This is how you make a review of a camera! Gordon points out the features of the GFX, while not expressing personal opinion! He will tell you what he is impressed with, but he wont start and flame on the product he reviews.
I like Gordon and his work but your definition of unbiased is, well, actually - biased. I, for one, don’t want to hear only about what the reviewer is impressed with - pointing out issues and reasonable flame are as necessary. That’s balanced.
Really great in depth review, as usual. Handling plus ibis plus resolution plus decent lenses gave stunning results... everything else seemed nitpicking. Well done Fuji.
@2:02 FINALLY... someone compares this camera (or sensor at least) to other Medium Format Digital cameras. Yes, we all know it is above and beyond m4/3, APS-C, Full Frame, etc... but how does it compare to a Hasselblad or Phase One?
Thanks Gordon, another excellent review! I'll book mark this camera for my 2029 Ebay searches. No seriously though, even though this is such an impressive camera, breaking boundaries with MF, I feel like it's still kind of niche due to it's weight, size and cost, and FF seems like the best compromise. Side glance at the Sony A7R4 :D
For quick handheld stuff, can't see its advantage over a7 r4; for landscape that 23mmF4 lens is a killer. Sony simply don't have anything close to compete in terms of raw resolving power.
Obviously not, they are completely differently systems, and Sony is the leader now in focus and the programming that goes with it. Hard to not want to get a Sony system.
I am a big fan of IBIS and I have been shooting with it since 2013. However for this camera I really don’t need it as the camera would always be on a tripod. Since I shoot landscapes and do so many very long exposures.
@@cameralabs Not yet, I will. To be honest, I'm more a "Pentax guy", but I like to improve my knowledge about photography. I feel I'm at the right place for that !

I got one question Gordon: after using the gfx100 for a few days and examining the pictures...how is it to go back to a full frame or cheaper camera? Does it feel like you are missing something? It would be hard for me to let go of that beast of a camera ...that picture quality must be amazing...
Well, you notice that you're not zooming-in as much to reach 100%, but cheaper full-frame and APSC can still look amazing. Plus, I was getting tired lugging it around.
Exactly - oh my goodness, don't get me started on that bloke. He has some good things to say and seems to have a lot of knowledge, however his cussing, swearing, ranting and vitriol directed at everybody in sundry, really makes him totally unwatchable. Gordon you make my pee boiling. Such a well ballanced review that even appears trustworthy. But you could aslo costme several thousands of USD. It's incredible and you are giving acces to a self studdy of ir. Thanks, thanks, thanks. GC
Great camera, great review, thanks for this..finally i can conclude that getting a sony a7iv is a more parctical choice over the gfx100...sony a7iv might not be able to compete with it but imagine the more useful gear that you could buy for 10k$. When starting as a pro...very in depth review indeed :)
Thanks! Yes, you'd have a lot of budget left for lenses, travel - and coffee donations! - if you went the full-frame route. But they are different beasts as you know.
@@cameralabs indeed..sony a7IV is just a different case, im a pro on a budget, i think the gfx is worth the investment, but wat the clients usually want is just a sharp and wonderful photo that they can keep forever, the gfx100 is just out of my reach right now lol..
Ya have to embrace those wrinkles, Gordon! That aside, I think what's most noteworthy about this camera is that it's a larger-than-35mm format digital camera with a very high resolution that's also barely more difficult to use than a more "standard" mirrorless camera. Yes, it's expensive at $10k, but considering what it has (and its unashamedly small target market alongside its cheaper launch price than contemporaries), I think Fuji has got a bit of a winner here. It's not my personal cup of tea (the X-T3 performs just fine for me), but the geek in me can't help but be interested in what it brings to the table.
I could not agree more with Gordon's observations about the poorly conceived and executed control dials. I have been a long time GFX and X series user in the mountains. I got rid of the 50s to upgrade to this with a 5-10 year plan in mind. Doing away with the X series dials is fine, however the controls feel pointlessly small and fallible. Fuji needed to fondle a Leica SL to realise they have let this £10,000 camera down. I will leave aside any attempt to apologise for the vertical non-grip. The joy stick is needlessly small. Fuji could have learnt from the big, rubberised knob on the Leica SL - the gold standard for easy to fondle joysticks in cold conditions in the mountains. Equally, compare the unmissable, precise dials on the front and rear of the SL to these mini dials. They really do feel minuscule and too small for a thumb. Really disappointed by the rank controls.
As a painter I would like to pride myself on my appreciation of colour, yet I find the film simulations on my XT3 all but useless. The only one's at all useable are Provia and Pro Negative Standard. All the rest are eccentric gimmicks. As for the celebrated Acros, it is identical to any black and white photograph that has been underexposed by a third of a stop. As a Fuji owner I am baffled by all the mythologising this brand encourages.
No, mirrorless does NOT mean small, it means without a mirror, so there's an electronic viewfinder and full-time live view. A DSLR has an optical viewfinder and a mirror which, fo a camera with this size sensor, would be about 50% bigger still.
That wasn't the point being made. The point was, this camera might be out of the price range of most people buying a camera, but it's still interesting to admire and check it out.
This camera is bigger than what it is. The VF should be integrated so it does not take the hot shoe. For now it is overprice and need to be design better.

A technical marvel.
What about the camera though?
I think the smooth skin makes your skin look older because it blurs pours much more than wrinkles
It is a 5 years old sensor in it, right.
I don't think anyone had a 100mp sensor with PDAF five years ago, but show me the specs for it and we can compare.
I've always complained about the Ferrari reviews on car shows. What's the point, 99.999% of the audience can't afford one. Same here.
It's not about being able to afford them, it's about finding out about a state of the art product - just entertainment.
