    Fascinating shoot. Benefits of medium format very intriguing. I would love to see you test the Nikon z7ii soon. Seems like the face and eye autofocus are now easily sufficient for portrait shooting. When I compare the Canon R and Sony and the Nikon Z at B&H I found the Nikon ergonomics by far the best.

    I rented the GFX100 along with the 110mm f2. I cried the day I had to give it back. Although my D850 is an amazing camera, that medium format took my breath away. I also could not stop viewing at 100 percent to see the crazy detail!

      Those two lenses are magical, like fujifilm put magical pixie dust in them. When I have the right client, I rent the GFX100 and those 2 lenses - but with COVID19 my local clothing boutique clients that replace their store and window displays each quarter cut back their budgets. Maybe this year things get back to normal.

    Julia, i cant believe the clarity and was better than UHD. I could count individual freckles on your models nose. I was so envious seeing a beach shoot considering its Winter here..ugh. I get my 85mm tomorrow and I cant wait to do a shoot with Maddie. We want some snow though, lol. I do love how you control your models poses... You definitely bring out their best on a shoot. I don't have a 45mm but i do have it in a 35mm to 85mm lens. Thanks again for all your help and advice.

    Hi Julia! The GFX100 is a fenomenon in itself, but adding you to the show is really a winning combo. I would definitely be thrilled using a GFS100 system, primarily for landscape, but the 110mm glass also seems to be working quite well in a portrait situation, athough it may not be an easy gear to be handheld for long.

    I use the GFX50R for weddings and couples. Its not the ideal tool for this, but for me it makes much more fun than the Full Frame DSLMs on the market. Also a very good camera for travel and using vintage lenses. Im looking forward the GF80 1.9 end of January.

    a GFX is a bit of a dream camera for me. Fuji-check. medium format-check. Beautiful rendition SOOC and the medium format look is so gorgeous. I'm cool with my 35mm cameras right now, but if I were to get one of these bad boys (one of these years) I'd definitely use it for landscape work and lower volume portrait work. Definitely not needed for weddings and events. Also, welcome back from holiday! What a perfect video to come back with. Hopefully those hand cramps are no more! haha. I understand the struggle. Lastly, but definitely not the least important, your model was perfect for this. She's incredible.

    I love the images that come from digital medium format. I owned the GFX 50S for a while and I miss the amazing quality that comes from it. If I could afford the 100 I'd pick it up in a heartbeat because it fixes a lot of the problems that the cheaper 50S and 50R have.

    • @paddington2063
      @paddington2063 3 роки тому

      The 50 series got a firmware update for the af and its not nearly as bad as it used to be! I think the only real benefit the 100 has is Ibis but I dont find it to be that much of a problem considering the iso and dr performance. Frankly, 100mp is total overkill, I wish they would just update to 50 series once more.

    I use GFX-50S for portraits and landscapes in general. I did not go for the 100 because of the body. Now that 100s is going to be released in the GFX-50s style body, provided it is still going to be weather sealed, that'd be the next. You gotta really slow down to use the GFX system (maybe in the next five years it will change). It suits my style since I take time and shoot my pictures (don't do fast action).

    Glad you had fun. I noticed you didn't go over iso100, would love to have seen how far you could of pushed the grain in low light, but maybe an other video. :) If you have big advertising clients who need images for billboards, or large posters, then I can see this being an excellent camera for that, especially being able to crop endlessly :) But for most people, you would never need this huge file size of a camera. Thanks for sharing...

    I’ve used the GFX100 at a Fuji event, along with the 110 F2, and the images are just bananas!

  • @michaelbell75

    Cant wait for the GFX 100S coming this year. Basically the same camera for $4000 less and in a much smaller package! Rumored to be $5,999 which is really close to high end FF camera pricing. Love 4:3 format, so much better for portraits. 3:2 is too long and narrow for portraits IMO. I shoot my FF mirrorless cameras in 4:3 actually. You are right though, this camera isn't right for your style. Ive seen several natural light portrait shooters using it on UA-cam and the style doesn't work with medium format. To really show off this camera and get that "wow" factor, you need to be using lighting that gives it that 3D look, lots of colors and really makes your model pop from the background. I like your work, but it has very flat lighting, desaturated look and most of these shots were totally washed out. Very little colors, blown out highlights, no sky etc...No offense meant, that's just your style and it works for you but its not the right style for a camera like this.

    Yes, the bokeh and dof are exactly the topics I was waiting for throughout the video. You as a 35mm focal length person - was the subject separation of the 45mm lens fine with you? I somehow found your work done @1.4 even better, dreamier. Obviously the middle format gives you more of that than a 35mm f2.8 lens on ff would, like f2.0. I would like more
    Your comment about the overall feel of the larger camera - you could share more details. Even if for regular watchers of your channel this conclusion is obvious!

    If the 100 is to much, the 50 also exists. It is less than the A7IV and a bit more thelan the R5, but it's medium format just gives it the same amazing atmosphere Ina even lighter body with longer battery life.
    When I had my hands on both, I preferred the GFX50 files because of ease of use (especially mobile on a laptop) and file size. But also because the smaller body would actually allow to take it with you to things that are more "hobby".

    Great video, loved it! I switched to Fuji GFX100 from Sony last March and shot it all year but now am switching to Canon R5. I loved the Fuji but over time the weight and cost of the system got to me plus I found the eye-AF to be too unpredictable and unreliable for me. Another issue for me was the uncompressed RAW file sizes that came out which were around 210 MB per image. That fills up SD cards and computer storage too quickly. I found it difficult to produce sharp images with the GFX and during several shoots with a client I had to ask them to stop posing so the camera could catch up - even with UHS-2 v90 cards this camera has a small buffer and you have to frequently stop shooting to let it catch up and write images. I'll fondly remember my time with the system but I'm looking forward to more consistent shooting and reliability of the Canon R5 in my days ahead.

      @michaelbell75 3 роки тому +3

      "full frame" is a very inaccurate name for 35mm digital. 35mm is considered tiny in the photography world. It was referred to as a mini format. For reference, a Fuji Instax Mini, the smallest of their instant film cameras at 46 mm x 62 mm is considerably larger than 35mm's 24mm x 36 mm haha. No idea how it came to be called "full" frame in the digital world. Probably to differentiate it from "crop" frame APS-C cameras, but 35mm is anything but "full" IMO ha

    I rented the GFX100 and 110 for a shoot and it instantly triggered GAS. Lol - fujifilm is the brand of camera I recommend to new photographers, they’ve carved out quite the niche market for their APSC and MF bodies

    I think Hasselblad better, I think Hasselblad number 1. It's not about pixel or lens, it's all about image processing, but Hasselblad best on it. You get what you see, no other camera in the world can do that. I was thinking to get Fuji 100mp, but it is waste of money. You better get old 31mp H4D-31 for 2k and get better results.

    Julia what’s that device you use to record the camera screen? I’m rlly curious

    Looks like an amazing camera and the files look great! Of course you also still need a great photographer to get to those results, so well done Julia! :-)
    For me the camera and the files would be way too big. It wouldn't encourage me to shoot if I had to take that camera everywhere and my hard drive would be full so fast haha! Maybe if I would work in a studio.

      Thank you! For me personally the files are a bit overkill for my kind of portrait photography that I do, but I would love to take this camera out with me while travelling for some landscape photos + making prints. Would be really cool to see what it could do in a setting like that.

    Hello Julia! Can you tell me how you mounted your external recorder to the fuji to record the viewfinder? Did you use some kind of mounting bracket?

    I💜julia... but I have a question I’m a Fuji user, and capture One, for me open and read much better the fuji raw, like insane colors, is the same with the GFX?

    @Julia Trotti Would be nice if you made a video of the settings you have put in place on the GFX100 for doing these shoots besides just showing the ISO and SS and AP. Also maybe list the product you have attached to the side GFX100 in this video that allows you to see the shots taken and viewfinder? Im figuring out things more an more with this monster and love it, but there's hardly any info out there with useful content for this camera other than its specs and how nice it is.

      If I get this camera back again, I can definitely make a video about the settings - I ended up changing quite a lot of things and tried a few different settings while shooting as well to see how it would affect focus speeds, shooting speeds, etc.

      @@juliatrotti That sounds great! I will say I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue you were running into with the blur yet, I rarely have the shutter up over 1k too, I wonder if it was a lens issue maybe? I mean I find it ridiculous how well the image stabilizers in this camera, if I’m doing a landscape it goes on the tripod because I’m doing a 1-5 second exposure, but if I’m not doing long exposures I can just hand hold, have yet to run into blur (I probably am jinxing myself) I am not a pro so I don’t know what could have caused that for you but just my 2 cents is all.
