Hi Richard, Hsinchu looks a lot less humid and warm cycling around, compared to Singapore. I certainly will mark this city in my Taiwan travel itinerary. Have a great weekend. 🥸😋
recommend 2 places also in hsinchu city/county: (1)coastline : Nanliao port (南寮漁港)& 17 km bikeway along the coast leading to southern county - Miaoli (2)mountainside : neiwan (內灣) & 尖石 - a small hakka village and aboriginal surroundings. you could bring your bike and take train on neiwan line from 新莊 station(nearby 關東市場) all the way to the final stop. enjoy Hsinchu ! ! (from a guy born and studying in Taipei, is working in Hsinchu, and living in Taichung)
Hello Richard, I congratulate you on this beautiful video from Taiwan, very well explained in all its aspects, a pleasure to travel with you, thank you very much for sharing these beautiful trips, greetings and until the next video 😊👍☘️🙏.
I was born and raised in Hsinchu. It was my hometown. I left there 33 years ago in 1988 for the States, when the Science-Based Park was just starting. It looks like you and your family are living in the residential area of the Park. The temple there has been the religious center for the companies and people who work in the Park. It was meant to be torn down to make room for the schools when the Park was planned. However, after vigorous protests by the locals, it was eventually kept for historical preservation. By the way, yes, it was the moat for the old city. Beside the train station, the city government building is also with historical significance and is historically preserved but still in use. Hope you and your family enjoy the stay in Hsinchu.
Good video for Hsinchu. Visited Hsinchu many time before 2010. During the day only travel between Hsinchu city and Science park. Only at night walking around city center but not other part of Hsinchu.
I first happened across your videos when I was researching folding bikes. (I ended up buying a great little Giant at my local bike shop in Kaoshiung). But now I see you are in Taiwan. Envy!! Great, informative and entertaining video. LOVED IT!
8:05 I agree! I was born in Taoyuan, and I used to find Hsinchu...let's just say a bit flat when compare with Taoyuan(even thou Taoyuan isn't exactly life of the party either) there appears to be less symbolic food than other cities. 8:43 showing my age, the stream was a smelly little bit of water back in early 80s-almost 40 years ago, I can see they beautified and clean it up and make it look a lot nicer now.
Looking forward for your Taiwan videos again! I spent 2 years in Taipei before moved to Australia now. Haven’t got any chance to fo much biking there. Keep ‘em coming!
I didn’t realise Hsinchu is so nice. Next time when I get to travel to Taiwan again will check it out. Oh I really liked the background music. It goes well with your video.
Probably the best place to visit in Hsinchu, is Dongmen market for food at night (though it’s extremely humid and hot in the summer), nanliao for coastal views and biking (17km trail), 18 peaks mountain for hiking, giant Bhuddah statue in the mountains (have to search that up forgot where and what it’s name is), Tofu rocks for rad pictures, zhubei for fancy, but expensive food, neiwan for aboriginal culture and hot springs, chingda university and chao tung university for night market food near the campus and on campus exploring especially with chinga since they have a great rock climbing wall, that’s about it... hahahha, but do try the meat and jelly thingys (seriously don’t know what to call them in English) you can find them at most markets and night markets.
Thank you for a quick tour of your new city. Would love to see more of the local places. One thing that Singaporeans need is a side of chilli or chilli sauce to go with every dish. It's something that cannot be found in fast food restaurants in Taiwan and everywhere else other than in Southeast Asia. I remember when I was serving NS and had to go to Taiwan for training, we would usually bring along cartons of bottled chilli sauce to go with the cookhouse food.
Appreciate your videos. I'm originally from Spore and now living in Australia. I intend to move to Taiwan in the not too distant future. Keep the vids coming.....
Thanks for the video! Was in Hsin Chu towards the end of 2019, watching your video brought back some nice memories. You should check out Neiwan as well. Cheers and stay safe :)
Great video. Makes me miss traveling to Taiwan. I’ve never been to HsinChu. However, after your video, hopefully travel resumes soon and I can bring my Brompton over too! Thanks Richard!
Good calm atmosphere. Nice filming. I was surprised that those train station and 紅樓 were created by the same guy! As a Taiwanese ,I've never learned about that
Nice video. I'm an international student living in Hsinchu without any personal vehicle, but after watching your video, I am considering buying a bike to roam around the city like you and probably join you sometime?
Hello sir im in also Hsinchu county Taiwan Nice to see your video about in taiwan . By the way im from Philippines working here in taiwan. I like your contect sir and hopefully to make vlog collab with you.
Hsinchu city is a nice city which l had studied and lived in for 5 years. It is so relaxing on weekends and public holidays, but it has less entertainment than in Taipei city. The wind is super strong sometimes. There is some bunkers downtown, it is just at the side of some streets. I thought it was built by the Japanese military during the Japanese occupied the island. The mountains at the east of the city are nice and spectacular. There have some hot springs located at the riverside, people say 野溪溫泉, but you better have a local tour guide.
Very good tour Richard , i like your new hometown . I tend to like the Chinese style of Taiwan rather than SE Asia . I didn't know the Japanese had a big part in early Taiwan so at what stage did Taiwan escape from China and Japan and become an entity in itself . No doubt future history vlogs from you will clear that up :-)
Maybe you can ask for personal seasoning for your dish. Extra spicy in the meal or less sugar in the drink, it can be custom made for your wish. especially when you tasted it before.
Hi Richard, i love hiking in Taiwan and i hope to get back soon. Can you vlog more about the Baiyue or the top 100 peaks of Taiwan. I have only done 2 out of 100 but id like to see you hiking and completing it. Your hiking videos are the best. Thanks
I am following you, from SG. Looking fwd to seeing more makan/ food recommendations** and nature or scenic places in Taiwan. **can incl vegetarian food...What to eat and where to find etc??
Thanks for this very nice introduction of my home town. I personally really like Pondok Sunny, however, it really isn't all that spicy. If you want more authentic South East Asian food, there are bunch of authentic South East Asian hole in the walls in the allies around Hukou's 仁和路. You could park in the 綠光 parking lot on Renhe road, which for some reason isn't on google, but it shows up on street view. Maybe you can pair that food trip up with a trip to Hukou's Old street.
I liked it too. I think it was because I was fresh off the boat from Singapore and still missing my nasi padang. I would go back again (if they'd let me in!) LOL. And thanks for the tips
Hi Richard, watching your video in the Saturday morning and EPL at night become my weekly routine. Thanks for making my weekend enjoyable. Do you drink kopi in Taiwan, if yes is it different from Singapore.
Hsinchu became a different place from used to know, because the mayor is from another party, DDP. The city was long governed by KMT mayors, who did not put any efforts to elevate this city. The renovation of Hsinchu train station, making new bicycle trails, reforming the Dongmen so many efforts were done to make Hshinchu a more livable and comfortable place.
As always, thank you for your informative and interesting vlog. How much time would it take you to produce a video such as this (including research)? Landscape and history wise, I’m sure there’ll be immensely more in Hsinchu (not to mention the rest of Taiwan) than in Singapore. Enjoy!
Thanks for the video, very knowledgeable. Your Brampton can upgrade original suspension to oil compression one. That will help to handle bumpy road. A guy in Taipei manufactures that. His name is James Chao. You can find him from Facebook if needed. Looking forward to seeing your videos. Thanks.
Hi Richard! My friends and I were thinking of doing a cycling tour in Taiwan after borders have opened. Could you give some tips on what Singaporeans need for an enjoyable cycling tour in Taiwan? Would greatly appreciate if you could advise on: 1. Places to cycle (Some routes) 2. Laws on cycling (Can we cycle on roads etc) 3. Tips on bringing a bike to Taiwan or where to rent a bike in Taiwan
As I've only just returned to Taiwan it will take me a bit of time to get up to speed and learn the latest info. But that's definitely something I'll consider for a future video.
Taiwan is really bicycle friendly. The variety of terrain is a big plus. But do consider Nov or dec. You'd definitely love the comfortable climate as you cycle.
@@filthycasual6171 I rent the Citi bikes for point A to B travel on the roads, so I don't do the inter county cycling. The background music is great! Soothing and unobtrusive.
Thank you for bringing us around! Especially during this time when we can't travel.
Beautiful scenery. Ty for sharing.
Would love to see more videos on Hsinchu!

Great! Now I can learn more of Taiwan history
Richard... I guessed you truly love the vast and huge land mass.
Have not been to Hsinchu & I really enjoyed the lovely tour!
Amazing to see the places I see every day in a UA-cam video that has so many views.

My understanding of Xin Zhu is silicon valley of Taiwan, the land of the rich....probably the equivalent of Bukit Timah/ sixth avenue?
可以往竹東, 觀霧國家公園, 或是往宇老那邊走 新竹市區以前工作繞過幾次就膩了
Those city gates in Taiwan are really pretty. I also like to explore the city walls where possible like in Hengchun.

Should be. It won't be summer hot and its before the rainy season.

May you have a great one
