cannot speak on behalf of others but I think the contention was pretty much mounts, cat people, new models, and moon with luclin. POP I think was right for gameplay but had all of the above plus quick travel which for another group is a sad day. Honestly I wish I could do PoP without Luclin and mounts/fast travel books. But that's just me and I am sure a large group of people have other gripes like the needed AA grind. To each their own, I have P99 and Quarm up to Velious.
@@thatoneguyis i mean I can understand that Paladin is just one of my favorite classes so I favor the expansions that made them feel "right" and or better. Just a small note about invulnerability, when that is on all agro is transfered to the next person who is the highest on aggro. So that buff is kinda pointless if you are a tank. Unless you are the only one who as aggro of course.
The exception to this is Rampage because its not real agro, but rather a spot on a list. Therefore the Pally hammer technique is very useful in lowering the amount of healers and mana needed to take care of the ramp tank. The pally still takes the rampage because they are still first on the agro list even if they are invulnerable. This would not work for MT at all as you state, agro would just transfer to the next person on the list.
The neck from Aten Ha Ra is nice, but so is the earring from turning in Inquisitors head. You showed him briefly, but failed to mention it. And the clicky is another junk buff for dispelling raid bosses.
on tlps at present, paladin aggro is on par with sks before luclin. i keep hearing people say how pally aggro sucks before luclin, i think those people have never played pallys. you got three stuns you can rotate, and a stun clicky wrist. plus a little group heal. gets better in luclin, but thats a common misconception that sks are way better aggro before luclin. just not true. edit : a note on rangers. they get better with bows in luclin but they are still fairly strong with melee. more damage than a war melee, but a good couple steps less than a rogue. they can tank any groupable content forever, but eventually a slow is necessary if a ranger is your tank. gates of discord is when the slow becomes mandatory for them, but they can still tank anything you're grouping forever. including them with tanks is pertinent.
@@darkwulf2k yes the bazaar got revamped. I don't know exactly why but I think it was cause there wasn't enough room for everybody in the old stalls. But the revamp is kinda jarring with how it doesn't match the zonein from shadow haven
On Xegony back in the auction zone was actually Gfay, I like the bazaar but I really wish they made it a zone like Gfay/EC. AAs were awesome, I've done some sketchy stuff with manaburn and instant evac :p Vex Thal trash sucks and I played a wizard LOL
I played on Xegony at launch and it was the primary auction zone for probably a month or two. But yeah, putting the bazaar in the EC tunnel would have been a better choice imo.
Luclin is an underrated expansion. The new models are grotesque and I hold a grudge against anyone using them - what's wrong with your eyes people - but you have the option to use the old models so I don't understand why anyone holds this against the expansion overall. The EC tunnel has charm, but by Luclin I am so over scrolling through /auction spam just to negotiate with a no life tunnel rat trying to make 100p by flipping. Cats on the moon? A little hokey, but the zones themselves are great and beautiful - Hollowshade Moor is probably the coolest looking zone in the game imo. The added challenge of various types of traps, massive NPC power increase, new raid concepts, AAs, and better class identities makes up for all. I feel like most of the "classic only" fans simply can't handle the extra challenge that Luclin brought to the table. Remembering back to when this expansion first came out, it was when they first started adding tons of QoL changes to the game. From a necro perspective, they go from topping parses in Velious to mid DPS and a try hard necro will lose to a semi afk ranger with their AAs. That is somewhat made up for with the Mind Wrack spell. This is the group mana buff that gives 300 mana to each group member over 4 ticks - NOT when it wears off. A savvy raid leader will put two necros in a group with four classes that need the mana depending on the point of where you are in the expansion (probably clerics early on and then with wizards and a ench later on when tanks are geared). This will allow the necros to alternate the MW spell - virtually giving everyone in the group an endless mana pool with 100+ mana per tick when adding in clarity/gear/med. The wizards and enchanters in this group set up will be able to spam AOEs constantly without ever worrying about mana - shaving off up to an hour in a VT clear. Unfortunately Mind Wrack basically becomes worthless in the very next expansion, the most overrated expansion imo, because just about every mob including bosses don't have mana to tap from going forward. It's a flash in the pan but extremely powerful during Luclin itself.
Yeah I like your take the most so far. In retrospect, I don't get the hate for luclin. It fixed so many classes, made it so it was worth playing your max lvl chars again beyond raids, & more.
